  • How to implement a book preview (2 page spread) without using Flash?

    I'm looking into a solution for work, where you have a two page spread of the book to preview. Either side of this, you can hover in the corner to create a pseudo-flip and then click the mouse button to actually turn the page. I know there is many Flash solutions out there, but in this case we cannot use it... So we are looking for a possible solution that can work across all major browsers (yes, including IE6)... I looked a few canvas solutions, but with Google's canvas extension for IE, these will terribly slow. So was thinking about an SVG/VML solution, like Raphael Javascript library. This could be good, but then trying to look into how to code this, without examples, could be a challenge with the time constraint. Is there a solution out there that fits (or almost fits) this problem?

  • How to prevent Firefox from putting shadows around input boxes which have had their background colou

    Hi there, I'm creating a set of input fields and using javascript's .style.backgroundColor = "red" to change the colour of any invalid fields. In Chrome, there is no problem. However, in Firefox, as soon as I touch the backgroundColor (even if I set it to white) then I get these strange shadow effects. My two columns are set inside a single column of the above row? but when i change it again to 'none' all the other rows are aligned correctly..

  • How can I have centered text and right-aligned image in the same element?

    I have some th elements with text in them that should be centered and they also contain images: The up/down arrow graphic is a separate image. My question is, what is the simplest reliable way to position that image over to the right side of the th element while keeping the text centered? I'm open to using jQuery/JavaScript if there's a reasonably simple way to do it.   • Transparent Select/Option text in IE

    I've created the JS fiddle to demonstrate my problem: http://jsfiddle.net/C8NUf/1/ HTML: <select> <option> Test </option> <option> Another Test </option> </select> Style: select { color: transparent; } In chrome, the selected text "test" is properly blanked out by setting the color to transparent, in IE the test is still black. How can I fix this issue in IE? Ideally I want to make this change via JQuery, but that doesn't seem very relevant to the overall problem. Thanks, Daniel

  • Is there a need for zero-out DIV's margin and padding?

    I wonder if on any browser div element comes with a preset margin/padding value other than zero. As far as I know, div and span come with zero padding and margin values by standard to make them suitable canvas for style decoration. Even better, is there a definite standard for default styles for all elements that is cross-browser which we can make assumptions upon? For instance FORM comes with top/bottom margins, OL/UL come with padding-left's. I occasionally see a * { margin: 0; padding: 0; } and this just looks like a dirty hack without knowing the reasons or consequences. Anyone has any better approach to this?

  • Stretch image to fill div, but not skew

    I'm trying to make an image stretch to fit inside a div. However I want it to overflow so that the entire div is filled. The div resizes with the page. I want an effect similar to the jQuery bgstretcher plugin (http://www.ajaxblender.com/bgstretcher-2-jquery-stretch-background-plugin-updated.html) , but I cannot use that plugin because I'm already using it for the background image on the page, and it seems to not work when you try and activate multiple instances of it. So what I'm asking is for some sort of simple jQuery function that resizes an image to completely fill a div with overflow hidden, so that there are no gaps, but without skewing the image. Edit: http://jsfiddle.net/R7UCZ/ That's sort of what I'm after, but I want the image to fill the entire div without skewing. If the image goes out of the div a bit, that's fine, but I need it to resize with the div, which resizes with the page, both height and width.

Putting in the following attribute has no effect: cssStyle="width:115px!important;" What can I do?
