XMLStreamReader and a real stream

Update There is no ready XML parser in Java community which can do NIO and XML parsing. This is the closest I found, and it's incomplete: http://wiki.fasterxml.com/AaltoHome I have the following code: InputStream input = ...; XMLInputFactory xmlInputFactory = XMLInputFactory.newInstance(); XMLStreamReader streamReader = xmlInputFactory.createXMLStreamReader(input, "UTF-8"); Question is, why does the method #createXMLStreamReader() expects to have an entire XML document in the input stream? Why is it called a "stream reader", if it can't seem to process a portion of XML data? For example, if I feed: <root> <child> to it, it would tell me I'm missing the closing tags. Even before I begin iterating the stream reader itself. I suspect that I just don't know how to use a XMLStreamReader properly. I should be able to supply it with data by pieces, right? I need it because I'm processing a XML stream coming in from network socket, and don't want to load the whole source text into memory. Thank you for help, Yuri.

How to extract paragaph and selected lines with Perl

What I want to do is to extract the whole paragraph under the section "Aceview summary" until the line that starts with "Please quote". extract the line that starts with "The closest human gene". And store them into array with two elements. However I am stuck with the following script logic. Binding a list belonging to another object in a custom model binder in ASP.NET MVC

I realize something like this has been asked, but this may be a little different Below is my Event object: Event : IEvent public int Id public string Title public List<EventContact> Contacts And EventContact: EventContact public int Id public string Name So, an Event has a list of EventContact' objects. Now, Event also implements IEvent - hence the custom model binder. I useIEventinstead of Event, so when the default model binder tries to do its thing, it lets me know it can't create anIEvent'. I have my view with populated with the contact info: <input type="text" name="contact[0].Name" value="DB Value"/> <input type="text" name="contact[1].Name" value="DB Value"/> <input type="text" name="contact[2].Name" value="DB Value"/>  So, in my custom model binder I am able to see all the value - sweet! The only thing is, I'm really not sure how to get all the contact fields and create a list of contacts from them, along with binding all the Event fields. Any and all help is appreciated!

How should I read from a buffered reader?

I have the following example of reading from a buffered reader: while ((inputLine = input.readLine()) != null) { System.out.println("I got a message from a client: " + inputLine); } The code in the loop println will be executed whenever something appears in the buffered reader (input in this case). In my case, if a client-application writes something to the socket, the code in the loop (in the server-application) will be executed. But I do not understand how it works. inputLine = input.readLine() waits until something appears in the buffered reader and when something appears there it returns true and the code in the loop is executed. But when null can be returned. There is another question. The above code was taken from a method which throws Exception and I use this code in the run method of the Thread. And when I try to put throws Exception before the run the compiler complains: overridden method does not throw exception. Without the throws exception I have another complain from the compiler: unreported exception. So, what can I do?

Javascript hide/show classes with checkbox

I am just learning javascript, so please bear with me! I want to be able to use checkboxes to choose to hide/show div classes (to basically filter the amount of info being shown). It is done in this... but I'm try to figure out something much simpler (since I don't need to dynamically generate the checkbox options.) Any idea how to do this with QUnit? Edit: I read the QUnit examples, but they seem to be dealing with a simple scenario with no AJAX interaction. And although there are ASP.NET MVC examples, but I think they are really testing the output of the server to an AJAX call, i.e., it's still testing the server response, not the AJAX response. What I want is how to test the client side response.

How I can determine the sector size on an external hard drive?

Hard drives are transitioning from 512 byte to 4096 byte sector sizes, and it looks like Windows XP won't support these newer drives without additional software (such as WDalign from Western Digital) My question is: how does this affect external hard drives? I'll be buying a 1TB USB external drive, and it'll be plugged into a mix of Windows 7 and XP machines. Is there an easy way to tell what the sector size on an external hard drive is?

How do I reset a form in an ajax callback?

I am sending a form using simple ajax and returning the results in a div above the form. The problem is that after the form is submitted and validated, I display a thank you and want to reset the form so they don't just press the submit button again... Can't seem to find the right code to do this... <form id="myForm" target="sendemail.php" method="post"> <div id="results"></div> <input type="text" name="value1"> <input type="text" name="value2"> <input type="submit" name="submit"> </form> So, my sendemail.php validation errors and success messages appear in #results without problems. But... when I try to send back a javascript form reset command, it does not work. Core i7 c1e and speedstepping - BSOD on shutdown

I'm having an interesting problem with my recent Core i7 Digital Audio workstation build that I am curious to see if others have encountered. First, here are the specs on the machine. ASUS P6TD Deluxe Intel X58 Socket LGA1366 MB Intel Core i7-950 3.06Ghz 8M LGA1366 CPU CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB Plus a couple ASUS optical drives and a 750W Corsair PSU. Running Windows 7 x64. All this is connected to the nefarious Digi 002 firewire audio interface for use with Pro Tools. I following mostly the specs posted by many other I7 users in the digidesign community who pooled their collective knowledge in this thread. Now after completing my build, I fell victim to the "UD5 squeal" described at that forum thread. So taking the advice posted, I disabled c1e advanced halt state and Intel speed stepping (I would likely have done this anyway to maintain a stable clock, power consumption isn't really a relevant concern on this machine.) I enabled XMP to set the ram timings properly as well. What I am experiencing is a BSOD upon shutdown, but only immediately after windows fully exits and ends all processes. The error is a MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION 0x000000. The funny thing is that it is extremely intermitent and only occurs if the shutdown immediately followed a period of relative idleness. It does not a generate a minidump, I suspect because windows monitoring has terminated by the time this error occurs. No damage is evident and one can simply turn off manually and the system will act as though a proper shutdown had occurred. If anything it is a annoyance, I just want to be certain it is not affecting my long term stability. I have read that the i7 950 does not like DRAM voltages past 1.65, but that they are acceptable if they are within .5 of the BLCK setting. I have tried disabling XMP and setting all timings to auto and the problem still manifests in an identical way. It is suspect that the cpu idleness preceding shutdown is the determining factor, as both c1e and speedstepping are both settings intended to modify handling of this state. Any suggestions or prior experiences would be greatly appreciated. I can't seem to download the hotfix cited there however.

Preferred way of application initialization

Do you guys have your own little framework for project startups ? I mean, every time one needs to do the same things at the beginning: Context initialization - ideally after arguments are processed. Sometimes without interactive user input, sometimes with input reader. Sometimes we need to load properties, sometimes not. Then we need to get a class out of context and run its method. Programming....programming until writing shell script to place everything on classpath. It's true that it differs according to the actual needs. But it seems to me, that I'm doing always almost the same, again and again from the scratch. Sometimes I realize that I'm postponing my work just because I don't want to do these annoying startups. It would be great if there was some kind of universal Main class doing reflection to specified bean, context initialization, argument parsing, interactive user input reading and have the programmer do the important things...All setup might be done via spring configuration. I think I'll have to do it by myself. I'd appreciate your ideas

jQuery validation plugin - removing elements

I'm using the jQuery validation plugin. On most of my input type... tags I have class='required'. When I submit the page, via JavaScript, the controls on the page that have this class are found. However, there are a handful of checkboxes that I don't need to validate. I've tried removing the class code completely from the input tag, also tried class='cancel', and class='required:false. When doing any of those things though when the form submits it can't find the checkbox control. How do I still keep the ability to do Request.Form and find my checkbox object but at the same time when the form submits don't apply validation to this particular control. Thank you. Edit here. This is what I'm using without the "checked" code and ternary operator. In my input tag I'm calling a function like this... sb.Append(" " + crlf); Inside that function is where I check for the True or False coming back, like this. case "chkFlashedCarton": strResultValue = pst.FlashedCarton.ToString(); if (strResultValue == "True") { strResultValue = " checked"; } break; strResultValue is what is returned back. Uninitialized array offset

Hey everyone, I am using PHP to create a form with an array of fields. Basically you can add an unlimited number of 'people' to the form and each person has a first name, last name, and phone number. The form requires that you add a phone number for the first person only. If you leave the phone number field blank on any others, the handler file is supposed to be programmed to use the phone number from the first person. So, my fields are: person[] - a hidden field with a value that is this person's primary key. fname[] - an input field lname[] - an input field phone[] - an input field My form handler looks like this: $people = $_POST['person'] $counter = 0; foreach($people as $person): if($phone[$counter] == '') { // use $phone[0]'s phone number } else { // use $phone[$counter] number } $counter = $counter + 1; endforeach; PHP doesn't like this though, it is throwing me an Notice: Uninitialized string offset error. I debugged it by running the is_array function on people, fname, lname, and phone and it returns true to being an array. I can also manually echo out $phone[2], etc. and get the correct value. I've also ran is_int on the $counter variable and it returned true, so I'm unsure why this isn't working as intended? Any help would be great!

Firefox/vista not showing div tag

Hi, I have a div tag which should be displayed at the bottom of a page given a set of circumstances. On my machine XP/IE, chrome, firefox, opera (all latest versions) the div shows up fine. But on my bosses machine, running vista with Firefox 3.6 for some reason the div tag is not showing up. However, if i go to another machine with vista and firefox the div tag shows up fine. My question is, what could have been set in firefox that would cause this div tag to now be displayed.
