• Web clipping / note taking software on Linux

  Hi, I use this great web-clipping and note taking app called Evernote on my Windows machine. However, there's no Linux version of Evernote (doesn't work properly in Wine). I would like to get some suggestions for something with similar capabilities that runs on Linux/Ubuntu. Specifically I need to be able to select parts of a web page in Firefox, and press some key combination, to save that clip to disk, in some sort of searchable database The clip needs to have pictures and basic text formatting, anything extra is unnecessary I also need to be able to create empty note or edit existing one. Storing the notes on a local machine only is fine - I don't need the sync features of Evernote

• Passenger 2.2.4, nginx 0.7.61 and SSL

  Has anyone had any luck configuring Passenger and nginx with SSL? I've spent hours trying to get this configuration working as I'd like, using what few resources there are out there on the net, and I can't get any of the supposedly forwarded headers to show up in the Rails controller. • IIS: redirect to a webpage if authentication fails

  We have an IIS site (MOSS 2007) that uses Windows Authentication. When a user that has forgotten their password tries to login the servers keeps sending 401 requests. This means on IE the user gets three prompts before IE displays a blank page, on Firefox the user is prompted over and over until they give up. We would like to change the behavior so if a user fails to login three times in a row we send them a redirect to a different site, instead of another 401 Forms authentication is not an option; the site has to remain on windows authentication to allow for SSO capabilities and certain sharepoint functions. Is there any way to tweak the IIS behavior to do this?

• How do I view the location of an swf file that is obscured somehow.

  Specifically, I'm trying to view Elmo's Keyboard-o-rama fullscreen. The original swf file at www.sesameworkshop.org/uploaded-images/9495524/additional/main_game-6.swf has been moved and obscured. For a toddler, this game really needs to be full screen! The toddler doesn't mind too much and has already lost interest in the game for the day. But it's just driving me crazy. I've tried the usual method of viewing the page info in Firefox to no avail. And before people start trying to delete this for being game specific, I would like to know how to do this for any obfuscated swf location, not just games. Thanks in advance.

• How to remove google ads virus from IE?

  I have picked up adware in that shows extra irrelevant google ads. This only happens in Internet Explorer 10, not Firefox or Iron. I have tried some removals for similar viruses with no luck. I have scanned with MalwareBytes, Windows Defender(I am using Windows 8 RTM, so this is the same as MSE), Spybot, Ad Aware, McAfee, Norton, and AVG, with no luck. Here's a screenshot: As you can see, ads are added to the tan area as well as several extra white results, which are especially irrelevant. I like IE10 and would like to keep using it, but these ads are annoying. I'm also worried there may be spyware as well.

• Create private key with CSR

  I have a CSR file (as a text file) and the corresponding P7B certificate. My problem is that I have to create a P12 file on a machine where I do not have created the CSR. I have created the CSR in Firefox Key Manager. Before, I imported the P7B file into certificate store in msc, then exported a CER-file, imported it in Key Manager and then exported the P12 file. This doesn't work anymore because I have another machine now. If I try to import the CER file created by msc, Key Manager says that there is no private key. Is there a possibility to create a private key?

• Excel crashes when opening Excel files from Internet Explorer

  I have been running into some issues when opening Excel files from Internet Explorer, generally the first document or two will open fine but after that trying to open a file will cause Excel and Internet Explorer to crash to the desktop without any notifications being given. This doesn't happen for users who are running Excel 2007, but for users with Excel 2003 it may or may not happen to them. The files in question are Excel XML files and Internet Explorer 6 and Excel 2003 are being use. At this time it would not be possible to upgrade Internet Explorer, but it would be able to upgrade to Excel to version 2007 if that would resolve the issue. Overdue Update: We recently upgraded to Firefox at the office which has rendered this error a non-issue; however, it is still unresolved from the standpoint that we haven't been able to come up with an explanation to the issue. Since IE6 is still installed on the systems, a fix to the problem (or explanation of why it's happening) would be appreciated.

• Am I crazy? Demos on jQuery's 'effects' page not working in any browser

  Hi all, I want to make sure I'm not crazy, because I can't get any of the effects demos to work on jQuery's demo pages. I thought it might be my new Firebug version (1.5.2) or Firefox in general, but they're not working in IE or Chrome either. Here are the links where the demos aren't working. One is for highlight, and the other is for explode. Incidentally, highlight is the one that I'm trying to use. Could it be the new jQuery UI version? Is anyone else having these not work? • chunked response in nginx not working

  I ran into this post which shows my problem EXACTLY http://nginx.org/en/docs/faq/chunked_encoding_from_backend.html BUT browsers are using http 1.1 these days so I really don't understand. Our backend is the playframework and I don't mind fixing it but I don't really understand what is not working ESPECIALLY since firefox, safari, chrome ALL download the response just fine with no problems. ONLY when we stick NGINX in the middle do things break and we end up with extra data in our json responses. Any idea how to fix this? as the doc above just seems wrong since we are now on later versions of http PLUS the browsers seem to work just fine. thanks, Dean

• Apache only transferring partial content from a Samba share

  I have an Apache server running on CentOS 5.3. It currently hosts 12 sites with no known issues. (I say this to point out that up to this point my Apache installation has performed flawlessly) I'm adding a new site where the DocumentRoot of the new VirtualHost is a Samba share. When at the command line of the server I can cp video.m4v ~ and the whole file is copied properly to my home directory. But when I try to access the file from IE/Firefox/Safari/Chrome it only passes back a partial result of 33k. The same thing is happening with my image and audio files. If I make the files local to the server by copying them from the share and then serving them up then the files transfer. Any ideas?

  I am running on Windows 8 and installed Lubuntu 13.04 in VirtualBox. I cannot login to DD-WRT in Virtualbox. I can login to DD-WRT on Windows 8. I have used the same credentials and tried many times, but to no avail. How can I login successfully to DD-WRT in VirtualBox? I have even tried searching on the Internet but I could not find any relevant solutions. Additional Information: Using Chromium ( I have tried it on Firefox and it does not work ) Enabled secure shell: but it still does not work. • Flash not working in Safari on OS X 10.5

  About 2 weeks ago my browsers started bothering me to upgrade flash. Eventually, I did, and now I have no flash at all in Safari. I downloaded and installed the newest flash installer from Adobe. Firefox works fine. Safari does not, I just get the blue lego and a 'No handler for this content type' message. Other plugins, such as 1Password, seem fine. I have tried: Reinstalling flash umpteen times Deleting /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/Flash Player.plugin and flashplayer.xpt Deleting ~/Library/Application Data/Safari I'm not sure what else to do.

• PXE Boot PCLinuxOS ISO

  I'm in the process of trying to convert some computers at my local school to be diskless browser stations. We've identified PCLinuxOS as the OS we'd like to use due to it's easy interface for creating custom ISO images (we need WINE and some custom apps installed also, as well as FireFox). I've been having problems figuring out how to get an ISO to boot via PXE. In our network, I only have access to TFTP and HTTP, so I cannot use NFS. The machines all have enough memory (4 gigs) that they could use a ram drive to hold the ISO image, if that helps. Currently I've been looking at GPXE with GRUB/MEMDISK, but I don't know if that's the right solution, or even where a good resource is for setting it up. Searching the web has proved fruitless, as most of the information is either NFS-specific or out of date. The other students and I would appreciate any help! :)

• Why screen freezes in Windows 7 and Vista?

  On Windows 7 and Vista I use auto-hide task bar and turn off graphic card after 1-2 minutes. When I want to use my desktop again screen freezes sometimes for 10 seconds. What I do does not effect anything immediately but cursor moves. For example if I click Firefox bookmark it opens when screen unfreezes. This happens at any of my computers and about a month after new installation. I don't think that problem is related with the drivers.

• Varnish 503 Guru Mediation errors with pfsense and healthy apache

  We are running a pfsense firewall / load balancer with varnish as service, In front of Fedora linux webservers running apache. We are getting intermittent 503 guru mediation errors. We are a bit stuck scratching our heads because it is not easily repeatable. The timeouts are set to 30s (connect and first byte) but yet the 503 page will show instantly, not after 30s. Then if you refresh immediately it may very well work instantly and sometimes for a 100 refreshes. The load average on the web servers is < 1, the DB server is < 3 (all servers (web, db, pfsense/varnish) are physical rather than VM. I would have thought if the timeouts were being hit then the 503 page would only appear after 30s am I mistaken? Also when an error happens there does not appear to be any corresponding error in apache's log files. This seems to affect pages as well as images, so it is possible to have the page load fine, and for 9/10 images on the page to be fine but 1 not work An example of the varnish debug is below. • How can i get more user debug logging related to kerberos for alfresco?

  I am running alfresco community edition 3.4c on a debian linux. I have problems getting the kerberos authentication in order. The biggest problem is that do not seem to have any sort of user logs. what i am using already: log4j.logger.org.alfresco.web.app.servlet.KerberosAuthenticationFilter=debug log4j.logger.org.alfresco.repo.webdav.auth.KerberosAuthenticationFilter=debug log4j.logger.org.alfresco.smb.protocol=debug log4j.logger.org.alfresco.fileserver=debug I've also checked if the users actually reach the server, and they do, (also on a linux firefox outside of domain, i seem to be able to log in). Can anyone help me get more user logging?

• Windows apps keep switching to accented text

  Somehow I keep hitting a shortcut key (or something similar) that enables the input of accented text. Whenever this accented text mode is enabled, pressing ' doesn't respond immediately; instead, the ' key is remembered, so if I press a vowel after that, I get the vowel with an acute accent mark, and if I press any other key, I immediately get an apostrophe followed by the other key. I don't want this to happen. It's very annoying. How do I disable this mode? I only remember seeing this in Firefox 3.6.3 and Pidgin 2.6.6, so maybe it's a GTK feature. It apparently happens on a per-application basis, and restarting the application fixes it. I checked Windows 7's "Region and Language" control panel and didn't see anything relevant (although I'm not intimately familiar with all of those settings, so I may have overlooked something).

  Firefox doesn't exit when I close the last tab, just by doing some customization in about:config. But now, my company has to work with some website that only works well on Internet Explorer. I currently use Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP SP3. So, how do I prevent Internet Explorer 8 from exiting when closing the last tab? I've searched for such a feature for a while but found nothing helpful. FYI I gave up with my "customization habit", now I'm trying to live with IE world, ... phew...

• Windows Authentication Website Asking for Credentials

  I have a website that has ASP.Net Impersonation Enabled and Windows Authentication Enabled. When navigating to that site using IE8 with "Enable Integrated Windows Authentication" (under Tools - Internet Options - Advanced) checked, the browser pops-up a "Windows Security" dialog box asking for User name and Password. My understanding was that this was automatically passed through and I would not need to type in those details. Additional Information: If I uncheck "Enable Integrated Windows Authentication" I do not get the pop-up window and it appears to work was intended (though that is the opposite of what I would be expecting) If I enable Windows Authentication in Firefox I do not get the pop-up window (i.e. works as intended) Are there some settings or similar that could have been set to create this behavior? Or has anyone else seen similar behavior and know how to fix?

• My HP-Vista based laptop has become very slow recently

  My HP laptop which has Vista Home premium. When I try to start Firefox, internet explorer, it becomes very slow. No other app. When i checked the Performance in Task Manager. It shows the Physical memory , Free as 0 bytes, almost always. This has been recently. Earlier it didn't used to be zero. Laptop has 2GB of RAM. I have nothing running in my tray except - Sound control, Laptop power plan indicator,Network status indicator. There are no other processes whose memory usage adds up to so high to make Free memory as 0. Then what could be hogging the memory and make the laptop very slow. Any pointers would help as it is crawling at the moment.

• Fastest booting desktop linux distro? [closed]

  I'm currently running Ubuntu 9.04 on my laptop and I'm very happy with it. But boot times aren't great... So I'd like to have a second distribution on my hard disc that I can boot to quickly check my email and stuff like that. It really only needs to run firefox and a terminal. Ext4 support would be a plus since my Ubuntu partition is ext4. In the next couple of hours I will try xPUD and DSL. Any other suggestions? EDIT: Tried xpud, hangs on boot.

• 503 service unavailable when debugging PHP script in Zend Studio

  I have a web server with apache 2.0 installed. It comes with Zend Server install pack. When I’m trying to debug my php files apache serves a blank page with 503 service unavailable. Of course slow server-side code is tying up Apache requests for far too long, but I need it to wait, until my debugging comes to end. When I call to the page from a browser it launches ZendStudio debugging my PHP script (request redirects Zend Debugger module). I debug through my script and if I finish debugging in 120 seconds, I normally return to the browser. When it takes more than 120 seconds the browser displays '503 service unavailable' and I can't return to page output. I have even forced 'max_execution_time = 300' 'max_input_time = 600' in php.ini and 'TimeOut = 500' in httpd.conf. No matter whether it is Opera, IE or Firefox. I spent two days googling it, no right answer until now.

• Empty $_POST data

  I am trying to post a post to my MyBB server from a Python script, but try as I might, I can't get it to work. The request shows up in the forensic log and the headers are in the $_SERVER variable, but $_POST is always an empty array. The error log shows nothing, even at the debug level. I've already tried searching, but I haven't found anything that's helped. I already checked the post_max_size thing, which is 8M. Another factor is that it's just my own requests which aren't going through. Browser generated requests seem to do just fine. I've looked and looked, but I can't find anything I'm doing differently that should matter. Anyway, here is an example request. • Increase Timeout for remote sessions in Debian 5 Lenny

  I always get a remote connection time out when using PuTTy and also when i send emails with attachments from a mail sever installed on Debian. I always get this error. I'm not sure if this is firewall or the new Debian 5 installation which i made. Is there any settings i need to fix after fresh install. Any inputs are highly appreciated. This error is pulling my brains out. Thanks.   On a multi-monitor system, if I'm viewing a full-screen video in Flash on one monitor, clicking the mouse on the other monitor causes Flash to leave full-screen mode and revert to normal size. What's the easiest way of preventing this that works on my version of Flash? My system is Flash 10 (10.0.12.36), in Firefox 3.5 on Windows Vista 64, but I think it affects all current versions. This is very annoying behaviour, but unfortunately, according to this bug report response it seem to be a security feature, rather than a bug: We understand that many users would like fullscreen on one monitor and to be able to interact with your OS on another monitor. However, due to security requirements, we require that Flash and Browser must be the current focus of your OS.
