• What are some good algorithms for drawing lines between graph nodes?

  What I'm specifically grappling with is not just the layout of a graph, but when a user selects a graph node and starts to drag it around the screen area, the line has to constantly be redrawn to reflect what it would look like if the user were to release the node. I suppose this is part of the layout algorithm? Also some applications get a bit fancy and don't simply draw the line in a nice curvy way, but also bend the line around the square shaped node in almost right angles. See attached image and keep in mind that as a node is dragged, the line is drawn as marching ants, and re-arranged nicely, while retaining its curved style.

  Im looking for a (free) solution to a bookingcalender. Among many candidates Ive found the Jquery Full Calender which has many cool features. One of the reason that I like this one is because it has "drag and drop" and resize, which I also need. But I also need to have the dayview where I the columms monday, tuesday, wedensday, thursday friday .... gets replaced with fx. Room1, Room2, Room3, Room4, Room5, Room6, Room7. • Image rendering on browser or temporary images?

  I'm trying to make a statistics page where it will show several data and charts. The charts need to be pictures so that the user can save it/drag-and-drop to his/her personal reports. I'm using Gruff Graphs for Ruby to produce the charts but I don't know the best way to display the results safe and protected. Some of my ideas/tries are: save the chart to a file (jpg, png)? problem: data is available to anyone (don't have access to cron, to delete data from time to time) render in the browser (has to work on IE)? Use javascript (Raphaël—JavaScript Library) or Google API and output a PDF report (need plugin or gem, right)? use send_data? i've tried to output other way than inline, because I needs to show other data, is it possible?   I have the exactly same problem as here: Windows XP TCP/IP No buffer space available On Windows XP Pro, SP3 if one does an experiment where one tries to open TCP/IP sockets in a loop (bascially, listen port 7000, listen port 7001, etc.) After approx 649 open sockets, one will start getting errors: No buffer space available (maximum connections reached?) I've tried to edit the registry as described here http://smallvoid.com/article/winnt-tcpip-max-limit.html I set MaxUserPort = 65534 and MaxFreeTcbs = 2000, but it didn't help. What else can I do? I need 1000 server sockets.   Possible Duplicate: How to enlarge a PDF document on Kindle? I have a kindle 6". The problem is that I often read pdf files that are technical, therefore, it doesn't get converted very well to Kindle's native format (for example, code blocks get messed, and things like that). When I watch the pdf page, it's very small to read easily, so I have to rotate the screen to a horizontal position in order to see it better, but my page get divided. But some documents would be easy to read in vertical position if I had the chance to enlarge the font size a little bit in a external pdf editor, therefore enabling the reading in the vertical orientation. Is there a way to change the font size in a pdf file?

• What's the best self-tracking software for Linux?

  I'm looking for a way to track myself and receive quality data upon which I can write future scripts/programs. For example, I use Google Reader a lot. I'd like to track the hrefs that garner my clicks. Further, I'd like to drop all of the words of each href into a database where they can be stacked in a hierarchical manner. At the end of the week I want to know that "Ubuntu" garnered 448 clicks and "Cheetos" garnered 2. :) That's just one example... I'd like this tracking and data-collecting to extend beyond my browser. I know writing something to do this myself wouldn't be too awfully difficult but if something already exists I'd happily use it. Thanks in advance. Primary OS: Ubuntu 10.04

• What virtual machine software for fail-over and snapshots?

  We're looking to virtualize a few machines with the hope that we can: a) Take "snapshots" of a machine to use as backups b) Implement a system where if the software/hardware fails, we can quickly and easily load up an recent snapshot on new hardware and replace the failed machine with a new one. As always, cost is a concern- there's only 3 or 4 servers we're going to do this with, so we don't want to drop $50,000 on this. I'm confused by all of the different virtual machine offerings. Which one is does what I want, and does it easily?

• Does Windows DFS always keep some files backlogged?

  I have been monitoring our DFS backlog and I have noticed that is hasn't really dropped below 1000 or so files. I am assuming this means it needs to use more bandwidth. So starting last night I allowed it to use 512Kbps between 6pm and 4am, when it used to only get 128Kbps. I noticed a large drop, but it never went below about 1500 files. I just want to be sure my conclusion about needing to use more bandwidth is correct before I tell my boss about it. • How do I prevent rpmbuild form injecting requirements into RPM package?

  I'm creating an RPM package from native Python 2.5 one. Out corporate policy is to use python2.4 by default, so I'm adding a string Requires: python25 to a .spec file. When I look at created RPM file though, i see the following dependencies: rpm -qR -p ZSI-2.1_a1-py25.noarch.rpm /usr/bin/python2.5 python(abi) = 2.5 python25 rpmlib(CompressedFileNames) <= 3.0.4-1 rpmlib(PayloadFilesHavePrefix) <= 4.0-1 Dependency added by me is present, but other dependencies are also here. I'm unable to provide python(abi) = 2.5 dependency, because of dumb python25 package generated by our IT department where provides tag is incorrect. How do I remove automatically added dependencies from generated RPM?

  I have a script which creates a drag-and-drop uploader on the page from a div. My DIV will look something like <div class="well uploader" data-type="image" data-callback="product.addimage" data-multi="1"></div> Then I'll have a function something like var product = new function(){ /* Some random stuff */ this.addimage = function(image){ alert('W00T! I HAZ AN IMAGE!'); } /* More random stuff */ } When the upload is complete, I need to call the function in data-callback (In this example, product.addimage). I know with global functions you can just do window[callback]() but I'm not sure the best way to do this with functions under objects. My first thought was to do something like* var obj = window; var parts = callback.split('.'); for(part in parts){ obj = obj[parts[part]]; } obj(); but that seems a bit dirty, is there a better way without using eval because eval is evil? I haven't tested this so I have no idea if it will work

  As I understood EAP-TTLS and PEAP share same level of security when implemented in wireless networks. Both only provide server side authentication via certificate. The drawback of EAP-TTLS can be non native support in Microsoft Windows so every user has to install additional software. The benefit of EAP-TTLS can be support for less secure authentication mechanisms (PAP, CHAP, MS-CHAP) but why would you need them in modern and properly secure wireless system? What are you opinions? Why should I implement EAP-TTLS instead of PEAP? Let's say that I have most Windows users, medium Linux users and least iOS, OSX users.

  Hello. I've seen millions of websites using nginx as a proxifying webserver working together with Apache. But I've seen very few servers running nginx only as their default webserver. What are the main downsides of such config? I can see some: Inability to use per-directory config files like .htaccess so every configuration change should be done to main server config file and requires server reload. But pecl htscanner can compensate them for php settings Unavailability of mod_php for nginx, which can be compensated by php-fpm for example. What are others? Why don't people just drop Apache and move to nginx or any other lightweight solution? May be, there are some special reasons?

• Anti-aliasing Japanese text on Windows 7?

  On most websites that display Japanese text, it does not appear anti-aliased in my browser, while Latin text of course does. Kanji is universially anti-aliased, which is somewhat understandable, but hiragana is not. This is only an issue on Windows - the Mac has much better & native font anti-aliasing which seems to work well regardless of the alphabet. Is there something on my end that I can do to fix this? And is there a way to ensure a website of my own creation displays anti-aliased Japanese text?

  Hello everybody In my App I'm trying to get PSMTabBarControl working, but all I do - nothing... I have copied the framework File in my Frameworks folder of my App, then included it. In my InterfaceBuilder (1.3.2) I was able to drag and drop the PSMTabBarControl to my Window and link it with the NSTabView (PSM - tabView - NSTabView && NSTabView - delegate - PSM), but after i tried a Demo (apple+r) I cant see the Tabs... Tried all I can - but dont know why.. Am I doing sth. wrong? Which other Framework or Source I can use to create Tabs like Firefox oder Safari? Thank you!

• BSOD on windows 7 with SSD during boot after improper shutdown

  I have a BSOD on windows 7 with SSD during boot after improper shutdown (while windows animation logo is moving). The computer restart imediatly after BSOD, and windows proposes to launch startup repair (if i do it, it takes +-5min and fixes the problem : computer starts normally). However, after any new improper shutdown, i got the same problem. Remarks: If i unplug, re-plug the SSD whyle system is shutdown, i have the same problem. If i reproduce the situation with old HDD, i havn't the problem Previously, i had a different problem: BSOD when waking up after sleep, which was fixed by installing drivers (ethernet, usb, graphic card) I have made ram chech and ssd check and found no problems Starting with safe mode after improper shutdown causes a BSOD at loading of classpnp.sys Configuration: System: HP compaq 8510p SSD: OCZ vertex-2 2.5 Boot options: SATA native mode - Enable, HDD transalation mode - LBA-assisted

• Add child to scene from within a class.

  Hi, I'm new to flash in general and have been writing a program with two classes that extend MovieClip (Stems and Star). I need to create a new Stems object as a child of the scene when the user stops dragging a Star object, but do not know how to reference the scene from within the Star class's code. I've tried passing the scene into the constructor of the Star and doing sometihng like: this.scene.addChild (new Stems ()); But apparently that's not how to do it...   It's OK (compatible) to install PECL native JSON (from here) in PHP 5.0.4, on a production server running FC4 where unfortunately I cannot update PHP to at least 5.2 ? If there is a good chance to screw up PHP instalation on the server, I will not try to install it, and I will stick to Service JSON ( http ://svn.php.net/viewvc/pear/packages/Services_JSON/trunk/ ) In documentation ( http ://aurore.net/projects/php-json/ ) I have found: A simple ./configure; make; make install should do the trick. Make sure to add an extension=json.so line to your php.ini/php.d. (but I can't find anythink about compatible versions of PHP) Thank you. (Please don't tell me to update the OS and PHP, beacause it's not my decision :( )

  Hi..i m currently working on visual c++ 2008 express edition.. in my project i have a picturebox which contains an image, now i have to draw a rectangle to enaable the user to select a part of the image.. • Maven not setting classpath for dependencies properly

  OS name: "linux" version: "2.6.32-27-generic" arch: "i386" Family: "unix" Apache Maven 2.2.1 (r801777; 2009-08-06 12:16:01-0700) Java version: 1.6.0_20 I am trying to use the mysql dependency in with maven in ubuntu. If I move the "mysql-connector-java-5.1.14.jar" file that maven downloaded into my $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/ext/ folder, everything is fine when I run the jar. I think I should be able to just specify the dependency in the pom.xml file and maven should take care of setting the classpath for the dependency jars automatically. Is this incorrect? • Keyboard Typing Problem

  Hello all, When i got home from work yesterday i couldn't logg in on my account on my desktop pc (Acer Aspire M5620). The reason for this was that when i was typing, more diggets would appear than i pressed. After logging on an account that required no password (my Dad's) i found out that some of my key bindings were messed up. For instance when typing: W --- qwe would appear q --- qw + right mouse e --- we a --- as s --- asd d --- sd z --- zx x --- zxc c --- xc Moreover pressing: 1 --- 12 2 --- 123 3 --- 23 I am typing this from my Dad's laptop (which is working like a charm). I was wondering if anyone has seen this problem before and thus knows a way to fix it. I'm not the brainy type when it comes to computers. Ps: I apologise for any mistakes in my English, for it is not my native tongue. I'm from the Netherlands

• How to telnet into facebook chat

  I was able to use facebook chat with an external application using the following information: First, find your Facebook username by going to http://www.facebook.com/your_user/. Next, Open iChat, then select iChat » Preferences and click on the Accounts tab. Click on the + (plus) sign to add a new account, with these settings: * Account Type is Jabber Account * Account name is [email protected], and enter your password * Click the drop-down arrow to reveal Server options. Enter chat.facebook.com as the server name. * Enter 5222 as the port and click Done. Click Done again, and you are good to go. From reading this, it seems that it might be possible to telnet into facebook chat. I tried, but wasn't able to. Is it possible? How?
