• Rewriting ASP.NET (.aspx) pages in Apache

  I managed to get ASP.NET to work in Apache, as per http://weblogs.asp.net/israelio/archive/2005/09/11/424852.aspx but I'm unsure how to get it to rewrite pages, with a web.config file. I've tried using Google endlessly, but came to nothing. What's the best solution for me to rename my pages, e.g. mytestpage.aspx to mytestpage.htm Also, anyone know how to get IIS and MySQL working? I've tried but I'm struggling to get it to work. I did this simply because I needed multiple sites on port 80 on localhost, and the website I'm developing is not suited to PHP. IIS is installed, but not being used at the moment. Thanks

  Hi! I'm searched adobe and android developers sites, but can't find any details on this. Is it possible to use Flash as a part of my app? E.g. like a widget/GUI element? Or it's integrated in browser only and can't be simple accessible? I know, Adobe AIR apps are supported as standalone .apk. So it must be some API/SDK (from Google) to connect with Flash player. There are two main styles Site 1 Site 2 Each site has some cusomtimizations based on language So each shop view has an some templates defined Site 2 - DE Site 2 - UK Now the problem is that when I apply a product level design, it forget's about the language level definition and skips back to the main definition. I want it to work like this Site 2 Site 2 DE Product Style But Instead it seems to work like this Site 2 Site 2 DE Product Style Where Site 2 DE is not ignored because a custom product style has been defined. How can I get the first hierarchy to work? So that my product styles do not override the language styles completely.

  I have this: class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :serials has_many :sites, :through => :series end class Serial < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user belongs_to :site has_many :episodes end class Site < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :serials has_many :users, :through => :serials end class Episode < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :serial end I would like to do some operations on User.serials.episodes but I know this would mean all sorts of clever tricks. I could in theory just put all the episode data into serial (denormalize) and then group_by Site when needed. If I have a lot of episodes that I need to query on would this be a bad idea? thanks

• When is it a good idea to use the CSS display property?

  I think I first learned of this property when I thought "I should put this list of items in a ul, but I want it to be laid out horizontally. I wonder if I can do that with CSS?" When I googled this, I found a couple of sites suggesting that I create a CSS rule that would change the value of the display property of the li elements to inline. I've also seen the suggestion that a div (or other block element) be given display: table-cell in order to force the vertical align property to work. These techniques seem kind of hacky. Does that make sense? This might not be a good analogy, but it seems like trying to ride a car as if it were a motorcycle. Yeah, I could replace the steering wheel with handle bars, wear a helmet, and remove all the passenger seating, but how the heck is a car going to drive on two wheels??

  Hi, I develope an application in C#.Net 2.0, Windows. The App has a RSS Feed Reader for specific sites (to collect the biggest news). I found a very nice DLL for this in which I can very easy read the RSS. But my problem is the design, I tried a lot, how to display easy, quick and nice, but it sucks like hell, I tried nerly every control in the toolbox and fill it with the RSS Feeds and it looks ugly. So knows anybody a control to display RSS feeds nicly? I know its an copy, but no one answers there.

  I've tried some HTML DOM code from several sites, but it isn't working. It isn't adding anything. I need it to have simple structure: it should listen to some url format like http://example.com/service/stream?write&id=ANY_STRING and if any data comes to such address format it'll start making it avaliable by something like this http://example.com/service/stream?read&id=ANY_STRING Main thing here to be able to stream live data thru WCF service not buffering it just sharing stream. So can please any one help me with such idea? I think not only I have seen such problem with WCF alot on different sites so answer will help the WCF comunyty alot. I hope. BTW: I know some people say WCF is not prepared for live streaming over bacikHTTPbinding but hey! We all need it to, and we ask MS alot so some day they'll make it beter and we all want to be prepared for it.

• Performance optimization for mssql: decrease stored procedures execution time or unload the server?

  Hello everybody! We have a web service which provides search over hotels. There is a problem with performance: a single request to the service takes around 5000 ms. Almost all of the time is spent in database by executing storing procedures. During the request our server (mssql2008) consumes ~90% of the processor time. When 2 requests are made in parallel the average time grows and is around 7000 ms. When number of request is increasing, the average time of response is increasing as well. We have 20-30 requests per minute. Which kind of optimization is the best in this case having in mind that the goal is to provide stable response time for the service: 1) Try to decrease the stored procedures execution time 2) Try to find the way how to unload the server It is interesting to hear from people who deal with booking sites.   I recently obtained a Mac so I could test our sites on Safari and Firefox for Mac OS. Now that Safari 5 is out, I'm not sure what I should do about upgrading. I presume what works on Safari 5 works on Safari 4, but I can't be sure, and vice versa. So, I don't know if I should upgrade and test on Safari 5 or keep on with Safari 4. Are there any major differences between these two version in terms of CSS (2.1) handling or JavaScript? When do you think the majority of people will have Safari 5 instead of 4? All thoughts appreciated.

• Working with version control on a Drupal/CMS project

  I was wondering how teams that develop sites using Drupal (or any other CMS) integrate version control, subversion, git or similar, into their workflow. You'd obviously want your custom code and theme files under version control but when you use a CMS such as Drupal a lot of the work consists of configuring modules and settings all of which is stored in the database. So when you are a team of developers, how do you collaborate on a project like this? Dumping the database into a file and putting that file under version control might work I guess, but when the site is live the client is constantly adding content which makes syncing a bit problematic. I'd love to know how others are doing this.

• Website/App on Dotcloud is down

  The website is nhslhs.tk . The last time I edited something was four days ago. I tried to get a calendar on the Django datable, but deleted it all and never actually pushed it to the Dotcloud server. Also, few hours before that I was able to update HTML files, push them, and see the edits on the website. The link should take you to a log-in page (this is available when you google "nhslhs.tk" and click cache view) but it takes you to a search magnified advertisement-esque page. On a few sites, people claimed the error was due to a Trojan horse virus or server being down. Do you know how to fix this? Thanks!

• PHP CURL works fine from localhost not from server

  I have 2 servers, srv1 and srv2. All client sites are stored in srv2 and all authentication details are stored in srv1. Each time a client site is loaded, the site in srv2 sends a curl request to srv1 to validate. I am always getting bool(false) when I print the curl response using var_dump. But if I am requesting for validation from my local wamp installation(localhost) it is perfectly returning the response. According to my understanding srv2 is blocking srv1 ip or something like that. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. The solution is really urgent as all my clients are stuck with invalid authorization message. Edit: Now when i tested curl in srv2 is working fine i think. Because I am able to fetch other websites without any trouble. But I am not able to fetch data from srv1. I can view a page from srv1 through browser url but not through curl.

• Connecting to TFS via ASP.NET, jQuery and Phonegap

  I want to develop a mobile application that would allow the user the ability to run a suite of automated test cases housed in TFS. This is something I thought of this morning so it's all still very preliminary. But I'm curious as to what would be the best route for something like this? Or if it's even possible? Because the mobile devices from the users will vary from iphones to droids, I would probably want to incorporate something like Phonegap for it's cross platform capabilities. My initial thought was to develop in ASP.net/C# (which would be stored on a remote server), and have jQuery make calls to that server. Not sure if that would be the most appropriate way of handling this. I'm not too familiar with JSON but I have seen it as a suggestion on various sites to handle the returned data. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

• MySQL - Counting rows in preparation for greatest-n-per-group not working?

  Referring to SO and other sites have given me examples of how to use MySQL to create a 'greatest-n-per-group' query. My variant on this would be to have a query that returns the first 3 rows of each category. As the basis for this I need to sort my data into a usable sequence and that is where my problems start. Running just the sequence query with row numbering shows that changes in category are mostly ignored. I should have 35 categories returning rows but only 5 do so. My query: set @c:=0; set @a:=0; SELECT IF(@c = tdg, @a:=@a+1, @a:=1) AS rownum, (@c:=tdg) , julian_day, sequence, complete, year, tdg FROM tsd WHERE complete = 0 order by tdg, year, julian_day, sequence Do I have a syntax mistake with this query?

  Hey, How often do we see stuff like "Send this page to a friend" on a webpages? Well, I see them quite often. My question is, how do you guys see it's effectiveness? If I hit a webpage that's interesting, and I think my friend would enjoy it, I can just copy the URL from my browser bar, paste it into the email and press "Send" button. In my opinion, it's usually faster and less mistake-aware then the button/link like this on the webpage. In addition, I'm not really sure what this website does with the emails I enter there - don't they store it and then sell for $1/100 addresses to spammers? My question is - when you design a website, do you put such links on the pages (it's often seen on sites with some news/articles)? Does it even make sense?

  We have a SharePoint Services 3.0 site set up supporting about 300 users right now. This report is isolated and has never been duplicated. We have one AD user who cannot log into the SharePoint site with his account from his machine and is subsequently returned a 401.1 error. If any other user tries to log on with their account from his machine, it works okay. If he moves to another machine and logs on, it works okay. The only solution to this point has been to install FireFox on the machine. When he authenticates with FF, everything is okay. Remedies tried so far: Cleared cookies/cache Turned off/on Integrated Windows Authentication in IE Downgraded IE 8 to IE 6 Removed site from Intranet Sites zone Renamed the machine Disjoined/Rejoined Domain

• Any Problems Using Samba as a Windows Domain Controller?

  We're looking to run a Windows domain using Samba+OpenLDAP on Ubuntu as a domain controller. The documentation out there is a bit spotty and out of date, especially when it comes to installation, which features are supported, and how well. Once this is set up, we hope to be able to use integrated authentication of our IIS sites (including Sharepoint) against the domain controller. Anyone out there who has done this already? • Deploy PHP website to client server without showing PHP files

  I asked a recent question regarding the use of readfile() for remotely executing PHP, but maybe I'd be better off setting out the problem to see if I'm thinking the wrong way about things, so here goes: I have a PHP website that requires users to login, includes lots of forms, database connections and makes use of $_SESSION variables to keep track of various things I have a potential client who would like to use the functionality of my website, but on their own server, controlled by them. They would probably want to restyle the website using content and CSS files local to their server, but that's a problem for later I don't want to show them my PHP code, since that's the value of what I'd be providing. I had thought to do this with calls to include() from the client's server to mine, which at least keeps variable scope intact, but many sites (and the PHP docs) seem to recommend readfile(), file_get_contents() or similar. Ideally I'd like to have a simple wrapper file on the client's server for each "real" one on my server. Any suggestions as to how I might accomplish what I need? Thanks, ColmF
