• Facebook Like button data for a domain?

  We make a widget for media sites and have included the Facebook Like button, so anyone who installs our widget gets the Like button on every page without having to do additional integration work. We'd like to show the site owner some basic data / analytics about Like activity... which URLs are liked, and how many times. I can't figure out if this is even available via the Graph API or FQL. If it is, I can't tell if I need an app_id and secret token for each domain or not. Any suggestions?

• Good resources for versioning...

  I have a number of Windows servers at work that are used for staging web sites for clients while they are being created. I wanted to start using versioning on them so that when we work with outside vendors on a project, if/when they overwrite my work, I'd like to be able to go back and get the version before. My question is that I think I'm not looking for the correct terms in searching for information, but what kind of resources are there to learn how to install the software for versioning or a site to help me get started.   Is there any way to create live streaming Server using WCF? I need it to have simple structure: it should listen to some url format like http://example.com/service/stream?write&id=ANY_STRING and if any data comes to such address format it'll start making it avaliable by something like this http://example.com/service/stream?read&id=ANY_STRING Main thing here to be able to stream live data thru WCF service not buffering it just sharing stream. I need code examples or OpenSource projects. So can please any one help me with such idea? I think not only I have seen such problem with WCF alot on different sites so answer will help the WCF comunyty alot. I hope.

  I have downloads for static files like product.exe. I want to limit access to these files with a .htaccess file so that only certain users can download it. I think this can be handled with mod_rewrite and I found this snippet online that blocks bad sites using the referrer. I know it may not be the best way to do it, and I guess the referrer can be spoofed, but it does not have to be THAT secure. I am also open to other ideas you may have to for limitting access.   I would like to be able to retrieve contents of a .txt file from the internet, and load it in an EditText. I tried using the code on this page: Reading Text File From Server on Android It didn't work, as you might have guessed. I've read on numerous sites about this type of problem, but I can't get anything to work. Someone suggested AndroidHttpClient (http://developer.android.com/reference/android/net/http/AndroidHttpClient.html), but I simply can't find any examples with this. As I'm a newbie in Android programming, I would love if someone could please give me a small example.

• Getting started with a facebook application

  I'm really new to Facebook application development, and I'm quite confused about application permissions and why the php sdk is so limiting and has so few precoded functions. First off, how do I check if a user has set proper permissions for my application, and if not, display that standard dialog immediately instead of using FBML and making them click the link? Secondly, how do I publish to a user's stream with the php apis? Finally, are there any good tutorial sites for making a php based canvas application that use the latest versions of all the sdks? Thank you for your help! I really don't see why so much of this is Javascript, it would really make much more sense to me to have things like: if(!$facebook->appHasPerm('publish_stream'){$facebook->showPermDialog('publish_stream');} I'd feel like I have much more control over the application if it worked like that.

• How do I avoid nesting forms when offering inline editing of lists with checkboxes for mass updates.

  A lot of sites offer the ability to edit lists of items inline as well as allowing multiple items to be selected via checkboxes and have an action performed all at once e.g. delete, mark as spam etc. But how do you implement this without violating html rules. I need one form for the checkboxes with individual submit_tags for the mass actions. But after a user clicks on an item in the list, another form via Ajax will be inserted within the checkbox form. How do I avoid doing this? I'm using rails and jQuery.

• .htaccess wildcard problem

  I've come across a problem with an .htaccess rule I can't sort out. It works on my MAMP stack and it works on 3 other servers, but it won't work on a particular server and keeps giving me a "500 error with an additional 302 error". It's the wildcard that's throwing it and from Google research it says it may be because of an infinite loop, but it works on other servers just fine. The site in question is being developed in a sub-directory, but then again, so have the other sites: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^$ public/ [L] RewriteRule (.*) public/$1 [L] /public has it's own .htaccess file that is: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?url=$1 [PT,L] Any suggestions as mod_rewrite's not my specialty and I can't seem to fix this.2

  I ask this because I am currently trying to work out my own technique, and there are huge strategic hangups for the entire site when your begin this. Of them are: Using jCrop and rMagick, it takes up a huge amount of processing ( to which I have backgrounded ). Because I have it backgrounded, I must by ajax develop a feature that auto-updates every five seconds to check when the backgrounding is done. Has anyone accomplished this with their sites? If so, what are some creative techniques you came across to keep the processing streamline, and the users happy?

My Server says I must break them into smaller or separate databases But I am at a loss as to how this is accomplished ? I seem to remember somewhere in the original install a option setting asking if wp should use separate data bases True or False and it was set to false by default ? but Now I can't seem to find it ? • How do you render a rails partial that is outside of a namespace in a view that is inside of a namespace?

  I've got a 'static' controller and static views that are pages that don't utilize ruby in their views. For these pages, I have a sitemap partial that is generated programatically and used in the application layout file. Namespaced routes still use the application layout file but are taking the static routes and trying to namespace them too. Here's the relevant portion of the route file: namespace :admin do resources :verse_categories resources :verses resources :songs resources :flowers resources :visits, :except => [:new, :create] end match ':action' => 'static' root :to => 'static#home' Here's the error I'm getting: No route matches {:controller=>"admin/static", :action=>"about"} Note that about is one of the static pages that the sitemap partial uses. So, how can I resolve this routing issue so that it's not trying to find my static sites inside of the admin namespace? Any help would be appreciated!

  Good morning - I'm an intermediate-level developer who wants to build on online data-driven app (CRUD with a few calculations and basic HTML form inputs, nothing fancy) that keeps track of user sessions, and looks "professional" (or at least not "homemade"). I'm willing to learn, if it's somethat I can use to quickly drag/drop, add code, and publish online. Templates would be a plus, too. I apologize is the question seems a bit vague.

  Suppose, a blog or a nice article was hosted on a website and it got deleted or worse the website was brought down. How do you view that web page? I tried searching for the cached version in Google. But, looks like the content was deleted long ago and is not listed in the search results directly. There are annotations to the link from many other sites, but still the actual content is not fully available. Now, can anybody help me see this page... I am actually looking for http://effectize.com/become-coolest-programmer :) And, moreover, in addition to bookmarking a favorite link, is it possible to cache the content of the link as well for later reference in case it gets deleted? • How can I know if a computer supports hardware-assisted virtualization before I purchase the computer?

  I'm an iPhone programmer who is no longer in possession of a personal Mac computer on which to use XCode. I have two Windows desktops, and I would like to run OS X in VMWare rather than purchase Apple's expensive hardware. However, neither of my machines supports hardware-assisted virtualization, which is required to virtualize OS X. I went shopping online for a computer today, since I've been planning to purchase a laptop anyway, but sites like Best Buy don't appear to give any indication of whether or not a product supports this. Is there any other site out there or some trick to figuring this out other than buying the machine and running Microsoft's nifty little detection tool?

• How can I use a carriage return in a HTML tooltip ?

  Hi, I'm currently adding verbose tooltips to our site, and I'd like (without having to resort to a whizz-bang jQuery plugin, I klnow there are many!) to use carriage returns to format the tooltip. To add the tip I'm using the 'title' attribute. I've looked around the usual sites and using the basic template of: <a title='Tool?Tip?On?New?Line' >link with tip</a> I've tried replacing the '?' with: <br /> &013; / &#13; \r\n Environment.NewLine (I'm using C#) Neither work. • Locking DB w/ Large Reads (Ruby-on-Rails/Heroku)

  Currently I have a Web API running on Heroku that is constantly writing information we're collecting from other data sources (currently theres about half a GB of data and it's growing very quickly). We're looking to add a reporting system on top of the current database that we can use to extract useful information out of the DB. The problem is that when we're running reports we're locking the DB and any other sites communicating with the DB are timing out. Does anyone have any solutions on how to solve this type of issue? Amazon RDS seems to have some interesting stuff with database replication but I don't know if that will solve my problems. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

• Moving from dedicated to shared cpanel - any scripts to do all / some of the install tasks ?

  Hi, I have a few hundred phpld sites to move - each has its own cpanel, ( & the target may have shared cpanel) & I can do a full cpanel backup on the original server, but I don't have whm on the current host - the backups are fairly easy to organize but the installs so far means picking through files & setting up db's & mail etc by hand - I am thinking there ought to be an easier ie scripted way to do the installs or at least some parts - can anyone please suggest something ? • Jquery Accordion and multiple slideshows

  I've been using a lot of slideshows recently on my sites and one thing thats puzzled me is using more than one slideshow per page. I'm currently working on my own site, experimenting with Jquery Accordion. I've managed to adopt a very simple javascript slideshow, see below: http://dvpwebdesign.com/test/accordion/blank.html However i'm unable to either incorporate or use a different multiple slideshow plugin. I dont need slideshow navigation, so the The Cycle plugin works really well and i know you can use multiple slideshows. But if i either use Cycle alongside the current javascript slideshow, or only use the Cycle slideshow to avoid any possible conflict, the Accordion menu stops working. I just cant see what i am doing wrong, can anyone help?

• How can I disable TinyMCE from stripping/modifying my HTML in Joomla?

  I've got a site running Joomla with TinyMCE set as the editor. One of the sites editors is now trying to embed a media player into an article but TinyMCE keeps messing up the HTML. I've tried setting the Extended Valid Elements, in the plugin config, to *[*] to allow anything and everything but it's not working. What I'd like is to disable the code stripping "feature" from TinyMCE all together. I don't want it trying to validate my HTML or anything like that. How can I disable the code stripping?

• Using a single PHP script for an entire site

  I had an idea today (that millions of others have probably already had) of putting all the sites script into a single file, instead of having multiple, seperate ones. When submitting a form, there would also be a hidden field called something like 'action' which would represent which function in the file would handle it. I know that things like Code Igniter and CakePHP exist which help seperate/organise the code. Is this a good or bad idea in terms of security, speed and maintenance? Do things like this already exist that i am not aware of?

  I know that in the sdk folders I can find some (not very well grouped, imho) icon. But, there is a site online specialized that let you download free icons useful for mobile app? Ie world flags, up, down... save, revert..., next..., play, stop..., etc. It would be more appriciated also if you can find these sets in many different colors, and in 2 or 3 sizes (32x32, 64x64, etc.). Have a nice day (ot. Especially my mom - her 62 birthday :-) Edit: those are all good sites, but to green-check the answer I need a small set with the common icons (I think moreabout 50-70 icons), in many different colors and in 2 or 3 different sizes (for lo-mid-hi definition devices). - If a so done site exists for free :-)

  I'm a person that learns best from example. Currently, I'm diving into the field of Web Development after fifteen years of developing desktop apps. I'm still getting used to all the web technologies used for developing modern web sites and everywhere I look, I see cool little UI elements and question how they're implemented. So I thought I'd ask you, the web experts...the wexperts :) What are some straight forward or creative ways you could code this grid-breaking arrow... The basic layout for this page looks like... What would the html/css code look like? Would you split the image into multiple images or could you use a single image? I'm sure this is a really simple concept and it completely boggles me. • Hard drive randomly sppeeding up

  Having a weird issue with my hard drive. Running Windows 7 with an I5 processor. At random times the hard drive will start running at top speed and gradually return to normal over the next two minutes or so. Going to Resource Monitor it shows a variety of things with high read or write numbers. Log files NTFS volume log, Windows prefetch, System/user/appdata, and Program data Norton are the usual top ones listed. This just started about three months ago although the computer is about 3 years old. Have run in safe mode with internet over the weekend going to all of my usual sites with no such speed up. Question 1 - what can be causing this? Question 2 - how can I find out where data is being sent(especially if over the net)? Thank you.
