• Virtualmin Configuration

  I am trying to get Virtualmin setup and have reached a point where my noobish sysadmin skills aren't getting the job done. This is the message I get now when I try and refresh the configuration of Virtualmin. BIND DNS server is installed, and the system is configured to use it. However, the default master DNS server XXXXXX is not a fully qualified domain name. Sendmail is only accepting SMTP connections on the following ports : 127.0.0.1 port smtp. Email from other systems on the Internet will not be accepted. This can be changed in the Sendmail Mail Server module. Please advise what I need to do to get Sendmail configured properly. Thanks!

• Battery management of a Macbook

  I bought a Macbook Pro last week. I mostly use (and plan to use) it like a desktop with an external monitor. I use the system at least 15 hours a day. Now using the coconut battery application, I figured out that the capacity has the current capacity has reduced to 98% of the design capacity. I was wondering what is the best way to manage battery. Should it be always either charging or discharging Should it be plugged in all time. I barely get 2 hours and 30 minutes on battery. Is that normal? I run XCode, VMWare Fusion (for Visual Studio), Mail app, Chrome (5-10 tabs) and Itunes (mp3). The brightness is 60% on battery. I already did the calibration.

• Alerting system for Munin

  I am very satisfied with munin as a monitoring tool (as I only have a simple 2-server setup) but its alerting system is very annoying as you can only configure it to send an e-mail upon every check which generates a warning or an error. It seems like the only option is to use Nagios but in Debian it has Apache as a dependency and I already use nginx on my monitoring machine. All I want is to have the possibility to silence/acknowledge the alarm while I am working on a fix, so that I don't get bombarded with e-mails. Nagios seems like an oversized solution for that anyway. Is there any simple solution for that or am I the only one who feels like he needs such a tool?

• How to legitimately work around ISP rate limits

  A lot of ISP rate limit the amount of e-mails that is sent from a particular IP address. What is the proper way to get around that rate limit? Our company has an iPhone application that sends many e-mails because of our large user base and many e-mails go to different ISPs that rate limit the number of messages coming from a specific IP. We do not send spam and we are a legitimate business. However, is there a better way to resolve this limitation rather than just getting a ton of IP addresses? Ideally, I wouldn't want to rely on a third party service to send mail. However, if its the only possible solution, we would consider.

  fail2ban just locked me out of our website because something from my desktop was hammering port 443 on the server (which is not in use). I saw my IP also requesting "GET /autodiscover/autodiscover.xml HTTP/1.1", so I assume that's what's going on on port 443 as well. But I only have 1 email account configured in Outlook and it's working just fine. The account is for the address [email protected] and said server will answer for example.com, but that server is not our MX and it is also not configured as an Exchange server in my mail account. So, why is Outlook still trying to retrieve those auto-configuration settings?

• Automated git push attempt does not work - authentication issue

  I'm trying to automate a very periodic git add/commit/push cycle using a shell script and cron under OS X 10.8.5. The script is as basic as one would expect it to be: cd /my/directory git add . git commit -m "a commit message with the date" git push -u origin master I've tried running it both as root as well as a non-root user. When I do this manually, I get a dialog box from OS X requesting that I authenticate the operation. Running the script (either using cron or just using sh) ends up sending a message (via mail) to whichever user's cron executed the script saying that it was unable to write a file in the .git directory because of a permissions issue (which is most likely manual execution requires authentication). Is there any way to circumvent this issue, or give the script permission to perform this operation without having me intervene each time?

• Best way to restore individual folders via Time Machine after clean Lion install?

  I'm doing a clean erase and install of Lion, and am looking for the best way to restore individual folders into my home directory via Time Machine. I've done a dummy run, clean Lion install, then 'browse other disks' in Time Machine, navigate to my home folder and 'restore' what I need, such as pictures/music and folders inside the .library folder (such as Mail and Keychains). However this method seems to give you odd permissions, like this: http://i43.tinypic.com/15y82v4.png Hence I wondered if anyone knows what the best method is to restore files and folders after a clean install. N.b I do not want to use the migration assistant, or 'restore OS from Time Machine' - as I specifically want to do a clean install, and just copy over what I need (some folders will be moved onto a separate disk to the OS, and some will remain on the same disk). I'm using the machine's LAN IP address as the host, and "nrahl" as the username. It connects to the server and prompts me for the password. Print node; add all unvisited direct subchilds to que; mark them as visited } } However, if we have to traverse a DIRECTED graph from a given node and not all nodes are accessible from the given node [directly or indirectly] how do we use BFS for the same. Can you please explain in this graph as well: a= b = d = e = d a= c = d Here if the starting node is b , we never print a and c. Am I missing something in the algorithm. • Exchange 2007: Auto reply message to senders (server side)

  I’ve a need to create an auto-reply for some of the users in my organization where, when a person sends an E-mail to e.g. [email protected] is faced with an automatically auto-reply with some message “closed during the holidays. We are back at… etc. etc. etc.”. I’ve tried to create a Transport Rule on our Exchange server but the only option I can find in the actions-window is to reply with a “Bounce message to sender with enhanced status code” but I guess that is not the precise action I’m looking for. How can I set up a server-side auto-reply, apply it to only a fixed number of users in my organization and create a message to the senders (which is outside the organization)?

• What does the email header "X-CAA-SPAM" refer to?

  I've got an application that sends out notification emails to users of the application (this is not spam; the information in these emails is solicited and useful, and is also a feature turned off by default and must be enabled by the user). The app is still in beta, and one of our testers reports that the notification emails are going to his junk mail folder in Outlook 2003. This is the only reported case of this, but I asked him to send me the email headers from the message, and I noticed that there is a header there labeled "X-CAA-SPAM" with a value of 00000 . I'm a programmer, so I'm fairly green in the world of successful automated emails - does anyone know if this header is the culprit? If not, any suggestions?

• Anyone has implemented SMA* search algorithm?

  I find the algorithm description in AIMA (Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach) is not correct at all. What does 'necessary' mean? What is the memory limit? The queue size or processed nodes? I'm in the process of designing and testing various ideas for an application whose main functionality will be to notify users of occurring events and offer them with a choice of actions for each. The standard choice would be to create a queue of events showing a popup in the taskbar with the events and actions, but I want this tool to be the less intrusive and disrupting as possible. What I'm after is a good book or papers on studies of how to maximize user productivity in these intrinsically disruptive scenarios (in other words, how to achieve the perfect degree of annoying-ness, not too much, not too little). The user is supposedly interested in these events, they subscribe to them and can choose the actions to perform on each. I prefer books and papers, but the usual StackOverflow wisdom is appreciated as well. I'm after things like: Don't use popups, use instead X Show popups at most 3 seconds Show them in the left corner Use color X because it improves readability and disrupts less That is, cognitive aspects of GUI design that would help users in such a scenario.

• Can an arbitrary email adress be used in workflow send email activity

  I'm wondering if there is any way to be able to include an arbitrary email address as the To:, From:, CC: or BCC: fields of a send email activity? It appears that they must be contacts in the CRM. I ask this because I have a requirement to cc a known group email (no actual user associated with the email...something like [email protected] it's not a queue at all). I'm concerned that if I create a CRM user for this email, that when I move to production, I'll have to change all the workflows using this email to point to the CRM entity on the production box (assuming GUID is saved with activity). If an arbitrary email isn't possible, any other suggestions? Thanks!

The mailserver shares the same IP address, so my typical DNS config is: www.mydomain.com A -> IP mydomain.com A -> IP ftp.mydomain.com A -> IP mail.mydomain.com A -> IP mydomain.com MX(10) -> IP I read some Q&A on this site where they suggest to add PTR record mainly for mailserver. I would like to add PTR record to my domain, I have got two questions: 1) can PTR record be added even if the hosting/mailserver are on a shared IP address? Or do I need a dedicated IP. 2) How do I setup PTR record, I mean does it look like A record: mydomain.com (PTR) -> myip

  I've been using a relatively expensive VPS for hosting about 30 domains and I want to migrate to a cheaper one, without Plesk. Both use CentOS. My users will not care, they don't use Plesk anyway. But I will not be able to use it for creating new virtual hosts, FTP accounts etc. I'm not a commandline guru, esp. not in a server environment. Is there a free Plesk alternative for these purposes?   I have some e-books that I've downloaded from Project Gutenberg and some other sources to my MBP. They are all DRM free. Excluding e-mail them to my Kindle as a personal document as a method (the total size is more than 5 GB, the space provided by Amazon), is there any way to transfer these books to my Kindle App on my Nexus 7 (Android Tablet). I have the Kindle App version 3.1.7 I've already seen the question Can I sync books I didn't buy from Amazon via Kindle app? but that is not the answer I'm looking for. Thanks
