• What tools do people use to make programming tutorial videos?

  Hi folks, I'm wanting to make some yee-run-o-the-mill tutorial video's about some programming concepts and stuff i've been doing. Nothing special ... lots of peeps been doing it. What tools are people using to record and edit these videos? What resolutions / fonts / sizes do people generally use/set? The only tool I've had experience with is Camtasia - and i didn't mind it. But i've seen vid's (or live demo's) where people zoom in to code sections.. how do they do that? For final editing, do most people just do some simple power point presentation with some video snippets mashed in. cheers!

  I have an HD 250 Gb It is portioned to C,D,E C has 50 GB D has 50 GB and the rest is given to E, On C I have Windows 7, I decided to install Opensuse On E. I have installed Opensuse Successfully. Now Opensuse loader shows Windows7 option when I it loads but, when I chose to load windows 7 I get " A Disk read error occured, press ctrl+alt+e to restart". Does any one has an Idea How to fix windows 7 and keep Opensuse ? My Opensuse is 12.2. Thanks

  I have an external hard drive (HD-PXTU2 Series). I used it for more than 6 months now, what I liked about it was its password protect utility that comes together with the drive. However the problem is the password protect utility is not compatible with MAC ( I'l be regularly transferring data between MacOS and Windows). But what if I would need to do it efficiently? For instance, if the resource's size would be huge? • HP does not power off after shutdown (Vista)

  My HP d330 does not properly shutdown, after Vista "shutting down" message the lcd screen goes black, but both HD + Power Leds remain on.. Any ideas? No entries in EventViewer about this. Keyboard leds no more work after this partial shutdown so I assume hardware is partially shutdown..? Same problem occurs when I choose Sleep from shutdown menu

• Any way to assign terminal output to variable with python?

  I need to grab the duration of a video file via python as part of a larger script. I know I can use ffmpeg to grab the duration, but I need to be able to save that output as a variable back in python. I thought this would work, but it's giving me a value of 0: cmd = 'ffmpeg -i %s 2>&1 | grep "Duration" | cut -d \' \' -f 4 | sed s/,//' % ("Video.mov") duration = os.system(cmd) print duration Am I doing the output redirect wrong? • How does youtube enable ascii videos?

  Just by messing around a little it seems that the video stream is not ascii. i tested by downloading the stream. It would be insane if it was. Theres so many videos. So that couldnt be it. Youtube seems to not work with javascript disable (not counting mobile if true). How is it being done? is it javascript magic? is the SWF running the video through a filter in realtime? (I doubt its a native filter so how is the filter compiled) its really cool. I cant imagine how this is running realtime yet it is!

• Drawing problem does ShowWindow(hWnd, SW_HIDE) automatically invalidate rectangles?

  Hello, I'm running into a problem where, I have a Window that contains a child window. The child window contains another child window where a video is playing using Windows Media Player. Whenever I do call ShowWindow (hWnd, SW_HIDE) on the parent Window and paint over the entire surface, the region occupied by the grand-child window (where the video was playing) is not overridden. I used spy++ and found that that region which was not overridden was set to hidden BEFORE the repaint occurs. I monitored the hwnd of the grand-child window and it did not seem to receive any WM_EraseBKGND or WM_NCPAINT messages. Does this mean the area it occupied had not been invalidated and therefore could not be drawn over? I'm new to winforms. Thanks!

  Hello, I have this string that may contain some urls that I need to grab. For instance, if the user does: www.youtube ... or www.vimeo ... or http://www.youtube ... or HttP://WwW.viMeo I need to grab it (until he finds a space perhaps). and store it on a already created array. The need is to separate the vimeo links from the youtube ones and place each of those on the appropriate video object. I'm not sure if this is possible, I mean, if the URL coming from the browser could be used to be placed on a predefined video object. If it is, then this is the way to go (so I believe).   Beginners and professional, on blogs, in forums and chatrooms - people say it everywhere: C++ oh dear god no The short form of the question: For what reason is C++ so widely disliked and people are horrified by the imagination of using it for some project? I have been using a lot of different languages, including C++ by now, and I can only say that I really like it. I'm far more horrified by Delphi than by C++. Actually, I find it's an almost perfect, compiled language! I've been doing a lot of different projects in C++ as well, ranging from 3D video games to webservers and emulators for old video game consoles. I've done the simple 'god-mode' and 'unlimited money' things, but I want to do alot more than that. (Simple editing using WriteProcessMemory) There are memory addresses of functions on the internet of the video game I'm working on, and one of functions is like "CreateCar" and I'm wanting to call that function from an external program. • Dual boot, win7 & ubuntu. Gparted, resize not move. Performance?

  I installed dual boot on a computer that already had win7 installed. The question here is about gparted ability to move partitions. I made place for ubuntu in the computers "Data" partition, by resizing it. But I canceled the "move" action. Was that incredibly stupid, or is this care? Maybe performance is affected. • TV not detected by Windows/VGA - when there is a WHDI device in the signal chain

  I'm at my wit's end with this one... I had an EVGA GTS 250, and I used to plug it's HDMI out into a WHDI sender, which transmitted to its corresponding WHDI receiver 15ft away, which then connected to a Samsung LN40D LCD TV through another HDMI cable. PC/VGA < [hdmi cable] < WHDI sender <[air] WHDI receiver < [hdmi cable] < TV It was perfect, stable, no perceivable latency. I just plugged everything the first time and it worked instantly. It sent 5.1 audio, and Windows/nVidia Control Center detected the TV by its name. The WHDI device is this one: http://goo.gl/Q8iWI5 Now I bought an EVGA GTX 650, and WHDI doesn't work anymore. Both Windows and nVidia Control Center won't detect the TV, only the monitor that's connected via DVI. The TV screen shows "TX202913 connected. Check video signal." on top of a black screen. Though the device is not the problem itself, just the fact that it's not allowing direct connection between PC and TV. I would bet that if put an AVR in its place I'd also have this issue. The HDMI on this new card works with other monitors. If I put the older card back, WHDI works normally. I have googled this for 5 months on and off. Once I bumped into a page that showed how to force a display device to always-on through registry edit. Once I restarted windows, the Tv (through WHDI) displayed my expanded or duplicated desktop at 1024x768 ONLY, and listed the display as "digital display". I could not change the resolution and it wouldn't playback audio (although the option was available at nVidia Control Center HDMI audio options, but did not work). This proves that there is no conflict between the devices, except that software-wise, Windows cannot, for the life of it, understand that there's a TV there to send video/audio to. Since this won't do (no audio, poor video), I reverted this regedit. It's also not an EDID problem within the TV, since when connected directly it works. The last weird bit of this saga is that today, I reminded of Windows' "Add Device" dialog, gave it a go, and a "Samsung Generic UPNP TV" showed up, which I promptly installed the drives for, rising to a climax of... ...NOTHING HAPPENING. As far as I can tell, it really didn't change anything other than using up a few kb in my main disc. I should also say that I looked a LOT into handshake problems and nothing applied either. Do any of you have an idea of what may be going on? I can't stand the thought of having a us$200 device not working because of the addition of a newer graphics card, when the much older one had no issues. There is absolutely NO REASON for this to happen. There is NO documentation on WHDI online. Apparently no one buys this stuff. For the same reason, no one responded to this same plea for help on NVidia and EVGA forums. Worst case, this can be a warning about this setup for people in the future. Thanx in advance.

• IP Micro-outages, telephone micro-outages, and CATV micro-outages

  This is a long and complicated question, mostly because it has been going on for 2.5 years without a solution in sight. It also is only one-third computer related, the other two-thirds are cable TV and cable-phone related. Background I have COX Communications for a cable provider, and we get Internet, digital cable TV, and digital phone service through them. The Internet is a SB5101 right now, and has been a DPC2100 and SB5120 in the past. Same results. The phone service is provided through a telephone interface mounted on the outside of the house (not classic VoIP) and the CATV is through a Scientific Atlanta receiver without DVR. I do have a TiVo connected to the CATV box. Symptoms The CATV shows "blocking" -- sometimes very very short duration where a few blocks appear on the screen. Sometimes it lasts long enough that the video "pauses" for 2-5 seconds, and rarely but not unseen the audio also fails. The CATV decoder box shows no correctable (FEC) or uncorrectable errors. That is, all BER counters are zero for the video stream. The Internet shows "micro-outages" where it appears that sent packets are not making it out, but I continue to receive packets from local modems. That is, pings stop coming back, but I continue to see modems broadcast for DHCP, and sometimes they ask more than once. The cable modem shows no errors during this time, but cable modems lie like you would not believe. It is actually possible to unplug the coax from the modem for 20 seconds and it reports NO ERRORS to the provider's tools. The phone service cuts out for 1-3 seconds, infrequently. When this happens, I hear NOTHING (not even comfort noise) and the remote side hears a "click" as if I were getting a call waiting message. However, there is no call incoming, other than the one I'm currently on of course. Things SEEM to happen more frequently when the temperature outside swings from cold to warm, so fall/spring seems worse than summer/winter. All micro-outages occur between once or twice a day (which I could ignore) to 10 times per hour. All SNR, signal levels, noise levels, etc. show very close to optimal when measured. COX's diagnosis This is a continual pain for me. Over the last 2.5 years, they have opened, "fixed" something, and closed the tickets. They close it without confirming that it is indeed better, and when I reopen they cannot do that, but instead they open a new ticket and send yet another low-level tech out to do the same signal tests and report that all is OK. I've finally gotten a line tech who has a clue and is motivated enough to pursue this with me. We have tried things like switching the local nodes over to UPS and generator power, but this does not trigger the noise. We have tried replacing all cabling, the tap outside my house, the modem, the CATV decoder -- all without resolution. Recently they have decided it is both my computer or switch, my TiVo, and my phone that are all broken and causing this issue. My debugging steps I spent the worse day of my TV-watching life yesterday and part of today. I watched live TV without the TiVo. I witnessed blocking, but it did "feel different." and was actually more severe. Some days it is better, some days it is worse, so perhaps this was just a very bad day. Today, I connected the TiVo to my DVD player, and ran two very long movies through it. I saw no blocking at all during nearly 6 hours of video. Suggestions? Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do next? I understand perhaps only the IP side can be addressed here, but it is one of the more limiting debugging options.
