  • Multiple IP addresses on one NIC register twice in DNS server

    Hi, We've got a build server (Windows Server 2008 SP2, 64-bit) which has one NIC and two IP addresses registered to that NIC (192.168.1.30 and 192.168.1.31). The build server is registering two identical Host (A) records for itself in our DNS server: buildserver.example.com = 192.168.1.30 buildserver.example.com = 192.168.1.31 I know in the "Advanced TCP/IP Settings" window for the build server's NIC, under the "DNS" tab, there is a check box labeled "Register this connection's addresses in DNS". I only want ONE of the IP addresses (ending in .30) to be registered in DNS not both of them. Can that be done? My best guess is to disable the "Register this connection's addresses in DNS" and manually add the Host (A) record to our DNS server. Thanks for any help!

I guess there should be an option for spamassassin to connect to a remotely database and submit/grab results there. How can I achieve this?

  • SQL 2005 AD Group permission levels

    I'm trying to give permissions to a (sql 2005) database app based on AD groups. The general idea is to require a user to have a membership to "app_users" to view anything, and membership to other groups gives them write access to that group. "app_customers" gives write access to the customers module, "app_sales" to sales, etc. I've listed an example below: user1: AD member of app_users user2: AD member of app_users, app_customers For dbo.customers table: app_users - Granted: Select permission - Denied: Insert, Update, Delete app_customers - Granted: Select permission - Granted: Insert, Update, Delete I would expect user1 to be able to view the dbo.customers table, but will not be allowed to modify anything (insert/update/delete) - which works. In the same vein, I would expect user2 to be able to view AND modify the dbo.customers table, since they are a member of app_customers. However, this is not the case. Instead, user2 is denied any modifications just like user1. I seem to remember something about deny permissions winning if there was a conflict, but it's honestly been too long since I've dealt with them. Am I going about this the right way?     So I've thought of creating a web application in either Lisp or another functional language and was thinking of embedding the web server into the application (have my application handle the HTTP requests). I don't see any issues with that, however, I'm new to creating web applications (and in the grand scheme of things, programming as well). Is there any drawbacks to handling HTTP requests within your program instead of using a web server? Are there any benefits?

    Hi all, I'm looking to get a Windows Server 2003 box in the middle of my linux network. :( I'm just concerned about CAL licensing for it. No devices will access any network server function of Windows Server 2003. I don't need Windows for DHCP or DNS or file and print sharing. I have linux boxes to do that! xD I just need a box running Windows (of some variety) to host those few apps that have to run on Windows like my AV management console. In short do I need any CALs for my server if its not acting as server itself. I think Windows Server 2003 comes with 5 CALs which can be per user for the admins to use RDP? Thanks, Phil

  • Server can't set IP after power outage

    The power went out all of a sudden and when we tried to restart everything when it came back on - our server can't be assigned an IP? We got an error stating that the IP for the server was already in use by another system. We then shut down all systems and restarted the server but then for some reason the server was assigned an IP but no one could connect to it - after restarting the server after setting it to have a dynamically assigned ip - the server now has no ip - just 0.0.0.0 - running an ipconfig/renew or ipconfig /release has no effect.. what should we do!!

    Possible Duplicate: Problems installing OS on Dell PowerEdge R410 I am trying to configure a Dell PowerEdge R310 server with Windows Server 2003. I've already configured the two hard drives as RAID1. The HD controller is PERC H700 Integrated and Adapter. Trying to stay with Windows Server 2003 on this fairly new server to save on cost and keep the configuration the same as my old server, which has been running like a champ for five years. Problem: During the OS installation, after everything has been copied from the installation CD, the installation hangs at a window labeled 'Windows Setup' with the message 'Setup is starting Windows' at the bottom. I'm wondering if this is a driver problem and if so, where can I get the drivers for the R310 or where can I get the media for the latest version of Windows Server 2003 which may include the necessary drivers? Will certainly appreciate some help here.

  • VPN only connects to its server!

    Hi guys; Previously I bought a windows 2003 VPS and enabled routing and remote access so that users can make a vpn connection. I turend the firewall off and everything was working fine. But since 2 days ago whenever I try and connect to vpn it connects to vpn without any problem and I can see the connection status however it only connects to the server I mean what I can do with this vpn is to connect to the server via remote desktop and I can ping only the server's IP, neither I can open any webpages in browsers or ping other IP addresses beside the server one! I've also rebuilt the server and configured it for routing access and vpn connection from the beginning but it doesn't work either. It seems that server fails to route the traffic properly, as i'm sure that the firewall has been turned off I can't figure out what's the reason, any idea what's going on? Thanks in advance

    After a recent 'emergency migration' of a RS cloud server, the mysql databases on our server snapshot image proved to be days out of date from the backup date. And yet files that were uploaded through the impacted webapp had been written to the file system. Related metadata that was written to the database was lost, but the files themselves were backed-up. Once I was able to manually access the mysql data files before the mysql server started (server was configured to start mysql on boot), I was able to see that the update time for ib_logfile1, ib_logfile0 and ibdata1 was days old. As with this poster, mysql data loss after server crash, it's as if some caching controller had told the OS / mysql server that it had committed data that was still in cache, and it was lost instead of flushed. I can't quite wrap my head around how the uploaded files got written but the database data did not. I would have thought that any cache would have flushed system wide, rather than process by process. Any suggestions as to how this might have happened?

PING 74.208.192.xxx ==> Ping fails PING 74.208.192.xxx:80 ==> Ping fails with a message "Ping request could not find host 74.208.192.xxx:80" Both clients A and B are on the same subnet. The server is outside (a virtual server hosted by an ISP) I have an ASP.NET application in a virtual directory on the server. In IE or firefox, if I enter http://74.208.192.xxx/subdir/subdir/../Default.aspx, it works from both the clients! The server has default firewall settings but web server enabled (Port 80 is open). From client A (note the different 'reply to' address when the ping succeeds.     hi there i am running server 2003, and seem to have this problem where the server starts kicking out users after a while, especially when they log off, they cant log back in, or the printers on the metwork stop connecting and they cant print to it. when i check the server, i notice that the server has 2 IP addresses, even though it has a static IP, it seems to pick up another IP address as well, but when you go into teh IPV set up, its not there, but of you run the IP scan utility tool, it picks it up. to correct this, i either can log off the server, then log back in, and the IP disappears, or sometimes this doesnt work, and i need to restart the server, but thsi happens like every 2 days or so.....can anyone out there help?

  • how to split a very large database on sql server

    I have a 90 GB SQL Server database that I want to make more manageable. It stores stock data from 50+ different stocks from 2009 and 2010, and each stock is a separate table. Some tables have hundreds of millions of rows, and other have just a few million. What I want to do is somehow split the database, so that I don't have a single database file that is 90 GB. What I want is to be able to somehow magically split all the tables so that I can backup the 2009 data once and not have to keep on including it in the backup every time I backup the entire database, however, I would like the 2009 data to be included whenever I do a query. Is partitioning the database the way to go? Will it do the above for me, or will I need some other solution? I research partitioning, but I wasn't sure if that would solve all my problems. I wasn't able to find anything that would tell me whether or not it would migrate prexisting data, or whether it only worked for newly inserted data. Any help or pointers would be much appreciated. (the same) Sockets: 4 (the same) Remote Desktop: 2 (the same) IIS: true (the same) Application Server: Only standard. I will run my server as a single CPU (4 core) 8GB RAM, 2x raid1 web-server running: IIS Asp.net .Net 4 Third part mail server. (Only for sending mail from my web-application) SQL Server Express (My data is not more then 10 GB) Some minor applications for import and export of data. I might use external load balancer if I install a second machine in the future. My question is if you see any reason for me to go for standard that is 4 x price compared to web. BR Andreas

  • How to build a turn-based multiplayer "real time" server

    I want to build a TCG for mobile devices that is multiplayer over the web (not local wifi or bluetooth). As a player plays cards I want the second player to see what is being played in "real time" (within a few seconds). Only one player can play at a time. Server requirements: 1) Continuously listens for input from Player 1 2) As it receives input from Player 1, sends the message to Player 2 I know some PHP, but it seems like unless I had a loop that continued until I broke it (seems like a bad idea) the script would just receive one input and quit. On the mobile side I know I can open sockets using various frameworks, but what language allows a "stream-like" behavior that continuously listens/sends messages on the server? Or if I'm missing something, what would be the best practice here?

    In Ubuntu 11.04 Server when I would log in via ssh it would tell me how many packages are available for updating in the welcome message. After upgrading to 11.10 I no longer get that information.   • Redundant Microsoft server solution for small company

    I'm planning to change one server Microsoft SBS 2003 with SharePoint, Exchange and SQL database into something that will provide me with some redundancy and won't be single point of failure. I was thinking to buy 2x exactly the same physical servers and put 2 virtualized servers on HyperV or VMWare on each. Then i would put SharePoint, Exchange and SQL on that 1 physical server (shared onto 2x VM's). I would like 2nd physical server to be exact duplicate of the first one so that when 1st server goes down (for reboot or hw failure), 2nd takes care of everything so that users don't even see anything changed (in terms all their emails, sharepoint stuff is available). My questions are: Will I have to pay for licenses for both servers even thou only one instance of SharePoint, Exchange, SQL will be used at same time? What are proposed solutions to do that? Any additional hardware I would need, any complicated software configuration to be expected to configure such redundancy so that when one physical server goes down 2nd one is taking care of rest? What problems should I expect? This solution is for 60 people. Later on it may or may expand.

  • SQL Server Backup File Significantly Smaller After Table Recreation

    We run automated weekly backups of our SQL Server. The database in question is configured for Simple Recovery. We backup using Full, not differential. Recently, we had to re-create one of our tables with data in it (making 2 varchar fields a couple characters longer). This required running a script which created a new table, copied the data over, and then dropped the old. This worked correctly. Oddly though, our weekly backup files now SHRANK by over 75%! The tables don't have large indexes. All data was copied over correctly (and verified). I've verified that we are doing full and not incremental backups. The new files restore just fine. I can't seem to figure out why the backup files would have shrank so much? I've also noticed that they get about 10 MB larger every week, even though less than that amount of data is being added. I'm guessing that I'm simply not understanding something. Any insight would be appreciated.
