• How do you extract data from a Date/Time widget from a C++ MFC dialog in VS2008

  This is a fairly basic question, but I haven't been able to find any from-to guides from VS6-VS2008. I have a dialog box that contains controls of various types, I've discovered the way of auto-generating OnBnClickedMyFooBarButtonHere() methods via the Properties dialog on the dialog editor. I can also use CWnd::GetDlgItemText(int ,CString &) to extract text, and the oddly paramaterized GetDlgItemInt(int, bool*, bool) to extract signed integers, but is there really no other option for a Date or Time value other than Manually adding in all the DDX_ crap that the class wizard used to do in VS6 Using GetDlgItemText and then parsing whatever it gives me?

• In which document do file specifications belong?

  In which document would a file specification belong? Perhaps this file is used as an input to a third-party system. Would it belong in its own document? Or would it be better to put it in the functional or design spec? Or somewhere else? When I say file specification, I mean a description of what format the file is (CSV, fixed width, etc), columns, data types, etc. Also, where should you document how the file is generated? i.e. business rules/algorithms which are used to generate the file.

• grailsApplication not getting injected in a service , Grails 2.1.0

  I have service in which i am accessing few configuration properties from grailsApplication I am injecting it like this class MyWebService{ def grailsApplication WebService webService = new WebService() def getProxy(url, flag){ return webService.getClient(url) } def getResponse(){ def proxy = getProxy(grailsApplication.config.grails.wsdlURL, true) def response = proxy.getItem(ItemType) return response } } When i call getProxy() method, i see this in tomcat logs No signature of method: org.example.MyWebService.getProxy() is applicable for argument types: (groovy.util.ConfigObject, java.lang.Boolean) values: [[:], true] Possible solutions: getProxy(), getProxy(java.lang.String, boolean), setProxy(java.lang.Object) which means grailsApplication is not getting injected into the service, is there any alternate way to access configuration object ? according to burtbeckwith's post configurationholder has been deprecated, can't think of anything else. Interestingly the very same service works fine in my local IDE(GGTS 3.1.0), that means locally grailsApplication is getting injected, but when i create a war to deploy to a standalone tomcat, it stops getting injected.

  Hi, I have a table, department , with several bit fields to indicate department types One is Warehouse (when true, indicate the department is warehouse) And I have another table, ManagersForWarehouses with following structure: ID autoinc WarehouseID int (foreign key reference DepartmentID from departments) ManagerID int (foreign key reference EmployeeID from employees) StartDate EndDate To set new manager for warehouse, I insert in this table with EndDate null, and I have a trigger that sets EndDate for previous record for that warehouse = StartDate for new manager, so a single manager appears for a warehouse at a certain time. I want to add two check constraints as follows, but not sure how to do this do not allow to insert into ManagersForWarehouses if WarehouseID is not marked as warehouse Do not allow to uncheck Warehouse if there are records in ManagersForWarehouses Thanks

  Basically, I am attempting to render an external website (the url of which is stored in the database) into a page in my Ruby on Rails app. I have a field in my model 'search' called 'search' that contains web addresses with the form 'www.example.com' or 'example.com'. I am trying to use a link_to_function call with replace_html to replace the 'maincontent' div with an iframe tag using the value of 'search' in the current instance as the src for the tag. My current attempt is the very ugly code below. I'd be grateful for either of the following types of responses: How can I rewrite the concatenation string to work correctly? How can I get the same effect (replacing the current content of the "mainContent" div with an iframe tag using a different method? • Consolidating separate Loan, Purchase & Sales tables into one transaction table.

  INFORMIX-SE with ISQL 7.3: I have separate tables for Loan, Purchase & Sales transactions. Each tables rows are joined to their respective customer rows by: customer.id [serial] = loan.foreign_id [integer]; = purchase.foreign_id [integer]; = sale.foreign_id [integer]; I would like to consolidate the three tables into one table called "transaction", where a column "transaction.trx_type" [char(1)] {L=Loan, P=Purchase, S=Sale} identifies the transaction type. Is this a good idea or is it better to keep them in separate tables? Storage space is not a concern, I think it would be easier programming & user=wise to have all types of transactions under one table.

  I'm currently trying to optimize the sluggish process of retrieving a page of log entries from the SQLite database. I noticed I almost always retrieve next entries along with count of available entries: SELECT time, level, type, text FROM Logs WHERE level IN (%s) ORDER BY time DESC, id DESC LIMIT LOG_REQ_LINES OFFSET %d* LOG_REQ_LINES ; together with total count of records that can match current query: SELECT count(*) FROM Logs WHERE level IN (%s); (for a display "page n of m") I wonder, if I could concatenate the two queries, and ask them both in one sqlite3_exec() simply concatenating the query string. How should my callback function look then? Can I distinguish between the different types of data by argc? What other optimizations would you suggest?

The Wiki page for Data Store API hasn't been updated recently and the second last update says the beta Data Store was taken offline. It seems odd the link would be readily available and highly visible at the top of the App configuration area if indeed it's defunct. I was hoping some kind of key/value pair solution to remove the data calls from my own server.

• How to disable typing in values in Dojo's NumberSpinner?

  Hi, is there a way to disable typing in of values in the NumberSpinner of Dojo? Or is there a way for me to set back a previous value to it? Here's a sample situation: I have a spinner where the range is 1-3. However, the user types in an invalid value... say, a letter. The usual error handling happens. However, if the user deletes the value and focuses out (e.g. goes to another widget/control/etc. in the page), the spinner stays blank. Either I reset it to the last valid value or I disable typing so that the user can just use the up and down arrows to manipulate the widget. Any thoughts? Thanks!

• Using 50+ 3rd party web services, should I use BizTalk or just C#?

  I'm building a back-end application that needs to fetch data on various schedules from over 50+ 3rd party web services and that number will continue to grow. The data from these services can currently be grouped into 3 types so each response needs to be mapped to 1 of 3 known schemas. Writing custom c# to hit each web service appears to be a management nightmare never mind having all that data mapping in code. The current thinking is build this on top of BizTalk 2009, still a lot of maintenance but at least a well defined platform with mapping/transformation capabilities already. I'm looking for any advise from anyone who might have done this before, does this really buy us anything? I am aware of a lack of polling features in BTS however there are enough work arounds to feel comfortable about the solution. Thanks!

  I am developing a web application in which I will have customers and suppliers. Initially I thought on using a Customers table and a Suppliers table. Then when I was thinking on bank transactions, I noticed that each transaction needs to refer to a customer or a supplier, so I thought on using a single table named Business in which I will save both customers and suppliers. If I use Customers and Suppliers tables when I want to list the bank transactions I will have to search in both tables to get the company name. If I use a Businesses table I will have to use a business type column, and have the union of possible fields for all businesses types. Any suggestions on the design?

• Date or String declaration in a javabean

  Should I declare an attribute in a javabean that holds a date value a user types in on an HTML form as a String or Date? I feel I should declare as a Date, however, since I do server validation on all form data, if the date doesn't validate, when I pass the form bean back to the jsp view for correcting, I lose the date value that the user tried to type in. If I declare as a String, if the date doesn't validate, I'm able to set the string value in the bean and pass the bean back to the view and the user can see what they incorrectly typed. But with a String declaration for Date inputs I forsee problems down the road with my DAO. I want to be able to use a DAO utility which generates a prepare statement using setObject. In my html form I request dates to be mm/dd/yyyy and in DAO i'm using Oracle Date. I can not use hibernate or such, since this is a corporate intranet. What is the best practice "pattern" I should be following??

I have to work with an application in C++ similar to a phone book: the class Agenda with an STL list of Contacts.Regarding the contacts hierarchy,there is a base-class named Contact(an abstract one),and the derived classes Friend and Acquaintance(the types of contact). These classes have,for instance, a virtual method called getName,which returns the name of the contact. Now I must implement the Composite pattern by adding another type of contact,Company(being derived from Contact),which also contains a collection of Contacts(an STL list as well),that can be either of the "leaf" type(Friends or Acquaintances),or they can be Companies as well. Therefore,Company is the Compound type. The question is: how and where can I implement an STL find_if to search the contact with a given name(via getName function or suggest me smth else) both among the "leaf"-type Contact and inside the Company collection? In other words,how do I traverse the tree in order to find possible matches there too,using an uniform function definition? I hope I was pretty clear...

  How do I achieve this:- When user types character like 'abcd' and then '>'(an invalid character for my application), I want to set the text back to 'abcd'. Better if we can cancel the input itself as we do in winforms application. This should happen when user is typing and not on a click of button.   When I serialize an object, I can use the serialVersionUID mechanism at the class level to ensure the compatibility of the two types. However, what happens when I serialize fields of enum values? Is there a way to ensure that the enum type has not been manipulated between serialization and deserialization? Suppose that I have an enum like OperationResult {SUCCESS, FAIL}, and a field called "result" in an object that is being serialized. How do I ensure, when the object is deserialized, that result is still correct even if someone maliciously reversed the two? (Suppose the enum is declared elsewhere as a static enum) I am wondering out of curiosity - I use jar-level authentication to prevent manipulation.

• Efficient retrieval of lists over WebServices

  I have a WCF WebService that uses LINQ and EF to connect to an SQL database. I have an ASP.NET MVC front end that collects its data from the webservice. It currently has functions such as List<Customer> GetCustomers(); As the number of customers increases massively the amount of data being passed increases also reducing efficiency. What is the best way to "page data" across WebServices etc. My current idea is to implement a crude paging system such as List<Customer> GetCustomers(int start, int length); This, however, means I would have to replicate such code for all functions returning List types. It is unfortunate that I cannot use LINQ as it would be much nicer. Does anyone have any advice or ideas of patterns to implement that would be "as nice as possible" Thanks

  Hi, what I'm trying to do is.. if a user types in [[0,0,0], [0,0,1], [1,1,0]] and press enter, the program should convert this string to several lists; one list holding [0][0][0], other for [0][0][1], and the last list for [1][1][0] I thought tuple thing would work out but no luck... :( I started phython yesterday -- (I'm C / C++ guy.) and cannot use the full advantages of this language...   So I keep having this small problem where I have something like func :: a -> b -> [a] -- or basically any a-> ...-> [a] where ... is any types -> func x y = func' [x] y -- as long as they are used to generate a list of [a] from x func' :: [a] -> b -> [a] func = undefined --situation dependant generates a list from each element and returns it as one long list should I keep it like this? should I use func' hidden by a where? should I only use the [a] - b - [a] version and leave the responsibility of passing [variable] to the callee? I might well need to compose these functions and might want to mess around with the order so I'm leaning towards option 3. What do you think?

• Rails - inheritance hierarchy of classes where a subtype can play two roles

  I need to model Owners and Rentees in an application, so you have stuff that is always owned by someone and can be rented for someone else. I first approached this problem with Single Table Inheritance because both types of person will share all attributes, so you would have a model called Person associated to a table people with Owner and Rentee inheriting from Person. The problem is that Single type inheritance discerns subtypes using a field type and therefore a record in the table can represent either an Owner or a Rentee but not both at the same time, while in the real context you can have an Owner which is renting something from another Owner and therefore that person is at the same time an Owner and a Rentee. How would you approach this problem? Would you use separated tables for owners and rentees? Is there any other type of table inheritance in Rails?
