• Can not delete row from MySQL

- by Drew
Howdy all, I've got a table, which won't delete a row. Specifically, when I try to delete any row with a GEO_SHAPE_ID over 150000000 it simply does not disappear from the DB. I have tried: SQLyog to erase it. DELETE FROM TABLE WHERE GEO_SHAPE_ID = 150000042 (0 rows affected). UNLOCK TABLES then 2. As far as I am aware, bigint is a valid candidate for auto_increment. Anyone know what could be up? You gotta help us, Doc. We’ve tried nothin’ and we’re all out of ideas! DJS. PS. Here is the table construct and some sample data just for giggles. CREATE TABLE `GEO_SHAPE` ( `GEO_SHAPE_ID` bigint(11) NOT NULL auto_increment, `RADIUS` float default '0', `LATITUDE` float default '0', `LONGITUDE` float default '0', `SHAPE_TYPE` enum('Custom','Region') default NULL, `PARENT_ID` int(11) default NULL, `SHAPE_POLYGON` polygon default NULL, `SHAPE_TITLE` varchar(45) default NULL, `SHAPE_ABBREVIATION` varchar(45) default NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`GEO_SHAPE_ID`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM AUTO_INCREMENT=150000056 DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 CHECKSUM=1 DELAY_KEY_WRITE=1 ROW_FORMAT=DYNAMIC; SET FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS = 0; LOCK TABLES `GEO_SHAPE` WRITE; INSERT INTO `GEO_SHAPE` (`GEO_SHAPE_ID`, `RADIUS`, `LATITUDE`, `LONGITUDE`, `SHAPE_TYPE`, `PARENT_ID`, `SHAPE_POLYGON`, `SHAPE_TITLE`, `SHAPE_ABBREVIATION`) VALUES (57, NULL, NULL, NULL, 'Region', 10, NULL, 'Washington', 'WA'); INSERT INTO `GEO_SHAPE` (`GEO_SHAPE_ID`, `RADIUS`, `LATITUDE`, `LONGITUDE`, `SHAPE_TYPE`, `PARENT_ID`, `SHAPE_POLYGON`, `SHAPE_TITLE`, `SHAPE_ABBREVIATION`) VALUES (58, NULL, NULL, NULL, 'Region', 10, NULL, 'West Virginia', 'WV'); INSERT INTO `GEO_SHAPE` (`GEO_SHAPE_ID`, `RADIUS`, `LATITUDE`, `LONGITUDE`, `SHAPE_TYPE`, `PARENT_ID`, `SHAPE_POLYGON`, `SHAPE_TITLE`, `SHAPE_ABBREVIATION`) VALUES (59, NULL, NULL, NULL, 'Region', 10, NULL, 'Wisconsin', 'WI'); INSERT INTO `GEO_SHAPE` (`GEO_SHAPE_ID`, `RADIUS`, `LATITUDE`, `LONGITUDE`, `SHAPE_TYPE`, `PARENT_ID`, `SHAPE_POLYGON`, `SHAPE_TITLE`, `SHAPE_ABBREVIATION`) VALUES (150000042, 10, -33.8833, 151.217, 'Custom', NULL, NULL, 'Sydney%2C%20New%20South%20Wales%20%2810km%20r', NULL); INSERT INTO `GEO_SHAPE` (`GEO_SHAPE_ID`, `RADIUS`, `LATITUDE`, `LONGITUDE`, `SHAPE_TYPE`, `PARENT_ID`, `SHAPE_POLYGON`, `SHAPE_TITLE`, `SHAPE_ABBREVIATION`) VALUES (150000043, 10, -33.8833, 151.167, 'Custom', NULL, NULL, 'Annandale%2C%20New%20South%20Wales%20%2810km%', NULL); INSERT INTO `GEO_SHAPE` (`GEO_SHAPE_ID`, `RADIUS`, `LATITUDE`, `LONGITUDE`, `SHAPE_TYPE`, `PARENT_ID`, `SHAPE_POLYGON`, `SHAPE_TITLE`, `SHAPE_ABBREVIATION`) VALUES (150000048, 10, -27.5, 153.017, 'Custom', NULL, NULL, 'Brisbane%2C%20Queensland%20%2810km%20radius%2', NULL); INSERT INTO `GEO_SHAPE` (`GEO_SHAPE_ID`, `RADIUS`, `LATITUDE`, `LONGITUDE`, `SHAPE_TYPE`, `PARENT_ID`, `SHAPE_POLYGON`, `SHAPE_TITLE`, `SHAPE_ABBREVIATION`) VALUES (150000045, 10, 43.1002, -75.2956, 'Custom', NULL, NULL, 'New%20York%20Mills%2C%20New%20York%20%2810km%', NULL); INSERT INTO `GEO_SHAPE` (`GEO_SHAPE_ID`, `RADIUS`, `LATITUDE`, `LONGITUDE`, `SHAPE_TYPE`, `PARENT_ID`, `SHAPE_POLYGON`, `SHAPE_TITLE`, `SHAPE_ABBREVIATION`) VALUES (150000046, 10, 40.1117, -78.9258, 'Custom', NULL, NULL, 'Region1', NULL); UNLOCK TABLES; SET FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS = 1;

• InstallShield 2010 with license - no license for automatic build system (CI) as Windows service

- by Gilad
I really need help here. We are using CI build-process (Hudson) as an automated build system using Msbuild. The CI run in Apache Tomcat 6 that run under the credentials of a domain user (not a local Windows user ). Every time the CI try to build an InstallShield project (using isproj files) we get a license error message: " C:\Program Files\MSBuild\InstallShield\2010\InstallShield.targets(62,3): error : -7159: The product license has expired or has not yet been initialized. You must launch the IDE to configure the product license in order to proceed. C:\Program Files\MSBuild\InstallShield\2010\InstallShield.targets(62,3): error : Exception Caught". If I log in to the same machine with the same domain user credentials and build the InstallShield project there is a license and it is working well. Adding the user to the local Users group doesn't help (no license). Adding the user to the local Administrators group helps and it is working. We do not want the user to be in the local Administrators group - for various reasons. What do I need to do to make it work? Do I need to add permissions to the use? Help will be highly appreciated. • ProgressDialog not working in external AsyncTask

- by eric
I'm beginning to think that to get a ProgressDialog to work the AsyncTask has to be an inner class within an Activity class. True? I have an activity the uses a database to manipulate information. If the database is populated all is well. If it is not populated then I need to download information from a website, populate the database, then access the populated database to complete the Views in onCreate. Problem is without some means to determine when the AsyncTask thread has finished populating the database, I get the following Force Close error message: Sorry! The application has stopped unexpectedly. I click on the Force Close button, the background AsyncTask thread continues to work, the database gets populated, and everything works ok. I need to get rid of that error message and need some help on how to do this. Here's some psuedo code: public class ViewStuff extends Activity { onCreate { if(database is populated) do_stuff else { FillDB task = null; if(task == null || task.getStatus().equals(AsyncTask.Status.FINISHED)) { task = new FillDB(context); task.execute(null); } } continue with onCreate using information from database to properly display } // end onCreate } // end class In a separate file: public class FillDB extends AsyncTask<Void, Void, Void> { private Context context; public FillDB (Context c) //pass the context in the constructor { context = c; } public void filldb () { doInBackground(); } @Override protected void onPreExecute() { ProgressDialog progressDialog = new ProgressDialog(context); //crashes with the following line progressDialog.show(context, "Working..", "Retrieving info"); } @Override protected Void doInBackground(Void... params) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub try etc etc etc } } What am I doing wrong?

• Aspnet_merge error has no detail

- by dang57
I have been attempting to add a Deployment Project to my web app. When I build it, I get a message "An error occurred when merging assemblies: Exception from HRESULT: 0x806D0004". There is no other detail, like ILMerge error, or Duplicate Name. I have "verbosity" set to "Diagnostic", and this is the output: Command: C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\WebDeployment\v8.0\aspnet_merge.exe "\...XXX...\My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Projects\XXX_deploy\Debug" -o XXX_deploy -debug -copyattrs The "AspNetMerge" task is using "aspnet_merge.exe" from "C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\WebDeployment\v8.0\aspnet_merge.exe". Utility to merge precompiled ASP.NET assemblies. An error occurred when merging assemblies: Exception from HRESULT: 0x806D0004 C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\WebDeployment\v8.0\Microsoft.WebDeployment.targets(474,9): error MSB6006: "aspnet_merge.exe" exited with code 1. Done executing task "AspNetMerge" -- FAILED. Done building target "AspNetMerge" in project "XXX_deploy.wdproj" -- FAILED. Done building project "XXX_deploy.wdproj" -- FAILED. Build FAILED. I have tried running the command via the Command prompt, but it does not give any additional information. I have also removed EVERYTHING from the project, including references, style sheets, forms, tableadapters. I still have a web.config, but deleted all app-specific lines. I added a single new form named Default. I have even tried renaming that form to DefaultX, just in case there was another Default out there. I still get the error. What else can I look for? I'm running VS 2005 v8.05. Thanks Dan

• AjaxMin4 bug with Visual Studio 2010 RC?

- by KevinUK
When I compile my solution I get 2 errors which I did not get with version of 1.1 of AjaxMin. The "SourceFiles" parameter is not supported by the "AjaxMin" task. Verify the parameter exists on the task, and it is a settable public instance property. The "AjaxMin" task could not be initialized with its input parameters. If I re-install AjaxMin4 then reload VS it works again until I reboot the PC. Is this a known issue and is there a fix?

• MSI Log Debug Log Sink

- by Todd Kobus
I have an InstallShield MSI project. When I pass an MSIHANDLE from an InstallScript custom action to a managed assembly initialized via DotNetCoCreateObject(), the value received within my managed code is -2. Does anyone know if it is possible to access an MSIHANDLE from an InstallScript custom action that calls into managed code via DotNetCoCreateObject()? I'd like to log my custom action results to the same log file as the rest of the installation. I am using InstallShield 2010, Windows Install 4.5 and .Net 3.5.

The collection List _customobject is containted in the ListView ViewModel class. My Query: I want to invoke a view that show properties of custom object, when user double click on any row of ListView. The ListView double click command is binded to the ListViewDoublClick Command in the view model. The CustomObject is in the event argument of listview double click command. To acheive this I have to pass the custom object ( or an unique id property of custom object through which I can retrieve the custom object from the collection) as command parameter. Please suggest me the solution!!

Hi all, If I where to have a Queue holding a collection of objects (Custom object,bool,bool,bool,bool) and the custom object holds three doubles itself. Can I use the .Take(IntegerValue) command to only take one of the doubles (for the specified take length) from the custom entity contained in the queue and cast it to a double array, possibly with the .ToArray<double> function? • What is better: set up underestimated or overestimated deadlines?

- by sergdev
Suppose you are a project manager. You can estimate an effort in days for specific task for specific developer. After performing estimation you obtain some min and max values. After this you delegate a task to developer. Actually you also set up deadline. Which estimation is better to use when set up deadline: min or max? As I see min estimation can result in stress for developer, max estimation can result in using all the time which is allocated to developer even if task can be complete faster (so called Student syndrome). Which other pros and cons of two approaches? Small clarification: I speak about setting up deadlines for subordinates when delegating the task, NOT for reporting to my boss.

• How to reflect in the database a new belongs_to and has_many relationship in Ruby on Rails

- by Ken I.
I am new to rails (usually a python guy) and have just been trying to build a simple task manager application for fun. I am using Devise for authentication and have a single Task object I am trying to relate to a user. I have added the following to the Task model: class Task < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user end and I have added the following in my User model for Devise: class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :dreams <<normal Devise stuff>> end Whenever I added this information I then ran: rake db:migrate. It then gave me an error that the database field did not exist for user_id when I tried to do anything with it. I am sure it is something rather simple that I am missing. Thanks for the help.

• WPF Enable/Disabled controls from a page placed inside main window application

- by toni
Hi! I have an WPF application that has a main window. In the left side of this Window there are some buttons into a listbox, it is a kind of menu to access faster to pages. These buttons belongs to pages that they are loaded inside the window when the user selects one. Main window also has another main menu in the top for doing other tasks. When a page is loaded in the main window and the user clicks a button of this currently loaded page, it starts a task that takes a long time. While this long task is executing I want the user can not select (or press) any of the buttons into the listbox because In the loaded page the long task also is updating the UI for this page. I would like to disabled (isEnabled=false) the listbox when long task is executing and not to enabled it until the long task has finished. How can I do this? I mean, from the page is currently loaded I want to disabled the listbox placed in the main window that is the owner. The listbox doesn't belong to the currently loaded page. Thanks!

• BackgroundWorker From ASP.Net Application

- by Kevin
We have an ASP.Net application that provides administrators to work with and perform operations on large sets of records. For example, we have a "Polish Data" task that an administrator can perform to clean up data for a record (e.g. reformat phone numbers, social security numbers, etc.) When performed on a small number of records, the task completes relatively quickly. However, when a user performs the task on a larger set of records, the task may take several minutes or longer to complete. So, we want to implement these kinds of tasks using some kind of asynchronous pattern. For example, we want to be able to launch the task, and then use AJAX polling to provide a progress bar and status information. I have been looking into using the BackgroundWorker class, but I have read some things online that make me pause. I would love to get some additional advice on this. For example, I understand that the BackgroundWorker will actually use the thread pool from the current application. In my case, the application is an ASP.Net web site. I have read that this can be a problem because when the application recycles, the background workers will be terminated. Some of the jobs I mentioned above may take 3 minutes, but others may take a few hours. Also, we may have several hundred administrators all performing similar operations during the day. Will the ASP.Net application thread pool be able to handle all of these background jobs efficiently while still performing it's normal request processing? So, I am trying to determine if using the BackgroundWorker class and approach is right for our needs. Should I be looking at an alternative approach? Thanks and sorry for such a long post! Kevin

• MSDN Example of handling an exception from the TPL - Is this a race condition?

- by David
I'm looking at the TPL exception handling example from MSDN @ http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd537614(v=VS.100).aspx The basic form of the code is: Task task1 = Task.Factory.StartNew(() => { throw new IndexOutOfRangeException(); }); try { task1.Wait(); } catch (AggregateException ae) { throw ae.Flatten(); } My question is: Is this a race condition? What happens if task1 throws before the try has executed? Am I missing something that stops this being a race? Shouldn't it be written like this instead: try { Task task1 = Task.Factory.StartNew(() => { throw new IndexOutOfRangeException(); }); task1.Wait(); } catch (AggregateException ae) { throw ae.Flatten(); }

• Android application transparency and window sizing at root level

- by ajoburg
Is it possible to create an application with a transparent background on the root task such that you can see the task running beneath it when it is part of a separate stack? Alternatively, is it possible to run an application so the window of the root task is only a portion of the screen instead of the whole screen? I understand how the transparency and window sizing is done with activities that are not the root task and this works fine. However, the root task of an activity seems to always fill the whole screen and be black even when a transparent theme is applied to the application object in the manifest file. ApplicationManifest.xml: <application android:icon="@drawable/icon" android:label="@string/app_name" android:debuggable="true" android:theme="@style/Theme.Transparent"> Styles.xml <resources> </resources> Colors.xml <resources> <drawable name="transparent_background">#00000000</drawable> </resources>

• VSDBCMD deployment for additions to third party databases

- by Sam
We have some custom objects (stored procedures etc) in an SQL Server 2005 database belonging to an ERP system. The custom objects are in different schemas to the ERP objects. We're using Database Edition .dbproj projects and vsdbcmd deployment for all our custom application databases and would like to similarly manage our custom objects in the ERP database. It's not clear how this can be done without either: Importing all ERP objects (~4000 tables) into the .dbproj and manually keeping them in sync with ERP development. Visual Studio fell over the only time I tried importing these, so I've no idea whether it can actually handle a project of this size. Somehow excluding the ERP schemas (there are two) from the diff process to ensure they don't get dropped by vsdbcmd. I haven't found any documentation which suggests this is possible. I'm aware of the IgnoreDefaultSchema setting, but there are two schemas I need to ignore and I'm not comfortable with the 'default schema' approach - deployment by different users could be disasterous. Has anyone managed to successfully use .dbproj & vsdbcmd for custom additions to a third party database? If not, how do you manage SQL source control & deployment?

• Handling Exceptions for ThreadPoolExecutor

- by HonorGod
I have the following code snippet that basically scans through the list of task that needs to be executed and each task is then given to the executor for execution. The JobExecutor intern creates another executor (for doing db stuff...reading and writing data to queue) and completes the task. JobExecutor returns a Future for the tasks submitted. When one of the task fails, I want to gracefully interrupt all the threads and shutdown the executor by catching all the exceptions. What changes do I need to do? public class DataMovingClass { private static final AtomicInteger uniqueId = new AtomicInteger(0); private static final ThreadLocal<Integer> uniqueNumber = new IDGenerator(); ThreadPoolExecutor threadPoolExecutor = null ; private List sources = new ArrayList(); private static class IDGenerator extends ThreadLocal<Integer> { @Override public Integer get() { return uniqueId.incrementAndGet(); } } public void init(){ // load sources list } public boolean execute() { boolean succcess = true ; threadPoolExecutor = new ThreadPoolExecutor(10,10, 10, TimeUnit.SECONDS, new ArrayBlockingQueue<Runnable>(1024), new ThreadFactory() { public Thread newThread(Runnable r) { Thread t = new Thread(r); t.setName("DataMigration-" + uniqueNumber.get()); return t; }// End method }, new ThreadPoolExecutor.CallerRunsPolicy()); List<Future<Boolean>> result = new ArrayList<Future<Boolean>>(); for (Source source : sources) { result.add(threadPoolExecutor.submit(new JobExecutor(source))); } for (Future<Boolean> jobDone : result) { try { if (!jobDone.get(100000, TimeUnit.SECONDS) && success) { // in case of successful DbWriterClass, we don't need to change // it. success = false; } } catch (Exception ex) { // handle exceptions } } } public class JobExecutor implements Callable<Boolean> { private ThreadPoolExecutor threadPoolExecutor ; Source jobSource ; public SourceJobExecutor(Source source) { this.jobSource = source; threadPoolExecutor = new ThreadPoolExecutor(10,10,10, TimeUnit.SECONDS, new ArrayBlockingQueue<Runnable>(1024), new ThreadFactory() { public Thread newThread(Runnable r) { Thread t = new Thread(r); t.setName("Job Executor-" + uniqueNumber.get()); return t; }// End method }, new ThreadPoolExecutor.CallerRunsPolicy()); } public Boolean call() throws Exception { boolean status = true ; System.out.println("Starting Job = " + jobSource.getName()); try { // do the specified task ; }catch (InterruptedException intrEx) { logger.warn("InterruptedException", intrEx); status = false ; } catch(Exception e) { logger.fatal("Exception occurred while executing task "+jobSource.getName(),e); status = false ; } System.out.println("Ending Job = " + jobSource.getName()); return status ; } } }
