• Colspan in IE7/8 not respected

  The DOM looks like this: <table> <tr> <td>a</td>...<td>g</td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="3"> <table> ... </table> </td> </tr> <tr> <td></td>...<td></td> </tr> </table> Any idea why this wouldn't work in IE? I tried setting width:auto on the TD holding the inner table, and table-layout:fixed isn't viable because the tabular data is generated dynamically. What could be going wrong?

• debug javascript in release mode with yui compressions

  In our build scripts, we are using YUI compressor to minify/compress javascript and css files. As this combines the js into one file, it needs to be referenced in the Master Layout script, e.g. First question is what is best way to use both, so that if we are developing (in debug mode) it will reference each js file individually? Second question, is once on production, would there be any steps/solution to debugging the javascript on the production server, i.e. conditionallly load the javascript files based on setting a "debug=true" setting in either js or .net?

• Looking for help with a design for a simple C# calendar app.

  As a personal project, I'm putting together a C# WPF calendar. I'm stuck on coding the calendar screen - specifically, the 5x7 grid of days. I've first tried to code it using elements like Panels, Labels, and Buttons. I've decided that was too cumbersome. I've then decided to use GDI to draw the calendar myself. I now have a wonderful layout - but I'm not sure how to handle interactive regions of the calendar. (Say, Previous/Next month, clicking on any particular day...) After rendering the calendar screen, should I be creating button objects for all those tasks, and assigning onClick handlers to them? Or is there an alternative solution?   If you have checked out the new MSDN layout recently you will notice that there are tabs for example code: Do you see that there is room for F# (is there really anyone using that?) but not for Delphi! My question is: can we all ask Microsoft to add a Delphi tab and as a community take care off adding samples. • Snatching the code of a Facebook fan page canvas?

  I am trying to snatch the code of this fan page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/See-oho-nieps-YothG-RRofiLe/106340746065367 I need the function that suggests the fan page to the users friends automatically (not for spamming purposes as the above fan page is used for). Now by looking at the source, I know that the code is under the pagelet_tab_content, but not all of it. I have copied that part and pasted it into my own fan page. The layout looks identical but the functions does not work. Obviously something is missing. For instance, I cant find the in the source which is strange, as I know for definate that it is being used. I have been working with this all day without any result. Maybe there is someone more intelligent and experienced that could help me out?

• Can't Reorder a UITableViewCell into _some_ empty sections of a UITableView

  If I have a UITableView in edit mode, w/ reordering turned on, it seems I can't move some (but not all) cells into some (but not all) empty sections. For example, if I have this layout : Section 1 apple banana Section 2 doberman Section 3 Section 4 Then I can move 'doberman' into any slot in section 1 (except after 'banana'), but I can't move it into section 3 or 4 at all. On the other hand, I can move 'apple' & 'banana' into section section 2 (except after 'doberman'), and I CAN move it into section 3, but NOT into section 4. What gives? this seems like buggy behavior. How do people work around it? Is apple aware of this bug?

Specifically I'm wondering where the put the script type declaration: <% content_for :javascript do %> <script type="text/javascript"> ... </script> <% end %> or <% content_for :javascript do %> ... <% end %> <script type="text/javascript"> <%= yield :javascript %> </script> <% end %> I am using the first option now and wondering if it is bad to include multiple ... declarations within one view. • ExtJS TabPanel content does not shrink in IE6

  I'm using ExtJS 3.2 and have content inside of a tab panel, and the tab panel inside of a container in a Viewport. The actual TabPanel resizes correctly on the viewport size changes, but the content inside a panel in the TabPanel seems to be a fixed width and will not shrink when the window is resized.The strange thing is it grows if I increase the window size. How can I get the content inside a Tabpanel to shrink on window resizing. Sorry for this being confusing, my structure is this: Viewport (rendered to body, and sets defaults {monitorResize:true}) - Text Label - TabPanel - Tab - Container (Border Layout) - Panel 1 (Center) - Panel 2 (East) - Panel 3 (South) Thanks in advance!

  Let's say I create a CMS that uses ExtJS. I want to avoid the license fee, so I open-source the CMS on github. Now let's imagine that I make your friend Dave a website that uses my CMS. I spend three hundred hours designing a logo and designing the layout. Can I charge a fee for this, and would I be obliged to open-source Dave's website too or is it enough to just open-source the CMS? I find this LPGL license a little confusing. Say hi to Dave for me.

• GUI Design - Roleselection with two lists, selected roles on the right, or left list?

  Hi, image two lists for selecting roles for a new user creation in an administrator frontend. One list has all available roles in it and another has the selected roles in it. Between those lists are buttons to move elements from one list to another. Thus the layout is horizontal with [List] [Buttons] [List]. Now to the question: Should the selected elements be on the left, or the right list? Intuitively some people I asked say, that the selected elements have to be on the right list. But some other people follow some sort of guideline that says, that the more important stuff in a frontend has to be on the left side. Also they think the selected elements are more important than the non-selected and so the selected ones have to be on the left side. Whats your opinion?

• Android Class which extends Dialog, how to clear TextViews before it is displayed

  I have a class that extends android.app.Dialog, the layout is done in an xml file, and the setup (button listeners, etc) is done on the onCreate method. My problem is that whenever the dialog is displayed, then dismissed, and displayed again, the Editable TextViews are still populated with the information that was displayed previously. What is the common way to clear these text fields? Remember - this is a separate class that extends Dialog - so there is no 'onDialogCreate' like Activity has. Or, perhaps I am extending the wrong class? There is just a lot of processing being done, and do not want to have all the code in the main Activity. I would like it to be in a separate Class. I tried to extend AlertDialog, but it does not create the border like Dialog does. Any help would be great. • Internet Explorer generates extra br

  I have an issue where Internet Explorer is generating an additional br element that is not in my source. The additional br effects the page's layout and is visible when using the developer tool. I've tried removing all hard returns between the surrounding elements but the additional br persists. Firefox and Chrome do not have this issue. Ideas on what I can do to fix the issue? • How to find good looking font color if background color is known?

  There seem to be so many color wheel, color picker, and color matcher web apps out there, where you give one color and the they'll find a couple of other colors that will create a harmonic layout when being used in combination. However most of them focus on background colors only and any text printed on each background color (if text is printed at all in the preview) is either black or white. My problem is different. I know the background color I want to use for a text area. What I need help with is choosing a couple of colors (the more, the merrier) I can use as font colors on this background. Most important is that the color will make sure the font is readable (contrast not being too low, also maybe not being too high to avoid that eyes are stressed) and of course that the combination of foreground and background just looks good. Anyone being aware of such an application? I'd prefer a web application to anything I have to download. Thanks.

According to leiningens sample project.clj ;; Dependencies are listed as [group-id/name version]; in addition ;; to keywords supported by Pomegranate, you can use :native-prefix ;; to specify a prefix. This prefix is used to extract natives in ;; jars that don't adhere to the default "<os>/<arch>/" layout that ;; Leiningen expects. Question 1: What does that mean?   I'm struggling to find a query which will return members who aren't friends of a certain member. Here is the layout of my tables: member_login: MemberID, email, password member_info: memberID, first_name, last_name member_friends: friendID, req_member, req_date, app_member, app_date, date_deactivated I tried to use NOT IN to run a query that would return the opposite of friends but nothing I try seems to be working.   Hi everyone, I'm new to SQL Server reporting services, and am trying to decipher an existing report. It's nothing too bad, but I notice it does have two report datasets defined. (They are generated via separate stored procedures) I'm trying to figure out where and how the report datasets are linked together so the Fields collection has both sets of columns available and the report has a single rowset to traverse. Is there a section in the report layout where a joining of datasets is defined? I'm using Visual Studio 2005 to design and preview the report fwiw. Thanks for your help!

• How do you handle very old browsers on your site?

  Hi. We have a non-profit web site that got about 5 million hits in May. Of those, about 5,700 were from IE 5.x or lower; about 4,000 were from folks with Netscape 4.x or lower. We know that the current site's layout works for newer browsers and we're testing it on IE6 as well (along with Chrome, Opera, Safari, and Firefox). How do you handle the folks with the older browsers? Because of jQuery libraries and such, the pages might not function correctly on those old browsers. Is there an easy way to show a text-only version on browsers that can't handle the CSS and jQuery goodies? How do large sites handle this sort of thing? I've used the @embed to hide the stylesheet from Netscape 4.x, but not sure beyond that.

What i learned from my limited experience is : jsf : 1, don't know. 2, 3 ok. 4 not ok (at least not without huge effort) wicket : 1, not really. 2, 3 and 4 ok. gwt : 1, don't know. 2, 3 ok. 4 not ok (but more ok than jsf) others : not really "web 2.0" or not really known I'm really junior, so my ideas about those frameworks are probably wrong, that's why i come to you, stackoverflowees. • What do the square brackets in LaTeX logs mean?

  I'm currently working on a parser that reads complete LaTeX logs. Most of the log format is, though weird, easy to figure out, but these square brackets are puzzling me. Here's an example from near the end of one of my logs: Overfull \hbox (10.88788pt too wide) in paragraph at lines 40--40 []$[]$ [] [102]) [103] Kapitel 14. (./Thermo-141-GrenzenFundamentalpostulat.tex [104 ]) (./Thermo-142-Mastergleichung.tex [105]) (./Thermo-143-HTheorem.tex [106pdfTeX warning (ext4): destination with the same identifier (name{equation.14.3.3}) ha s been already used, duplicate ignored Can anybody give me a hint what these square brackets mean? I can't see any structure in them. I have the suspicion that lines 2/3 above are some kind of ASCII art representing the box layout, though I know too less about badboxes to justify this or identify the meaning of the single characters. Then, the "[104" etc. seem to correspond to the page numbers, but I am still not seeing the reason why there is sometimes something inbetween the square brackets (like the pdfTeX warning above), and sometimes not.

• [Java/Android] Multidimensional array to ListView.. how?

  I have a query result set which I like to edit first and then put it to my ListView. Without editing my data first, I could use SimpleCursorAdapter like that: ListAdapter adapter = new SimpleCursorAdapter( this, R.layout.list_item, mCursor, new String[] { "address", "city" }, new int[] { R.id.address, R.id.zip_city }); this.setListAdapter(adapter); But now, I put everything in a multidimensional array like that: if(mCursor.isFirst()) { //create a new array String[][] listData = new String[mCursor.getCount()][3]; int i = 0; do { listData[i] = new String[] { mCursor.getString(mCursor.getColumnIndex("address")), mCursor.getString(mCursor.getColumnIndex("zip")) + " " + mCursor.getString(mCursor.getColumnIndex("city")), calculateDistance(Double.parseDouble(mCursor.getString(mCursor.getColumnIndex("diff")))) }; i++; } while(mCursor.moveToNext()); } So my problem is now, I have no idea how to put this to my ListView. Could someone help me here? Sorry for my bad english and Java knowledge. :)
