• 2nd instance of mysql closes/doesnt start no warnings/errors?

  I have an external HD and i'd like to run a 2nd mysql instance on it. I used the windows installer to install/configure mysqld as a service on windows7. I took the my.ini from C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\my.ini Then edited the port (client and mysqld), datadir and innodb_data_home_dir. After running this command "C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\bin\mysqld" --defaults-file="f:/dev/my.ini" I found an error which was all about the innodb_data_home_dir directory not existing. After that I ran the command again. Mysqld simply starts up for a second then immediately closes. I see no message in my command prompt. I know this command line args are correct as i see the mysqld service using the same one except a different my.ini path. Also it did tell me about the directory not existing so i know it is reading the new ini file. How do i figure out why this 2nd instance of mysqld is closing? How do i get 2 instance running? I'm using v 5.5

• IIS 7.5 Siteminder is not protecting ASP.net MVC requests

  We are trying to use ASP.Net MVC with Siteminder for Single Sign on. This is on Windows Server 2008 R2 with IIS 7.5. Siteminder Agent version 6QMR6. Problem : Siteminder protects physical files that are exist. And it is not protecting the folder when we try to access a non existed file. It must redirect to login page even if the file doesn't exist when the user is accessing a protected folder. How to configure in IIS 7.5 that Do not verify a file exist, before authentication by siteminder. SiteMinderWebAgent is a Handler(WildCard Script Map) we created using the ISAPI6WebAgent.dll How to Protect ASP.Net MVC Request with Siteminder? (Added this as My previous question did not solve the problem). MVC Request shows up in IIS Log but not in Siteminder log. Update : Microsoft Support says currently IIS7.5, even in earlier versions doesnt support wildcard mappings on any two Isapi Handlers with * wild card. Currently in my case Siteminder has * wildcard and asp.net mvc (handler is aspnet_isapi) has * wildcard to handle the reqeusts. Ordered priority doesnt work in the wild card mappings case with Just *. Did not convinced with the answer but will wait till tomorrow for them to get back.

  I have a windows server 2008R2 running hyper-v. I have downloaded the Windows Server 2012RC DC Version from here... http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/dn205286.aspx I am "forced" to install a download app that copy's a .vhd file to my chosen directory. The instructions on this page... http://technet.microsoft.com/library/dn303418.aspx say... To install the VHD Download the VHD file. Start Hyper-V Manager. On the Action menu, select Import Virtual Machine. Navigate to the directory that the virtual machine file was extracted to and select the directory (not the directory where the VHD file is located). Select the Copy the virtual machine option. Confirm that the import was successful by checking Hyper-V Manager. Configure the network adapter for the resulting virtual machine: right-click the virtual machine and select Settings. In the left pane, click Network Adapter. In the menu that appears, select one of the network adapters of the virtualization server, and then click OK. Start the virtual machine. Where it says "Navigate to the directory that the virtual machine file was extracted to and select the directory (not the directory where the VHD file is located). Select the Copy the virtual machine option." Well nothing has been extracted as far as I can tell? and if it has, I have no idea where or what im looking for? I tried creating a new VM and using the downloaded .vhd file but I got an error saying that the .vhd file is an incompatible format. Can anybody help me out please? Thanks, Paul

• Switching from prefork MPM to worker MPM + php-fpm on ubuntu

• Viability of Apache (MPM Worker), FastCGI PHP 4/5.2/5.3, and MySQL 5

  My server will be hosting numerous PHP web applications ranging from Joomla, Drupal, and some legacy (read: PHP4) and other custom-built code inherited from clients. This will be a development machine used by a dozen or so web developers and issues like fluctuating loads or particularly high load expectations are not important. Now, my question: are there any concerns I should know about when using Apache w/ MPM Worker, PHP 4/PHP 5.2/PHP 5.3 (all via FastCGI), and MySQL 5 (with a query cache of 64MB)? I have not tested the various applications extensively and I have only recently learned how to install PHP and utilize it via FastCGI (rather than mod_php, which in this case seemed impossible (considering the multiple versions of PHP and the desire to use MPM Worker over MPM Prefork)). I have come to understand that there could be concerns regarding XCache and APC, namely non-thread-safety issues where data becomes corrupted and the capability to use MPM Worker becomes null and void. Is this a valid concern? I have been using my personal testing server (running Ubuntu Server Edition 10.04 in VirtualBox) which has 2GB of RAM available to it. • Multiple Internet connections, multiple networks and split access in Linux

  I am having trouble setting up multiple internet connections for split access in Linux. We have 3 internet connections from 3 different ISP's. We want to configure our Linux gateway machine such that our three internal networks 10.2.1.0/24, 192.168.20.0/24 & 192.168.2.0/24 use ISP1, ISP2 and ISP3 respectively in a split access manner. Outlined below is the layout/settings, Interfaces of the Linux Gateway connected to Routers: eth0: 10.1.1.2<---------->10.1.1.1(Internal Interface of ADSL Router)[ISP1] eth1: 192.168.15.2<------>192.168.15.1(Internal Interface of 3G Router)[ISP2] eth3: 192.168.1.2<------->192.168.1.1(Internal Interface of ADSL Router)[ISP3] Kindly note that none of the interfaces in the Linux gateway has a public static IP address. Routers of ISP1 and ISP2 get assigned a dynamic public IP address when connected to the Internet, router of ISP3 has been assigned a public static IP address. Interface of Linux gateway connected to a switch, eth4: 10.2.1.1(LAN Interface for ISP1) eth4:0 192.168.20.1(LAN interface for ISP2) eth4:1 192.168.2.1(LAN Interface for ISP3) eth4:0 & eth4:1 are virtual interfaces with eth4 being the interface connected physically. • Internet Connection not working - USB LAN connection - from particular modem

  I am trying to fix Internet connection on a friends Dell inspiron 1720 with XP service pack 3. It has an integrated network card that stopped working, after powering down/up the modem still didnt work I brought it back to my place to try a few things ie check cable, update driver etc... still didnt work. So I bought a USB LAN connector. It didnt work straight away but I went to configure the properties and changed the ConnectionType from AutoSense to 100 BaseT 10BaseT Full_Duplex, I basically just tried them all. From my place when connected to my desktop - 10 BaseT and 10BaseT Full_Duplex worked. From my place When connected to their laptop - 10 BaseT and 10BaseT Full_Duplex worked. Happy I went back to my friends house confident it would all work, and it didnt. Brought it back to mine and it did. While there, in Network Connections the connection is there recognized, enabled, 'working properly' it just says not connected. Also there is no led on the USB connector While at mine as above except there is an led on the USB connector and it says connected. Other difference I can think of is they have a cable modem, I'm plugged into the back of a Belkin wireless router - would this make a difference? Any other ideas what to try? (Would getting the model of the cable modem help anyone?) The USB connector is "DM9601 USB to Fast Ethernet"

• CouchDB Errors: "undefined symbol: js_fgets" on Ubuntu 10.04

  Hello, ServerFault Community. I have been wrestling with this problem for weeks without resolution and was hoping that someone here might be able to help. As indicated above, this is in Ubuntu 10.04 (x86) using CouchDB 0.11.0. I have build and installed CouchDB 0.11.0 from source. Everything with the dependencies and with the CouchDB install itself 'goes off without a hitch' - no errors or complaints in the configure, make or install... CouchDB seems to be running 'fine'. I can access Futon without issue and utilize all CouchDB functionality found in Futon... Unfortunately, when I attempt to use any shows/views for an installed Couch App, I get the above js_fgets error before terminal (and the Couch log) fills up with TONS of JSON. Nothing ever renders in the browser, though Firebugs reports. I have used the official instructions (paying special attention to the 10.04 instructions) and have followed pretty much every Google thread that I can find on similar issues. I have chase SpiderMonkey (and Rhino) as well as Erlang as the culprit, but despite reinstalls and tests with these components, I still cannot get past this CouchDB issue on my system... Ideas? Pointers? Suggestions? Has anyone successfully installed and used CouchDB 0.11.0 on an Ubuntu 10.04 system to RUN APPLICATIONS? I have come across multiple individuals who immediately respond 'yes, I have it installed - it works great' only to have them realize in the end (as I did) that just because Futon thinks things are working, doesn't mean CouchDB is properly handling ALL requests. • How do you setup FTP with IIS Manager Users in an NLB environment with shared IIS configs?

  I've setup a 2 node NLB cluster and used the following to share IIS configs between them. http://blogs.technet.com/b/meamcs/archive/2012/05/30/configuring-iis-7-5-shared-configuration.aspx The IIS configs and content is located on a network share via a UNC path. This works - updating IIS settings on one node, is visible in another node and my website works on the individual nodes and the cluster as whole. I'm able to setup an FTP site and successfully connect with my Windows login. However, I want to use IIS Manager Authentication as defined in: http://www.iis.net/learn/publish/using-the-ftp-service/configure-ftp-with-iis-manager-authentication-in-iis-7 I've tried using "Network Service" with the FTP COM object as well as a dedicated user account that exists on all three hosts, but every time I try to login with an IIS user I get something like the following: IISWMSVC_AUTHENTICATION_UNABLE_TO_READ_CONFIG An unexpected error occurred while retrieving the authentication information. • Windows Home Server installation fails because it can't find the DVD drive anymore

  I've got an old Dell Dimension 8300 desktop I decided to convert into a WHS box. I popped in a pair of 1 TB SATA drives, which were recognized fine by the BIOS and the currently installed OS (XP), so I decided to go ahead and install WHS. Near the end of the installation, WHS acts like it can no longer find the DVD drives (either of them, the box has a DVDROM and a DVDRW). The specific error is gives is the "Can't configure storage" error. I've found several forums where people say they get this error if they remove the boot DVD during the installation (at the time of the first reboot). However, I never removed the DVD. After the error, if fails into WHS, so it did mostly install and I can work with WHS. However, it refuses to recognize the network card, video card and while it shows the two DVD drives, any CD/DVD I insert in either drive the system says is corrupted and unreadable, even though none of them are. I've tried several reinstalls both removing and not removing the DVD, but the result is the same regardless. Any other tricks anyone found? If I can't figure this out, maybe I'll just install SBS2008 and fake it up to be similar to WHS with some addin tools. Shouldn't be too hard to create something since WHS is based on SBS2003 anyway.

• Adding a Second Wireless Router to an Existing Wired Network

I started out with the basic instructions from the highest-voted answer at http://serverfault.com/questions/41572/adding-a-second-wireless-router-to-my-network The new Wireless router in question is a Linksys Wireless-N Gigabit Router, Model # WRT310N Here are the steps I've taken in setting it up: Plug my laptop into LAN port #2 in the new router. Nothing else is connected at this point Configure the new router to be 192.168.1.200 (the original router is 192.168.1.1, and its DHCP clients are from 192.168.1.100-x.x.x.199) Set the internet connection on the new router to "DHCP Client" Turn off the DHCP server & NAT routing on the new router Plug in a LAN cable from the original router into the LAN port #1 on the new router (NOT the WAN port, nothing is plugged in there) Reset the new router Afterwards, I try to ping 192.168.1.1 from the laptop plugged into LAN port #2 on the new router, with no response. 192.168.1.200 garners no response either. Typing "ipconfig" tells me: Autoconfiguration IP Address: 169.254.198.113 Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0 Default Gateway: 169.254.198.113 What's going wrong? I appreciate any help!

• Trouble with IIS SMTP relaying to Gmail

  I appreciate that similar questions have been asked about how to setup SMTP relaying with IIS's virtual SMTP server. However I'm still completely stumped on this problem. Here's the setup: IIS 6.0 SMTP server running on Win2k3 box with a NAT'ed IP. Company uses Gmail for all email services. An app on the box needs to send email, so normally we'd just set the app up to talk to smtp.gmail.com directly, but this app doesn't support TLS. Easy, we just setup a local SMTP relay right? So I thought. What we have done so far: Setup IIS SMTP server to relay to smtp.gmail.com, as per these excellent instructions: http://fmuntean.wordpress.com/2008/10/26/how-to-configure-iis-smtp-server-to-forward-emails-using-a-gmail-account/ The local SMTP relay allows anonymous access. Both the local IP and the loopback IP have been explicitly allowed in the Connection and Relay dialogs. Tried sending email from 2 different apps via the local SMTP server, but failed (the emails end up in the Queue folder, but never get sent). The IIS logs show the conversation with the local app, but zero conversation happening with smtp.gmail.com. The port used by gmail is open outbound, and indeed the apps we have that support TLS can send email directly via smtp.gmail.com, so there is no problem with the network. At this point I changed the smtp settings in IIS SMTP server to use a different external SMTP server and hey-presto, the local apps can send email via local IIS SMTP relay. So smtp.gmail.com fails to work with our IIS SMTP relay, but another 3rd party SMTP service works fine. We need to use smtp.gmail.com, so how to troubleshoot this one?

• How to remap IPs visible from local machine to IPs visible from a machine I have SSH access to?

  I'm so far out of my depth I don't even know what to google for. There's a server I can connect to via SSH. Via that server I can access other server on its subnet via SSH. What I want to do is be able to access the machines that server has access to directly. Say the server IP is 192.168.7.7 and is the only one in the 192.168.x.x range I have access to. I'd like to configure things in such a way that when I to access say 192.168.7.100 on my machine, the connection will go through an SSH tunnel I open to 192.168.7.7 and out to 192.168.7.100. I would like this to work for any port if at all possible. I know I can set an HTTP proxy and even a SOCKS proxy, but I'm wondering is there is a way to actually remap some of the IP my machine sees to IP only visible from the remote machine. What would this configuration be called? IS this NAT, VPN, IP2IP or something else? How can I set up this on a Windows client box that connects via SSH to a Linux box? Sounds to me like I need to set up some kind of filtering on the network driver or possibly a virtual NIC, but I'm not sure where to go next.

• vDS - vCenter Problem

  We are implementing a vSphere farm and are using a distrubuted switch. The VC is a VM within the farm connected to the distrubuted switch. We had a SAN issue and all of our VMs were down. When the SAN recovered and we restarted the ESX host containing the VC the VC couldn't connect to the network through the vDS. We had to remove a NIC from the vDS on that host and create a regular vswitch and then connect the VC to that before the VC would connect to the network. Is this typical behavior? If the VC goes down does all vDS networking stop on all the hosts? That seems to be a very bad thing. I thought networking would work even though the VC is down because the hosts have the vDS configuration cached. Is there a better way to configure it to prevent this from happening. We want to keep the VC as a VM for HA and recoverabilty purposes. Can anyone offer suggestions or explanations? I appreciate the help. Thanks, Rick

• debian VM refusing all traffic apart from http

  I've got a VM with a fresh install of Debian (wheezy) and I've installed node and mongo on it. The VM is using a bridged network connection so I was expecting to be able to point my host machines browser at the ip address of the Debian VM (port 1337 for my node example or port 28017 for my mongo status page) and see one of the two services (node or mongo). My requests are refused though. As far as I can tell Debian allows all traffic by default and you have to manually configure iptables to drop traffic. I've checked iptables and it says it's setup to allow anything through. It looks like this: root@devbox:/home/jlewis# iptables -L Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination As a test I setup nginx and I was able to get to the nginx landing page from my host no problems so obviously http traffic is allowed. I then set nginx up to forward all traffic upstream to mongo - no problems there, I was able to see the status page. I then did the same for my example node server and again, no problems. So http traffic is fine, but all other traffic is blocked. Anyone know why debian might be refusing all other traffic other than iptables being setup to drop it? • Ruby Passeger + Nginx or lighthttpi + fgci for shared hosting

  I have set up a passenger + nginx setup and I plan to offer a free non-commercial hosting (or in fact on the fly deployment) for rack-based frameworks (e.g. camping, sinatra). I am facing an "issue" with passenger. For each application you need to configure nginx.conf (it would be the same with apache so it is not an nginx issue) with: server { ... passenger_base_uri /app1; passenger_base_uri /app2; passenger_base_uri /app3; } Now this is not inherently bad as, in theory, I could allow a user to run just one app on his webspace but even in this case I need to create a new server directory on nginx e.g. (user.domain.com). As this will mainly be used to deploy apps the behavior I am looking at is more the possibility to auto map several apps (e.g. app1, app2, app3, app4) under the same server (your app.com/app1 yourapp.com/app2) without having to update the nginx or apache file each time. This seems to be a limitation in passenger. As such I am thinking about an alternative with lighttpd and fastcgi. Would this allow immediate deployment without touching the lighttpd config file e.g. I create a new directory with app2 and it will run immediately ? What is your experience in performance difference between passenger + nginx vs. lighttpd + fastcgi ? thanks in advance scenario details: on nginx + passenger - user cannot add a new sub-folder and run another sinatra/camping app without declaring the path on nginx.conf and restarting the server; wished behavior with the new setup: - user can add a new folder with a new app and it would run on lighttpd+fcgi without any extra configuration of the web server;

• Accounting setup in freeradius with mikrotik and the "always" module

  I have a freeradius setup that is being used to provide authentication for users on a wireless network. The access points are all Mikrotik hardware and the users are connected 24/7. We've been using Daloradius with mysql and freeradius 2. The boss wants to use the accounting information and while this is all set up and appears to be working, I've found that not all the accounting information is present. Since our users may be connected for more than 24 hours at a time we keep this in here, it will reset some attributes daily so that the accounting packets work correctly. So he started poking around at this link: http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/RouterOs_MySql_Freeradius#Configuring_RouterOs_for_Radius_.26_PPP.2A_AAA And was looking specifically at the following section. Since our users may be connected for more than 24 hours at a time we keep this in here, it will reset some attributes daily so that the accounting packets work correctly always fail { rcode = fail } always reject { rcode = reject } always ok { rcode = ok simulcount = 0 mpp = no } However, that link references freeradius 1 and I can't find this in the radius.conf file for freeradius 2. What does it do and could it be a reason I'm missing data? EDIT: I have found one issue. We have a backup freeradius server that is also receiving the accounting packets. Although they are replicating, it's only a master/slave configuration. If the slave receives accounting packets it won't replicate them back to the master. Although I suspect this might solve it, the boss is not convinced due to the always module. Is there anything special I need to configure in the mikrotik AP's or freeradius 2 for clients connected 24/7.

• No LPT port in Windows 7 virtual machines

  Windows 7 has MS virtual PC integrated, the VM settings don't give a parallel LPT port mapping to the physical machine. Where did it go? Has anyone else noticed this, and found a solution? Update: After much digging, I found the one and only reference to this issue, on the VPC Blog: "Parallel port devices are not supported, as they are relatively rare today." -More details- It's a XP VM I've been using since VPC 2007 days, which did have this functionality. This is to configure barcode printers via the LPT port. Since the (new) MS VM can't map to my physical LPT port, I'm having a hard time configuring printers. My physical ports are enabled in the BIOS. It has worked the past 3 years, before switching to Win 7. Any help is appreciated. • How can I tell SELinux to give vsftpd write access in a specific directory?

  Hello. I've set up vsftpd on my Fedora 12 server, and I'd like to have the following configuration. Each user should have access to: his home directory (/home/USER); the web directory I created for him (/web/USER). To achieve this, I first configured vsftpd to chroot each user to his home directory. Then, I created /web/USER with the correct permissions, and used mount --bind /web/USER /home/USER/Web so that the user may have access to /web/USER through /home/USER/Web. I also turned on the SELinux boolean ftp_home_dir so that vsftpd is allowed to write in users' home directories. This works very well, except that when a user tries to upload or rename a file in /home/USER/Web, SELinux forbids it because the change must also be done to /web/USER, and SELinux doesn't give vsftpd permission to write anything to that directory. I know that I could solve the problem by turning on the SELinux boolean allow_ftpd_full_access, or ftpd_disable_trans. I also tried to use audit2allow to generate a policy, but what it does is generate a policy that gives ftpd write access to directories of type public_content_t; this is equivalent to turning on allow_ftpd_full_access, if I understood it correctly. I'd like to know if it's possible to configure SELinux to allow FTP write access to the specific directory /web/USER and its contents, instead of disabling SELinux's FTP controls entirely.

• Fix for php 5.3.9 libxsl security "bug" fix

  just this morning i updated my debian server to php 5.3.9 , change log (last item in list) has a fix for this bug and now when running any hosted site using XSL transforms i get: Warning: XSLTProcessor::transformToXml(): Can't set libxslt security properties, not doing transformation for security reasons I'm not using any <sax:output> tags in my xslt at all. Does anybody have any information on this, current chatter about it is thin, so i'm i little lost. Using the suggestion about switching ini settings on and off either side of -transformToXml(): ini_set("xsl.security_prefs", XSL_SECPREFS_NONE) or $xsl->setSecurityPreferences(XSL_SECPREFS_NONE) brings me back to the same error Many thanks. Progress: - Upgrading libxml and recompiling libxslt against the new version was a good suggestion, though has not fixed the issue. - Compiling the latest php5.3 snapshot does not fix the issue. Solution: I'm unsure what actually solved this, very sorry for anyone else having the same problem. firstly i upgraded libxml, then applied a few patches, then went into php source for the xsl parser and added some debugging and a few tweaks, after a few compiles getting the configure args right the error went away and wasn't reproducible. I would definitely recommend upgrading libxml as Petr suggested below and then grabbing the latest snapshot from php.net.

• Subversion Edge LDAP (require CAC Certificate not Username and Password)

  What I've Done: I've successfully installed and configured Subversion Edge 3.1.2 with LDAP support on a Windows 2008 server. I have configured LDAP users and am able to use LDAP credentials to work on repositories just fine. No issues whatsoever. Works great! What I Want To Do: I've been searching for several hours now in hopes to find some information on how to configure Subversion Edge server to require client certificates for user authentication against an LDAP environment. I have not found anything yet that gives me an indication of how to do it. I know there are SVN clients that are capable of prompting for CAC certificates but I cannot figure out how to set my server up to require it. NOTE: CAC authentication is already setup and working in the windows environment. Desired Outcome: When running svn commands that require authentication against my Subversion Edge Server I want it to prompt me for my CAC certificate instead of my Active Directory username and password. If anyone has any information on this I'd greatly appreciate it. EDIT: I'm still digging so if I find out anything I'll update this question with what I found.

• How do I make ESXi 5.0 to shutdown virtual machines when the physical power button is pushed?

  I have a home NAS/DLNA server built out of an HP Micro Server with the HP branded VMware ESXi 5.0.0 build-623860 (free license) installed. Being a home media center I'd like it to be "manageable" by all my household members. This requires that it needs to be powered on an off (including all the VMs inside) by anybody with the physical access to the server by simply pressing the power button on the chassis. The "startup" part is easy to obtain - all I had to do was to configure the startup/shutdown policy: Once the server powers up, all VMs start as well and that's exactly what I need. Well.. it did work up until 5.0.0U1, but that's a different story: http://blogs.vmware.com/vsphere/2012/03/free-esxi-hypervisor-auto-start-breaks-with-50-update-1.html Unfortunately, pressing the power button doesn't gracefully shutdown the guest machines - they are terminated instead. If I run the "shut down" command from the vSphere Client interface guests are powered off. I'd like to get the same end result when the physical power button is switched. I've poked around a bit on the ESXi server. There's a "/sbin/shutdown.sh" script that seemed to do exactly what I need... but after trying it does exactly what the power off button. The "/etc/inittab" contains an entry for the "shutdown" level but I suppose it's not hooked to the power button. I can't find any acpi related configuration, neither do I know what exactly is executed when the power button is pressed. Does anybody have a clue how can I make the VMs shutdown automatically when the physical power switch is pressed to turn of the computer?
