  • dynamic access magic constants in php

    - by Radu
    Hello, Is there a way to shortcut this: function a($where){ echo $where; } function b(){ a(basename(__FILE__).'::'.__FUNCTION__.'()::'.__LINE__); } to something like this: define("__myLocation__", ''.basename(__FILE__).'::'.__FUNCTION__.'()::'.__LINE__.''); function a($where){ echo $where; } function b(){ a(__mYLocation_); } I know that this cannot be done with constants (is just an theoretical example), but I can't find a way to shorthen my code. If a use a function to get my line it will get the line where that function is not the line from where the function was called. I usualy call a function that prints directly to the log file, but in my log I need to know from where the function was called, so i use basename(__FILE__).'::'.__FUNCTION__.'()::'.__LINE__ this will print something like: index.php::b()::6 It is a lot of code when you have over 500 functions in different files. Is there a shorten or better way to do this? Thank you.

  • What is the best way to organize Java code since you can't pass by reference?

    - by Adam
    I'm learning how to code in Java after after coming from C. In C I always separated everything into individual functions to make the code easier to follow and edit. I was trying to do this in java but now since I realized that you can't use pointers, I am a bit confused as to what the best way to do this is. So for example I want to have a method that creates four alerts for me. So I pass it an alert builder that can then create the alerts. I can return them in an array, but in my code I already have the alerts individually named, and I would like to keep it that way so I wouldn't need to refer to them as alert[1], alert[2]... etc. So that means I would have to rename them, which would add additional code which would probably be longer than the code in the actual method! Am I thinking about this the right way? Is there anything I can do?

  • PHP Global variable in class is reset

    - by Robert
    I have a web form that manipulates records in a MySQL database. I have a method for displaying an edit interface for both creating new records and editing them if ($_POST['new_page']) { print "<h2>Create new page</h2>\n"; $isNew=1; $this->EditForm(); } else if($_POST['edit']){ print "<h2>Edit page</h2>\n"; $isNew=0; $this->EditForm(); } I am trying to use the global variable $isNew to determine where a record is to be added or updated. However, whenever my SaveChanges() function is run, $isNew is always 0. $isNew is declared immediately after the class declaration, outside all of the functions. class Editor{ public $isNew;

  • How often do you implement the big three?

    - by Neil Butterworth
    I was just musing about the number of questions here that either are about the "big three" (copy constructor, assignment operator and destructor) or about problems caused by them not being implemented correctly, when it occurred to me that I could not remember the last time I had implemented them myself. A swift grep on my two most active projects indicate that I implement all three in only one class out of about 150. That's not to say I don't implement/declare one or more of them - obviously base classes need a virtual destructor, and a large number of my classes forbid copying using the private copy ctor & assignment op idiom. But fully implemented, there is this single lonely class, which does some reference counting. So I was wondering am I unusual in this? How often do you implement all three of these functions? Is there any pattern to the classes where you do implement them?

  • Is there a way to refactor this javascript/jquery?

    switch (options.effect) { case 'h-blinds-fadein': $('.child').each(function (i) { $(this).stop().css({opacity:0}).delay(100 * i).animate({ 'opacity': 1 }, { duration: options.speed, complete: (i !== r * c - 1) || function () { $(this).parent().replaceWith(prev); options.cp.bind('click',{effect: options.effect},options.ch); } }); }); break; case 'h-blinds-fadein-reverse': $('.child').each(function (i) { $(this).stop().css({opacity:0}).delay(100 * (r * c - i)).animate({ 'opacity': 1 }, { duration: options.speed, complete: (i !== 0) || function () { $(this).parent().replaceWith(prev); options.cp.bind('click',{effect: options.effect},options.ch); } }); }); break; ....more cases } I have alot of similiar other cases. One way i could think of is to write functions ? i'm not sure i'm still fairly new to the language

  • How to maintain fixed size of C variable types over different machines?

    - by Alex
    I've all this kind of functions. ssize_t fuc1(int var1, void *buf, size_t count); int func2(char *charPtr, int mode, int dev); short func3( long var2); problem is that data types in C has different sizes when compiled on different machines(64bit & 32bit). This is true for even void*. For some reasons. I need to ensure that these sizes all are same on every machine(64bit & 32bit). So, how should I modify these ?

  • Creating dynamic dictionary

    - by Syom
    i must create something like dictionary in my site, but there is one problem, i don't imagine ho to solve. the client wants the following: in the CMS he must be able to write some specification to some words or even sentences, and after it, in the site, onmouseover() of that words, i must show it's specification in popup window. for example, in the cms he writes "hello word" - "specification of hello world", and then, in the site, if i have the text many many words here hello world and another words... onmouseover of "hello world" i must show "specification of hello world". the problem, that i don't know how to solve, is how to write the functions on the text content? could you give me an idea... Thanks

  • MS Access "#Name?" in unbound field on SOME machines

    - by alkorya
    I have a datasheet form bound to table. I added 2 unbound fields and set their Control Source properties to user defined VBA functions: 1. ConcatRelated (http://allenbrowne.com/func-concat.html) 2. Custom function that returns a string: Public Function GetLowestSatatus(LookupField As String, JSAID As Integer) As String On Error Resume Next GetLowestSatatus = DLookup(LookupField, "JsaStatuses", "ID=" & DMin("StatusID", "Tasks", "JSAID =" & JSAID)) End Function It works fine on my and some other machines but there are machines I got "#Name?" in these 2 unbound fields. All machines configured identically. Any ideas? Thank you!

  • Visual Studio 2010 element names for theming

    - by Anthony Potts
    I am trying to figure out what the element name for the tooltip is in Visual studio so that I can change the style using the extension found here. Anyone know what that is? I am using the default theme which seems to have a white to light grey gradient on it. This is less than optimal since the text for the functions are also white. In a more general question (and perhaps better), is there anything that maps the names as they are found in the theme to where they are in the IDE.

  • RewriteRule - Doesn't work on live site - subfolder to new domain

    - by eb_Dev
    I have the following rule on my local dev site and it works fine: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^localhost$ RewriteRule ^subdomains/example.com(.*) http://www.example.com$1 [R=301,L] However when I change it to: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.domain.com$ RewriteRule ^subdomains/example.com(.*) http://www.example.com$1 [R=301,L] and upload it to my live site it doesn't work, if i change the rule to: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.domain.com$ RewriteRule ^subdomains/(.*) http://www.example.com$1 [R=301,L] the rule functions as expected and directs an url beginning with www.domain.com/subdomains/ to www.example.com/. Does anyone know what is going on here? Thanks for you help.

  • MacOSX: OSAtomic vs OSAtomicBarrier

    - by anon
    For the functions here: #include <libkern/OSAtomic.h> there are OSAtomic and OSAtomicBarrier versions. However, the documentation does not show sample code for: When is it safe to use just OSAtomic, without the OSAtomicBarrier version When is it that OSAtomic would be unsafe, but OSAtomiBarrier would be safe. Can anyone provide explainations + sample codes? [Random ramblings of "your opinion" without actual code is useless. Readers: please down vote such answers; and vigrously upvote answers with actual code.] [C/C++ code preferred; Assembly okay too.]

  • Wordpress page linking

    - by danixd
    I am trying to implement WordPress into quite a large site with a complex page structure and struggling to get normal pages to work (not created through the admin) The pages are created, but when I link to them, nothing happens... The desired url - www.website.com/dir1/dir2/dir3/page.php The actual url- www.website.com/wp-content/themes/themename/dir1/dir2/dir3/page.php The problem with linking to the latter is that it breaks the WordPress functions I don't want to have to give every page a template, then add it through the admin, it is too much work. I only need 2 pages to contain dynamic content. Am I being silly? I am really confused.

  • Haskell - mapping the odd placed values and the even placed values differently

    - by Abstract
    Hey guys, is there an easy way. To take a list of numbers, say 123456. Then multiply the odd placed by three and the even placed by 1. i.e. (1 * 3) + (2 * 1) + (3 * 3) + (4*1) + (5*3) + (6*1) i was thinking the map function somewhere along the lines. But i don't know how to map *3 to just the odd placed values. Oh and if you could give me the version not in prelude that would be great like the actual function or functions, as if its being imported from an external haskell file Thanks for the help

  • How to deal with name/value pairs of function arguments in MATLAB

    - by Richie Cotton
    I have a function that takes optional arguments as name/value pairs. function example(varargin) % Lots of set up stuff vargs = varargin; nargs = length(vargs); names = vargs(1:2:nargs); values = vargs(2:2:nargs); validnames = {'foo', 'bar', 'baz'}; for name = names validatestring(name{:}, validnames); end % Do something ... foo = strmatch('foo', names); disp(values(foo)) end example('foo', 1:10, 'bar', 'qwerty') It seems that there is a lot of effort involved in extracting the appropriate values (and it still isn't particularly robust again badly specified inputs). Is there a better way of handling these name/value pairs? Are there any helper functions that come with MATLAB to assist?

  • Design pattern: polymorphisim for list of objects

    - by ziang
    Suppose I have a class A, and A1, A2 inherits from A. There are 2 functions: List<A1> getListA1(){...} List<A2> getListA2(){...} Now I want to do something similar to both A1 and A2 in another function public void process(List<A>){...} If I want to pass the instance of either ListA1 or ListA2, of course the types doesn't match because the compiler doesn't allow the coercion from List< A1 to List< A. I can't do something like this: List<A1> listA1 = getListA1(); List<A> newList = (List<A>)listA1; //this is not allowed. So what is the best approach to the process()? Is there any way to do it in a universal way rather than write the similar code to both List and List?

  • jQuery doesn't fire some events while I'm not logged in (Joomla)

    - by Andrew Sekaev
    So basically, .resize function fails until I log in. What does that mean? And how that can be fixed? Almost all other functions work fine. The site is still in developement, so no live version sadly. UPDATE: jQuery(window).resize(function() { var windowSize = jQuery(window).width() var windowWidth = (jQuery(window).width()-60)/6; var windowHeight = windowWidth/1.6; /*grid resize*/ jQuery('.xc-block').css({'width':windowWidth, 'height':windowHeight}); }); This is very simple script, cant really tell what can be wrong... Any thoughts guys? P.S:also no errors in FireBug...

  • Adapting methods which return true/false

    - by James P.
    What's the best practise when adapting C-style functions which return a true/false to Java? Here's a simple method to illustrate where the problem lies. public static boolean fileNameEndsWithExtension( String filename, String fileExtension) { return filename.endsWith( fileExtension ); } Note that there's probably a more elegant way of filtering files (feel free to comment on this). Anyway, if filename is a null value, does one: Return a false if filename is null? If so, how does one go about distinguishing between the case where filename is null and the case where the String or file name doesn't end with a given file extension? Change the return type to the wrapper class Boolean which allows a null value. Throw an Exception and force the programmer to make sure that a null value is never passed to the method? Use another solution?

  • An easy way to replace fread()'s with reading from a byte array?

    - by Sam Washburn
    I have a piece of code that needs to be run from a restricted environment that doesn't allow stdio (Flash's Alchemy compiler). The code uses standard fopen/fread functions and I need to convert it to read from a char* array. Any ideas on how to best approach this? Does a wrapper exist or some library that would help? Thanks! EDIT: I should also mention that it's reading in structs. Like this: fread(&myStruct, 1, sizeof(myStruct), f);

  • How to correctly hook and return GetDlgItemTextA from C++ to C# to C++ from EasyHook

    - by Gbps
    I'm using EasyHook, a C# library for injecting and detouring functions from unmanaged applications. I'm trying to hook onto GetDlgItemTextA, which takes the arguments: UINT WINAPI GetDlgItemText( __in HWND hDlg, __in int nIDDlgItem, __out LPTSTR lpString, __in int nMaxCount );` In my hook, I am casting it as: [DllImport("user32.dll", // CharSet = CharSet.Unicode, SetLastError = true, CallingConvention = CallingConvention.StdCall)] static extern uint GetDlgItemTextA(IntPtr hWin, int nIDDlgItem, StringBuilder text, int MaxCount); And my hook is: static uint DGetDlgItemText_Hooked(IntPtr hWin, int nIDDlgItem, StringBuilder text, int MaxCount) { // call original API... uint ret = GetDlgItemTextA(hWin, nIDDlgItem, text, MaxCount); MessageBox.Show(text.ToString()); return ret; } Unfortunately, the moment this is called, the hooked application crashes. Is there a better cast I can use to successfully hook onto this function? Thanks! I've compiled, editted, and confirmed the working condition of my EasyHook setup. This is just casing and hooking only.

  • What's the best way to call jQuery scripts, in HTML/PHP template, or seperate js file?

    - by j-man86
    StackOverflow is telling me this is a subjective question, but I think it's a matter of fact! I have a number of scripts that I'm using on different parts of my site. In terms of making fewer http requests, I know it's better to combine all of these scripts into one .js file. However, isn't a waste of time for a page to call a .js full of 10 or 15 different functions when it's only using one? The other method I am using is to use PHP conditional statements... <?php if( is_page() ) { > $(document).ready(function(){ ... }); <?php } ?> What's the best method or comination of these methods?

  • Using opencv in Win32 application for image show

    - by erjik
    Is it possible to output images so that they all will be inside a single window? Before, I used to output data using only opencv functions: cvNamedWindow("Image 1"); cvShowImage("Image 1", img); So I change image, then call: cvShowImage function and so on. But If I want to look at more than one image, then every new image needs its own window to be shown there And what I want is to put every such an output opencv's window inside one big main window. Is it possible to do it? And how?

  • R: how to make a unique set of names from a vector of strings?

    - by Mike Dewar
    Hi, I have a vector of strings. Check out my vector, it's awesome: > awesome [1] "a" "b" "c" "d" "d" "e" "f" "f" I'd like to make a new vector that is the same length as awesome but where, if necessary, the strings have been uniqueified. For example, a valid output of my desired function would be > awesome.uniqueified [1] "a" "b" "c" "d.1" "d.2" "e" "f.1" "f.2" Is there an easy, R-thonic and beautiful way to do this? I should say my list in real life (it's not called awesome) contains 25000ish mircoarray probeset identifiers. I'm always nervous when I embark on writing little generic functions (which I'm sure I could do) as I'm sure some R guru has come across this problem in the past, nailed it with some incredible algorithm that doesn't even have to store more than half an element in the vector. I'm just not sure what they might have called it. Probably not uniqueify.

  • 'is instanceof' Interface bad design

    - by peterRit
    Say I have a class A class A { Z source; } Now, the context tells me that 'Z' can be an instance of different classes (say, B and C) which doesn't share any common class in their inheritance tree. I guess the naive approach is to make 'Z' an Interface class, and make classes B and C implement it. But something still doesn't convince me because every time an instance of class A is used, I need to know the type of 'source'. So all finishes in multiple 'ifs' making 'is instanceof' which doesn't sound quite nice. Maybe in the future some other class implements Z, and having hardcoded 'ifs' of this type definitely could break something. The escence of the problem is that I cannot resolve the issue by adding functions to Z, because the work done in each instance type of Z is different. I hope someone can give me and advice, maybe about some useful design pattern. Thanks

  • Can't call method in model table class using Doctrine with Zend Framework

    - by Jeremy Hicks
    I'm using Doctrine with Zend Framework. For my model, I'm using a base class, the regular class (which extends the base class), and a table class. In my table class, I've created a method which does a query for records with a specific value for one of the fields in my model. When I try and call this method from my controller, I get an error message saying, "Message: Unknown method Doctrine_Table::getCreditPurchases". Is there something else I need to do to call functions in my table class? Here is my code: class Model_CreditTable extends Doctrine_Table { /** * Returns an instance of this class. * * @return object Model_CreditTable */ public static function getInstance() { return Doctrine_Core::getTable('Model_Credit'); } public function getCreditPurchases($id) { $q = $this->createQuery('c') ->where('c.buyer_id = ?', $id); return $q->fetchArray(); } } // And then in my controller method I have... $this->view->credits = Doctrine_Core::getTable('Model_Credit')->getCreditPurchases($ns->id);
