• How to remove geoclue-master?

  Looking in System Monitor I saw a process called geoclue-master. As far as I can tell, this reports my precise location to applications and the internet. This computer is sitting in the same office all the time so I have no need whatsoever for such a thing, and would rather have the memory and processor cycles that this unnecessary service uses up - however small - free for things that I do need and want. I could not find instructions for disabling and removing this service so I renamed the file, but then the calendar disappeared from the notification area. Is there a way to remove this service but leave the calendar? I'm using 11.10.

  Silverlight has a method called HtmlPage.PopupWindow() that opens new web browser window with a specific page. You can find this method in the namespace System.Windows.Browser. If you haven’t in your project, add a reference to System.Windows.Browser. • Is there a certain way that I have to include a library and it's license?

  I know this may be a dumb question, but I'm only 15 so I don't really know how the legal part of it works. When I choose a .dll to be included in my project, Visual Studio only includes the .dll file with my project (of course) so I just copy the license and stick it in a folder called licenses. But now, I'm going to be making a program for a contest so I need to make sure I have the licenses done right or I'll get disqualified. So is there any specific location I have to keep the licenses in my project, is there a way for Visual Studio to automatically copy the license the way it does with .dll files and is there anything else I have to watch out for legally? PS: If it matters the libraries I'm planning on using right now are WriteableBitmapEx and AvalonDock Thanks

• cursor jumps when moving (and some other times)

  i updated to 12.10 beta 1 when it was released (coming from 12.04 fresh install, i skipped the alpha releases of 12.10) since then i've done all the usual updates but ive had an issue with my cursor jumping. it does not jump when typing, i've done a lot of searching and cant find an answer, it tends to happen most when i move the cursor the jump is maybe 15-20 pixels down and to the right it seems like a display issue because if i hover over a link or the x to close a window the cursor will settle in it's down/right position, but the whatever im hovering over will still act as if that's where the mouse is, and clicking still works on the item. so the mouse is actually in its original location, but it's displaying offset and flickering back and forth from its down/right position and its correct position this makes use very difficult because the mouse is never displayed where it actually is and i have to estimate my clicks any ideas?

• Open file with java application [migrated]

  I am using Ubuntu. I would like to have a user be able to double-click (or whatever they have set to open a file) on the save file for a java game i'm making, and have the game start and automatically load the save. How could I make the game launch instead of opening the file, and then pass the save's file name or location as an argument? Would i have to have the game create a new mime type the first time it ran, or something similar, so that Ubuntu knows what to do with the save when the user tries to open it?

• World to Pixel Transformation

  My objects have a location in world coordinates (basically 1.0f is a meter). If I simply draw my objects using their world coordinates, each meter will correspond to a pixel. Obviously that's not what I want. Now, I don't want to have to apply a transformation to each and every object's position when I draw them. As I happen to be using XNA, and spritebatch allows a Matrix to be passed in as an argument in it's begin method, I was wondering if there is a way to pass the World to Pixel transformation in there. Any suggestions? So far Matrix.CreateScale(new Vector3(zoom, zoom, 1)) puts the objects in their proper spot, but it also scales up the sprites. Is there a way to transform the position without enlarging the sprite? Thanks

• How do I configure the default applications on the launcher on a LiveCD?

  How can one edit unity bar default apps within a livecd? In other words if you boot ubuntu 12.04 livecd you will see in the unity bar, firefox, libreoffice, Ubuntu software center, etc. Well I need to customize a 12.04 livecd so that upon boot you will see my own selected apps ie: chromium, ubuntu-tweak, etc. Please dont link me to remastersys or myunity or ubuntu-tweak or ccsm. No graphical applications to be used. The iso is being built via chroot meaning i need the actual file(s) location: /usr/share/unity-2d.....something along those lines.

  i have a site that has 3 web applications, lets use this example: example.com/nicy example.com/mash example.com/zoken The main application is nicy, so if the user comes for the first time (or if Google indexes my site) that will be the default choice. This is the code placed inside example.com/index.php <? header('HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently'); header('Location: http://example.com/nicy'); die(); ?> Is this solution SEO friendly for Google to index the nicy subdirectory as the main entrance page for the domain? (because of the 301 redirect). Thanks!

• Rythmbox library set to: multiple locations and no way to edit/change

  I previously set Rhythmbox to include a few different locations. Now following changes to my directory structure, I'd like to reflect these changes in Rhythmbox. But when I go to "Library Location", I see "Multiple locations Set" and I can only add to the list; no way to edit/remove. I Googled this problem and the only relevant results I get date back to 2006, probably referring to a previous version of Rhythmbox and specifying components/locations that I can't find on my system.   i have a list of users, with minions, something like this: User52: minion10 minion12 User32: minion13 minion11 i've been keeping in an array where the "location" is the id, like this: Users: [52]User minions: [10]minion [12]minion [32]User minions: [13]minion [11]minion so i can access them easily like this: user[UserID].minions[MinionID] (ex: user[32].minions[11]) but when i print it or send it by json i get something like this: {,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,minion,,,,,,,,,,,,,,minion} but should i keep using like this or should i change to something like this: User = function(){ this.minions = ...; this.getMinion = function(value){ for(var m in this.minions){ if(this.minions[m].id == value){ return this.minions[m]; break; } } } } and get it like this: user.getMinion(MinionID); Question: i get better performance using a "short" array but using loops every time i need a minion, or using "long" arrays, but no need for loop and getting values directly from the id "name"?

• Auto mount USB drive with permissions for all users

  I have an Ubuntu 14.04 based Media Center and I store the media files on a USB HDD. I add files to drive directly on a Mac so I have it formatted as FAT32. The problem is that after reconnecting the drive to the Ubuntu, it mounts at /media/user/drivename and only the root user is allowed access. I need several applications to have full access to this drive. I can change file permissions in the terminal but it doesn't change because of the /media/user location. I am able to manually sudo mount /dev/sdc1 /media/drivename & sudo chmod 777 /media/drivename but the mount point changes each time. Is there a way to make this drive always mount where root and other applications have access?

• What's New in SGD 5.1?

  Oracle announced the latest version of Secure Global Desktop (SGD) this week with 3 major themes: Support for Android devices; Support for Desktop Chrome clients;  Support for Oracle Unified Directory. I'll talk about the new features in a moment, but a bit of context first: Oracle SGD - what, how and why?  Oracle Secure Global Desktop is Oracle's secure remote access product which allows users on almost any device, to access almost any type application which  is hosted in the data center, from almost any location. And it does this by sitting on the edge of the datacenter, between the user and the applications: This is actually a really smart environment for an increasing number of use cases where: Users need mobility of location AND device (i.e. work from anywhere); IT needs to ensure security of applications and data (of course!) The application requires an end-user environment which can't be guaranteed and IT may not own the client platform (e.g. BYOD, working from home, partners or contractors). Oracle has a a specific interest in this of course. As the leading supplier of enterprise applications, many of Oracle's customers, and indeed Oracle itself, fit these criteria. So, as an IT guy rolling out an application to your employees, if one of your apps absolutely needs, say,  IE10 with Java 6 update 32, how can you be sure that the user population has this, especially when they're using their own devices? In the SGD model you, the IT guy, can set up, say, a Windows Server running the exact environment required, and then use SGD to publish this app, without needing to worry any further about the device the end user is using. What's new?  So back to SGD 5.1 and what is new there: Android devices Since we introduced our support for iPad tablets in SGD 5.0 we've had a big demand from customers to extend this to Android tablets too, and so we're pleased to announce that 5.1 supports Android 4.x tablets such as Nexus 7 and 10, and the Galaxy Tab. Here's how it works, with screenshots from my Nexus 7: Simply point your browser to the SGD server URL and login; The workspace is the list of apps that the admin has deemed ok for you to run. You click on an application to run it (here's Excel and Oracle E-Business Suite): There's an extended on-screen keyboard (extended because desktop apps need keys that don't appear on a tablet keyboard such as ctrl, WIndow key, etc) and touch gestures can be mapped to desktop events (such as tap and hold to right click) All in all a pretty nice implementation for Android tablet users. Desktop Chrome Browsers SGD has always been designed around using a browser to access your applications. But traditionally, this has involved using Java to deliver the SGD client component. With HTML5 and Javascript engines becoming so powerful, we thought we'd see how well a pure web client could perform with desktop apps. And the answer was, surprisingly well. So with this release we now offer this additional way of working, which can be enabled by a simple bit of configuration. Here's a Linux desktop running in a tab in Chrome. And if you resize the browser window, the Linux desktop is resized by SGD too. Very cool! Oracle Unified Directory As I mentioned above, a lot of Oracle users already benefit from SGD. And a lot of Oracle customers use Oracle Unified Directory as their Enterprise and Carrier grade user directory. So it makes a lot of sense that SGD now supports this LDAP directory for both Authentication and as a means to determine which users get which applications, e.g. publish the engineering app to the guys in the Development group, but give everyone E-Business Suite to let them do their expenses. Summary With new devices, and faster 4G networking becoming more prevalent, the pressure for businesses to move to a increasingly mobile enterprise is stronger than ever. SGD is good for users, and even better for IT. By offering the user the ability to work from anywhere, and IT the control and security they need, everyone wins with SGD. • There was an error getting information about "/" while copying to desktop

  Currently running Ubuntu 13.10 after a fresh install/re install due to this problem. The error occurs whenever I try to drag a file from the Ubuntu search( in the launcher ), to the desktop. the whole error message is as follows... "Error while copying. There was an error getting information about “/”." Show more details reveals the following... "The specified location is not supported" I don't understand the problem and can't see any clear way of fixing it. Any and all advice would be appreciated. :)

• JET now available on OTN

  I know some of you have been waiting patiently, so I'm pleased to announce that the JET bundle is now available for download on the Oracle Technology Network. I've migrated most of the content from the old Sun wiki site, and got the download in a single handy location on OTN. Download JET now.  The version available is the current latest, which is 4.9.4. This version contains a number of updates, the most significant of which is the ability to specify slot locations instead of the traditional cXtYdZsN nomenclature. This is pretty useful when trying to Jumpstart multiple servers with SAS2.0 based HBAs, as they will have the WWN embedded in the cXtYdZsN name, and it's pretty difficult to guess what that will be until you've booted the server. The JetSDS and JetZFS modules have also been updated to use the slot terminology. Happy JETing,

• Tumblr is visiting my blog?

  I have created a blog on Tumblr a few days ago. Looking over the statistics, it seems that Tumblr itself is visiting my website, using different browsers. What is this supposed to mean? Are these real visitors or is it a Tumblr bot? One example: Browser: Chrome 32.0 OS: Win8 Resolution: 1024x768 Location: New York, United States IP Address: Tumblr (66.6.40.249) Referring URL: (No referring link) Other browsers used include: Chrome 20.0.1090.0 Firefox 21 Opera 12.14 Chrome 15.0.861.0 Chrome 32.0.1667.0 Internet Explorer 6 Internet Explorer 9 Opera 12 Opera 12.02 They all use the same screen resolution (1024x768) and have no referrer. The flash version is not set, but they do support javascript. Unfortunately, I don't have the full user agent string.

• Are these hacking attempts or something less sinister?

  I just had a look through our web server error logs, and Terminal services is reporting: "Remote session from client name a exceeded the maximum allowed failed logon attempts. The session was forcibly terminated." Hundreds of times, every 10.5 seconds or so for a period of about 5-10 minutes, once at 2pm yesterday and once again at about 1am this morning. We CURRENTLY have RDP open to the outside, as I am just completing the setup and now and then I/Others need to jump on from an outside office/location (VPN isn't an option) As these are so regular, am I right in assuming that they may be the result of some sort of dictionary attack? or could something like an internal admin's hung session cause such a mass of events? (Win Server 2008 R2)

• How to remove a page from site without affecting google serp

  I have a travel website. Just for information purposes, I had put a weather page. Now I realize that this page is increasing my overall bounce rate; because people who are looking for the weather forecast are landing on that page and getting what they want and exiting. What is the safest method to get rid of that page? Would it hurt my google rank if I remove it completely? Or is there a better way to handle this situation? I realize that around 21 percent of my daily hits are on that page. I would have been happy if my aim was to provide weather data for the location; however, my site needs to focus on selling hotels. So I think I need to get rid of this weather page immediately. What do you think?

  As the admin of my machine, I want users to be able to log into my computer with ssh, but I'm looking for a graphical way to be notified that a user is connected at the moment. If multiple users are connected, I want a list of connected users, their location, name, etc. This could be in the form of a forceCommand and 'alert' command when someone logs in, plus a icon saying how many people are connected right now in the notification bar, with the option to click on it to have more information about these users. Is there such a tool available in ubuntu, and if not, how to do it (I'm guessing it's not that difficult and could be done with under ten bash command lines) ?

• seo for complex url

  I have a jobs website. There are categories and sub categories e.g the url for builders is www.mydomain.com/jobs/all/active/202/tradesmen/799/builders/county/all Because of the framework im using (Elgg), the "all" and "active" come after the plugin name. Also, i need to do a lot of things with the url: get the pplugin (job), get the correct type of entities (all and active), get the category (202 and tradesmen), get the subcategory (799 & builders) and get the location (county and all). Is this URL seo friendly or is it too messy? Is something like www.mydomain.com/jobs/tradesmen/builders/all better?
