• Database designing for a bug tracking system in SQL

  I am an ASP.NET developer and I really dont do such of database stuff. But for my open source project on Codeplex I am required to setup a database schema for the project. So reading from here and there I have managed to do the following. As being new to database schema designing, I wanted some one else who has a better idea on this topic to help me identify any issues with this design. Most of the relationships are self explanatory I think, but still I will jot each one down. • Illustration for code presentation

  I got an odd request, and I fear it will be closed as off-topic. So be it, but it's worth a shot. I'm creating a presentation about dependency injection and inversion of control, and I thought I'd make the point of interchangeable parts that serve a common purpose, but has different implementations, by showing an image I've seen before. Basically the image is of a man or a woman, but the image is split up into four parts: Head Torso uhm... not sure the name of this part, stomach, etc. Legs Possibly a fifth with feet and for each part you can choose among a few variants, creating odd people in the process. ie. a man torso with a woman head. But, I can't find such an image now of course. Does anyone know of such an image and can provide me with an url?

• How do chains work in Rainbow tables?

  Hello, I was wondering if should one could explain in detail how chains work in rainbow tables as though you would a complete novice but with relevance to programming. I understand that a chain is 16 bytes long. 8 bytes mark the starting point and 8 mark the end. I also understand that in the filename we have the chain length i.e. 2400. Which means that between our starting point and end point in just 16 bytes we have 2400 possible clear texts? What? How does that work? in those 16 bytes how do i get my 2400 hashes and clear texts or am i miss understanding this? Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks P.s. I have read the related papers and googled this topic a fair bit. I think im just missing something important to make these gears turn.

  I'm very curious about old programming languages, especially COBOL, and as Wikipedia couldn't really tell me much about this topic, I decided to ask it here: Was COBOL the first programming language really being used in financial, stock and banking systems? Where exactly was COBOL used? Was it used more frequently than Fortran or BASIC, for example? I don't know if you lived at that time, but how did people react to the rising COBOL? Did they expect it to be the future? When has COBOL actually stopped being used to create new, big systems? Are you sure that there are still important legacy apps written in COBOL out there? I can't believe that somehow.

The user enters a word(s) in the textbox and selects a choice among the following. Depending on the choice select by the user I wish to return the following. Wikipedia: Return the content and link to the page corresponding to the topic about the word. Google: Return the top 10 results of google search for this word. • How to develop a Google Gadget compatible server

  I am going to develop a Google Gadget container site, that will be able to host OpenSocial compatible widgets (that I believe are Google gadgets, too, right?). Do you have any guidance where to start? I know that the good start is the iGoogle Developer Home site and that framework what I would like exists - Shindig, but is little clumsy. Tutorial links do not work, for start. Do you think it would be wise to use Shindig? Maybe just for a start and then develop any customizations, if needed? Or would be wiser to start from scratch? • Does CodeIgniter have to load view in the final step?

But apparently it is done before rendering the view. My question is, does $this->load->view(); have to be the final step in a function?   Hello: I would like to do an interesting project for a computer graphics course. I know that there is a lot of literature out there (i.e. SIGGRAPH conference papers). I have a very large range of interest with regard to computer graphics (i.e. image processing, 3D modeling, rendering, animation). However, I've only taken computer vision/graphics for 2 semesters and thus don't have too much background experience, except for the class projects that I had to do. I've been looking through SIGGRAPH papers trying to see if there is anything that will be of interest to me but the literature is extremely vast. I was wondering if anyone has any topic suggestions, anything interesting that you ran across that you could recommend. I would prefer to do something fun yet slightly challenging (not really interested in making a shooter game). • How do I determine if a packet is RTP/RTCP?

  I am using SharpPCap which is built on WinPCap to capture UDP traffic. My end goal is to capture the audio data from H.323 and save those phone conversations as WAV files. But first thing is first - I need to figure out what my UDP packets are crossing the NIC. SharpPCap provides a UdpPacket class that gives me access to the PayloadData of the message. But I am unsure what do with this data. It's a Byte[] array and I don't know how to go about determining if it's an RTP or RTCP packet. I've Googled this topic but there isn't much out there. Any help is appreciated.

• User Interface functionality modelling languages?

  I am looking for a UI functionality modelling language (UML-alike "thing", but for user interfaces) that is already accepted and maybe has its design patterns and handles the problem better than state or activity diagram. (If there is no such thing I'm planning to develop that BTW :)) This question came to mind as a result of a discovery that UML and its diagrams fails at describing complicated UI functionality with event-driven flow of execution (ie. javascript/jQuery big projects) EDIT: I've been thinking of using BPMN but It was not created for this purpose. • How to handle request-wise DB transactions in ASP.NET MVC?

  I'm using SubSonic 3.0 (SimpleRepository) to handle database access in my ASP.NET MVC 1.0 application. It would be nice to handle a transaction for every web request, committing if everything went smooth and rolling back in case of exception. Is this possible? If so, how? I know this topic has been discussed many times, but I just couldn't find a satisfactory answer. I have built my own solution (create a TransactionScope in the controller, then commit/rollback in OnActionExecuted), but it turns out to be very unreliable.

• iPhone: fast hash function for storing web images (url) as files (hashed filenames)

  What is a fast hash function available for the iPhone to hash web urls (images)? I'd like to store the cached web image as a file with a hash as the filename, because I suppose the raw web url could contain strange characters that could cause problems on the file system. The hash function doesn't need to be cryptographic, but it definitely needs to be fast. Example: Input: http://www.calumetphoto.com/files/iccprofiles/icc-test-image.jpg Output: 3573ed9c4d3a5b093355b2d8a1468509 This was done by using MD5(), but since I don't know much about that topic I don't know if it is overkill (- slow).

• Legality, terms of service for performing a web crawl

  I was going to crawl a site for some research I was collecting. But, apparently the terms of service is quite clear on the topic. Is it illegal to now "follow" the terms of service. And what can the site normally do? Here is an example clause in the TOS. Also, what about sites that don't provide this particular clause. Restrictions: "use any robot, spider, site search application, or other automated device, process or means to access, retrieve, scrape, or index the site" It is just research? Edit: "OK, from the standpoint of designing an efficient crawler. Should I provide some form of natural language engine to read terms of service and then abide by them."

So do excuse me if somehow I mess it up. Question: Let say I have class A,B,C and D now class A has some piece of code which I need to have in class B,C and D so I am extending class A in class B, class C, and class D Now how can I access the function of class A in other classes, do I need to create an object of class A and than access the function of class A or as am extending A in other classes than I can internally call the function using this parameter. If possible I would really appreciate if someone can explain this concept with code sample explaining how the logic flows.

• WebSphere MQ/MQSeries - Possible to send a message to multiple queues with single call?

  I'm queuing messages to a WebSphere MQ queue (NB: A point-to-point queue -- not a topic) using a stored procedure in my Oracle database. Is there a way to publish each message to multiple queues with a single call? What I would like is to find a solution that would incur zero additional latency on my database compared to sending the message to a single queue. Solutions that involve changing my WebSphere MQ settings are certainly welcome! What I had in mind was somehow creating a "clone" queue that got all the same messages as the original one, but I've been unable to locate anything like this in the documentation. Thanks, Jeff

  Hi, My application architecture looks like this. GWT in the UI layer - Calls GWT RPC service (servlets) - Looksup Spring Beans - Calls the DAO layer which is implemented in JPA (EclipseLink). I have successfully tested the application with GWT rpc services directly calling the JPA layer. But I am having trouble integrating spring into the mix. (Primary usage of Spring is transaction management). I tried googling, but could not find any good article on the topic.   I've thought about this before and this topic has often steered me away from Open Source projects. Recently DotNetPanel has changed it's name to WebSitePanel and gone Open Source. The rumor mill is speculating that Microsoft is behind this. My question (in multi-part) is quite simple. Can somebody please explain to me how quality assurance works on Open Source projects? How can a closed application get "only better" when Open Source? Doesn't the "too many cooks in the kitchen" theory apply when too many developers contribute (possibly bad) code to a project?

• pitchbend (varispeed) audio with iPhone SDK's AudioUnit

  hi, I'm trying to manipulate the speed (and pitch) of a sound while playing. so i played around with iphone sdk's AudioUnit. downloaded iPhoneMultichannelMixerTest and tried to add an AUComponent to the graph (in this case a formatconverter). but i get (pretty soon) following error when building: #import <AudioToolbox/AudioToolbox.h> #import <AudioUnit/AudioUnit.h> ... AUComponentDescription varispeed_desc(kAudioUnitType_FormatConverter, kAudioUnitSubType_Varispeed, kAudioUnitManufacturer_Apple); ^^ error: 'kAudioUnitSubType_Varispeed' was not declared in this scope. any ideas why? the documentation on this topic doesn't help me at all (just api doc isn't very helpful when having no clue about the concept behind). there are no examples on how to wire these effects together and manipulating there properties...so maybe i'm totally wrong, anyway any hint is great. thx for help.

• ActiveMQ - Removing queues programatically

  Fellow StackOverflowers, is there a way for me to remove a queue or a topic in ActiveMQ programatically? I am using ActiveMQ's standard persistency, and my application requires that, on startup, all new queues be dynamically re-created (unless there are messages stored in the queue, in which case, the queue should remain to exist). I am also creating all queues programatically through sessions. Is there an equivalent to that procedure, only to delete a queue? Querying and iterating through the existing queues would also be useful, but i haven't found a way to do that yet. Please help an ActiveMQ noob! =)

• compiling cocos3d 0.7.2 with Xcode5 error

  I tried to compile my cocos3d 0.7.2 project with xcode5. I am already stuck at the first error I get with the line “super.parent = aNode;” in CC3ParametricMeshNodes.m. this line is in the setParent function: -(void) setParent: (CC3Node*) aNode { super.parent = aNode; [self deriveNameFrom: aNode]; if ( !mesh ) self.box = self.parentBoundingBox; } and the error I get is: CC3ParametricMeshNodes.m:246:15: Assignment to readonly property I am sure that there will be other errors after this one is fixed. Is there any topic on common errors that occur while compiling cocos3d 0.7.2 with Xcode5? Thanks
