• SOA Suite 11g: Unable to start domain (Error occurred during initialization of VM)

  If you have recently installed SOA Suite, created a domain and then tried to start it only to find it fails with the error: Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Could not create the Java virtual machine. the solution is to edit the file <domain home>\bin\setSOADomainEnv.cmd/sh (depending on your platform) and modify the line: set DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS=-Xms512m -Xmx1024m to something like: set DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS=-Xms512m -Xmx768m Save the file and then try to start your domain again. • Intermittent Copy/Paste Problem in RDP

  If you use RDP to remotely connect to your servers, you've probably encountered a clipboard issue where copy/paste stops working.  A quick Google search on the problem indicates you can easily fix the problem by logging out/logging back in or killing/restarting rdpclip.exe on the remote server.  Here's an article which covers this topic. But what do you do when copy/paste is intermittent?  It works one second, stops working for 5-30 seconds, and then on its own starts working again.  This is what’s occurring in our new non-production environment.  The DBA team is setting up 16 new physical servers and 5 new virtual machines.  I haven’t found a server where this ISN’T happening.  This intermittent copy/paste issue is driving me crazy!

• What's the correct MAAS DHCP configuration?

  I've set up a MAAS controller by following this documentation: http://maas.ubuntu.com/docs1.4/cluster-configuration.html However, when I got to the DHCP configurations I was a little puzzled. The controller I created is at 172.16.142.61. It looks like that's the address for the "IP" text field. Going down the rest of the list I'm unsure of though. Should I just put in the subnet/broadcast/router (is that the gateway?) that the MAAS server resides in or am I suppost to just list the static address of the MAAS server and then define my own "virtual" subnet in the fields below?

• Is it possible to get a Proxy Authentication Dialog with Ubuntu Server?

  I've got a VM Virtual Box with Ubuntu Server. I'set the http_proxy variable using export http_proxy="http://1234:linux@proxy:8080" The problem is that Ubuntu will constantly try to connect to the internet, even when I'm not logged in my company's account, so everyday I need to reset my password since Ubuntu will constantly try to access the internet. Also, it's always a problem when I need to authenticate the proxy with a different user/password. Can't I just set it to make a small prompt when it tries to connect to the proxy and fails? Like Firefox, Chrome and every app I have installed with Windows 7? I get this small dialog box that asks for a username and password when it can't access the internet. The Ubuntu Server doesn't need constant internet connection, specially since it's only online for tests over LAN.

• How to set up bridged networking in Xen?

  I have 2 domU virtual machines installed on a 11.10 Oneiric Dom0. My internal network is on the 192.168.1 subnet, and when the domU's start, they get ips on the 192.168.122 subnet. I have attempted to follow the instructions here : http://wiki.kartbuilding.net/index.php/Xen_Networking xend-config.sxp is configured correctly, but neither of my domU's have a config file in /etc/xen to modify. ifconfig reports that I have the following devices : eth0, lo, tap3.0, vif3.0, vif4.0, virbr0 bridge-utils is installed. I also just attempted to follow these steps : http://serverfault.com/questions/233201/bringing-the-xenbr0-interface-up-on-xen-under-ubuntu-8-04 sudo brctl addbr xenbr0 sudo brctl addif xenbr0 vif3.0 device vif3.0 is already a member of a bridge; can't enslave it to bridge xenbr0. Any ideas on next steps are greatly appreciated!

• Loading content (meshes, textures, sounds) in the background

  In my game, I am aiming for a continuous world, that is, a world where you can go anywhere without breaking the immersion through load times and "virtual seams". My world is broken up into regions, which are nodes in a graph. A region is considered adjacent to another if it can be travelled to or seen from that region. In order to keep this continuous, I want to preload the assets needed in the adjacent regions (such as world meshes, textures, and music) before they are actually used. As for actually loading the content, I use a manager that keeps at most one copy of each asset in memory at a time, accessible by its filename. When I try to access an asset, it loads it (if necessary) and then returns it. I can then unload any asset that is currently loaded to save memory. Clearly, I want to do this in the background so there are no hiccups. I assume I have to use threads in some way, but I'm not sure how.

• Multiple Monitors using nvidia-prime or bumblebee on Ubuntu 13.10

  I've been unable to get multiple monitors to work with Ubuntu 13.10 using nvidia-prime or bumblebee. Could someone point me in the right direction? With nvidia-prime, I've tried the xorg.conf here http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/319.12/README/randr14.html, but I boot into "low graphics" mode and have to revert to get a desktop back. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. Edit: I've given up on nvidia-prime; I missed the fact that it never turns off the discrete card... So, I'm back to trying to get VIRTUAL displays working with Bumblebee.

  This short list is what I consider to be the “cream-of-the-crop” in developer conferences. This is also a list of the conferences that I plan on attending in 2011. If you feel your conference is just as good, then shoot me an email at [michael[at]michaelcrump[dot]net, and if possible I will check it out.   In-Person Event Las Vegas on April 18th-22nd, 2011 Redmond on October 17th-21st, 2011 Orlando on December 5th-9th, 2011 Visual Studio Live – I attended this event in November of last year and blogged about my experience. I am also planning on going back to the Orlando session in December of this year. So what did I like the most about this event? Being able to interact one-on-one with a majority of the speakers. If you read my blog post then you will see a list of the speakers that I met up with. I also made a lot of great connections with other professional developers all over the world. They are having an event in Las Vegas on April 18th-22nd. I noticed at this event that they have added a new track on mobile. Being a big fan of mobile, I feel that this is a great move. Codestock.org – If you live in the South then you have heard of CodeStock. To my knowledge, they have only had 3 events so far and they were a huge success. It was such a success that after the last event, everyone was telling me how good it was and how much they enjoyed it. They currently have a call for speakers going on right now, so if you have sessions then be sure to submit yours. So, what makes them stand out? Well for starters Michael Neal (organizer) developed an open API so conference attendees could build their own apps for the sessions. They also encouraged their speakers to go to other sessions instead of stay in a “speaker-room”. Another cool feature is that they are uploading videos from the conference so everyone can benefit. They are currently looking for sponsorship, so help out if you can.   In-Person Event Redmond, WA on October 28/29 2011 *NOT 100% SURE AT THIS POINT* PDC 11 – OK, so the logo should be pdc11 but its not out yet. This event is located on Microsoft’s campus in Redmond, WA. It is probably one of the most well known conferences for developers to attend. One of the big perks from this event is that you typically come away with free stuff. In 2010 they gave away Windows 7 Phones. I remember years earlier they gave away laptops. This of course isn’t the only reason to go, you may get to tour the Microsoft campus. Since pdc is a huge event, you can view all the events for free. • SVN Checkout folder as local webroot

  I have XAMPP installed and running. I have an SVN working directory (WD) on my local that checks out from the repository. I set up a virtual host in xampp to point to my WD, but my browser (FF) gives me a 500 http status error: Either the server is overloaded or there was an error in a CGI script. When I place a regular folder in the same location with the WD and switch names, it works fine.. Can I not use an SVN working directory as a web root folder?

• How to merge two .iso images

  I am following this tutorial to install Android onto my computer VIA Virtual Box. My problem is, they want you to download liveandroidv0.3.iso.001 liveandroidv0.3.iso.002 then they want you to merge these two files with cat liveandroidv0.3.iso.001 liveandroidv0.3.iso.002 > liveandroidv0.3.iso in the Terminal. The problem is, when I run the command, I get the following output cat liveandroidv0.3.iso.001 liveandroidv0.3.iso.002 > liveandroidv0.3.iso cat: liveandroidv0.3.iso.001: No such file or directory cat: liveandroidv0.3.iso.002: No such file or directory So, I was wondering if there was an alternative way to merge these files? Or if you guy's could help me merge them this way? Extra info: OS: Ubuntu 12.10 I downloaded the files to my /downloads folder in my home directory.

• Demonstration Image BIC2G for Partners (OBI, Exalytics, BI-Apps, and EPM)

  There is now available the new version of the VirtualBox Demonstration Image, "BIC2g 2012-10" for Partners; including support for OBI, Exalytics, BI Applications, and EPM Hyperion applications. This is a demonstration, training and POV image that contains BI/Exalytics, BI Applications, and EPM product (software). It was originally developed to support internal Oracle Exalytics training, and has been expanded to include BI Applications. It is an OVA virtual appliance that can be imported into VirtualBox. Details can be found in the BIC2g Partner Edition Exalytics Readme and BIC2g Partner Edition Deployment Guide, and it can be downloaded from the Partner FTP site at /static/BIC2G (see BI Solutions Engineering Partner Portal for connection information and further detail on Demonstration Images for Partners).

  I am newbie in Linux word. I want to implement a bosh server. Because it is hard on Windows platform I decided to deploy it on a Ubuntu virtual machine via vmware. I made installation without problems. I followed the processes on this page. Now I want to test my bosh server with the command sudo bosh or sudo /etc/init.d/bosh start, after typing those I get on the terminal Starting bosh server after, nothing. I looked on the bosh.err file and I see exec: 2: /usr/local/lib/bosh/run-server.js: Permission denied I don? t know why this error with sudo. When I try ls -l /usr/local/lib/bosh/run-server.js it show -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4889 2012-04-01 18:50 /usr/local/lib/bosh/run-server.js How can I make bosh start?

• USB sound device not recognized

  I have a USB sound device that used to work back when I ran other versions of Ubuntu. Now I can only partially see the device. I have tried many things I saw in Google searches, but none solve my problem. cat /proc/asound/cards sees the device as card 0 aplay -l shows C-Media USB Audio as card 0 alsamixer sees the device asoundconf list does not show the device sound preferences shows no hardware asoundconf-gtk set the device to pulseaudio, but fails with python errors ending in ValueError: too many values to unpack in the function set_default_card. I think this is the cause of my problem. The device is a Sony virtual phones wireless headphone amplifier.

• Why is a linked list implementation considered linear?

  My apologies for asking such a simple question. Instead of posting such basic question in SO, I felt that this is more apt a question here. I tried finding an answer for this but none of them are logically appealing or convincing to my understanding. Typically, computer memory is always linear. So is the term non linear used for a data structure in a logical sense? If so, to logically achieve non linearity in a linear computer memory, we use pointers. Right? In that case, if pointers are virtual implementations for achieving non linearity, Why would a data structure like linked list be considered linear if in reality the nodes are never physically adjacent?
