• gVim doesn't recognize the Meta (Alt) Key in an imap after changing the encoding

  In order to edit html files, I have the following three imaps in a file that I source for filetype html: imap <buffer> <M-[> &uuml; imap <buffer> <M-;> &ouml; imap <buffer> <M-'> &auml; This works fine until I change the encoding of the html file with set enc=utf-8. Now, pressing Alt-[ for example gives me a Û. Interestingly, after sourcing the same file again, it expands the imaps correctly. This doesn't really make sense to me. So, why is this and how can I have a more constistent environment regarding imap and utf-8. This is occuring with gVim 7.1 for Windows.

• Optimum encoding standard for flowplayer to play mp4

  I'm using flow player 3.1.1 for streaming videos to my browser.The videos are uploaded by the users and they may upload different formats. What will be solution to stream the videos as mp4 , what ever be the format they upload. I'm currently using ffmpeg commands. ffmpeg -i "InputFile.mp4" -sameq -vcodec libx264 -r 35 -acodec libfaac -y "OutputFile.mp4" But video files of more size(say 100mb) are taking a minute more for laoding in to the flowplayer and buffering. I think the problem with my encoding. Welcome your valuable Suggestions!!!

• FOP Encoding issue

  Hi Guys, I have a similar issue.. I have HTML stored in DB clob. I am retrieving that and converting to XHTML using TIDY.jar. Once i got XHTML then using FOP i am converting to XSL-FO. Finally XSL-FO is rendering in PDF. Previously everything is working fine with Linux-WAS5-java1.4. Recently we migrated the apps to Linux-WAS6-Java1.5. Now XHTML to XSL-FO is messing up everything. XSL-FO contains ???(Question marks) in the place of Euro, spase(nbsp), Agrave, egrave ..etc. I tried changing the JVM encoding to UTF-8 and also i have modified my servlet request and response to support UTF-8. I am helfless and unable to figure where exactly the issue is coming out. Can someone please check this and suggest me some solution. Thanks in advance

• Accept-Encoding headers being sent by browser but not received by server

  I have been trying to debug this for weeks. All of the browsers on all of the clients on my home network are sending 'Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate'. However, that header is somehow, somewhere being dropped before the request makes it to a web server. For example, http://www.whatsmyip.org/http_compression/ says 'No, your browser is not requesting compressed content'. I've used Fiddler to make sure that all of my browsers are indeed sending the header. I've swapped out my router. I've turned off all anti-virus software. Brighthouse/Roadrunner (the local cable ISP) says they are not doing any filtering (and I can't see why they would in this case). Any suggestions would be most welcome!

  Apologies if this is a stupid question - I'm an Android and Ant newbie. I have utf8 encoded source files that I need to compile with the Android Ant build system. By default, the encoding is set to ascii. I'd be very grateful for a pointer to whatever I need to do to let the build system know that my files are utf8. Incidentally, it works fine if I build in Eclipse, but I need to build from the command line. Thanks!

  i am using fancybox.net for my light boxes. it works great with images. but when i use iframe option i am having problems with encoding. i use hebrew and english and russian on my website. when i use UTF-8 on the iframe page i get squares instead of hebrew letters. when i change to iso-8859-8 i have hebrew but inverted, and russian goes: ??????????? any idea? my website is UTF-8 and every thing works great.. except fancybox :(

You should be careful to always HTML encode any user-entered values to avoid HTML and JavaScript injection attacks Huh? MVC is managing the data binding for us. Where/how are you supposed to do the HTML encoding?

My code for this is: data = {'body': data_string} data_encoded = json.dumps(data) Any ideas? Thanks! Edit: I've tried using json.dumps(data, ensure_ascii=False) but it results in a UnicodeError ordinal not in range error.

Where I can simply reference the property file doing something like that: <property file="webapp_DO_NOT_COMMIT.properties"/> (the file is so named because our DVCS is configured as to never commit files containing "DO_NOT_COMMIT" to prevent committing credentials/passwords/etc.) Here's a very simple .properties file example: passwd=brokencleartextpassword Now I want to put some configuration in another, similar, properties file that I need to access from my Java code.   Apache is the front-end to my web app then I use mod_rewrite to proxy the request to JBoss. So far this sounds pretty standard, but the problem I am having is: if I access the app directly through jboss @ http://localhost:8080/app/page?raw=foo%26bar&page=1: request.getParameter("raw") = foo&bar If I access the app through Apache @ http://localhost/foo%26bar&page=1 request.getParameter("raw") = foo So somewhere along the way, the %26 is lost and replaced with an & which chops the raw variable. This is my Apache rewrite rule. RewriteRule ^/(.*) \ http://localhost:8080/app/home?raw=$1 [L,P] The Apache access log shows: http://localhost/foo%26bar&page=1 And the rewrite log shows: http://localhost:8080/app/home?raw=foo&bar&page=1 But I want the request to be: http://localhost:8080/app/home?raw=foo%26bar&page=1 I am pretty sure that this also occurs with slashes / too so to me this is some sort of encoding issue. Is there a way to proxy the URL untouched? Can't seem to figure this one out.

• I have string with "\u00a0" and I need to replace it with "" str_replace fails

  I need to clean a string that comes (copy/pasted) from various office suite (excel, access, word) each with his own set of encoding. I'm using json_encode for debugging purposes in order to being able to see every single encoded character. I'm able to clean everything I found so far (\r \n) with str_replace, but with \u00a0 I have no luck. $string = '[email protected]\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0;[email protected]'; //this is the output from json_encode $clean = str_replace("\u00a0", "",$string); returns: [email protected]\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0;[email protected] that is exactly the same, it completly ignores \u00a0. Is there a way around this also I'm feeling I'm reinventing the wheel, is there any function/class that completely strips EVERY possibile char of EVERY possible encoding?   I am usin the nsxmlparser and am wondering how I can parse ISO-8859-1 correctly into an NSString. Currently, I am getting results w/ Â for two-byte characters. The XML I'm using (not created by me) starts with <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> Here are the basic calls I'm using (omitted the NSThread calls). • Forcing a mixed ISO-8859-1 and UTF-8 multi-line string into UTF-8

  Consider the following problem: A multi-line string $junk contains some lines which are encoded in UTF-8 and some in ISO-8859-1. I don't know a priori which lines are in which encoding, so heuristics will be needed. I want to turn $junk into pure UTF-8 with proper re-encoding of the ISO-8859-1 lines. Also, in the event of errors in the processing I want to provide a "best effort result" rather than throwing an error. My current attempt looks like this: $junk = &force_utf8($junk); sub force_utf8 { my $input = shift; my $output = ''; foreach my $line (split(/\n/, $input)) { if (utf8::valid($line)) { utf8::decode($line); } $output .= "$line\n"; } return $output; } While this appears to work I'm certain this is not the optimal solution. • Base64 Encode String in VBScript

  I have a web service load driver that's a Windows Script File (WSF), that includes some VBScript and JavaScript files. My web service requires that the incoming message is base64 encoded. I currently have a VBScript function that does this, but it's very inefficient (memory intensive, mostly due to VBScripts awful string concatenation) [Aside; Yes, I've seen Jeff's latest blog post. The concatenation is happening in a loop across messages that are 1,000's to 10,000's bytes in size.] I've tried using some custom string concatenation routines; one using an array and one using ADODB.Stream. These help, a little, but I think it would help more if I had some other way of encoding the message rather than via my own VBS function. Is there some other way of encoding my message, preferebly using native Windows methods?

Tried to use javac -encoding ISO-8859-7. Also tried java -Dfile.encoding=ISO-8859-7. Assuming that as I do not have greek font in my pc, I downloaded achillies (greek font - Ach4.ttf).Installed it by going to control panel fonts. Any ideas?

• weird characters in HTML email

  Hi stackers! I'm reading email from a maildir and some emails have weird sets of characters in them: =3D =09 I think =3D is = and =09 is a space. There are some others, but I'm not sure: =E2 =80 =93 Does anyone know what these are and what encoding issues I'm dealing with here? BTW, I tried fetching these email via POP3 and it's the same thing. The reason I'm posting this on SO is not because I'm using a regular mail client to read the data. I'm reading via PHP out of maildir files. Perhaps a regular email client would detect what encoding this is and deal with it. Thanks!

  I am using libxml2 in my iPhone app. I have an NSString that holds the pathname to an XML file. The pathname may include non-ASCII characters. I want to get a C string representation of the NSString for to pass to xmlReadFile(). It appears that cStringUsingEncoding gives me the representation I seek. I am not clear on which encoding to use. I wonder if there is a "default" encoding in iPhone OS that I can use here and ensure that I can roundtrip non-ASCII pathnames.

• VB.NET - Convert Unicode in one TB to Shift-JIS in another TB

  Trying to develop a text editor, I've got two textboxes, and a button below each one. When the button below textbox1 is pressed, it is supposed to convert the Unicode text (intended to be Japanese) to Shift-JIS. The reason why I am doing this is because the software VOCALOID2 only allows ANSI and Shift-JIS encoding text to be pasted into the lyrics system. Users of the application normally have their keyboard set to change to Japanese already, but it types in Unicode. How can I convert Unicode text to Shift-JIS when SJIS isn't available in the System.Text.Encoding types?
