• NOT LIKE not working on comparison to a column

  Data is fairly large and takes few minutes to run it every time, so its taking a lot of time debugging this problem. When I run like concat('%',T.item,'%') on smaller data it seems to identify items properly. However, when I run it on the main DB (the code shown), it still shows many(maybe even all) of the exceptions. • Hard drive randomly sppeeding up

  Having a weird issue with my hard drive. Running Windows 7 with an I5 processor. At random times the hard drive will start running at top speed and gradually return to normal over the next two minutes or so. Going to Resource Monitor it shows a variety of things with high read or write numbers. Log files NTFS volume log, Windows prefetch, System/user/appdata, and Program data Norton are the usual top ones listed. This just started about three months ago although the computer is about 3 years old. Have run in safe mode with internet over the weekend going to all of my usual sites with no such speed up. Question 1 - what can be causing this? Question 2 - how can I find out where data is being sent(especially if over the net)? Thank you.

• Block upload of executable images (PHP)

  It has come to my attention that a user has been trying to create an exploit through avatar image uploads. This was discovered when a user reported to me that they were getting a notice from their Norton Anti-virus saying "HTTP Suspicious Executable Image Download." This warning was referencing the user's avatar image. I don't think they had actually achieved anything in the way of stealing information or anything like that, but I assume it could be possible if the hole is left open long enough. I use PHP to upload the image files, and I check if the file being uploaded is a png, jpg, or gif.

• PERT shows relationships between defined tasks in a project without taking into consideration a time line

  The program evaluation and review technique (PERT) shows relationships between defined tasks in a project without taking into consideration a time line. This chart is an excellent way to identify dependencies of tasks based on other tasks. This chart allows project managers to identify the critical path of a project to minimize any time delays to the project. According to Craig Borysowich in his article “Pros & Cons of the PERT/CPM Method stated the following advantages and disadvantages: “PERT/CPM has the following advantages: A PERT/CPM chart explicitly defines and makes visible dependencies (precedence relationships) between the WBS elements, PERT/CPM facilitates identification of the critical path and makes this visible, PERT/CPM facilitates identification of early start, late start, and slack for each activity, PERT/CPM provides for potentially reduced project duration due to better understanding of dependencies leading to improved overlapping of activities and tasks where feasible.  PERT/CPM has the following disadvantages: There can be potentially hundreds or thousands of activities and individual dependency relationships, The network charts tend to be large and unwieldy requiring several pages to print and requiring special size paper, The lack of a timeframe on most PERT/CPM charts makes it harder to show status although colors can help (e.g., specific color for completed nodes), When the PERT/CPM charts become unwieldy, they are no longer used to manage the project.” (Borysowich, 2008) Traditionally PERT charts are used in the initial planning of a project like in a project that is utilizing the waterfall approach. Once the chart was created then project managers could further analyze this data to determine the earliest start time for each stage in the project. This is important because this information can be used to help forecast resource needs during a project and where in the project. However, the agile environment can approach this differently because of their constant need to be in contact with the client and the other stakeholders.  The PERT chart can also be used during project iteration to determine what is to be worked on next, such as a prioritized To-Do list a wife would give her husband at the start of a weekend. In my personal opinion, the COTS-centric environment would not really change how a company uses a PERT chart in their day to day work. The only thing I can is that there would be less tasks to include in the chart because the functionally milestones are already completed when the components are purchased.   A Day in the Life of an OpenWorld Attendee Part I Lots of people are blogging insightfully about OpenWorld so I thought I would provide some non-insightful remarks to buck the trend! With 50,000 attendees I didn’t expect to bump into too many people I knew, boy was I wrong!  I walked into the registration area and immediately was hailed by a couple of customers I had worked with a few months ago.  Moving to the employee registration area in a different hall I bumped into a colleague from the UK who was also registering.  As soon as I got my badge I bumped into a friend from Ireland!  So maybe OpenWorld isn’t so big after all! First port of call was Larrys Keynote.  As always Larry was provocative and thought provoking.  His key points were announcing the Oracle cloud offering in IaaS, PaaS and SaaS, pointing out that Fusion Apps are cloud enabled and finally announcing the 12c Database, making a big play of its new multi-tenancy features.  His contention was that multi-tenancy will simplify cloud development and provide better security by providing DB level isolation for applications and customers. Next day, Monday, was my first full day at OpenWorld.  The first session I attended was on monitoring of OSB, very interesting presentation on the benefits achieved by an Illinois area telco – US Cellular.  Great discussion of why they bought the SOA Management Packs and the benefits they are already seeing from their investment in terms of improved provisioning and time to market, as well as better performance insight and assistance with capacity planning. Craig Blitz provided a nice walkthrough of where Coherence has been and where it is going. Last night I attended the BOF on Managed File Transfer where Dave Berry replayed Oracles thoughts on providing dedicated Managed File Transfer as part of the 12c SOA release.  Dave laid out the perceived requirements and solicited feedback from the audience on what if anything was missing.  He also demoed an early version of the functionality that would simplify setting up MFT in SOA Suite and make tracking activity much easier. So much for Day 1.  I also ran into scores of old friends and colleagues and had a pleasant dinner with my friend from Ireland where I caught up on the latest news from Oracle UK.  Not bad for Day 1!

• VMWare Server Windows 2008 NAT Problem

  At my new job our workstations run Windows Server 2008. However, for the specific task for which I've been hired, I need to set up a couple Linux VMs. So I grabbed the free VMWare Server and created an Ubuntu image and a Slackware image. (The former to more closely mimic the production server, the latter because I'm more familiar with it.) For desktop security purposes I need to use NAT for the network access (I would have preferred bridged, but I'm told that would go against some policy here and my whole workstation would be sandboxed from the switch). However, I can't seem to get it working right. I can ping out from the VMs to LAN addresses as well as internet addresses. I can resolve DNS names. However, attempts to use a web browser or perform any kind of higher-level interaction like that just time out. Googling around yesterday led me to various workarounds that were similar, but didn't solve my specific situation. (For example, Norton firewall blocking the connection on the host, or even the Windows firewall.) I also saw some forum posts where people said it's a known issue with VMWare and Windows Server 2008 (and Windows 7). So far I haven't been able to find a suggestion that gets me past this roadblock. I'm really not very familiar with managing a Windows Server 2008 box, so it's possible there's just some security setting somewhere that I need to modify. Does anybody have any suggestions on where I should look? UPDATE: I'm now looking at the "Network and Sharing Center" on the host workstation and it shows "VMWare Network Adapter VMnet8" (which is what I'm using) as an "Unidentified network" with "No Internet access." Looks like I can't modify ICS under the group policy. Any suggestions on how to allow this connection to have internet access?

• How can I set my bootloader to load my primary (C:) partition?

  I created 4 partitions and want to use them to have seperate Windows XP, Windows 7, (possibly) Windows Vista installations, and "WinDummy" (to test applications in Vista, XP or another OS). I used Norton Ghost to install an OS to the drive in about 3 minutes. My problem is that I installed the spare first on the 4th partition, then Windows 7 on the second. I tried to set the bootloader (with easybcd) to use the first partition - but it doesn't want to. Heres my debug screen on easybcd As you can see, the device is set to H and i cant figure out how to change it. I can make my bootloader use Windows 7 first, but I can't make it use my C: install of XP instead of my spare H:. How would I fix this? • Unable to stop chrome.exe *32

  So I was installing roboform today and was unable to stop the process chrome.exe *32... Even when I uninstalled chrome. This is the error I got: I used lockhunter and it said it was located in %appdata%\Local\Google\Chrome. However, it was unable to unlock, delete or rename. When I use explorer to delete or rename that folder, it says it's being used by Chrome. Even after restarting my computer it still does this. I've tried using the built in chrome task manager (Wrench View Background Pages) and I can't seem to find a process there that has the same amount of memory. I have run many, many virus scans, by: Microsoft security essentials AVG (Free version) Malwarebytes (Pro version) Norton 360 (Pro version) McAfee (Pro Version) Avira (Free version) Avast! Antivirus (Free version) None of which returned with any viruses. • Trojan Horse Generic.15.apnz Virus Impossible to get rid of?!

  Hi Guys I'm new to this forum so I'm unsure whether this is the right place for a question like this. I have a Trojan Horse infection that lives in memory and seems to be impossible to get rid of. I've tried a vew AntiVirus products (Norton, Windows Essentials & AVG Free) all to no avail & I've recently tried a few bootable antivirus solutions I found here: http://www.techmixer.com/free-bootable-antivirus-rescue-cds-download-list/ Kaspersky Rescue Disk 2008 (failed - it wouldn't even load the UI, is there a newer one out there?) F Secure Rescue Disk (Updates & Scanner ran, found 10 infections, said it was going to delete or repair them, but didn't get rid of them) Avira found a load of infections but it froze when I tried to interact with the UI after the scan. Every time I run these I'll load Windows after & run AVG, and it still finds Trojan Horse Generic.15.apnz (in Services.exe) & Trojan Horse Generic.16.ARSU (in svchost.exe) Is anyone familiar with a virus like this? Can anyone suggest how to approach a solution? Thanks Dave

• Raid-1 Western Digital Green AARS, cloning and WD Align Utility

  Hello all, My current setup runs on top of 2x Western Digital 2500KS drives on Raid-1, using the motherboard's 780G raid controller, on WinXP. Everything is fine, but the drives are a bit noisy. I am considering buying 2x WD6400AARS disks which are the 640GB slower 'green' drives, but also feature the Advanced Formatting 4KB sectors. This means that for WinXP the partition will have to be aligned to work properly, else there is a performance penalty. There are 2 questions here: The Green drives from WD are all slower and are (according to WD) susceptible to drop-out's from the controller. Has anyone any experience in this matter? Is there a possibility the controller will drop a drive? If so, can i do anything about it? Secondly, western digital gives a utility to perform the alignment on the partition. The thing is, will the utility see the drives in question as the operating system only sees 1 logical disk? I will be making the transition using a cloning tool (most probably norton ghost) unless i don't find a solution or a clear answer, in which case i'll just buy a win 7 license and make a clean install... thx in advance

• Browsers hang when loading web pages

  HP Laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2. Problem affects IE8 and Firefox. When attempting to browse most web sites, browser loads web site title in browser's title bar, then displays "Waiting for site url" and never completes loading the page. Able to connect to www.google.com with no problems. Unable to connect to www.carbonwy.com, www.wsj.com, www.cnn.com, www.microsoft.com, etc. Other PCs on same subnet are all able to connect to these sites without any problem. nslookup resolves all of these sites without any problem, so DNS does not appear to be the problem. Windows Firewall is disabled. Norton 360 was previously installed but has been uninstalled. No other firewall software is installed. IE8 Protected Mode is off. IE8 advanced settings have been reset. IE8 user settings have been reset. After reset, IE8 tries to connect to http://hp-laptop.aol.com and go.microsoft.com but same symptoms persist. Title bar loads, then nothing. System has been restarted numerous times. Running out of ideas. Please help!

• Windows Media Sharing not 'always' being detected by PS3

  I'm having a weird problem with Windows Media Sharing on Windows 7 .. I have the following hardware in my network: PC 1 --- My main PC --- runs Windows 7 Ultimate x64 PC 2 --- My backup PC --- runs Windows 7 Ultimate x32 PS3 PC 1 is my main PC which has all my data/media on it .. PC 2 is a backup PC I have, but I use it like once in 2 months .. It has nothing installed on it apart from some very very basic software ... Problem is, my PS3 always sees the media sharing service coming from PC 2, but it never sees the media sharing service coming from PC 1 initially .. Both PC 1 and PC 2 have the same media sharing configuration (All everything on all devices on all networks) ... But when I restart both PCs, the PS3 will only detect PC 2's media sharing service, not PC1 .... However here's the twist .. When PC 1 is restarted, and if I view my 'Network' on PC 2, I do see PC 1's Media Sharing Service, and I'm able to play from it too on PC 2 .. To get my PS3 to also see PC 1's media sharing service, I have to do either of the following 2 things: 1) Play something from PC 1's media sharing service on PC 2 ... The PS3 will then magically also detect PC 1's media sharing service .. 2) Go into the Services area on PC 1 and restart the 'Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service' ... After this, the PS3 also instantly starts to see PC 1's media sharing service .. Since my PS3 is like a month old and is properly detecting PC 1's media sharing service, I think the problem is somewhere in the configuration of PC 1's media sharing service ... Also, on PC 1 I have Norton Internet Security 2012 installed, but I've disabled it completely, and have also disabled Windows Firewall (from PC 1 only) .. Can someone shed some light onto this ?

• Midnight Commander Woes: Output while panels are active, and tab completion.

  I'm trying out midnight commander (loved Norton back in the day!) and I'm finding two things hard to work out. I'm curious if there's ways around this or not however. 1) If the panels are active and I issue a command that has a lot of output, it appears to be lost forever. i.e., if the panels are visible and I cat something (i.e., cat /proc/cpuinfo), that info is gone forever once the panels get redrawn. Is there anyway to see the output? I've tried 'ctrl-o', but it appears to just give me a fresh sub-shell and wipes the previous output away. Pausing after every invocation is a bit irritating, so I'd rather not use that option. 2) Tab completion for commands When mc is running, it consumes the tab character for switching panels. Is there any way to get around this so I can still type in paths and what not on the command line? I'm running cygwin if that matters at all.

  Similar to this post, I'd like to change my proxy settings using a script. However, it fails. When I am behind the proxy, IE does not connect to the internet. • Looking to replace Ghost with FSArchiver or Clonezilla, few questions about capabilities

  I work for a PC Repair company and we are looking into setting up a dedicated machine with externally accessible SATA bays to clone harddrives as a safety net incase something goes wrong during a repair. We currently use a SATA/PATA to USB bridge called MagicBridge and Norton Ghost on any workstation, but we're looking to move away from Ghost. We have a computer with a large RAID5 array with Windows Server 2008 Standard currently installed, but this can be replaced with a flavour of *nix. I have some experience with Clonezilla, but FSArchiver also seems like a suitable replacment too. My Head Technician wants to know if my chosen solution (probably Clonezilla or FSArchiver, but I'm open to free suggestions) is capable of: Cloning a degraded RAID, such as a single drive from a RAID1 mirror without complaining Producing images that are easily mountable (he'd prefer them to be mountable in Windows, but if there is no other easy way, *nix should be fine) akin to Ghost Explorer so individual files can be restored as well as being able to do bare metal restores. My apologies for wordiness but I wanted to be thorough in my explaination. Thanks for any suggestions or tips :) EDIT: I've just found out that Clonezilla has a workaround for cloning RADI1 drives EDIT2: Found the answer to both of my questions, aparently I wasn't phrasing my searches right, could this question be deleted please?

• SSD Drive not being recongized in BIOS

  Well I bought my first drive Mushkin Chronos 180GB and got it installed in my computer and loaded up. I went to windows 7 and initialized the drive and then I installed "SSDlife Free" and loaded it up and my the SSD drive came up said it was "powered on 3 times"(thought it was odd but then thought maybe some testing???). I then restarted my computer and loaded into Acronis. Went to my SSD drive and make a partition called windows(made a basic logical partition). I then loaded up Norton ghost and wanted to copy my current windows onto the SSD drive on the partition I made found out I could not do it through the recovery disk so I made a backup of my windows drive and wanted to then restore it onto the SSD drive. Came back an hour later when the backup was done. I tried to restore the it on my SSD drive and could not find the partition so I loaded up Acronis again and it did not see it. I then went to the bios and saw only my other hard drive. What I tried Tried uplugging and replugging in both sata and power cables. Tried using the power and sata cable from the working drive and giving it the ones that SSD drive were using. Tried Sata AHCI Mode (Intel ICH9 Southbridge) Tried SATA PORT0-1 NATIVE MODE (Intel ICH9 Southbridge) Nothing worked. Software / hardware Windows 7 ultimate Gigabyte S-Series GA-P35-DS3L Mother board I hope someone has some ideas on why it is not being recognized.

• How do I restore a Windows Server 2008 R2 bare metal backup to a Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V instance?

  I have been trying to find a simple way to migrate a physical Windows Server 2008 R2 installation over to a virtual machine hosted on Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter Edition /w Hyper-V. I came across the bare metal backup feature on Windows Server 2008 R2 and assumed I would be able to easily back it up and simply restore it into a new virtual machine by booting the installation media and getting into the Windows recovery process. When I attempted this, Hyper-V got into a network based restore process, but I do not have a PXE server or anything like that and I would rather not set it up. I tried mounting the VHD produced in the bare metal backup, just to see if it would somehow work, but it of course did not and failed with an error related to an incorrect boot device. I checked the virtual machine's BIOS settings and everything looked fine. I did not expect this to work anyway, so I stopped working through this method any further. Is there a way to take my bare metal backup and restore it into a virtual machine without a PXE server or SCVMM? I am opening to using proprietary tools but since the last time I did this I used Norton Ghost, which is no longer supported, I figured I would try doing it with what is readily available.

• OS X can connect to Windows machine, but can't access shared folders

  I can create new folders on my Windows XP machine, set them to "shared". On my Mac, I pick Finder → Go → Connect to Server → smb://192.168.1.4 → Connect → Name / Password. It even shows me all the names of the newly created shared-folders on my PC, but when I try to actually connect to any of them I get connection failed, there was an error connecting Any idea on what would cause that? The fact that it successfully gets so far—to actually showing me my PC share-names—must mean I have 99% of this working correctly, i.e. the physical connection, the IP address, the user name, the password, etc. Still, I can't seem to access the folders themselves. I've tried this with my Windows XP firewall on/off, and Norton AntiVirus on/off. Same problem. Everything did work fine, 4 months ago. Were there any odd OS X or Windows updates released recently? I always apply them all. smbclient on the Mac does correctly find the XP machine, my XP user name, and accepts my XP password. I get the following from that smbclient command: Doing spnego session setup (blob length=16) server didn't supply a full spnego negprot Got challenge flags: ... Got NTLMSSP flags: ... Got NTLMSP flags: ... Domain=[XPMACHINE] OS=[Windows 5.1] Server=[Windows 2000 LAN Manager] tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_INSUFF_SERVER_RESOURCES I'm not sure why a standard XP box can't "supply a full spnego negprot". Whatever that means. Using XP's RegEdit to change my IRPStackSize from 11... to 13, 15, 20, 22... still gives that "NT_STATUS_INSUFF_SERVER_RESOURCES" error on the Mac.

• Windows Update and lsass.exe

  I have a brand new installation of Windows XP (SP1 or older). I installed Norton AntiVirus, Firefox, Putty, and Cygwin. No other software is present. Windows Update finds the following 64 updates: KB905760, KB978262, Internet Explorer 8, KB71961, KB954155, KB968816, KB923561, KB950762, KB949402, KB950974, KB951376, KB951748, KB952004, KB952954, KB955069, KB956572, KB956802, KB956803, KB956844, KB958470, KB958869, KB959426, KB960803, KB960859, KB961501, KB969059, KB970238, KB970238, KB971032, KB971468, KB971657, KB972270, KB973507, KB973815, KB973904, KB974112, KB974318, KB974392, KB975025, KB975560, KB975561, KB975713, .......) When these updates are applied, the system reboots to a black screen with two error messages. The first error message says: lsass.exe - Application Error The application failed to initialize properly (0xc00000142). Click on OK to terminate the application. The second error message says: services.exe - Application Error The application failed to initialize properly (0xc00000142). Click on OK to terminate the application. I then proceed to boot into Safe Mode, use System Restore, and everything works fine again until the 64 updates re-appear in Windows Update. I can see two options: disable Auto-Updates or install each of the 64 updates one at a time until finding the troublesome update. Does anyone have any better ideas?

• What is the proper way of debugging a slow Windows installation?

  You know the drill - you've been asked to check why you cousin's computer is running slow. I was there yesterday. Being a Mac user since 2007 I haven't really dug deep in Windows internals in the past five years. Googling for answers reveals many, many different answers: broken registry, spyware, antivirus program, fragmented disk, turning of visual effects etc. In this particular case I was asked to look at a two year old HP laptop with Vista. Windows was running incredibly slow and even opening up a new explorer window took almost a minute. I ended up doing everything of the above: running cc cleaner, defragmenting the disk, turning off visual effects, turning off norton and a bunch of other things people believe have an impact on Windows performance. Now I'd like to understand this in depth. Is there a proper, "scientific" if you so will, way of debugging and understanding where the problem with a slow running Windows installation lies? (In my particular case this concerned Windows Vista but let's try to create general guide for XP and Windows 7 too). To me, it seems wrong to just run a bunch of different tools without understanding the underlying cause of the error.

• Windows 7 hangs with 100% disk activity but only when online

  I have the same problem as seemingly many other people here, and I think we might all be experiencing the same issue: a compatibility issue in Windows 7 between hard drive and network controller or drivers. I've tried firmware updates of my entire board, wiping my drive and reinstalling from scratch. And yet the problem persists, which suggests it is an operating system error, as the hard drive checks out 100% physically. Additionally, the only time it does not occur is when in safe mode WITHOUT networking. With networking, there are spikes in disc access every so often and a huge flow of processes accessing the disc simultaneously that literally "stick" the disc, and physically jolting my computer unsticks it. Again, this has been tested for hours in a professional service environment, and without network access on, things are fine. As soon as there's network access available, the disc access occasionally cranks up to 100% and sticks everything. I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials, but this also happened under Norton, then McAfee. Again, this happened again after a complete wipe, so the likelihood of malware causing it seems low. I don't visit unsecure sites anyway, as far as I know. This, to me, narrows it down to a Windows 7 process that is somehow repeatedly corrupted, perhaps a corrupt .dll or driver, causing a conflict at the operating system level and temporary hard drive failure. I would encourage anyone who knows more about this stuff (which is probably most people!) to take a shot at this one, and I would encourage anyone else with a sticking hard drive in windows 7 64-bit to check on whether it occurs during safe mode without networking.

  Similar to this post, I'd like to change my proxy settings using a script. However, it fails. When I am behind the proxy, IE does not connect to the internet.
