  • Hudson build on URL token

    I configured a hudson instance and have created jobs. While creating builds, I was able to see this option "Trigger the build by accessing this URL + SecretTOKEN" option. Now, I am unable to see that for any new jobs I create. Am I missing some setting or a configuration? The only change I made was running the servlet container from Root to a regular user.

  • Why does Maven have such a bad rep?

    There is a lot of talk on the internet about how Maven is bad. I have been using some features of Maven for a few years now and the most important benefit in my view is the dependency management. Maven documentation is less than adequate, but generally when I need to accomplish something I figure it once and than it works (for example, I remember when I implemented signing the jars.) I don’t think that Maven is great, but it does solve some problems that without it would be a genuine pain. So, why does Maven has such a bad rep and what problems with Maven can I expect in the future? Maybe there are much better alternatives that I don't know about? (For example, I never looked Ivy in detail.) NOTE: This is not an attempt to cause an argument. It is an attempt to clear the FUD.

  • Resources for Customizing TFS Build 2010

    I am looking to create a way to build my Legacy Delphi 5 and 6 apps via TFS Build (using TFS 2010). I was fairly dangerous with the MSBuild way of doing things and I think I can still do that, but I would like to get into the Work Flow way of doing it. Are there any resources out there that discuss customizing a TFS Build via Windows Work Flow? Especially how to override the solution concept and how to compile and report errors.   • .NET StandardInput Sending Modifiers

    We have some legacy software which depends on sending keystrokes to a DOS window and then scraping the screen. I am trying to re-create the software by redirecting the input and output streams of the process directly to my application. This part I have managed fine using: _Process = new Process(); { _Process.StartInfo.FileName = APPLICATION; _Process.StartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = true; _Process.StartInfo.RedirectStandardInput = true; _Process.StartInfo.RedirectStandardError = true; _Process.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = false; _Process.StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = true; _Process.OutputDataReceived += new DataReceivedEventHandler(_Process_OutputDataReceived); _Process.ErrorDataReceived += new DataReceivedEventHandler(_Process_ErrorDataReceived); } My problem is I need to send some command modifiers such as Ctrl, ALT and Space as well as F1-12 to this process but am unsure how. I can send basic text and I receive response's fine. I just need to emulate these modifiers.

  • Winforms web browser control not firing document complete with AJAX web site.

    The VB.Net desktop app uses the IE browser control to navigate the web. When a normal page loads the document_complete event fires and I can read the resulting page and go from there. The issue I am having is that the page I am driving is written with AJAX, so the document complete event never fires. Furthermore, when you view the source of the page after it loaded a new portion via AJAX, it hasn't change. How are people handling this? What are my options?

  • Structure of NAnt build scripts and solution structure on build server

    We're in the process of streamlining/automating build, integration and unit testing as well as deployment. Our software is developed in Visual Studio where we have use both C# and VB.NET in our projects. A single project can be contained within multiple solutions (i.e. Utils project is used in both ProductA and ProductB solutions) For historical reasons our code repository isn't as well structured as one could have hoped for. E.g. Utils project might be located under ProductA solution (because that's were it was first used) but it was later deemed useful for productB development and merely just included into the solution of productB (but still located in a subdirectory of productA). I would like to use continous integration testing and have setup a CC.NET build server where I intend to use NAnt for creating the actual builds. Question 1: How should I structure my builds on the buildserver? Should I instruct CC.NET to retrieve all the projects for productB into a single library e.g. a file structure similar to -ProductB --Utils --BetterUtils --Data or should I opt for a filestructure similar to this -ProductA --Utils -ProductB --BetterUtils --Data and then just have the NAnt build scripts handle the references? Our references in VS doesn't match the actual location in the code repository so it's not possible today to just check-out productB solution and build it straight away (unfortunately). I hope this question makes sense? Question 2: Is it better to check out all the source code located in different projects into a single file folder (whilst retaining some kind of structure) and then build every thing at once or have multiple projects in CC.NET and then let the CC.NET server handle dependencies? Example: Should I have a seperate project in CC.NET for monitoring the automated build/test of Utils project when it's never released on it's own? Or should I just build/test it whilst building it as part of ProductB? I hope the above makes sense and that you can provide me with some arguments for using either option. We're nowhere near an ideal source code repository structure and I would prefer if I can resolve the lack of repository structure on the build server instead of having to clean up the structure of our repository. Switching away from VSS is (unfortunately) not an option. Right now our build consists of either deploying via VS clickonce or pressing F5 so just getting the build automated would be a huge step up for us. Thanks

  • How to setup a DotNetNuke Development Environment with Source Control?

    My team is developing a new DotNetNuke web application and would like to know what is recommended to setup a development environment with source control and automated builds? We would like to keep the DNN source code separate from our custom modules and extensions source code. The DotNetNuke Compiled Module template for Visual Studio wants us to store the source code in the DesktopModules directory of the DNN source code and output to the DNN source code bin directory. Is this the recommended structure? I would rather keep the files in different locations, but then it becomes more difficult to run and debug locally as it would require an install of the module for each change. Also, how should an automated build deploy any changes? How have others set this up? Is there a recommended best practice?

  • Automated fake mailbox

    Hello, i'm about to start the development of a new automated-email application. The idea is that customers (or other external users) send emails to a mailbox and then an automated process will read them, extract their information and insert it into some database. It's a requirement that the emails have an standard format in order to be parsed (standard subject, etc.). The obvious thing to do would be to set up a process that periodically pools an ordinary mailbox, through pop-3 for example, processing the messages it finds. However, it would be for me much nicer to be able to process the emails as they arrive. I was wondering then, is there any way to set up a process that acts as a fake email-box? do you know about any open-source implementation of something like that I can extend?     Is there any way to automate a opening files with open dialog box on Mac OS? The application asks user to open files with the standard open dialog box. But I need open files automatically. The idea is to write script or a small application which will click the button in the target application to open dialog box and then somehow select files which I needed.     I have a fairly large CSS file developed by my web designer. There are, of course, plenty of IDs, classes and tag properties assigned therein. Are there any tools to automatically generate HTML based on a CSS source file? For example: #basicInfoHead{ background:url(../images/leftHeaders.jpg) no-repeat; margin-left: 0px; width:185px; height:28px; } #basicInfoHead span{ float: left; } Would generate <div id=basicInfoHead><span>#basicInfoHead span</span></div> Etc etc. From there, I could preview the generated code in my browser, and see what each of the individual (primarily text) styles would look like.   • Why does PowerShell fail to build my .net solutions? ("file is being used by another process")

    I've written a PowerShell script to build several .net solutions one after the other. It simply makes several calls to csc.exe to build the .sln files. Almost every time I run the script one of the solutions fails to build and CSC.exe reports: error CS1606: Assembly signing failed; output may not be signed -- The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. This happens even though I've closed all instances of Visual Studio holding these solutions and I've none of their exes running on mu machine. A similar batch file that I've written works just fine. It's only PowerShell that complains about the file being used by another process. How can avoid having this happen? Are there any better examples out there of building .net solutions through PowerShell?

    Is there an open source project that can serve as a good example on how to use the maven site plugin to generate reports? I would prefer it to consist of many modules, possibly hierarchically structured use as many plugins as possible (surefire, jxr, pmd, findbugs, javadoc, checkstyle, you name it) the reports should be aggregated: if some tests fail you want to have a single page that shows all modules with failing tests, not only a gazillion individual pages to check include enterprisey stuff (WAR, EAR etc), but this is not so important. The idea is to have something where you can gather ideas on how it is done and what is possible.

    Using javascript, how can we auto insert the current DATE and TIME into a form input field. I'm building a "Problems" form to keep track of user submitted complaints about a certain service. I'm collecting as much info as possible. I want to save the staff here from having to manually enter the date and time each time they open the form. I am looking for a convenient way to be able to automate build-deploy-lanuch process. The process is: Package application & sign it Load it on the device Start debugging session in Eclipse With the newest version of BlackBerry plugin for Eclipse, step 1. is almost painless, but I would like to get rid of dialogs that I am missing some debug files. Step 2. and step 3. must be performed manually. Ideally I would like to turn it all into one script, Eclipse macro, whatever.... Has anyone tried something like this with any success?

  • Automating WebTrends analysis

    Every week I access server logs processed by WebTrends (for about 7 profiles) and copy ad clickthrough and visitor information into Excel spreadsheets. A lot of it is just accessing certain sections and finding the right title and then copying the unique visitor information. I tried using WebTrends' built-in query tool but that is really poorly done (only uses a drag-and-drop system instead of text-based) and it has a maximum number of parameters and maximum length of queries to query with. As far as I know, the tools in WebTrends are not suitable to my purpose of automating the entire web metrics gathering process. I've gotten access to the raw server logs, but it seems redundant to parse that given that they are already being processed by WebTrends. To me it seems very scriptable, but how would I go about doing that? Is screen-scraping an option?
