  • RIA: Manipulate DOM

    - by stephanos
I want to display a website embedded in my own site and modify the DOM (e.g. change a button's color/size), similar to what Firebug is capable of. I'm aware of the security issues that arise - my plan is to use this approach to do live website usability testing (A/B style). I'm not limited to any specific RIA framework (yet would prefer Flex) - but it has to work without installing anything (so no AIR). Cheers :-)

  • Back-to-back ajax long poll without a recursive callback function.

    - by Teddy
I'm trying to make long poll ajax calls, back to back. The problem with the current way I'm doing it is that I make each successive call from the callback function of the previous call. Is this a problem? Firebug doesn't show any of my ajax calls as completed, even thought the data is returned and the callback is executed. The recursive structure seems inefficient. Any ideas?

  • css footer position stick to bottom of browser?

    - by judi
Hi css experts I'm having a problem with my site http://artygirl.co.uk/pixie/about/ I can't seem to get the footer to automatically stick to the bottom of the browser, and show the rest of my background. Is there a solution better than using position:fixed or absolute? I think there are possibly other styles over-riding some tests I do in firebug. Thanks for your help Regards Judi

    - by FlySwat
I'm looking for a jQuery plugin or a standalone script that will take a javascript object and create a navigatable tree like the FireBug plug in does. Does this exist, or will I need to write one? Googling hasn't found much yet.

  • Javascript obfuscation and extreme situation in production solving

    - by faya
Hello, I have a few questions regarding JavaScript obfuscation on client side. First question: What is the best tool or best three tools which ones you could suggest for this operation? Second question: How developers should debug such code (in example with firebug) when extreme situation appears in the production if the code is obfuscated? P.S. - I know that it's bad practice to debug in production, but we had some emergencies and experienced sometimes such situations. Thanks for any help!

  • How to correctly cache images

    - by James Simpson
I just installed Google's Page Speed plugin to Firebug, and everything looks good except for caching. I have set headers to cache my JS and CSS files, but it says the images aren't being cached. How can I make sure the images get cached for 30 days? These are static images, so I can't just add the headers with PHP like I did with the other files.

  • Assigning document.getElementById to another function

    - by Andreas Grech
I am trying to do the following in JavaScript: var gete = document.getElementById; But I am getting the following error (From FireBug's Console): uncaught exception: [Exception... "Illegal operation on WrappedNative prototype object" nsresult: "0x8057000c (NS_ERROR_XPC_BAD_OP_ON_WN_PROTO)" location: "JS frame :: http://localhost:8080/im_ass1/ :: anonymous :: line 15" data: no] Now obviously I can wrap the function as follows: var gete = function (id) { return document.getElementById(id); }; But what is the reason I'm getting the above exception when assigning the function to another name?

  • How to get JMeter to request gzipped content?

    - by Bill Paetzke
My website serves gzipped content. I verified with Firebug and YSlow. However, JMeter does not request the gzipped content. Therefore, it gets all uncompressed content. As a result, my test cases take much longer (6-10x longer) than they do in reality. How can I make JMeter request gzipped content from a website? FYI, I am using the latest stable build: JMeter 2.3.4 r785646.

  • Facebook JS SDK FB.logout() doesn't terminate user session

    - by Casey Flynn
I'm attempting to log a user out of facebook with the Facebook JS SDK, however calling: FB.logout(function(response){ console.log(response); }); returns: response.status == "connected" And only after refreshing the page does the SDK realize that the session has ended. Anyone know what could be causing this behavior? This code previously worked in my application and has recently started behaving this way. Another example using FireBug:

  • Class not overwriting with addClass

    - by scatteredbomb
    I'm using jQuery's addClass to add a class to an tab so when clicked it'll change the class so it's obvious the tab is highlighted. My HTML <div id="mainNav"> <ul> <li id="LinktheBand" onclick="nav('theBand')">The Band</li> <li id="linkTheMusic" onclick="nav('theMusic')">The Music</li> My CSS #mainNav li { float:left; margin-right:5px; color:white; font-family:Tahoma; font-weight:bold; padding: 10px 8px 0px 8px; background:url('../images/transparent-65.png'); height:40px; height: 25px !important; border:1px solid #000; } #mainNav li:hover { float:left; margin-right:5px; color:white; font-family:Tahoma; font-weight:bold; padding: 10px 8px 0px 8px; background: #660000; height:40px; height: 25px !important; border:1px solid #660000; } .mainNavSelected { float:left; margin-right:5px; color:white; font-family:Tahoma; font-weight:bold; padding: 10px 8px 0px 8px; background: #660000; height:40px; height: 25px !important; border:1px solid #660000; } My Javascript function nav(a) { $('#'+a).show(); $('#Link'+a).addClass('mainNavSelected'); } This works properly, I check firebug and can see the class="mainNavSelected" is added, but the list element doesn't take any properties of the new class. Firebug lists all the class items for mainNavSelected, but has them all crossed out. What am i missing to replace the class of this element?

  • How to make Google Chrome JavaScript console persistent?

    - by zladuric
Since I'm building a dynamic site, I need to track the changes between pages, ie. Ajax calls, POST, GET stuff and similar stuff. I'm looking for the same functionality like in Firebug (where you can enable "persistent" and the console is not cleared every time you reload a page or submit a form. So, my questions is: is there a way to make Google Chrome JavaScript console persistent? (And if yes, how?)

  • Agile Uploader error code 2101?

    - by adamwstl
I'm trying to install Agile Uploader, but keep running into an error code 2101 (no other message besides that.) Any idea what error code "2101" means? Whenever I try to submit/upload (when I call agileUploaderSubmit()), nothing seems to happen and with Firebug mode on, all the log prints out is that code. I can't find anything that tells me what it means. Thanks

  • Empty "for" loop in Facebook ajax

    - by celticpride
While surfing facebook and using the Firebug network debugger I noticed that facebook's AJAX responses all start with an empty for loop. Example: for(;;);{...} Does anyone know why this is done? I assume it's to prevent some sort of XSS attack but I don't totally understand. Thanks!

  • Greasemonkey is getting an empty document.body on select Google pages.

    - by Brock Adams
    Hi, I have a Greasemonkey script that processes Google search results. But it's failing in a few instances, when xpath searches (and document body) appear to be empty. Running the code in Firebug's console works every time. It only fails in a Greasemonkey script. Greasemonkey sees an empty document.body. I've boiled the problem down to a test, greasemonkey script, below. I'm using Firefox 3.5.9 and Greasemonkey 0.8.20100408.6 (but earlier versions had the same problem). Problem: Greasemonkey sees an empty document.body. Recipe to Duplicate: Install the Greasemonkey script. Open a new tab or window. Navigate to Google.com (http://www.google.com/). Search on a simple term like "cats". Check Firefox's Error console (Ctrl-shift-J) or Firebug's console. The script will report that document body is empty. Hit refresh. The script will show a good result (document body found). Note that the failure only reliably appears on Google results obtained this way, and on a new tab/window. Turn javascript off globally (javascript.enabled set to false in about:config). Repeat steps 2 thru 5. Only now the Greasemonkey script will work. It seems that Google javascript is killing the DOM tree for greasemonkey, somehow. I've tried a time-delayed retest and even a programmatic refresh; the script still fails to see the document body. Test Script: // // ==UserScript== // @name TROUBLESHOOTING 2 snippets // @namespace http://www.google.com/ // @description For code that has funky misfires and defies standard debugging. // @include http://*/* // ==/UserScript== // function LocalMain (sTitle) { var sUserMessage = ''; //var sRawHtml = unsafeWindow.document.body.innerHTML; //-- unsafeWindow makes no difference. var sRawHtml = document.body.innerHTML; if (sRawHtml) { sRawHtml = sRawHtml.replace (/^\s\s*/, ''). substr (0, 60); sUserMessage = sTitle + ', Doc body = ' + sRawHtml + ' ...'; } else { sUserMessage = sTitle + ', Document body seems empty!'; } if (typeof (console) != "undefined") { console.log (sUserMessage); } else { if (typeof (GM_log) != "undefined") GM_log (sUserMessage); else if (!sRawHtml) alert (sUserMessage); } } LocalMain ('Preload'); window.addEventListener ("load", function() {LocalMain ('After load');}, false);
