    Since Windows updates typically create restore points, which delete older versions. If you have explicitly created a known GOOD restore point, is there a way to save it somewhere? The problem happens when opening system restore only to discover 32 Windows updates deleted what you need. Can a system restore be exported somewhere?

    Hello, I am looking for the best A/B/G/N dual band (simultaneous) router or access point that can be flashed with community firmware like dd-wrt or openwrt. In the past I have used the WRT54G series from Linksys with great success as access points and bridges. The WRT610N looks nice but I'm not sure how well the community firmwares support it. I am open to any manufacturer and any input or experience would be appreciated.

[Phone Model: Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo V, Android v2.3; Wifi accespoint: Belkin G] How can i check my suspicion? Or What are the ways i could get over them?     I've edited a pps file which was made with the 2003 version and saved also as compatible with Power Point 97-2003 but a friend a mine can't see the last version of the file. The original file can be seen by my computer friend. What can I do to make the new version of the pps file to be viewable on the computer of my friend? Any tips?     I setup an wireless AP (linksys wifi router) to have no dhcp and point to the main router as the default gateway. I also set it up to obtain a ip from the network but when i go to my main router and look for it i don't see any ip's that it could be If i use net stumbler i can see the mac address of the wifi portion of it but Im at a loss how to get into the web console of this router any ideas on how to "find" this router?

  • Calculating all distances between one point and a group of points efficiently in R

    Hi, First of all, I am new to R (I started yesterday). I have two groups of points, data and centers, the first one of size n and the second of size K (for instance, n = 3823 and K = 10), and for each i in the first set, I need to find j in the second with the minimum distance. My idea is simple: for each i, let dist[j] be the distance between i and j, I only need to use which.min(dist) to find what I am looking for. Each point is an array of 64 doubles, so > dim(data) [1] 3823 64 > dim(centers) [1] 10 64 I have tried with for (i in 1:n) { for (j in 1:K) { d[j] <- sqrt(sum((centers[j,] - data[i,])^2)) } S[i] <- which.min(d) } which is extremely slow (with n = 200, it takes more than 40s!!). The fastest solution that I wrote is distance <- function(point, group) { return(dist(t(array(c(point, t(group)), dim=c(ncol(group), 1+nrow(group)))))[1:nrow(group)]) } for (i in 1:n) { d <- distance(data[i,], centers) which.min(d) } Even if it does a lot of computation that I don't use (because dist(m) computes the distance between all rows of m), it is way more faster than the other one (can anyone explain why?), but it is not fast enough for what I need, because it will not be used only once. And also, the distance code is very ugly. I tried to replace it with distance <- function(point, group) { return (dist(rbind(point,group))[1:nrow(group)]) } but this seems to be twice slower. I also tried to use dist for each pair, but it is also slower. I don't know what to do now. It seems like I am doing something very wrong. Any idea on how to do this more efficiently? ps: I need this to implement k-means by hand (and I need to do it, it is part of an assignment). I believe I will only need Euclidian distance, but I am not yet sure, so I will prefer to have some code where the distance computation can be replaced easily. stats::kmeans do all computation in less than one second.

    Hi all: This is uni homework so sorry about :my password protected url Please enter usersame as "uts" and password as "10479475", without the wrapper quotes. It it almost completed, please follow simple steps to see where my problem dwells: step1: click on any continent highlighted on world map; step2: click on any city marked on continent map; step3: enter quantity ranging from 1 to 6 into the upper-right table; step4 : there you go, in the table below, once row is equal or greater than 3, then the size of table starts to "overlap" on top of the footer section and continues to grow, which is not what I want. I want to achieve the effect that the table size has a limited max-height, so once actual height exceeds the threshold, then I can have a vertical scroll bar so to "stack up" my table and not to break the overall structure. It turns out that my lazy initial design now gets myself stuck in a problem... Any suggestion and hint on how to get this?

    I found this Q&A (http://superuser.com/questions/148849/backup-mounted-drive-of-an-image-in-time-machine) and this prompted me to ask the following question: I have two disk images which are scripted to be mounted on login. These two disk images are always mounted to the same location. These two disk images are encrypted TrueCrypt volumes. Time Machine (TM) will only back up the disk images the first time they are mounted, but not after that. As I modify documents within the volumes throughout the day, the modified timestamps are adjusted properly. However, TM does not back them up. TM never backs up the mount points which are two folders within my home directory. Any ideas as to why neither the mount point or the image files are backed up? Do the image files have to be closed (unmounted) after being modified for TM to back them up? Thanks, Chris

  • Wireless Network Issue, Disconnecting Randomly From Network

    I'm having an odd problem with my wireless network. Here is the background information: Server (Windows Server 2008) 1 to 10 end user machines connecting to the network Layer 3 Access Point (Asus WL-330 gE) connected to ethernet of Server and all machines connect to the network via the AP The end user machines get a connection to the server with no problems initially. But then connections are randomly lost throughout the day to the server/network. The wireless NICs of the machines still see the wireless network but are unable to connect to it. Then after some time the connection is regained automatically. I initially thought there was a problem with this particular AP, but then I took the same make/model AP out of storage and still ran into the problem. Any ideas what could be causing this??? Very confusing that the wireless nics on the end user machines can still see the network but not connect, and that the connections are randomly lost/gained. Thanks in advance!

    I managed my company's servers and I need to know if load spiked at 3am on the web or mysql server, what processes were active in apache or what queries were going on in mysql at that point in time and maybe any other information that will help me. I know all of that is in log files all over and its literally a PITA to look it all up and correlate data. isnt there 1 solution thats been invented. i know we have pingdom to monitor uptime and responsiveness. like if it has taken 30 seconds to load a page or an error was given by apache or php or mysql to the browser, i want to know that and what mysql processes were running at the time, the apache full status and maybe top output also. stuff like that also would be looking for a SAAS like cloudkick, something i dont have to spend an entire month of work hours setting up when we can pay for something cheaper.

  • Compression algorithm for IEEE-754 data

    Anyone have a recommendation on a good compression algorithm that works well with double precision floating point values? We have found that the binary representation of floating point values results in very poor compression rates with common compression programs (e.g. Zip, RAR, 7-Zip etc). The data we need to compress is a one dimensional array of 8-byte values sorted in monotonically increasing order. The values represent temperatures in Kelvin with a span typically under of 100 degrees. The number of values ranges from a few hundred to at most 64K. Clarifications All values in the array are distinct, though repetition does exist at the byte level due to the way floating point values are represented. A lossless algorithm is desired since this is scientific data. Conversion to a fixed point representation with sufficient precision (~5 decimals) might be acceptable provided there is a significant improvement in storage efficiency.   • Share laptop Wi-Fi with router set up as access point via ethernet cables

    I have an ADSL modem which serves as a wireless router. There's a laptop connected to it through cable. On the other room I have a laptop which is connected through the router wirelessly. Since I have other appliances that need to get connected but are not Wi-Fi capable I have another Wi-Fi router. How can I share the second laptop's Wi-Fi with the second router so that the router can then serve as an access point to give internet to my other appliances through ethernet cables? I want something like this: INTERNETMODEM (WIFI)LAPTOP 1 (WIFI)LAPTOP 2 (WIFI)Router 2 (ETHERNET)DREAMBOX & WDTV What I've tried so far is opened the admin interface of router 2 then set static IP 192.168.100.13 and disabled the DHCP. The DHCP of the main router starts with 192.168.100.1 then I hooked up router 2 with the laptop 2 through Cat5 cable but for some reason it's not working.
