• How to approach local database management via Flex/Air App

  I am planning on using Flash Builder 4/Flex to write an AIR application which is primarily based around recording, storing and analyzing data. I'll be creating charts etc that need to update in almost real time. It's essential to me that the application be able to function without an internet connection so I need a local database of some variety, but I would also eventually like to build in online synchronization of the data where either database can be update each other based on newer information. Moreover, some type of encryption would definitely be welcome, and speed is a large concern With all that in mind, what is my best approach to try and avoid headaches down the road?

• Set height of Flex Accordion to height of tallest child

  By default the height of an Flex Accordion container is the height of the initially selected child. I'd like to be able to set the height to the tallest child so that no resizing or scrolling is necessary when other children are selected. I do not want to use the resizeToContent property. I want the size of the container to stay constant no matter what child is selected. My current thought is to extend the accordion class setting the creation policy to "all" and then override the measure function to loop through all the children and find the tallest one and use that for the height. This seems a little kludgy though, so I'd like to know if there is a better approach. Ultimately my question is: is there a way to set the size of an accordion container such that the container never resizes and scoll bars are never necessary to display any of the children?

• Drop duplicated axis label in Flex Chart

  Hi, All. I use LineChart in Flex with horizontal category axis and I need drop duplicated category label on the chart. The data I use are like that: {Product: "C1", Store: "S1", Profit: "1500}, {Product: "C2", Store: "S1", Profit: "1000}, {Product: "C3", Store: "S2", Profit: "800}, {Product: "C4", Store: "S2", Profit: "1200}, {Product: "C5", Store: "S3", Profit: "1800} Beacuse I set horizontalAxis.categoryField = "Store" , the chart show label "S1,S1,S2,S2,S3" on ths axes. However, both C1 and C2 data point group on the second "S1" category (as same as C3,C4 on second S2). If I accept group data point on the same x-poistion, is there any idea to drop duplicated label?

  Hello, just a quickie (or maybe not:] ): Is it possible to get somehow list of running applications/processes and, while running in background, check which process is active? Additionally - if somehow, the answer was yes, is it possible to react for change of active window / application react just as if it was Event, or bind to it custom event (e.g. Event.SystemActiveAppChange)? Thank you for answers as well as pointers. EDIT: Due to probable missunderstanding, I mean local applications - on your win/mac/linux machine - I would like to (in process of learning of language) track what apps I use the most, make a little graph maybe? • Google maps event problem with flex actionscript

  I am able to render a google map on a flex canvas. I create the map using the code below and then place markers on it in the onMapReady method (not shown) var map:com.google.maps.Map=new com.google.maps.Map(); map.id="map"; map.key="bla bla"; _mapCanvas.addChild(map); map.addEventListener(MapEvent.MAP_READY,onMapReady); It all works fine. However, if I remove the map and then set _mapCanvas to null, then run exactly the same code again, the onMapReady event does not fire. It is weird, but once a map has been created and deleted, the onMapReady event never seems to fire again. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks.

• How to get Flex app to load quicker?

  We've got an app written in Flex that displays data from our app. The .swf file is only 427kb, but it takes a full five seconds to load in Firefox. This is a headache for our users because they need to access the page that contains the app frequently. (The app displays documents, and it's really slow to march through a list of them). I've confirmed that it's not a slow web server problem. The .swf appears to be cached in the browser. Firebug reports that every time the web page accesses the .swf, the app server returns a "304 Not Modified" response, meaning that the load time from the server is almost zero. Is there anything we can do to debug this issue? Or is the Flash player just slow?

However, when I put the listItemRendererFunction into a class and change to the following: itemRendererFunction="controller.listItemRendererFunction" in the List component. If I run the application, I get the " Error #1009". Please advice how to fix it.

• Compile Flex application without debug? Optimisation options for flex compiler?

  I have created a simple test application with the following code var i : int; for (i=0; i<3000000; i++){ trace(i); } When I run the application, it's very slow to load, which means the "trace" is running. I check the flash player by right-clicking, the debugger option is not enable. So I wonder if there is an option to put in compiler to exclude the trace. Otherwise, I have to remove manually all the trace in the program. Are there any other options of compiler to optimize the flex application in a maximum way? Thanks

  Hello Community, I need to send data from an Air application, using a certificate. This certificate is to be provided by the user through a USB Key. I've got a lot of questions regarding this. Is it possible to do what I'm looking for? If yes, is it possible to do that only with the Flex/Air sdk or should I use Java or some other language to load the certificate?   I'm building a slide-show like application in Flex and I'm trying to load images dynamically. The images are in a folder outside the application folder. This is the folder structure: /Bildvisare-debug/ Bildvisare.html Bildvisare.swf /Images/ 01_02_01_01_B.jpg 01_02_01_01_T.JPG I'm reading the image names from an XML file and get them with a path of ../Images/01_03_01_01_B.jpg. In my mxml-file I've got an SWFLoader named picture and I try to load the images with the following code: this.picture.source = images[currentImg]; //E.g. ../Images/01_03_01_01_B.jpg this.picture.load(); The problem is that the images never show up, I only get the icon for a missing image. Can anyone help?

  I know this is probably a very simple question, but can someone please walk me through how to take what a user inputs into a s:TextInput and use that as a variable in a JSON data request? Basically, I want to have a user enter a search term, like "math" and then have that placed into a variable so I can use it in a JSON request. Something like public var q:String, except that my search box (and hence user input) is on another "view" of the application. I've just started with Flex Mobile applications and I might be way out of my league. Does anyone know how to do this?

  I'm trying to create an actionscript class to serve as a data model for my Flex app. I already have a formatted XML file to read from, and when I was simply declaring the data service in my MXML app I used this code inside the declarations: I'm now trying to create a model class and can't seem to get the same functionality. I've tried importing mx.rpc.http.HTTPService but i think this is different. And using the XML class doesn't seem to allow the ability to define a source url. I'm assuming that I am able to declare a public var inside my class that will read this XML source file as I had done in the main app. If this is possible, how do I do it?

• Updating external Flex components from an action

  Hello, I'm new to Flex and am having trouble understanding Events. I think Events are what I want to use for my situation. I have 2 components, addUser.mxml and listUsers.mxml. I access these from a ViewStack in my main application. When I load listUsers.mxml it shows a list of current users in a datagrid via a HTTPService call. When I add a user using the form on addUser.mxml I would like the datagrid in listUsers.mxml to refresh when I return to that view to show the new user. I've tried several different things with addEventListener and dispatchEvent but can't seem to get it working. Can someone help me with this logic?

• Flex 3 : UIComponent.addChild issue

  Hello SOers, I've run into a nice problem with the UIComponent.addChild(...) function. First of all, I'm using ESRI Api for Flex. In this API you find a class called Graphic that inherits UIComponent. Basically, I'm trying to add, as a child, a Graphic 'g' to another graphic 'parent'. So that when you delete the 'parent' graphic the 'g' graphic deletes as well. private function writeMeasurements(parent:Graphic):void { var g:Graphic; if(parent.geometry.extent != null) g = new Graphic(parent.geometry.extent.center); else g = new Graphic(parent.geometry); g.initialize(); g.name = UIDUtil.createUID(); g.symbol = txtSym; graphicsLayer.add(g); parent.addChild(g); } graphicsLayer class This code actually runs pretty fine. The problem is after... it's like if the addChild function was asynchronious. • Connecting to a Ghost User in Flex RTMFP

  I have a simple Flex RTMFP P2P video app in the same mold as the Adobe Cirrus VideoPhone Sample application. A problem I've been encountering in developing this app (the same problem occurs in the sample) is when you try to connect to a ghost Stratus instance i.e you try to call someone whose Stratus id is in the database but who is no longer on the page. So here's an example of what I mean: Let's say you go to the Adobe Stratus sample and connect as Dan. Then open up a new tab, go to the sample again and connect as Fred. If from this point, you (as Fred) call Dan everything will work fine. But, if you close the tab in which you connected as Dan, and then from the Fred tab try to connect to Dan the program will just hang. I would have thought there would be a NetStream event that would be triggered if you tried to connect to a Stratus instance that is not longer online but I can't seem to find anything besides NetStream.Connect.Rejected which doesn't seem to be called. Any help is much appreciated!

• Manual drag-drop operations in Flex

  This is a two-part problem: A) I'm implementing several irregular drag-drop operations in Flex (e.g. DataGrid ItemRenderer into Tree). My preference was modifying DragManager operations to meet my needs, and in fact using DragManager allows me to do everything I need, but I'm having serious issues with performance. For example, dragging anything over a many-columned DataGrid, whether the drag was initiated with DragManager.doDrag, or just using native ListBase drag-drop functionality, slows the drag movement to a crawl. Even if the DataGrid is disabled/ not listenening for any move/drag events, this happens. On the other hand, if the drag is initiated by calling .startDrag() on the Sprite, the drag is smooth and performs great over DataGrids and everything else. So part A would be: Is there a reason why .startDrag() operations work so well, while drags initiated through DragManager.doDrag suffer so badly when over certain components? B) If indeed the solution is to handle drag-drops using .startDrag(), how would I go about determining what component the mouse is over when the drag is released? In my example, my dragged object is brought up to the top level of the display list, and so is being moved around in stage coordinates. mouseMove, mouseOver events don't fire on the components I'm dragging over because the mouse is constantly over the dragged component, so I would need some sort of stage.coordinate - visibleComponentAtThatCoordinate conversion.
