• IIS7 unchecked in windows component list yet when go to http://localhost still directs me to IIS7. How to get to Apache?

  IIS7 was turned off on my Windows 7 system, Under control panel services and applications no web publishing appears. Have Apache, et. al. installed with Wampserver. Yet when I try to access the local server astill get directed to IIS7 welcome page. After turning off IIS7 restarted computer, no help, eliminated history, no help, deleted IIS7 folders, no help. It is hiding somewhere and I can not find it. Any suggestions/help would be appreciated. Ed

  Thank you for your comments guys & now that CharlieRB has suggested "Match entire cell contents" I'll give it a better go. No I do not expect people to do my work for me & I'm sorry if it came over that way - just didn't know where to start. Would love some help please, I've limited VBA & function knowledge & I'm not sure where to start. If someone can point me in the right direction it would be appreciated. I have a list of email addresses on sheet "B" col A (but I could put them on sheet A if it would make it easier / faster) that I want deleted from sheet "A" col D (may be 2 or more occurences of the same email). I can't just record a find & delete macro and edit because for example [email protected] will also pick up [email protected] which I may not want deleted. thanks very much Peta

I would like it to: Be fast Ensure data integrity Not require opening ports in either end's firewall Be free Not broadcast the file's existence to everyone on the Internet I've looked a several technologies and nothing seems to fit: Gnutella, BitTorrent, et al. satisfies 1, 2 and 4 JetBytes... 1, 3, 4 and 5 Yahoo Messenger, AIM, etc. 3, 4 and 5 FTP, SFTP... 1?, 4 and 5 rsync... 1, 2, 4 and 5 For a file this size speed and data integrity are the most important. No one wants a 20 GB file to fail a MD5 check after spending two days downloading it. Is there anything that meets all these requirements?

• MySQL dump, output each table row on a new line whilst using --extended-insert

  I'm having an issue, where for ease of use, I'd like to be able to format a command line MySQL dump so that each row of a given table is on a new line when using the --extended-insert option. Usually when using --extended-insert, every row of a given table is outputted on one line, and as far as I am aware there's no way to change this, other than post-processing the dump with perl or such like. The format I'm looking for is: -- -- Dumping data for table `ww_tbCountry` -- INSERT INTO `ww_tbCountry` (`iCountryId_PK`, `vCountryName`, `vShortName`, `iSortFlag`, `fTax`, `vCountryCode`, `vSageTaxCode`) VALUES (22, 'Albania', 'AL', 1, 0.00, '8', 'T9'), (33, 'Austria', 'AT', 1, 15.00, '40', 'T9'), (40, 'Belarus', 'BY', 1, 0.00, '112', 'T9'), (41, 'Belgium', 'BE', 1, 15.00, '56', 'T9'), (51, 'Bulgaria', 'BG', 1, 15.00, '100', 'T9' However, when I dump a database using Phpmyadmin, using --extended-insert, each row is dumped on a new line (as shown by the example above). • Choosing a home network layout

  I have a server, 4 PC's, a network printer, a switch and an ADSL modem. Currently the server runs Red Hat 9 and sits between the internet and the other PCs like in http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/12/Sample-network-diagram.png I have bought a new server PC to replace the old one, and I plan to install Fedora Core linux on it. The server acts as web and file server. The PCs all run Windows. Alternatively, I could connect the new server and all PCs to the switch, and connect the switch to the modem. (Sorry, couldn't find an image.) What are the pros and cons of these network layouts? Eg. in terms of reliability, security and flexibility? I am not a Linux guru but know of (and am not afraid of) iptables, dhcpd et al. Thank you for any tips, pointers and links.

  One of my clients is a small school district in Texas. Like any school, they often have problems with network'd peripherals such as printers, et al. It would be nice to be able to simply "listen" to what the printer and PC are saying to each other (or not saying more importantly)... The problem is that I can't find old-style "hubs" anymore, and even if I could, it's not a long-term solution. All of the devices that I have found to replicate the purpose of a simple hub are either $100+ or are difficult to throw into a networking tool kit (aka my backpack)... Now that hubs are dead, what's the new low-cost standard for simple packet capture in the networking world?

• What is Paging in memory management?

  I was just reading Operating System Principles by Silberschatz et al when I came across paging in memory management.I'm slightly confused about it. It states that Physical Memory(I assume it's RAM) is divided into frames, and logical memory is divided into pages. CPU generates logical addresses containing page number and an offset. This page number is used to retrieve the frame number from a page table which gives the base address so the physical address is calculated as base+offset. My question is: is the page table maintained for every process? I logically think that the answer would be yes as every process will need to map its own pages to frames. I may be wrong. Please clarify. Also: paging and segmentation(where 'holes' are created in memory) are two totally different techniques that are not used in combination. Correct?

• How can I redirect HTTPS(S) traffic to anothr gateway?

  I have a network like 192.168.0.0/15 with the default gateway set to 192.168.0.1. Al the workstations of the network use this gateway for all kind of accesses to the Internet. Now I am testing a new Internet connection with another provider and for this I am using a second gateway on the same subnet with 192.168.0.2 as IP address. I want to redirect only HTTP and HTTPS traffic to this second gateway without touching the address of the default gateway set inside every workstation. How can I accomplish this task? What I have to change inside the first's gateway firewall configuration or routes? I tried with a dnat like DNAT loc:192.168.0.1 loc:192.168.0.2 tcp 80 but nothing worked. I use Shorewall for simplicity in configuration but I can understand even theorical answers which I will try to adapt to my case

• Couchdb failing test suite on Linux

  Hi I've been trying to install CouchDB on my webfusion virtual server. I followed the latest instructions from the webfusion forum (see: http://forum.webfaction.com/viewtopic.php?id=2355 ) and it runs (just) Futon is very sluggish and I get 502 errors. Anyway when I run the test suite it fails on multiple tests. Webfaction support have been great but don't have erlang experience to interpret the error logs. Can anyone help me know what might be wrong? Test suite result: basics, all_docs, attachments, attachments_multipart, attachment_names, compact, config, conflicts, delayed_commits, design_docs, design_options all the errors are: Exception raised: {"error":"unknown","reason":"\u000d\u000a502 Bad Gateway\u000d\u000a\u000d\u000a<\h1502 Bad Gateway\u000d\u000a nginx\u000d\u000a\u000d\u000a\u000d\u000a"} except for 'compact; which also has: Assertion failed: xhr.responseText == "This is a base64 encoded text" Assertion failed: xhr.getResponseHeader("Content-Type") == "text/plain" I'm stumped. • How to get Apache to follow symlink instead of downloading it?

  I am just using the standard apache config file which mentions that it follows symlinks, but when I hit the url http://localhost/test it downloads the symlink file instead of following it. What config do I need to change to get apache to follow the symlink instead of downloading it? • Cannot install Java 7 update 9 32-bit on Win 7 64

  As there were several versons of Java on my laptop, I decided to uninstall them all and reinstall only the current version. I uninstalled all 64-bit and 32-bit versions using Revo Uninstaller. After dowloading the current versions, when attempting to install them, I get a message that both the 64-bit and 32-bit versions cannot be installed as they are already installed. Both the Windows 7 Programs and Features and Revo show no Java installed at al. I then tried the Microsoft Fixit for install and uninstall issues (KB 2438651). I was then able to install the 64-bit version, but continued to have the issue with the 32-bit version. I ran CCleaner, Glary Utilities and Auslogics Registry Cleaner, and noticed Java keys that were to be uninstalled. After cleaning the registry, I attemped to install the 32-bit version of Java once more, to no avail. Any suggestions on how to rectify this problem? Thank you for any guidance you can provide.

• Shrink NTFS Partition Windows 2003

  We have an iSCSI target provided by a CentOS server attached to a Windows Server 2003 Standard box, formatted in NTFS. My question is this - I know we can resize the backend block device fine (LVM et al.), however how do you tell Windows the NTFS filesystem has shrunk afterwards? [note we want to shrink]. I'm imagining a world of pain if it's not done correctly! This is a production box, so ideally we'd like the process to keep the drive mounted and online during the process, but downtime can be scheduled if need be. 90% of what I've found on the subject so far basically involves using the 'ntfsresize' command in Linux to do the job -- but surely Windows can do this itself? • Why don't the keyboard shortcuts (e.g. hotkeys like Ctrl-C) work in a SharePoint rich-text field?

  I use SharePoint 2010 via Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP. I have a standard input mask for a task consisting of text fields, rich-text fields et al. In text fields, I can use keyboard shortcuts (a.k.a. hotkeys) for editing (Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V) and formatting (Ctrl-B/Ctrl-I), but in the richtext field, none of them work. If I click on the appropriate button, however, the expected function is executed properly - but that is a tedious workaround. What could be the cause? Could it be that the Ctrl key is not recognized at all? (BTW: The problem is not reproducible in Firefox, because it doesn't show the rich-text controls at all. Why is another question.)

• Paying great programmers more than average programmers

  It's fairly well recognized that some programmers are up to 10 times more productive than others. Joel mentions this topic on his blog. There is a whole blog devoted to the idea of the "10x productive programmer". In years since the original study, the general finding that "There are order-of-magnitude differences among programmers" has been confirmed by many other studies of professional programmers (Curtis 1981, Mills 1983, DeMarco and Lister 1985, Curtis et al. 1986, Card 1987, Boehm and Papaccio 1988, Valett and McGarry 1989, Boehm et al 2000). Fred Brooks mentions the wide range in the quality of designers in his "No Silver Bullet" article, The differences are not minor--they are rather like the differences between Salieri and Mozart. Study after study shows that the very best designers produce structures that are faster, smaller, simpler, cleaner, and produced with less effort. The differences between the great and the average approach an order of magnitude. The study that Brooks cites is: H. Sackman, W.J. Erikson, and E.E. Grant, "Exploratory Experimental Studies Comparing Online and Offline Programming Performance," Communications of the ACM, Vol. 11, No. 1 (January 1968), pp. 3-11. The way programmers are paid by employers these days makes it almost impossible to pay the great programmers a large multiple of what the entry-level salary is. When the starting salary for a just-graduated entry-level programmer, we'll call him Asok (From Dilbert), is $40K, even if the top programmer, we'll call him Linus, makes $120K that is only a multiple of 3. I'd be willing to be that Linus does much more than 3 times what Asok does, so why wouldn't we expect him to get paid more as well? Here is a quote from Stroustrup: "The companies are complaining because they are hurting. They can't produce quality products as cheaply, as reliably, and as quickly as they would like. They correctly see a shortage of good developers as a part of the problem. What they generally don't see is that inserting a good developer into a culture designed to constrain semi-skilled programmers from doing harm is pointless because the rules/culture will constrain the new developer from doing anything significantly new and better." This leads to two questions. I'm excluding self-employed programmers and contractors. If you disagree that's fine but please include your rationale. It might be that the self-employed or contract programmers are where you find the top-10 earners, but please provide a explanation/story/rationale along with any anecdotes. [EDIT] I thought up some other areas in which talent/ability affects pay. Financial traders (commodities, stock, derivatives, etc.) designers (fashion, interior decorators, architects, etc.) professionals (doctor, lawyer, accountant, etc.) sales Questions: Why aren't the top 1% of programmers paid like A-list movie stars? What would the industry be like if we did pay the "Smart and gets things done" programmers 6, 8, or 10 times what an intern makes? [Footnote: I posted this question after submitting it to the Stackoverflow podcast. It was included in episode 77 and I've written more about it as a Codewright's Tale post 'Of Rockstars and Bricklayers'] Epilogue: It's probably unfair to exclude contractors and the self-employed. One aspect of the highest earners in other fields is that they are free-agents. The competition for their skills is what drives up their earning power. This means they can not be interchangeable or otherwise treated as a plug-and-play resource. I liked the example in one answer of a major league baseball team trying to field two first-basemen. Also, something that Joel mentioned in the Stackoverflow podcast (#77). There are natural dynamics to shrink any extreme performance/pay ranges between the highs and lows. One is the peer pressure of organizations to pay within a given range, another is the likelyhood that the high performer will realize their undercompensation and seek greener pastures.

• Debugging Silverlight crash

  I am trying to debug an IE 8 crash caused by a Silverlight application. I managed to find some articles on how to do a memory dump when a process crashes. I loaded the dump in windbg and ran !analyze -v. Below is the result. I am stuck at what further steps I can take to figure out what module or library that is running in Silverlight is causing the crash. So all I have right now is the crash in IE is caused by an Access violation (attempt to execute non-executable address) and from what is in the stack trace that some animation is running in Silverlight.   Hi everybody I need to add multiple user controls to a panel for further editing of the contained data. After a bit of research, i had to come to the conclusion that the event is fired before the controls are initialized... Is there any way to prevent such behavior / to override the page lifecycle somehow? I cannot initialize the user controls in the page's Init-event, because i have to access the Session-Store (not initialized in Page_Init). Any advice is welcome... EDIT: Since we hold all criteria informations in the storage backend (including the count of criteria) and that store uses the userid from the session, we cannot use Page_Init... just for clarification EDIT #2: I managed to get past some of the problems. Since i'm now using simple types, im able to bind all the data declaratively (using a repeater with a simple ItemTemplate). It is bound to the control, they are rendered in correct fashion. On Postback, all the data is rebound to the user control, data is available in the OnDataBinding and OnLoad events, everything looks fine. But as soon it enters the real event (bound to the button control of the user control), all field values are lost somehow... Does anybody know, how the page lifecycle continues to process the request after Databinding/Loading ? I'm going crazy about this issue...

  I'm just getting started in Java and am looking for advice on a good way to store nested sets of data. For example, I'm interested in storing city population data that can be accessed by looking up the city in a given state. (Note: eventually, other data will be stored with each city as well, this is just the first attempt at getting started.) The current approach I'm using is to have a StateList Object which contains a HashMap that stores State Objects via a string key (i.e. HashMap<String, State>). Each State Object contains its own HashMap of City Objects keyed off the city name (i.e. HashMap<String, City>).   Estamos muy activos con la implantación de plataformas ECM que den servicio a múltiples clientes. Consiguiendo 2 objetivos muy importantes:El cliente final puede pagar al proveedor por una plataformas ECM como servicio (SaaS). Y, lógicamente, se ahorra en complejidad y gastos de infraestructura, administración, formación, almacenamiento, etc...Hemos estado explicando estos días el modelo Master-Proxy de Oracle UCM con el que podemos implantar este tipo de plataformas. No siempre será la solución más adecuada porque a veces vamos a querer disponer de plataformas compartidas, pero con clientes completamente aislados. Siempre, la consola de migración nos permite exportar e importar componentes, metadatos, contenidos, workflows, etc... para que elijamos el modelo más adecuado para cada caso.Pero, ¿Cómo funciona?. Podéis ver en la imágen que se basa en la instalación de varias instancias de UCM y configurarlas de forma que varias de ellas se comporten como "Master" (digo varias para conseguir alta disponibilidad), y el resto se comporten como "Proxy" (también varias instancias de UCM pueden comportarse como un mismo "Proxy" permitiendo balancear la carga en función de que cada cliente requiera más o menos rendimiento). Esta configuración (que vemos en la imágen adjunta), nos permite:Delegar la gestión de usuarios de cada cliente. Los usuarios del Master podrán acceder a todos los Proxies, pero los usuarios de cada proxy sólo acceden a su repositorio.Delegar funcionalidad y componentes. Es posible configurar diferentes funcionalidades en cada proxy de forma que algunos servidores estén especializados en Web Content Management, otros en Document Management (por ejemplo).Diferentes modelos de metadatos. Podemos modelar unos tipos documentales generales para toda la plataforma y otros particulares diferentes en cada UCM "Proxy".Conseguir una centralización de búsquedas y acceso a repositorios de documentación con diferentes juegos de caracteres. • What Gets Measured Gets Managed

  OK, so if I were to claim credit for inventing that expression, I guess I could share the mantle with Al Gore, creator of the Internet. But here's the point: How many of us acquire CRM systems without specifically benchmarking several key performance indicators across sales, marketing and service BEFORE and AFTER deployment of said system? Yes, this may sound obvious and it might provoke the, "Well of course, Diamond!" response, but is YOUR company doing this? Can you define in quantitative terms the delta across multiple parameters? I just trolled the Web site of one of my favorite sales consultancy firms, The Alexander Group. Right on their home page is a brief appeal citing the importance of benchmarking. The corresponding landing page states, "The fact that hundreds of sales executives now track how their sales forces spend time means they attach great value to understanding how much time sellers actually devote to selling." The opportunity is to extend this conversation to benchmarking the success that companies derive from the investment they make in CRM systems, i.e., to the automation side of the equation. To a certain extent, the 'game' is analogous to achieving optimal physical fitness. One may never quite get there, but beyond the 95% threshold of "excellence," she/he may be entering the realm of splitting infinitives. But at the very start, and to quote verbiage from the aforementioned Alexander Group Web page, what gets measured gets managed. And getting to that 95% level along several key indicators would be a high quality problem indeed, don't you think? Yes, this could be a "That's so 90's" conversation, but is it really?

• Redistribution of sqlpackage.exe [SSDT]

  This is a short note for anyone that may be interested in redistributing sqlpackage.exe. If this isn’t you then no need to keep reading. Ostensibly this is here for anyone that bingles for this information. sqlpackage.exe is a command-line that ships with SQL Server Development Tools (SSDT) in SQL Server 2012 and its main purpose (amongst other things) is to deploy .dacpac files from the command-line. Its quite conceivable that one might want to install only sqlpackage.exe rather than the full SSDT suite (for example on a production server) and I myself have recently had that need. I enquired to the SSDT product team about the possibility of doing this. I said: Back in VS DB Proj days it was possible to use VSDBCMD.exe on a machine that did not have the full VS shell install by shipping lots of pre-requisites along for the ride (details at How to: Prepare a Database for Deployment From a Command Prompt by Using VSDBCMD.EXE). Is there a similar mechanism for using VSDBMCD.exe’s replacement, sqlpackage.exe? here was the reply from Barclay Hill who heads up the development team: Yes, SQLPackage.exe is the analogy of VSDBCMD.exe. • Redistribution of sqlpackage.exe [SSDT]

  This is a short note for anyone that may be interested in redistributing sqlpackage.exe. If this isn’t you then no need to keep reading. Ostensibly this is here for anyone that bingles for this information. sqlpackage.exe is a command-line that ships with SQL Server Development Tools (SSDT) in SQL Server 2012 and its main purpose (amongst other things) is to deploy .dacpac files from the command-line. Its quite conceivable that one might want to install only sqlpackage.exe rather than the full SSDT suite (for example on a production server) and I myself have recently had that need. I enquired to the SSDT product team about the possibility of doing this. I said: Back in VS DB Proj days it was possible to use VSDBCMD.exe on a machine that did not have the full VS shell install by shipping lots of pre-requisites along for the ride (details at How to: Prepare a Database for Deployment From a Command Prompt by Using VSDBCMD.EXE). Is there a similar mechanism for using VSDBMCD.exe’s replacement, sqlpackage.exe? here was the reply from Barclay Hill who heads up the development team: Yes, SQLPackage.exe is the analogy of VSDBCMD.exe.
