  • web analytics open source software recommendations

    - by contact-kram
What do people use to gather metrics for their site? Do you have any open source recommendations? I would like something based on php + mysql, easily extensible and in addition to getting UX usage information, I would also need to know how my product gets used in the backend. Database and web server metrics is also something I would be interested in garnering. Please advice.

  • Open-stackoverflow installation/download info

    - by fmsf
Hey, You probably already know about this I guess it's a programming question. I've been trying to find with google the info, but the amount of results using "open stackoverflow" pointing to questions here in stackoverflow is making the search a bit hard. So what better place to ask than here. Where can i find information/documentation on how to install/use/extend the SO q&a system? I want to create a clone for a local community from my city.

I'd been trying to read about Open Source Software (OSS) but I'm still not clear about the scope of commercial use of OSS. Where can I find more details about the commercial use of OSS? Only then can I concentrate on "What License should I use for a new OSS project in .NET" for FOSS.

  • What should an open source representative know?

    - by Hans
I was recently made the "open source representative" for our software team. Some of the duties include: Tracking FOSS used in our projects Propose FOSS solutions to the software team Being the intermediary between the software team and the legal department While I have some experience with FOSS, I was wondering: Where I can get a good overview of FOSS licenses? What should I be aware of when dealing with the legal department? How can I gently introduce the team to FOSS?

Anyone know of any open source libraries for particle based large scale smooth particle hydrodynamics. I am looking for a easier way of simulating large scale planetary body impacts with rotation. I was also wondering if you had any ideas on how to visualize the output from said simulation. I have tried using IBM graphviz, but it is very difficult to work with. Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • Why the proliferation of open source licenses?

    - by dwj
Is the proliferation of open source licenses just another example of programmers living NYI (Not Invented Here) syndrome? I know there are some big differences between some of the big licenses (e.g., GPL, Apache, BSD) but when you start looking to see many projects creating their own licenses. Why?
