• Using tshark to generate traffic logs every X seconds

  I'm trying to use tshark to maintain a running history of all the packets that are going through an interface, for say 30 seconds. I want it to be human readable. This is a linux machine, and without mucking too much into the netstack source (which I can do if push comes to shove), I was wondering if I can use tshark to this. tshark has a -b duration:10 -b files:2 which I can use to generate a rotating set of 2 files, but I don't know which format it is printing the file in or how to read it.

  When you take clips and turn them into computer playable files, whether .TS or .MOV or .MPG, .MP4, .VOB, etc., do you as the producer actually manually write into some field in a "Details" section of your video editor what the video length is, so that it can be read by the eventual user's video player? Or is this activity performed automatically by the video editor? I'm asking because: when a mouse is passed over a file line item in Windows 7 Shell (Windows Explorer) a little box is displayed where the mouse meets the file line item and provides simple name and size properties, one of which (if it's a media file) is run length. How does that figure get there into the file (later to be read be Windows or OS X)? Thanks for any info.

  Update I've gotten plenty of feedback on the software solutions and the unanimous solution for having a handheld device to record video seems to be to use a mobile phone (I was hoping there'd be some webcam-like device with wifi support...) I'd appreciate more hardware suggestions now. That is, what mobile phones have good video recording quality (and battery time)? I'm looking for a solution to broadcast video live on the internet from a location (an apartment), with a device that can be carried around. What options are there? I'm looking for complete solutions (i.e., what hardware to use, what software to use, how it should all be set up.) Currently, I have my mobile phone (Nokia N95 8GB) with Qik installed connected to wifi, but unfortunately the videos get bad quality (especially since it's indoors with poor lighting) plus the battery gets used up quickly.

• What program should I use for SSL stripping and re-encrypting

  I'm trying to strip a HTTP over SSL connection down to SSL and then re-encrypt the channel (with a signed certificate(s) I can provide). Of course I want to be able to store captures of all the un-encrypted data. The purpose of this is to reverse engineer a HTTP handshake that is used by a SIP program on my machine. I've tried SSLstrip but it doesn't support what I need it too. Edit: I want something to this effect https://github.com/applidium/Cracking-Siri/blob/master/tcpProxy.rb only more generic and able to write to a pcap stream that wireshark will understand (I'm not sure if this does that). Edit2: upon further inspection this does not create pcap streams. I guess if need be I can write a compatible version but that is not the desired choice.

I managed to successfully connect using Cisco VPN Client, now I'm trying to switch to OSX 10.6 native client, because of licensing issues.   I would like to record record multiple audio web streams like this one in parallel to an mp3 or wma file for a duration of several days. I would like to be able to limit the file size or the duration stored in each file. The tool can be for any operating system. I do not need anything fancy like song recognition, metadata or silence detection. I haven't been able to find such a piece of software so far. Example: Tap channel "News" results in: News-090902-0000-0100.mp3, News-090902-0100-0200.mp3, etc... Who knows what tool can do this? It can be commercial software. • Least CPU intensive way of streaming your screen on windows?

  Hello, sometimes I like capturing my screen for others to see. Only thing: I am playing games while I do it. I have tried a few streaming solutions where Windows Media Encoder coupled with my own Windows server appealed to me most, because I can change resolutions, etc. I also tried ustream coupled with the Flash applet and the Adobe Flash Encoder recording a Camtasia source. Camtasia has the disadvantage though that it shows the green-and-black-alternating borders and can not be targeted fullscreen. I like how xfire does it. But it doesn't work with every game, many are simply not supported. A few thoughts about this: Is there a program which captures like Fraps or XFire (based on Direct3D and OpenGL outputs) and exposes the output to a DirectShow source filter? Which brings me to: Is there hardware accelerated capturing directly from the graphics card? Maybe including direct encoding with help from OpenCL? Modern graphic cards decode BluRay content directly for example. I should have a modern enough graphics processor for this to be possible (see below). If using Windows Media Encoder: Which are the least CPU intensive settings? Which codec? Is there a newer codec than Windows Media 9? Is it less CPU intensive? I only have 7, 8 and 9 inside the Encoder Could the performance be massively increased by having a Quad-Core CPU (see below)? Bandwidth is no problem up to 1000 to 1500 kbit/s (I have 2048). My Computer specs: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 4 GB DDR2-800 Ram Ati Radeon HD5770 Using Windows 7 Professional

  I'm a newbie in desktop recording and screencasting. I didn't find a suitable free application to do all the things I want it to do, but I did enjoy using jing. I would expect such an application to have these features: choose the whole desktop, a region, a window to record zoom in an area, and camera move save the recorded movie to a compressed format have basic editing tools have the mouse highlighting feature (either a sonar blip or something similar) highlight window/field on the screen, any trick will do display pressed keys/key combinations (like iphone does) So the question is: Which free desktop recording/screencasting software would you recommend on windows? It doesn't have to have all those features, just tell me your favorable experiences. Please suggest tools that would do mouse/keys/areas highlight tricks. I'm open to commercial software too, but I would prefer a free one. Thank you!

However, i need the destination port number conversion to "http" "netbios" etc. i'm not using -n option, but still i get: 128.3.45.128;62259;208.233.189.150;80 This is what i'm trying to get: 128.3.45.128;62259;208.233.189.150;http or 128.3.45.128;62259;208.233.189.150;80;http is better option for me. any idea from tshark users? or any other tool suggestions?

• SMTP port open - but not open

  As some of you might know, I am setting up an exchange server. Now I ran into another problem: I cannot connect to the SMTP service from outside the server! The ports are opened in the gateway device (a ZyXEL USG50), Windows firewall is off. I see the packets travekl through the ZyXEL firewall, and I can also see the packets with wireshark on the server, so I know they are getting all the way in to the server. I also know it receives them, and sends out the reply - and this is where things go bad! Analyzing with wireshark, I get these errors in the return packets: Header checksum: 0x0000 [incorrect, should be 0x0779 (may be caused by "IP checksum offload"?)] And: Acknowledgment Number: 0x8e3337d1 [should be 0x00000000 because ACK flag is not set] What the (sorry my French) hell is going on? I really cant figure it out.. Thanks in advance.

  I was recording a video when my KODAK EASYSHARE M531 Digital Camera fell to the ground and turned off. When i turned it on nothing happened to the camera but the video file is somehow broken. • How to edit screen grabbed video on Windows XP?

  Problem I've used CamStudio to record a presentation (fullscreen, 1280x1024, 45 min, no audio) to a small number of AVI files (10 files with about 800 MB total). Now I want to remove the initial and trailer sequences where you see start and stop of CamStudio. I'd like to remove some pauses during the video, too. Question Could you recommend some programs for Windows XP that I can use for this task? The result should be a (small - at least not bigger than the original) video format that I can play back. I've no need to create a DVD etc. Already tried I already tried MAGIX Video Deluxe 16 (Trial Version), but it takes about 2 hours to just export 10 minutes of the video and produces about 2 GB of data for this.

• Suddenly blocked from a site

  Suddenly from a time to now I haven't been able to go to a site I used to go frequently for maintenance (Wordpress). I tried different browsers, restarting my laptop, clearing cache, history, cookies. Also did a ping to the site ip, go 4 packets send and 4 lost. This is a problem I think with only my laptop, since I've been able to go into the site from other devices in the same network. I have also tried connecting to the same site from a completely different network with the same problem. I really don't know what to do about this, any advices? PS: site hosted in wp engine if that has anything to do with this problem.

• Rendering composite/SVideo input with GraphEdit (comp./svid. source for crossbar)?

  Does anyone know how to form a GraphEdit graph to render composite/SVideo input (especially for a Hauppauge or AIW card)? Google (and Google Images) finds only results focusing on rendering the TV tuner which is already simple enough. The tv-tuner-in pins connect to the TvTuner/TvAudio source, but nothing seems to be able to connect to the Composite/SVideo pins. I have looked through the filters and could find no sources to connect to the Composite/SVideo input pins of the crossbar; GraphEdit always complains that they are not compatible.

Please check out the following link for a basic screen divisions layout I want to setup. http://flickr.com/photos/55097319@N03/5410208856 In the division labeled "ppt" I plan to run a powerpoint presentation. The screen division is 360x1476 resolution. As there isn't an option in powerpoint to specify slide size in terms of resolution so according to this article on indezine http://indezine.com/products/powerpoint/books/perfectmedicalpres02.html to get a screen resolution of my preference I divided 360 and 1476 each by 72 which gives me 5"x 20.5" as the slide size for my ppt. After setting up slide size as per above dimensions, I used sizer (http://brianapps.net) to resize my ppt window to 360x1476 so that when I record I do not get any black bars. But after launching recording there are side black bars visible which camtasia records and brings-inside cam studio with black bars. http://www.flickr.com/photos/55097319@N03/5409597049 My question is that after doing the above and as explained in the following video link why do I still get black bars. http://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/topics/eliminate_black_bars_in_your_powerpoint_recordings Is there an option in camtasia to stretch the recording to cover up black bars or any other alternative way I can get rid of those black bars while I get a ppt recorded as per my preferred dimensions. Notes: In the techsmith video above it asks to adjust my desktop screen resolution which my display chipset does not allow me to set. I set up show in powerpoint to be "browsed by an individual(window)". Also signage software only supports swf's and video file formats natively and not ppt, pptx etc. Thanks bhavani.
