  • rspec undefined local variable or method `class_nesting_depth`

    - by unsorted
I'm using rails 3 w/ rspec-rails 2.4.1 and I get an error during model generation. Can't find anything from googling. Anyone know what might be going on? TIA $ rails g model CourseRating student_id:integer course_id:integer difficulty:integer usefulness:integer invoke active_record create db/migrate/20110111044035_create_course_ratings.rb create • Is reading xml simple in rails or converting it to hash will be simpler?

    - by Salil
Hi All, Sorry for this question but after spending 1-2 hours on how to read xml, i thought posting it on forum will be better. So i get a complex (very large)xml response from the plugin trackify. i want to read some values form it so i covert it into hash and then read it as follows For ex:- to read city @tracking_info['TrackResponse']['Shipment']['ShipTo']['Address']['City'] #>> "SEATTLE" my question is it proper way to getting xml response or there are some xml methods which is simple to use?

  • Using Mapping Models to migrate between Core Data Object Models

    - by westsider
I have a fairly simply scheme. Essentially, Run <-- Data (where a Run holds a data, e.g., Temperature, sampled from some sort of sensor). Now, it seems that sensors can have more than one measurement (e.g., Temperature and Humidity). So, a single Run could have multiple data samples. Hence, Run <-- Sample and Sample <-- Data. (And for simplicity I am leaving Run <-- Data in place, for now.) If I create a new mapping model, then things generally work - except that no new Samples are created, no relationships are established between Runs and Samples nor between Samples and Datas. I am trying to get mapping model to migrate my model but even the slightest change to the generated mapping model results in Cocoa error 134110. For example, if I take the "Sample" mapping (which has no Source) and set its Source to 'Run' (so that I can set Sample's inverse relationship 'run' appropriately) then the mapping changes its name to "RunToSample". There are two relationships handled in this mapping: data and run. The data property gets set automatically to FUNCTION($manager, "destinationInstancesForEntityMappingNamed:sourceInstances:" , "DataToData", $source.dataSet) Following this example, I set the run property to FUNCTION($manager, "destinationInstancesForEntityMappingNamed:sourceInstances:" , "RunToRun", $source) Similarly, I set the 'sample' property mapping in RunToRun to FUNCTION($manager, "destinationInstancesForEntityMappingNamed:sourceInstances:" , "RunToSample", $source) and the 'sample' property in DataToData to FUNCTION($manager, "destinationInstancesForEntityMappingNamed:sourceInstances:" , "RunToSample", $source.run) So, what, I wonder, is going wrong? I have tried various permutations, such as leaving the 'inverse' relationships unspecified. But I continue to get the same error (134110) regardless. I imagine that this is a lot easier than it seems and that I am missing some fundamental but minor piece. I have also tried subclassing NSEntityMigrationPolicy and overriding -createDestinationInstancesForSourceInstance: but these efforts have met with much the same results. Thanks in advance for any pointers or (relevant :-) advice.

  • Ruby / Rails - How to aggregate a Query Results in an Array?

    - by AnApprentice
Hello, I have a large data set that I want to clean up for the user. The data set from the DB looks something like this: ID | project_id | thread_id | action_type |description 1 | 10 | 30 | comment | yada yada yada yada yada 1 | 10 | 30 | comment | xxx 1 | 10 | 30 | comment | yada 313133 1 | 10 | 33 | comment | fdsdfsdfsdfsdfs 1 | 10 | 33 | comment | yada yada yada yada yada 1 | 10 | | attachment | fddgaasddsadasdsadsa 1 | 10 | | attachment | xcvcvxcvxcvxxcvcvxxcv Right now, when I output the above in my view its in the very same order as above, problem is it is very repetitive. For example, for project_id 10 & thread_id 30 you see: 10 - 30 - yada yada yada yada yada 10 - 30 - xxxxx 10 - 30 - yada yada yada yada yada What I would like to learn how to do in ruby, is some how create an array and aggreate descriptions under a project_id and thread_id, so instead the output is: 10 - 30 - yada yada yada yada yada - xxxxx - yada yada yada yada yada Any advice on where to get started? This requirement is new for me so I would appreciate your thoughts on what you're thinking the best way to solve this is.Hopefully this can be done in ruby and not sql, as the activity feed is likely going to grow in event types and complexity. Thanks

  • Ruby on Rails: Model.all.each vs find_by_sql("SELECT * FROM model").each ?

    - by B_
I'm fairly new to RoR. In my controller, I'm iterating over every tuple in the database. For every table, for every column I used to call SomeOtherModel.find_by_sql("SELECT column FROM model").each {|x| #etc } which worked fine enough. When I later changed this to Model.all(:select => "column").each {|x| #etc } the loop starts out at roughly the same speed but quickly slows down to something like 100 times slower than the the find_by_sql command. These calls should be identical so I really don't know what's happening. I know these calls are not the most efficient but this is just an intermediate step and I will optimize it more once this works correctly. Thanks!

  • Ruby on Rails / Yellow Maps For Ruby Plugin woes...

    - by Zach
Okay I've read through the plugin comments and the docs as well and I have yet to come up with an answer as to how to do this. Here's my problem I want to use the :info_window_tabs and the :icon option, but I don't know what format to pass my information in. According to the documentation the following code should be correct. Here's my code: @mapper.overlay_init(GMarker.new([map.lat, map.lng], :title => map.name, :info_window_tabs => [ {:tab => "HTML", :content => @marker_html}, {:tab => "Attachments", :content => "stuff"}], :icon => { :image => "../images/icon.png" })) The readme and documentation can be viewed here. And the relevant ruby file that I am trying to interact with, including the author's comments, can be viewed here. I have tried the #rubyonrails channel in IRC as well as emailing the author directly and reporting an issue at GitHub. It really is just a question of syntax. Thanks!

  • Rspec-rails doesn't seem to find my models

    - by sa125
Hi - I'm trying out rspec, and immediately hit a wall when it doesn't seem to load db records I know exist. Here's my fairly simple spec (no tests yet). require File.expand_path(File.dirname(__FILE__) + '../spec_helper') describe SomeModel do before :each do @user1 = User.find(1) @user2 = User.find(2) end it "should do something fancy" end I get an ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound exception, saying it couldn't find User w/ ID=1 or ID=2, which I know for a fact exist. I set both test and development databases to point to the same schema in database.yml, so this shouldn't be database mixup. I also ran script/generate rspec after installing the gems (rspec, rspec-rails), and gem.config both environment.rb and test.rb. Any idea what I'm missing? thanks. EDIT Seems I was running the tests with rake spec:models, which emptied the db and thus no records were found. When I used % spec spec/models/some_model_spec.rb, everything worked as expected.

  • How to control respond_to based on variable in Rails controller?

The dilemma I'm using a before_filter in my controller that restricts access to admins. However, I want to allow access public access to some methods based on request format. • Resolving NameErrors -- Getting NameError on RAILS_END in rails_end.rb When using desert plugin and

    - by dr
What's an effective approach to debug NameErrors in Rails? I'm trying to use the desert plugin (0.5.0) and the edge version of Community_Engine. I've started from scratch and gone through the installation instructions. When I attempt to start my server, I get this error: "Constant RAILS_END from rails_end.rb not found (NameError)". Problem is I cannot find rails_end.rb, nor can I find a google reference to this file or error. I've verified that the required gems are installed and current. • How can I install ruby on rails with rvm?

    - by yeahthatguyrightthere
I've been searching around on how to install it through the terminal on my mac. I'm using snow leopard. When I use the command: rvm install 1.9.3 I've also followed the other procedures that led me up to this to install, right now the current version is 1.8.3 Error running './configure --prefix="/Users/jose/.rvm/usr" ', please read /Users/jose/.rvm/log/ruby-1.9.3-p125/yaml/configure.log Then it mentions something about xcode and autoreconf was not found in the PATH. Error running 'patch -F 25 -p1 -N -f <"/Users/jose/.rvm/patches/ruby/1.9.3/p125/xcode-debugopt-fix-e34840.diff"',please read /Users/jose/.rvm/log/ruby-1.9.3-p125/patch.apply.xcode-debugopt-fix-r34840.log rvm requires autoreconf to install the selected ruby interpreter however autoreconf was not found in the PATH I been trying for awhile now, and found out i need to have Xcode for snow leopard which I cannot find. So my last option will be to upgrade to lion but I don't know about upgrading. Kind of scared to upgrade and everything becomes buggy.

  • Building a rails form to filter an index page?

    - by Schroedinger
G'day guys, I'm having an issue with filtering the presentation of several thousand trade items I have in my system. As per the specs of the system we're building we have to have a form that allows people to put in a start date and then an interval in minutes, to filter the presentation of the items. I've built my helper functions to return all of the trades within that interval period, but I can't for the life of me properly build the form that will return a dateTime value and an integer value within the top of the index page? Any ideas? Would I have to build a separate model object to assign values to, or is there a simpler way?

  • Rails: Helpers and Models - where to organize code

    - by Sam
More and more I'm putting all of my code in models and helpers concerning MVC. However, sometimes I'm not sure where to organize code. Should it go into the model or should it go into a helper. What are the benefits of each. Is one faster or are they the same. I've heard something about all models getting cached so it seems then like that would be a better place to put most of my code. For example here is a scenario that works in a model or in helper: def status if self.purchased "Purcahsed" elsif self.confirmed "Confirmed" elsif self.reserved "Reserved" else "Pending" end end I don't need to save this status as in the database because there are boolean fields for purchased, and confirmed, and reserved. So why put this in a model or why put it into a helper? So I'm not sure of the best practice or benefits gained on putting code into a model or into helper if it can be in both.

  • How to resolve high CPU + excessive stat("/etc/localtime") and clock_gettime(CLOCK_REALTIME) calls

    - by Yemster
I've been experiencing really high CPU on a ruby on rails app (see stack below) and have been trying to diagnose the possible causes to no avail. Stack: ruby 1.9.3 rails 3.2.6 Apache/2.2.21 (Debian) Phusion Passenger 3.0.11 Whenever I run strace against the spiking Rack process PID (see Top excerpt below), I am seeing a tonne of stat("/etc/localtime") and clock_gettime(CLOCK_REALTIME) calls and have no idea how to stop these. Things tried so far: Have tried setting time zone as recommended here Made no difference and issue still persists. Content of my /etc/localtime: TZif2UTCTZif2UTC UTC0 Have tried the recommended fix for the leapsecond bug: date -s 'date' No joy so far. I'm fresh out of ideas so any help/advice on how to diagnose or resolve would be greatly appreciated.

  • How to pass form errors in session or flash? [Rails 2.3.5]

    - by yuval
I have a create action for a form that potentially generates errors (i.e. first name is missing) and then redirects. The problem is, that when the redirect happens those form errors get lost. How could I pass those form errors in a session to be displayed back in the original form (which should still be filled out with the previous details, as in the original error_messages behavior)? Thanks!

  • What's a good plugin or guide I can use to create javascript widgets from a Rails App?

    - by nicosuria
I've been looking around for a while now and the best guide I've seen so far is Dr Nic's DIY widgets how to (here). I haven't been able to make something like this work: Assuming this is my widget code: <script src="http://mysite/nomnoms.js"> </script> And my nomnoms controller looks like (assume that the list partial exists and simply lists down a link to the show page of each nomnom in the @nomnoms variable): class NomnomsController < ApplicationController def index @nomnoms = Nomnom.find(:all) @content = render_to_string(:partial => 'list') end end And in the index.js of my nomnoms_controller I have: page << "document.write('<div>'" page << "document.write('#{@content.to_json}')" page << "</div>" The above setup doesn't render anything :(. But when I change the second line of index.js to: page << "document.write('nomnoms should be here') ...the widget renders the text. Any help or even a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • rails - when using Group_by - How to get an Index?

    - by AnApprentice
    I have the following: sets = DataSet.all.group_by{ |data| [data.project_id, "-", data.thread_id].join(" ") } <% sets.each do |range, datas| %> <p><%= range %>:</p> <% datas.each do |data| %> <%=data%> <p>Last Post<%= data.last.created_at %></p> <% end %> <% end %> Problem is that I need an index. So i updated the above with: <% sets.each_with_index do |range, datas, i| %> <p><%= range %>:</p> <% datas.each do |data| %> <%= i %> <%=data%> <p>Last Post<%= data.last.created_at %></p> <% end %> <% end %> That then breaks, with the error: undefined method `last' for 0:Fixnum Ideas? thank you

  • Java Script in Rails 3.1 works only in certain parts. Any idea why?

    - by Sergio Nekora
This might seem a bit weird, but since I am new in RoR and cannot find any similar questions I thought you might know. The situation is that JavaScript does not work throughout my whole site. For instance. For the sake of checking, I place a link with an alert function in the footer. It did not work at the beginning, it felt like the JS was disabled(but it wasn't). But eventually it worked. Now it works in most the pages but it does not work in one that there is also an 'autocomplete' field. Of course, this autocomplete field does not work either. That could lead you to think that there is something wrong with the autocomplete code. However this same code is working in the sidebar. Any ideas why? Could it have anything to do with the fact that one day my assets folder appeared empty? After installing the gmaps4rails gem I realized that all my Js and CSS files were gone from my assests folder. Ok, it might have happened long before and I just realized at that point. I don't really know. Here in the root you can see that the 'Hola sip' click at the button works. here it works However, here same link does not trigger the alert function. here it doesn't

  • Why rails app is redirecting unexpectedly instead of matching the route?

    - by ruevaughn
I asked this question earlier and thought it was fixed, but it's not. Previous question here My problem is I am trying to set my routes so that when I type in localhost:3000/sites/admin It should redirect to localhost:3000/en/sites/admin here is my routes.rb file scope ":locale", locale: /#{I18n.available_locales.join("|")}/ do get "log_out" => "sessions#destroy", as: "log_out" get "log_in" => "sessions#new", as: "log_in" resources :sites, except: [:new, :edit, :index, :show, :update, :destroy, :create] do collection do get :home get :about_us get :faq get :discounts get :services get :contact_us get :admin get :posts end end resources :users resources :abouts resources :sessions resources :coupons resources :monthly_posts resources :reviews resources :categories do collection { post :sort } resources :children, :controller => :categories, :only => [:index, :new, :create, :new_subcategory] end resources :products do member do put :move_up put :move_down end end resources :faqs do collection { post :sort } end root :to => 'sites#home' match "/savesort" => 'sites#savesort' end match '', to: redirect("/#{I18n.default_locale}") match '*path', to: redirect("/#{I18n.default_locale}/%{path}") But as of right now, it redirects to /en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/sites/admin (adds en until browser complains). Any thoughts why it keeps adding /en?

  • Using routing (?) to make GET request in Rails so ID doesn't show

    - by ale
I have a link in one view myapp/locations that goes to myapp/statistics?id=1 (statistics for location with ID 1) which works fine but it doesn't look pretty. I think I've seen people do this sort of thing without needing the ?id=1? I could use a POST but this is not RESTful. Is there a way I can use routing to allow the user to go to myapp/statistics?id=1 but have the user see myapp/statistics? Many thanks.

  • How to show specific link to user that's signed in and on specific page in rails?

    - by sevens
    I have the following code for part of my navigation: <% if user_signed_in? %> <li><%= link_to 'Edit Profile', edit_profile_path(current_user.profile) %></li> <li><%= link_to 'Edit Account', edit_user_registration_path %></li> <% elsif user_signed_in? and params[:controller] == 'profiles#edit' %> <li><%= link_to 'View Profile', profile_path(current_user.profile) %></li> <li><%= link_to 'Edit Account', edit_user_registration_path %></li> <% else %> <li><%= link_to 'Sign up', new_user_registration_path %></li> <% end %> I want different links to show depending on where the "user_signed_in" is. However, my <% elsif user_signed_in? and params[:controller] == 'profiles#edit' %> doesn't seem to be working. What am I doing wrong?
