    Hi, I want to excluse a specific filename (say, fubar.log) from a shell (bash) globbing string, *.log. Nothing of what I tried seems to work, because globbing doesn't use the standard RE set. Test case : the directory contains fubar.log fubaz.log barbaz.log text.txt and only fubaz.log barbaz.log must be expanded by the glob.

    I've encountered a situation where it would be very helpful to know the breakdown of shell use by percentage. For example, I'm looking for something like bash: X%, sh: Y%, csh, tcsh, zsh, ksh, dash, etc.. Obviously, I know there are several complications - multiple shells, the definition of "use", uncertainty and so forth, but I would like to see an informed answer derived from actual data and based on some stated metric, even if the result could be horribly wrong. Bonus if there is historical data demonstrating a shift in preferences.

  • Optimizing grep (or using AWK) in a shell script

    Hi - In my shell script, I am trying to search using terms found in a $sourcefile against the same $targetfile over and over. My $sourcefile is formatted as such: pattern1 pattern2 etc... The inefficient loop I have to search with is: for line in $(< $sourcefile);do fgrep $line $targetfile | fgrep "RID" >> $outputfile done I understand it would be possible to improve this by either loading the whole $targetfile into memory, or perhaps by using AWK?   • Birt 2.5.2 report generates empty table data when run from a cron job

    I've got a shell script that runs genReport.sh in order to create a .pdf formatted report, and it works perfectly when it's run from the command line. The data source for the report is a ClearQuest database. When it's run from a CRON job the .pdf file is created, except that only the various report and column headers are displayed, and the data of the report is missing. There are no errors reported to STDERR during the execution of the script. This screams "environment variable" to me. Currently, the shell script is defining the following: CQ_HOME BIRT_HOME ODBCINI ODBCINST LD_LIBRARY_PATH If it's an environmental thing, what part of the environment am I missing?

  • SSIS Script Component Testing Strategy

    This question is in respect to the script component specifically. I am aware of ssisUnit etc… With simple SSIS Scripts Components, it’s sufficient to let basic testing flesh out issues, however I am working with a script that has grown in complexity over time. To better test the functionality I am considering abstracting the script logic into a DLL that gets deployed with the package, and then use the custom component in the script. The advantage is that the function will be more testable etc but it’s one more deployment artefact that needs to be managed. My question is, does anyone know of a better way to test such an SSIS script in a more isolated manner than to run the whole package and examine the output?

  • Auto SSH and execute script

    I have roughly 12 computers that each have the same script on them. This script merely pings all the other machines, and prints out whether the machine is "reachable" or "unreachable". However, it is inefficient to login to each machine manually using ssh to execute this script. Suppose I'm logged into node 1. Is there any way to for me to login to node 2-12 automatically using SSH, execute the ping script, pipe the results to a file, logout and proceed to the next machine? Some kind of bash shell script? I'm afraid I'm at a loss here since I haven't had experience with shell-scripting before.

  • Run script when a specific disk/memory card is mounted under OSX

    How do I run a script when a drive is mounted under OSX ? My usecase is that I would like to automatically copy images from my USB memory/harddrive when it is inserted in my USB card reader, and when a DVD or CD is inserted I would like to copy it for storage in my media center. I've tried using Marcopolo but from what I can see it can only detect the presence of a certain USB device, not the presence of specific harddrive. I'm looking for a VB Script (or alternate) which will extract the "appointment" titles of each item for the current day and then email the detail to a mail group, in doing so notifying the group with regard to which staff are on leave for the day.     Is there a script or batch file to automate the log-on process from the XP Welcome screen? As all details are the same Username, Password, and Domain in a room of 30 machines. The reason I don't use Windows AutoAdminLogon is I only want to logon temporary at different times as a user to run such things as online test for a class of high school students without the students logging on individually first, also it would be useful for admin tasks if I can change/specify the user details.
