  • error in IIS7 but not on IIS6

    I have a website that is we are now deploying to windows 2008 servers that has worked in the past on IIS6 without a problem. It is using .net 2 framework. Most of the website works. I really need to save all data on the disk as fast as I cant and I would really like not to have to reinstall my system.

  • Unix: Sync directory with FTP or SFTP directory

    I have a website on my local computer running Mac OS X. I am wondering if there is any built-in command that I can run in the Terminal that will upload that website to my webserver either through FTP or, if possible, SFTP. Installing new commands through MacPorts is also a possibility. A big bonus would be that it only uploaded the files that needs to be updated and not everything else. It would also be nice if I can tell it to delete the files on the server that no longer exists locally once in a while. Any good tips?

    I don't usually work with LAMP and am a bit stumped getting a site working locally. The site is set up to be used via localhost: 1) http://localhost/mysite However, the way the site files are physically on the server the root is located as such: 2) /var/www/mysite/trunk/site I'm trying to figure out a way where I could type #1 but have apache actually looking for the files in #2 so that all of the asset/page links in the web application work. Is mod_rewrite the solution? If so, I'm stumped on the syntax. I have this but it won't work (due, I assume, to it causing an infinite loop) RewriteRule ^mysite/ mysite/trunk/site I have a hunch I need to sprinkle on some regex?

    Hi I am looking into Identity managment in our environment. We currently use Active Directory and Sun's Enterprise Directory server (6.3). I was wondering if I used the Virtual Directory Server of the Enterprise Directory server, would we be able to point the vCenter clients to this Directory service for authentication and authorization rather than at the AD source. The reason for this is that we have more users we want to add to the management role of this server but not all are in AD, a fair number are in the Sun LDAP v3. directory. Thanks in advance Ian

  • High system cpu load (%sys), system locks

    For the last two weeks we are having intermittent severe spikes in system cpu usage (shown as %sys), which last for maybe half a minute, locking most processes, including ssh. I've been trying to figure this out, but atop doesn't show anything relevant (system usage for processes it shows is insignificant), spikes are intermittent and I could not reproduce the spike using any workload for the web application this webserver hosts. If you have any ideas on how to debug high %sys and (sometimes) %si CPU usage, please share them. System specs (don't know if any of this is relevant): Dedicated server, CentOS 6, core i7 950, consistent 4 to 8 GB RAM free at any time, hard drives are in RAID-1. Additional info: dmesg output doesn't change between spikes /var/log/messages doesn't change between spikes Here is cat /proc/vmstat Here is output of mpstat 1 during a typical spike Add 07.11.11: looks like simple reboot restored system state, and we might never know what caused the disturbance in first place.

  • How To Create Your Own x86 Operating System for Modern PC Computers

    I'd like to create a new operating system for x86 PC computers. I'd like it to be 64-bit but possibly run as 32-bit as well. I have these kinds of questions: What kinds of things do you start working on first? Knowing where to start in writing your own operating system seems to me to be a tricky subject, so I am interested in your input. Generally how to go about making your own 32-bit/64-bit operating system, or good resources that mention useful information about going about writing your own operating system for x86 computers. I don't care how old sources are as long as they are still relevant and useful to what I am doing. I know that I will want it to have kernel drivers that access peripheral hardware directly. Where should I look for advice and documentation for programming and understanding the interface to peripheral hardware the operating system will communicate with? I will need to understand how the operating system will receive input and interact with keyboards, mice, computer monitors, hard drives, USB, etc. etc. This is probably the area I know least about. I have the Intel instruction set manuals and have been getting more familiar with assembly programming, so the CPU side of things is what I know the most about. At this point I'm thinking that I'd like to implement the Linux system calls within my operating system so that programs that run on Linux can run on my operating system. I want my operating system to use the ELF binary format. I wonder what obstacles I have to overcome to achieve this Linux compatibility. Are the main things implementing the system calls that Linux provides, and using the ELF format? What else? I am also interested in people's thoughts about why it might not be a good idea to make your own operating system, and why it is a good idea to make your own operating system.   • does windows incremental backup include system state backup?

    I'm managing my very small office server with windows server 2008. since I have only one server, and the user group is really small. I made the first hdd into 2 partitions. one (C:) for windows and Active directory, another (D:) for tomcat and database. I'm doing incremental back C: and D: daily to hdd2 (E:) using windows server backup. is it enough to let me do fully restore my server in case of disaster? I ask this because I have read there is also a system state backup, and I also have to do that periodically in order to get AD back? isn't it with incremental/full backup I can do full bare-metal recovery?

I would like something that can integrate with Exchange and Active Directory (in-phone searching/calling by name (is this possible using SIP ?), etc) and if possible something not too expensive (Bye bye Cisco !), what do you recommend me ? I've heard of 3CX as IPBX and Aastra as Phones, are they good for this ? Or do you know something else good at this ? I've also seen some Alcatel IP Phones doing this (search by name, but I think that was a separated address book and not loaded from AD/Exchange) Thank you !

  • Impersonation in asp.net, confused about implmentation when used with Active Directory & Sql Server

    I have an internal website that is using integrated windows authentication and this website uses sql server & active directory queries via the System.Directory.Services namespace. To use the System.Directory.Services namespace in ASP.NET I have to run IIS under an account that has the correct privileges and importantly have impersonation set to true in the web config. If this is done then when I make a query against AD then the credentials of the wroker process (IIS) are used instead of the ASPNET account and therefore the queries will now succeed. Now if I am also using Sql Server with a connection string configured for integrated security ('Integrated Security=SSPI') then this interprets the ASP.NET impersonation to mean that I want to access the database as the windows credentials of the request no the worker process. I hope I'm wrong and that I've got the config wrong, but I don't think I have and this seems not to be inconsistent? It should be noted I'm using IIS 5.1 for development and obivously this doesn't have the concept of app-pools which I believe would resolve the problem.

    Hi, I have a server with Windows Server 2008. I want to install a new Windows Server 2008 R2 on a new hard disk but on a same machine. What is the way to backup/migrate only Active Directory? I found that migration must be done with Microsoft Active Directory Migration Tool, but it requires both source and target domains running at the same time. Any other suggests are to use an ordinary system backup/restore, but this will restore all other roles, whereas I need only Active Directory role on the new server.

    We were trying to run fllowing code in rake file: directory "tmp" file "hello.tmp" => "tmp" do sh "echo 'Hello' >> 'tmp/hello.tmp'" end We have taken this code from http://jasonseifer.com/2010/04/06/rake-tutorial But, since we are working on windows commands like'sh','echo' wont work.. according to the explanation given for the above code, it should first create a directory 'tmp' and then create a file 'hello.tmp' which will have 'hello' as its text.. Firstly, how can we do this for windows? and Secondly, a file with extension '.tmp' sounds quite wierd.. what does 'hello.tmp' specifies? Does it simply mean that 'hello.tmp' is a text file in 'tmp' directory?

How can the domain of the user be found from Active Directory programatically. One method thought of is : 1)Get the distinguished name of user from Active Directory. 2)Parse the distinguished name. 3)Get the substring that starts the first instance of "DC=". 4)Strip off the "DC=" at the beginning. 5)Replace all instances of ",DC=" with a "." 6)What is left is the DNS domain name of the user. Is this reliable. Please suggest some other solution.

  • InstallUtil Publishing WMI Schema to 64 Bit Directory Instead of 32 Bit Directory

    This is similar to this question, but it doesn't look like a good solution was ever determined, so I'm opening a new one with clarified details. We wrote a .NET service, which among other things, publishes some of the class hierarchy using WMI. On a 64-Bit machine, we are running the 32-bit version of InstallUtil to install the service. It installs successfully, but when the service runs, we receive the following error message when publishing a WMI class using Instrumentation.Publish() DirectoryNotFoundException - (Could not find a part of the path 'C:\Windows\system32\WBEM\Framework\root\MyNamespace\MyService'.) However, this directory does exist in the C:\Windows\syswow64 directory. If we manually copy that directory structure to the system32 directory, then everything works. However, we are looking for automated solution, because we have this packaged up in an MSI which we distribute onto many servers. We have tried running the 64-Bit version of InstallUtil, to see if that would work, however... and this is the really weird part... it gives us an error on install that says Installing WMI Schema: Started An exception occurred during the Install phase. System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Could not find a part of the path 'C:\Windows\system32\WBEM\Framework\root\MyNamespace\MyService.mof'. It looks as if somehow, the WMI installer flipped around. Has anyone else experienced this, or know of a work around?
