    Hello, I'm trying to build a .Net application to interrogate Active Directory. From my research, Windows 2008 R2 has Active Directory Web Services (ADWS) built in. I can't find any details or examples anywhere on the web which tell me whether I should be able to use ADWS in a .Net application to read/write AD information. Should I simply be able to add a web reference or is ADWS just for Powershell use. Cheers, Iain

  • How to get R to recognize your working directory as its working directory?

    I use R under Windows on several machines. I know you can set the working directory from within an R script, like this setwd("C:/Documents and Settings/username/My Documents/x/y/z") ... but then this breaks the portability of the script. It's also annoying to have to reverse all the slashes (since Windows gives you backslashes) Is there a way to start R in a particular working directory so that you don't need to do this at the script level?

    I would like to know from Java code if the machine that I'm on is running active directory or that it has active directory installed (e.g. service may be stopped). Is there a reliable registry key to inspect? This is specifically for Windows 2008. I found info on the web that mentions HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSDTC\Security\DomainControllerState, but that value is 0 on my domain controller as well as on my normal windows 7 machine!?

SSL-Explorer requires a dedicated Active Directory account to use for authenticating AD users. This account serves as a link to your Active Directory database. If the Service Account is not found on your AD database then the SSL-Explorer service will not start. Well I have Active Directory service account details and user submitted login/password details.In the code below I validated service account by giving MEMBER_GRPUP and adminPassword and I check whether the user exists in Active Directory by submitting samaaccountname but my question here is how do I validate the password submitted for that user? I am not sure how to do this, I appreciate if anybody has any suggestions on this. The command in my code is : system("wget", "$url", "-Omy_folder/$date-$target.html", "--user-agent=$useragent"); I've tried using " /dev/null 2&1" in different places in the system command, like this- system("wget", "$url", "-Omy_folder/$date-$target.html", "--user-agent=$useragent"," /dev/null 2&1"); Can anyone help me with where the redirection to /dev/null should be?

  • Command to zip a directory using a specific directory as the root

    I'm writing a PHP script that downloads a series of generated files (using wget) into a directory, and then zips then up, using the zip command. The downloads work perfectly, and the zipping mostly works. I run the command: zip -r /var/www/oraviewer/rgn_download/download/fcst_20100318_0319.zip /var/www/oraviewer/rgn_download/download/fcst_20100318_0319 which yields a zip file with all the downloaded files, but it contains the full /var/www/oraviewer/rgn_download/download/ directories, before reaching the fcst_20100318_0319/ directory. I'm probably just missing a flag, or something small, from the zip command, but how do I get it to use fcst_20100318_0319/ as the root directory?

  • FluentPath: a fluent wrapper around System.IO

    .NET is now more than eight years old, and some of its APIs got old with more grace than others. System.IO in particular has always been a little awkward. It’s mostly static method calls (Path.*, Directory.*, etc.) and some stateful classes (DirectoryInfo, FileInfo). In these APIs, paths are plain strings. Since .NET v1, lots of good things happened to C#: lambda expressions, extension methods, optional parameters to name just a few. Outside of .NET, other interesting things happened as well. For example, you might have heard about this JavaScript library that had some success introducing a fluent API to handle the hierarchical structure of the HTML DOM. You know? jQuery. Knowing all that, every time I need to use the stuff in System.IO, I cringe. So I thought I’d just build a more modern wrapper around it. I used a fluent API based on an essentially immutable Path type and an enumeration of such path objects. To achieve the fluent style, a healthy dose of lambda expressions is being used to act on the objects. Without further ado, here’s an example of what you can do with the new API. In that example, I’m using a Media Center extension that wants all video files to be in their own folder. For that, I need a small tool that creates directories for each video file and moves the files in there. Here’s the code for it: Path.Get(args[0]) .Select(p => p.Extension == ".avi" || p.Extension == ".m4v" || p.Extension == ".wmv" || p.Extension == ".mp4" || p.Extension == ".dvr-ms" || p.Extension == ".mpg" || p.Extension == ".mkv") .CreateDirectory(p => p.Parent .Combine(p.FileNameWithoutExtension)) .Previous() .Move(p => p.Parent .Combine(p.FileNameWithoutExtension) .Combine(p.FileName)); This code creates a Path object pointing at the path pointed to by the first command line argument of my executable. It then selects all video files. After that, it creates directories that have the same names as each of the files, but without their extension. The result of that operation is the set of created directories. We can now get back to the previous set using the Previous method, and finally we can move each of the files in the set to the corresponding freshly created directory, whose name is the combination of the parent directory and the filename without extension. The new fluent path library covers a fair part of what’s in System.IO in a single, convenient API. Check it out, I hope you’ll enjoy it. Suggestions are more than welcome.   • Accidentally uninstalled Ubuntu 14.04 system settings. How to get them back?

    Somehow, cleaning up useless software (using software center), I uninstalled Ubuntu "system settings". I did this by mistake. Now I fail to find system settings application using software center (and there are so many items in history...). It seems strange to me because usually when I try to uninstall something critical (system testing for example), the dependencies manager tells me It will uninstall the whole desktop system then. I am sure I did not have that warning. So I need the name of the software to install or a command line command rather than a system restore to get it back. Very interesting thing. If you ever want to play with this and reproduce it, you will be confused to see Ubuntu Mobile system settings instead! Yes, mobile network and touchscreen settings! Happy pre-release viewing!
