  Hi everyone I'm really hoping someone can help me out with this one. When debugging in Visual Studio, sometimes I add a breakpoint but it's hollow and VS says "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. The source code is different from the original version." Obviously this prevents me being able to debug. What on earth does the message mean? What original version? If I've just opened up the solution and not made any changes whatsoever to the code, how can there be an 'original version'? The appearance of this problem just seems totally arbitrary. It's just Visual Studio going 'Na na na na na, I'm not going to debug for you today'. Can anyone give any advice? Ta David

• How do you draw a line from one corner of the stage to the other?

  I am completely perplexed. I asked this question and it (any mentioned solution) doesn't seem to be working at all. All I want is to draw a line from one corner to the other. • Need Help With Simple Counting Bug in iPhone SDK

  So I'm basically making an app that adds a count to a number and then displays it each time you tap the button. However, the first tap issued doesn't take any action but adds one (just as planned) on the second tap.   OK I love Python's zip() function. Use it all the time, it's brilliant. Every now and again I want to do the opposite of zip(), think "I used to know how to do that", then google python unzip, then remember that one uses this magical * to unzip a zipped list of tuples. Like this: x = [1,2,3] y = [4,5,6] zipped = zip(x,y) unzipped_x, unzipped_y = zip(*zipped) unzipped_x Out[30]: (1, 2, 3) unzipped_y Out[31]: (4, 5, 6) What on earth is going on? What is that magical asterisk doing? Where else can it be applied and what other amazing awesome things in Python are so mysterious and hard to google?

After a quick round of sorting you are paired up with an alien computer scientist.   I just bought a Google Nexus One smartphone, and I want to write a small Android application for fun. Suppose I can get my current GPS coordinates, so then how can I programmatically find nearby landmarks or points-of-interest within some radius? Is there an API to get GPS geo-tagged landmarks, like in Google Earth's database? For example, if I'm in downtown Chicago, my program would point me to all the "tourist" things to visit in that city. Ideally, it would all run on my smartphone, but if necessary, I can have the smartphone query a webserver, which would then run more queries.

Is there a way of doing this? The exact problem: I am generating KML (for Google earth) and I am generating lots of lines with different Hex colours. The colours are generated mathematically and I need to keep it that way so I can make as many colours as I want. I need to generate a PNG icon for each of the lines that is the same colour exactly.

• Metro + Jetty + OSGi = pain

  I am trying to swap out Sun's HTTPServer for the much better Jetty server, within an OSGi bundle, running on Equinox. I have tried this: System.setProperty("com.sun.net.httpserver.HttpServerProvider","org.mortbay.jetty.j2se6.JettyHttpServerProvider"); but when endpoint.publish(url) is called, and the server is spawned, it complains of a ClassNotFoundException for org.mortbay.jetty.j2se6.JettyHttpServerProvider. However, the correct jars are in the bundle, and indeed in the Activator I can instantiate a org.mortbay.jetty.j2se6.JettyHttpServerProvider. I think that this is a some kind of classpath issue - the spawned server is in a different classpath maybe? I have tried adding the JARs in at the JDK level, but this doesn't make any difference. Can oanyone shed any light how on earth to get this working? P.S. Maybe hideous System.setProperty calls will vanish from the world one day. Hopefully :)

• Renaming Functions during runtime in PHP.

  In PHP 5.3 is there a way to rename a function or "hook" a function. There is the rename_function() within "APD" which has been broken since ~2004. If you try and build it on PHP 5.3 you'll get this error: 'struct _zend_compiler_globals' has no member named 'extended_info' This is a really easy error to fix, just change this line: GC(extended_info) = 1; to CG(compiler_options) |= ZEND_COMPILE_EXTENDED_INFO; I modified my php.ini and the APD shows up in my phpinfo() as it should. However when i call rename_function() the PHP page doesn't load and I get a segmentation fault in my /var/log/apache2/error.log. Is there anyway to fix APD to work with a modern version of PHP? Or is there another method to rename functions? Why on earth is vital feature not in php!??!?! (Gotta love python :)

• [PHP.ini] Can't load mcrypt.dll dynamic library.

  Hey guys, I'm trying to load this module: php_mcrypt.dll' Everything in the php.ini file is correct, see for yourself: extension_dir = "C:/PHP/5.2.13/ext" extension=php_mcrypt.dll The file exists in this path. And other modules are in there as well and are loaded successfully. It only has a problem with this particular module. I have a 64bit Windows XP, Apache 2.2, PHP 5.2.13... But i get this warning (error.log of Apache): PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library 'C:/PHP/5.2.13/ext\php_mcrypt1.dll' - The specified module could not be found.\r\n in Unknown on line 0 PHP itself is working fine. But one of our applications needs this module and it throws me this ugly error. Why on earth does it show me two backslashes in the log file?

• Why is this if statement failing?

  I'm working on an existing class that is two steps derived from System.Windows.Forms.Combo box. The class overrides the Text property thus: public override string Text { get { return this.AccessibilityObject.Value; } set { if (base.Text != value) { base.Text = value; } } } The reason given for that "get" is this MS bug: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814346 However, I'm more interested in the fact that the "if" doesn't work. There are times where "base.Text != value" is true and yet pressing F10 steps straight to the closing } of the "set" and the Text property is not changed. I've seen this both by just checking values in the debugger, and putting a conditional breakpoint on that only breaks when the "if" statement's predicate is true. How on earth can "if" go wrong? The class between this and ComboBox doesn't touch the Text property. The bug above shouldn't really be affecting anything - it says it's fixed in VS2005. Is the debugger showing different values than the program itself sees?

  Hello there, I have a string which looks like this "a 3e,6s,1d,3g,22r,7c 3g,5r,9c 19.3", how do I go through it and extract the integers and assign them to its corresponding letter variable?. (i have integer variables d,r,e,g,s and c). The first letter in the string represents a function, "3e,6s,1d,3g,22r,7c" and "3g,5r,9c" are two separate containers . And the last decimal value represents a number which needs to be broken down into those variable numbers. my problem is extracting those integers with the letters after it and assigning them into there corresponding letter. and any number with a negative sign or a space in between the number and the letter is invalid. How on earth do i do this?

  Hello everyone, I am building a Httphandler following these instructions here It manipulates HTTP POST and HTTP GET. I have a client with two buttons two POST and GET. After i've tested and happy everythings working I move it from localhost to IIS. Now when I do this I get an exception in the POST handler code. How on earth can I debug this code line by line? I managed to do this awhile ago, I thought it was by attaching to process but I can't work it out. I can emulate GET just by typing address in browser, post im not sure about. I've tried telnetting and sending it from there but haven't had any luck.

• Installing Hudson remotely?

  I'm trying to install Hudson on a server. The article here says to just do java -jar hudson.war and it should install to the server. This is pretty straightforward to do on a local computer, but I want to do it on a remote website host that I manage via cPanel. So how on earth do I do this? I really am a newb when it comes to this sort of thing... Also, obviously I require the JRE to do this. How do you install the JRE on a remote website host via cPanel? I don't even know where to get started... Thanks.

  I'm getting different behavior from a regular expression in JavaScript depending on whether or not I declare it using literal syntax. Using a extremely simple test HTML file: <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> var s = '3'; var regex1 = /\d/; var regex2 = new RegExp('\d'); alert(s.search(regex1)); // 0 (matches) alert(s.search(regex2)); // -1 (does not match) </script> </head> <body></body> </html> The regular expression declared with literal syntax (/\d/) works correctly, while the other (new RegExp('\d')) does not. Why on earth is this happening? I'm using Google Chrome 5.0.375.70 on Windows Vista Home Premium, if that's at all helpful.

• Calculating the union of 2 longitudal intervals (that may wrap around 180 degrees)

  The story: I have a LatLongBounds class that represents an area on the surface of the earth by a latitudinal interval (bounded by north & south - not important to this question) and a longitudinal interval (bounded by east and west; both normalized to a range [-180, 180] - negative being a westerly direction). In order to be able to represent an area that straddles the 180 degree meridian the value of west may be set to be greater than east (eg. the range west = 170, east = -170 will straddle said meridian). In effect the longitudinal interval may wrap around at 180 degrees (or equivalently -180 degrees). My Question: Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can calculate the union of two longitudinal intervals that may wrap around at 180 degrees. Thanks.

• Orbital equations, and power required to run them

  Due to a discussion on the SO IRC today, I'm curious about orbital mechanics, and The equations needed to solve orbital problems The computing power required to solve complex problems The question in particular is calculating when the Earth will plow into the Sun (or vice versa, depending on the frame of reference). I suspect that all the gravitational pulls within our solar system may need to be calculated, which makes me wonder what type of computer cluster is required, or can this be done on a single box? • Active record taking Date.today as yesterday

  I have a strange one.. I am doing something like : tip = find (:first, :conditions => ["last_shown = ? or last_shown is null", Date.today]) And then a little later on I do : tip.last_shown = Date.today tip.save When I look at output of these queries, ActiveRecord is doing the first query with todays date as I would expect. However, the send query, ActiveRecord is setting the last_shown date to be yesterdays date. Why on earth would it do this? I have config.time_zone = 'UTC' in my environment.rb. I can use Time.now.utc.to_date instead of Date.today but it makes no difference.

  I'm about to go mad. I cant for the life of me figure out texture coords. I have a Octahedron defined by the 8 triangles below. I want to map a texture of the earth on it. • How can I try a new language or framework without installing it?

  With so many languages and frameworks that exist, and with new ones appearing all the time, I don't have the time to download, install, and configure each one to evaluate it. In the past I've run across webapps that allow one to write or paste code into a window, and see the results in realtime in the browser, usually in a tutorial setting. What are your favorite sandbox sites for a given technology? Edit: @fretj provided the link to the excellent Google Code Playground (+1 upvote), but I thought that it was just for experimenting with Google's own apps (Search, Maps, Earth, Language, etc). But it turns out that it contains a few hidden gems: In addition to their apps, you can try out the many Javascript libraries that they host including jQuery, jQuery UI, MooTools, Dojo, and Prototype Scriptaculous. They're all hidden under the Libraries category in the "Pick an API" box. I overlooked the category because I thought it was for an app called Google Libraries. There's also a Javascript category for Javascript itself.
