  • Windows 7 x64 wired connection problem. IP, gateway, dns assigned, can't ping. Network detected as "Network"

    I am having a problem connecting to a specific wired network with my Latitude E6410 laptop. Other wired networks seem to work fine, but this one does not. I have a coworker with me with the same Intel 82577LM Gigabit Network card, and he can connect just fine. I've updated to the latest Intel drivers (11.8.75.0) and am not using Pro Set. I obtain all DHCP information just fine (IP, netmask, DNS server, default gateway). I cannot ping anything (internal or on the Internet - I tried pinging Google's public DNS servers by IP 8.8.8.8), nor can I get answers to any DNS queries through NS Lookup. Windows troubleshooting says everything is fine, but I can't get DNS responses. I've seen issues like this in the past that were related to link speed/duplex autonegotiaion failures, so I've tried manually setting link speed/duplex to all values one by one with no success. My coworker is using all default settings, so he is just using autonegotiate. Any ideas of other things to try?

Much like instant messaging, once considered a toy in the enterprise, expertise search, blogs as communications tools, wikis for tacit knowledge sharing are all seeing adoption in a way that is directly applicable to the business and quickly adding value. So where does social networking come in when trying to enhance customer experience?

    I am new to Ubuntu I have installed Ubuntu 12.04 as partition (with dual boot) using Wubi. In that my WiFi is working fine but LAN is being detected but its not working. I have tried some of the solutions like: I opened: gksu gedit /etc/network/interfaces I added these lines to the file: auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp Then I restarted the network: sudo service networking restart But still the problem persists. Why does Ubuntu 12.04 has issues with LAN when installed? any help would be appreciated

  • What is the best resource or method for learning more about servers and networking?

    I can get around a server to some degree, but everything I have learned has been as I have needed to learn it. Every once in a while I will learn about some new command that will revolutionize how I think about systems and networking, and realize how I could have been using it this whole time if only I had known about it. Anything to bring someone from novice to some kind of fluency? Do I just need to earn the battle scars bit by bit over the course of years? (I mean of course I do but what can I do to help it be not quite so painful?) For instance, I am still fuzzy on all of networking. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Run a service after networking is ready on Ubuntu?

    I'm trying to start a service that depends on networking being started, whenever the computer is rebooted. I have a few questions: Is this easily possible from an /etc/init.d script? I have tried creating a script here (conforming to the standards), but I'm really doubtful that it's even running on boot, let alone working. When I test it manually, it works. I've seen the new Upstart service, but as far as how that actually works, I'm completely in the dark. How can I make a script that runs on boot which runs after networking has been started? If I could run it after connected to wireless network, even better :)

    I have dual boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04 on my Dell N4110 laptop. I recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my existing windows 7 hard drive. I am experiencing very slow internet speed on Ubuntu(wired connection). But on Windows,internet is really fast. I disabled ipv6 by editing /etc/sysctl.conf No avail. Then i run the following command. sudo ethtool -s eth0 speed 100 duplex full autoneg off No benefit. I am having "Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller [10ec:8136] (rev 05)" network card.

  • Newb: First install of ubuntu, no wired or wireless

    Ran 12.04 through a usb drive for a day or so, and had no issues outside of some latency that is more due to the lack of ram on my aspire one D255e than to OS. Had wireless running with no issue, and wired tested as working also. Ran the install and removed windows 7, wireless network is detected but ethernet is not, and neither gets connection. Disabled proprietary driver and rebooted, re-enabled driver and still neither. I know nothing of ubuntu yet! What do? _<

    Hi! I have a very confusing problem that renders Ubuntu near unusable. Whenever I try to use any wired or wireless mouse with my Ubuntu 10.10 install, clicks stop going through - often times, this blockage of clicks happens in less than a minute. Sometimes no clicks are accepted, other times, clicks are accepted in certain windows and denied in others. The end result is the same, and I am forced to resort to using the keyboard to navigate. If anyone could help me resolve this problem, I would be very appreciative, as it would finally allow me to try Ubuntu. Thanks!

    I have ubuntu 12.10 (downgraded from 13.04 when I faced this issue). I am a newbee and don't know much of technical side like commandline on the terminal. I have a wired internet connection and it was working just fine for last few months since I installed ubuntu. my OS got upgraded to 13.04 and it was still fine. Since last 3 days, network shows connected, connection stays for few seconds and then websites stop loading. Connection shows as connected, but pages don't load. I have to reconnect again to access a website and the connection goes off again in say about 10 to 15 seconds. So I use my internet by connecting and disconnecting every few seconds.

    I am new to Ubuntu, recently I installed ubuntu 12.04 in Vm Player (Virtual Machine) on my Dell laptop having windows 7 ultimate 32 bit for just to check the security of my wireless network and want to crack the WiFi (WPA-PSK) password but in ubuntu it does not show the wireless network it shows the 2 arrow sign as i have not connect the ethernet cable to my laptop and connected through WiFi on my main OS (windows 7) but it shows the wired network and internet is working but it does not show wifi connection. On windows 7 WiFi is connected and showing the WiFi connection and working correctly.But my main motive is to crack the WiFi password as it can't detect WiFi network so what to do?   • Can't get IPv6 address using radvd on wireless interface on windows, wired works fine.

    I set up my router to use OpenWRT and set it up to use IPv6 using a tunnel form SixXs. I'm having problems with stateless autoconfiguration using radvd. On my computer, wired connection can get its IPv6 address fine, but wireless can't. After spending some time on OpenWRT forums, I'm pretty much sure now that router is set up fine and that the problem is with my windows settings. Also, I do not have any problems getting IPv6 address on openSUSE 11.3. So what should I do to solve this and what information should I post?     down vote favorite Hi Friends, I have got this issue with Ubuntu 10.10 . I have been with ubuntu 8.04 and then decided to try out ubuntu 10.10 . I booted with a LiveCD and was able to configure the wireless network painlessly using the livecd . so happily i installed ubuntu 10.10 . As soon as ubuntu came up it detected the wireless network and i was able to assign a static IP to eth1 (i dont use DHCP option on my ADSL router) and enter a wap key and use pppoeconf to configure the dialer . The net was on and i was able to surf the net . all hunky dory so far . However on the next boot the fun started . It did not detect the wireless network . I could not see the network manager icon in the systray . I used ifconfig and saw that the entry for eth1 was missing .I used ifup eth1 and it said that eth1 was already up . Then i installed wifi-radar . Wifi-Radar detected the wireless network . I configured wifi-radar for the detected wireless network , set the wap driver as wext and used the manual IP settings . However on clicking connect wifi-radar started looking for a DHCP IP , needless to say it failed . For the love of god i cannot understand why wifi-radar is using DHCP when i have specified manual settings . Next i decided to use the wired network to surf the net looking for a solution . So i plugged in the network cable from my modem , it detected the plugged in connection , i configured eth0 , used pppoeconf and connected to the net . Then i foolishly decided to reboot my PC . And wonders of wonders , the same problem appeared . I cannot see eth0 in my ifconfig anymore . i used pon to start the dsl-provider connection and it said something about network error or something . Now my ifconfig shows only lo , both eth0 and eth1 have disappeared .Can anybody help me on this ? Is it a problem with ipv6 , if so how do you disable ipv6 on ubuntu 10.10 ? OR is this is a known issue with ubuntu 10.10 ? .PS : 1) i tried linux mint 10 and had the same issue . on rebooting wireless network was not getting detected . 2) i have made myself the administrator so that there is no issue of rights or anything.     I just fixed up an old laptop by installing Lubuntu 13.04. The laptop does not have a network card, so it can only connect via Ethernet. I created a hotspot with an Ubuntu laptop, but am having trouble connecting to it via wired. I am not asked for a password when I try to connect, even though the network has a password. The hotspot will not enable a wired connection, so that may be the problem. How can I connect a Lubuntu laptop to an Ubuntu laptop hotspot via Ethernet? Update: The connection also does not ask for a password when connecting to a gaming adapter.
