  Hi all, I have upgraded my gallery2 to gallery3, and notice that some links no longer resolve correctly. Since the proper way is to redirect these with a 301, that is the way I'm going. The following series need redirecting: folders: old: http://photo.meulie.net/v/various/Gry/ new: http://photo.meulie.net/various/Gry/ pages: old: http://photo.meulie.net/v/Jacob/02112008310.jpg.html new: http://photo.meulie.net/Jacob/02112008310 (both are of course just examples. there are 100's of folders & files to redirect...) • How to Draw texture between 2 Vector3

  My scenario: RTS combat style, 1 unit fires beam on another unit My problem is i want to draw a flat texture between 2 Vector3 points. I have looked at various Billboarding styles but that doesn't give me a proper solution. I looked at this: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb464051.aspx is BasicEffect and DrawPrimitives the correct solution just stretch the texture to the distance between point of origin to target? I used the quad class they used but i found this it seemed to inflexible So my question to you is how would i go about this sort of problem? Regards

• Uninstall ubuntu from external hard drive + remove bootloader from internal hd

  I have created a bootable usb stick with linuxlive and Ubuntu.I then tried to install ubuntu on my external harddrive. However I guess I wrongly picked the drive where the boot section is installed, it now is installed on my internal (C:) drive. When I open the bios bootsequence it says Ubuntu 2 times? As if the boot is installed twice? I'd like to uninstall Ubuntu from my external drive but most important: I don't want Grub to be start up on my PC. I tried booting in Windows 8 recovery mode and used the following commands: bootrec /fixmbr bootrec /fixboot However the ubuntu choices wont disappear? I then tried to add bootrec /scanos and bootrec /rebuildbcd to the commands but somehow this wont work either. Anyone got some ideas? Thank you in advance! Best regards, Bart

  I'm developing a prototype of a web application. I want to only use HTML, CSS and Javascript. I prefer to use my text editor and not having to learn (or pay, for that matter) a new tool like Axure. What would be, to your mind, the best practices? To me there are many qualities for a good prototype: Quickly developed Easy to improve Fair fidelity as regards UX (this disqualifies tools like Omnigraffle or PowerPoint that are more dedicated to wireframing) I trying to learn as quickly as possible, but I would like to know, based on your experience, on how you managed to be both quick and agile. • Ubuntu 12.10 installation in virtual box

  I am trying to install Ubuntu 12.10 as guest in virtual box in Windows 7 machine. After intallation and copying the files it asks me to restart Now and I click that button but I get an error that Virtual box stopped working and it prompts me to close the virtual box. When i restart Virtual box, Status in the Ubuntu is displayed as Aborted and after restarting it tries to reinstall Ubuntu. I have tried thrice. Please guide me how to resolve this issue. • Network Multiplayer in Flash

  Flash has come a long way in the last decade, and it's a well-kept secret getting a flash game to connect to a multi-client server for chat and/or basic avatar movement in real time. Why has the industry as a whole not made this a common-knowledge type of thing yet? We keep pushing to the web but I am finding it incredibly difficult gathering learning material on this subject. Sure, I can find multi-client server socket tutorials in various languages (using select statements and/or threads to handle multiple socket connections), but in regards to Flash applications inside of a browser? NOPE! Can everyone please share what they know? :] It's a subject I'd really love to get into but I'm afraid I just honestly don't know enough about how to do it. Thanks!

• Graphics Driver problem, ATI Radeon HD 3200, small screen size and slows everything down.

  Regards. I am using a: 2009 Compaq Presario CQ40-415AU Notebook AMD Athlon X2 Dual core Processor 2.1 GHz 1024 MB L2 cache 3GB DDR2 RAM ATI Radeon + HD 3200 Graphics 256 MB, screen is 14 inch widescreen with resolution of 1280*800. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 32bit on my laptop. It works brilliantly until I installed graphics driver. When I installed the driver, the graphics became slow. Everything slowed down. Even the splash screen resolution changed to something like 640*480. I have liked Ubuntu since 9.10 and for the freedom it provides and its versatility, but graphics problem remains the same. I even installed Ubuntu on a 50 GB partition with 6 GB swap partition. My HDD is 320 GB. Please tell me what is wrong.

  I was using ibus-avro with ibus input method to write Bengali in Ubuntu 12.04. Recently I have upgraded Ubuntu from 12.04 to 12.10, now ibus-avro was removed. I have tried to install it again but was getting error message as follows Some packages could not be installed. • smartctl not returning on HBA that's secure-erasing a different drive

  Whenever I run smartctl -i /dev/sd* where * is a drive that is plugged into the same host bus adapter as another drive that is currently being erased with an hdparm secure erase command, the smart command will just 'hang' and not return (blocked) until the erasure of the other drive is finished. To make matters worse you can't cntrl-c out of it. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there another way to retrieve smart data from a drive, which doesn't block? I noticed that I can still use the udevadm command to retrieve the serial and model of the drive which is useful but doesn't appear to have any smart data. Any information relating to this matter is appreciated, especially if you can tell me another way to retrieve the S.M.A.R.T data that might work. Regards, Stuart

• HTML5 mobile game development vs. native game apps

  What is the current state of game engines, frameworks, libraries and conversions related to the HTML5 set of technologies (including CSS3 and JavaScript libraries such as RaphaelJS, Impact, gameQuery); and how does the best of that compare with developing a native app (especially for iOS and Android)? Especially in terms of performance, visuals and getting that "native feel". Thoughts on solutions such as Appcelerator and Corona SDK are also appreciated. In regards to Unity3D, is it possible to develop in it and still have the game be playable on a browser (such as current releases of Chrome or Firefox, at least) without any dependencies or having the user install anything (no unity web player). What I'm looking for is how to develop in web standards as to reach the maximum number of platforms (including outside mobile) while still retaining a native experience for mobile without having to implement the game anew for iOS and Android.

• Can't connect to my own wifi network

  I use ubuntu 12.04 on various differents laptops/netbooks on my home. I was able to connect to my own wifi network. But sometimes, I couldn't connect to my wifi network, it ask me for password again and again. After many tries (a lot of them), sometimes I can connect, but sometimes I can't. I have this problem with a Samsung netbook and with a HP laptop. Right now, I can't connect with the HP laptop. I'll be grateful for any help. Best regards, Nicolás

• Should I avoid SharePoint Development in Visual Studio?

  Not long ago I started an internship at a company that supplies SharePoint consultancy, hosting and development. While their consultancy seems to be pretty good and solid, I feel their development department lacks direction. The reason for this, most likely, is that they stopped outsourcing not too long ago. One thing that I've frequently bumped my head into is the following: My supervisor strongly insists that everything that can be done natively in SharePoint (somehow this includes editing xslt files in Designer) should be done in SharePoint. Even if this results in longer development time (at least when they make me write XSLT) and reduced usability. Her main arguments for this are: Better maintainability Editing the functionality doesn't require programming knowledge I feel the company is a little biassed and I am unable to get a decent discussion going. This is why I am looking for other places to get some responses on the subject (and not only on the arguments of my supervisor, but more on the subject in general). Kind regards

I am currently reading a book named "3D Graphics with XNA Game Studio 4.0" by Sean James and have some questions to ask : If i create a effect parameter named lets say SpecularPower and have in my effect a variable named SpecularPower , if i do something like effect.Parameters["SpecularPower"].SetValue(3) That wil change the SpecularPower variable in my effect ? And a second question, not regarding the book : If i have a spaceship and i've created a "boost" functionality that speeds up my spaceship, what effects should i implement to create the impresion oh high speed ? • Backup all home folders on usb disk and accessibility

  I am using Ubuntu 12.04 and have multiple family members working on it with there own home folder. I have an USB disk and want to use it to backup my home folders. Trying this, I got some questions. When my disk auto mount, it is not visible for each user. It seams to be visible for the user the time I connect the usb disk. I want to create one folder per home on the usb disk to backup the data to. But when I format the disk in EXT4 or FAT for example it is Read Only.   I am involved on a project to talk to communities about the risks of posting online content is social networks. But this time I was really impressed how far security concerns can go. This video from CBS news talks about security risks related to corporate fax/printers and scanners. It was very clear that when they got the machines they selected the machines by previous owner and they were not random machines, but still, I will never scan from my company machine again. • Reinstall Ubuntu keeping my data intact

  I have recently upgraded my desktop OS from ubntu 12.04 to 12.10 (complete reinstall). Before the switch i made a list of all programs installed on my Ubuntu 12.04. sudo dpkg --get-selections > file After that i reinstalled Ubuntu 12.10 and when all was done i performed the following command: sudo dpkg --set-selections < file sudo apt-get dselect-upgrade Here is when the problems start, I get several warnings like this when performing the commands above: dpkg: warning: package not in database at line xxx and many of the programs is not installed. I don't know what the line means. I have serched the web and it seems that I'm not the only one suffering from this but I have not find any solution that worked for me.   When I open an avi file under Gnome Mplayer, there is an error report: Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_nvidia.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I then followed this blog to solve this problem, which suggests two ways. The first way is to call mplayer in terminal: mplayer -vo xv video.wmv This works for me. But I would like to try the second way, which is to write options in one of the configure files of Gnome Mplayer. I choose to write into ~/.mplayer/config, where I wrote: -vo xv But it does not work. So I was wondering if I make any mistake? What to write into the configure file? Thanks and regards!
