  • Using xsl:key to store result of boolean expression

    - by hielsnoppe
In my transformation there is an expression some elements are repeatedly tested against. To reduce redundancy I'd like to encapsulate this in an xsl:key like this (not working): <xsl:key name="td-is-empty" match="td" use="not(./node()[normalize-space(.) or ./node()])" /> The expected behaviour is the key to yield a boolean value of true in case the expression is evaluated successfully and otherwise false. Then I'd like to use it as follows: <xsl:template match="td[not(key('td-is-empty', .))]" /> Is this possible and in case yes, how?

  • nested for-each loops in xml

    - by user1748443
    I'm new to XML. I'm trying to create table containing item details and another table to contain customer details for each order on a picklist. It seems like it should be straightforward but I just get a list of all items on all orders repeated by the number of orders. What am I doing wrong? (XSL code below...) <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl = "http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"> <xsl:output method="html" doctype-system="about:legacy-compat"/> <xsl:template match="/"> <html xmlns = "http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta charset="utf-8"/> <link rel="stylesheet" type="css/text" href="style.css"/> <title>Orders</title> </head> <body> <xsl:for-each select="//order"> <table> <caption><h3>Order Information</h3></caption> <thead> <th align="left">Item Id</th> <th align="left">Item Description</th> <th align="left">Quantity</th> <th align="left">Price</th> </thead> <xsl:for-each select="//item"> <tr> <td align="left"><xsl:value-of select="itemId"/></td> <td align="left"><xsl:value-of select="itemName"/></td> <td align="left"><xsl:value-of select="quantity"/></td> <td align="left"><xsl:value-of select="price"/></td> </tr> </xsl:for-each> </table> <table> <caption><h3>Customer Information</h3></caption> <thead> <th align="left">Customer Name</th> <th align="left">Street</th> <th align="left">City</th> </thead> <xsl:for-each select="//item"> <tr> <td align="left"><xsl:value-of select="customerName"/></td> <td align="left"><xsl:value-of select="street"/></td> <td align="left"><xsl:value-of select="city"/></td> </tr> </xsl:for-each> </table> </xsl:for-each> </body> </html> </xsl:template> </xsl:stylesheet> This is the XML: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="Orders.xsl"?> <orders xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="Orders.xsd"> <order> <orderId>123</orderId> <items> <item> <itemId>001</itemId> <itemName>Nylon Rope</itemName> <quantity>1</quantity> <price>3.50</price> </item> <item> <itemId>002</itemId> <itemName>Shovel</itemName> <quantity>1</quantity> <price>24.95</price> </item> </items> <customerAddress> <customerName>Larry Murphy</customerName> <street>Shallowgrave Lane</street> <city>Ballymore Eustace, Co. • Filtering most out of XML with XSL?

    - by Gnudiff
I need to transform a lot of XML files (Fedora export) into a different kind of XML. Trying to do it with XSL stylesheets and checking with the msxsl transformer. Supposedly I have xml file like this (assuming there are actually other nodes inside AAA, OBJ, amd all other nodes), Source.XML: <DOC> <AAA> <STUFF>example</STUFF> <OBJ> <OBJVERS id="A1" CREATED="2008-02-18T13:28:08.245Z"/> <OBJVERS id="A2" CREATED="2008-02-19T10:42:41.965Z"/> <OBJVERS id="A13" CREATED="2009-03-16T12:43:11.703Z"/> </OBJ> </AAA> <FFF/> <GGG/> <DDD> <FILE /> </DDD> </DOC> Which I need to look something like this (Target.XML): <MYOBJ> <ELEM>contents of OBJVERS with the biggest id OR creation date (whichever is easier to do) go here</ELEM> <IMAGE> contents of <FILE> node go here</IMAGE> </MYOBJ> The main problem that I have is that since I am new to XSL (and for this particular task do not have enough time to learn it properly) is that I can't understand how to tell XSL processor not to process anything else, I keep getting output from , for example. Update: basically, I solved this problem meanwhile. I will post my own answer and close the question. Update2: OK, Andrew's answer works, too, so I am just accepting it. :)

  • How do I prevent duplicates, in XSL?

    - by LOlliffe
    How do I prevent duplicate entries into a list, and then ideally, sort that list? What I'm doing, is when information at one level is missing, taking the information from a level below it, to building the missing list, in the level above. Currently, I have XML similar to this: <c03 id="ref6488" level="file"> <did> <unittitle>Clinic Building</unittitle> <unitdate era="ce" calendar="gregorian">1947</unitdate> </did> <c04 id="ref34582" level="file"> <did> <container label="Box" type="Box">156</container> <container label="Folder" type="Folder">3</container> </did> </c04> <c04 id="ref6540" level="file"> <did> <container label="Box" type="Box">156</container> <unittitle>Contact prints</unittitle> </did> </c04> <c04 id="ref6606" level="file"> <did> <container label="Box" type="Box">154</container> <unittitle>Negatives</unittitle> </did> </c04> </c03> I then apply the following XSL: <xsl:template match="c03/did"> <xsl:choose> <xsl:when test="not(container)"> <did> <!-- If no c03 container item is found, look in the c04 level for one --> <xsl:if test="../c04/did/container"> <!-- If a c04 container item is found, use the info to build a c03 version --> <!-- Skip c03 container item, if still no c04 items found --> <container label="Box" type="Box"> <!-- Build container list --> <!-- Test for more than one item, and if so, list them, --> <!-- separated by commas and a space --> <xsl:for-each select="../c04/did"> <xsl:if test="position() &gt; 1">, </xsl:if> <xsl:value-of select="container"/> </xsl:for-each> </container> </did> </xsl:when> <!-- If there is a c03 container item(s), list it normally --> <xsl:otherwise> <xsl:copy-of select="."/> </xsl:otherwise> </xsl:choose> </xsl:template> But I'm getting the "container" result of <container label="Box" type="Box">156, 156, 154</container> when what I want is <container label="Box" type="Box">154, 156</container> Below is the full result that I'm trying to get: <c03 id="ref6488" level="file"> <did> <container label="Box" type="Box">154, 156</container> <unittitle>Clinic Building</unittitle> <unitdate era="ce" calendar="gregorian">1947</unitdate> </did> <c04 id="ref34582" level="file"> <did> <container label="Box" type="Box">156</container> <container label="Folder" type="Folder">3</container> </did> </c04> <c04 id="ref6540" level="file"> <did> <container label="Box" type="Box">156</container> <unittitle>Contact prints</unittitle> </did> </c04> <c04 id="ref6606" level="file"> <did> <container label="Box" type="Box">154</container> <unittitle>Negatives</unittitle> </did> </c04> </c03> Thanks in advance for any help!

  • XSL: Dead or not dead

    - by Seattle Leonard
I'm currently taking on a new project at home. In this project I'm going to be generating HTML emails. For this purpose, I believe XSL to be a good candidate. However, I have heard people say that XSL is a dead language, and if it's not that it is on it's way out. In fact, MS has been very leary to support XSL 2.0. Personally I feel that any time you are going from text to text, it is a great tool. Such as: Generating HTML e-mails Creating Open Office Docs Generating another XML doc What are your thoughts? Is it dead, or is it still a viable, usefull tool?

  • Iteration, or copying in XSL, based on a count. How do I do it?

    - by LOlliffe
I'm trying to create an inventory list (tab-delimited text, for the output) from XML data. The catch is, I need to take the line that I created, and list it multiple times (iterate ???), based on a number found in the XML. So, from the XML below: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <library> <aisle label="AA"> <row>bb</row> <shelf>a</shelf> <books>4</books> </aisle> <aisle label="BB"> <row>cc</row> <shelf>d</shelf> <books>3</books> </aisle> </library> I need to take the value found in "books", and then copy the text line that number of times. The result looking like this: Aisle Row Shelf Titles AA bb a AA bb a AA bb a AA bb a BB cc d BB cc d BB cc d So that the inventory taker, can then write in the titles found on each shelf. I have the basic structure of my XSL, but I'm not sure how to do the "iteration" portion. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" exclude-result-prefixes="xs" xmlns:xd="http://www.oxygenxml.com/ns/doc/xsl" version="2.0"> <xsl:output omit-xml-declaration="yes"/> <xsl:variable name="tab" select="'&#09;'"/> <xsl:variable name="newline" select="'&#10;'"/> <xsl:template match="/"> <!-- Start Spreadsheet header --> <xsl:text>Aisle</xsl:text> <xsl:value-of select="$tab"/> <xsl:text>Row</xsl:text> <xsl:value-of select="$tab"/> <xsl:text>Shelf</xsl:text> <xsl:value-of select="$tab"/> <xsl:text>Titles</xsl:text> <xsl:value-of select="$newline"/> <!-- End spreadsheet header --> <!-- Start entering values from XML --> <xsl:for-each select="library/aisle"> <xsl:value-of select="@label"/> <xsl:value-of select="$tab"/> <xsl:value-of select="row"/> <xsl:value-of select="$tab"/> <xsl:value-of select="shelf"/> <xsl:value-of select="$tab"/> <xsl:value-of select="$tab"/> <xsl:value-of select="$newline"/> </xsl:for-each> <!-- End of values from XML --> <!-- Iteration of the above needed, based on count value in "books" --> </xsl:template> </xsl:stylesheet> Any help would be greatly appreciated. For starters, is "iteration" the right term to be using for this? Thanks!

  • XSL transformation and special XML entities escaping

    - by Tomas R
    I have an XML file which is transformed with XSL. Some elements have to be changed, some have to be left as is - specifically, text with entities &quot;, &amp;, &apos;, &lt;, &gt; should be left as is, and in my case &quot; and &apos; are changed to " and ' accordingly. Test XML: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> <root> <element> &quot; &amp; &apos; &lt; &gt; </element> </root> transformation file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" version="1.0"> <xsl:output method="xml" encoding="UTF-8" omit-xml-declaration="no" indent="no" /> <xsl:template match="element"> <xsl:copy> <xsl:value-of disable-output-escaping="no" select="." /> </xsl:copy> </xsl:template> </xsl:stylesheet> result: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <element> " &amp; ' &lt; &gt; </element> desired result: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <element> &quot; &amp; &apos; &lt; &gt; </element> I have 2 questions: why does some of those entities are transformed and other not? how can I get a desired result?

Given the following code: <database> <table name="table1"> <column name="id"/> <column name="created_at"/> </table> <table name="table2"> <column name="id"/> <column name="updated_at"/> </table> </database> I want to be able to test using an xsl:key if specific table has a specific column by name. For instance, I want to know if a table has a 'created_at' column so I can write specific code within the transformation. I've gotten a general key that will test if any table has a given column by name, but have not figured out how to make it specific to the table the transformation is currently working with. <xsl:key name="columnTest" match="column" use="@name"/> <xsl:for-each select="database/table"> <xsl:choose> <xsl:when test="key('columnTest', 'created_at')"> <xsl:text>true</xsl:text> </xsl:when> <xsl:otherwise> <xsl:text>false</xsl:text> </xsl:otherwise> </xsl:choose> </xsl:for-each> So I end up with 'true' for all the tables. Any guidance would be appreciated.
