  • How to stream video content in asp.net?

    Hi, I have the following code which downloads video content: WebRequest wreq = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(url); using (HttpWebResponse wresp = (HttpWebResponse)wreq.GetResponse()) using (Stream mystream = wresp.GetResponseStream()) { using (BinaryReader reader = new BinaryReader(mystream)) { int length = Convert.ToInt32(wresp.ContentLength); byte[] buffer = new byte[length]; buffer = reader.ReadBytes(length); Response.Clear(); Response.Buffer = false; Response.ContentType = "video/mp4"; //Response.BinaryWrite(buffer); Response.OutputStream.Write(buffer, 0, buffer.Length); Response.End(); } } But the problem is that the whole file downloads before being played. How can I make it stream and play as it's still downloading? Or is this up to the client/receiver application to manage?

  • ASP.Net HttpModule List<> content

    We have created an http module that loads data on initialize into a list, and uses that list on every endrequest event of application. However we got a null reference exception on the module at endRequest event complaining that the content is null. Yet we are sure that at module initialization we have put non-null objects correctly. How is this possible? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.   • ASP.NET MVC View ReRenders Part of Itself

    In all my years of .NET programming I have not run across a bug as weird as this one. I discovered the problem because some elements on the page were getting double-bound by jQuery. After some (ridiculous) debugging, I finally discovered that once the view is completely done rendering itself and all its children partial views, it goes back to an arbitrary yet consistent location and re-renders itself. I have been pulling my hair out about this for two days now and I simply cannot get it to render itself only once! For lack of any better debugging idea, I've painstakingly added logging tracers throughout the HTML just so I can pin down what may be causing this. For instance, this code ($log just logs to the console): ... <script type="text/javascript">var x = 0; $log('1');</script> <div id="new-ad-form"> <script type="text/javascript">x++;$log('1.5', x);</script> ... will yield ... <--- this happens before this snippet 1 1.5 1 ... 10 <--- bottom of my form, after snippet 1.5 2 <--- beginning of part that runs again! ... 9 <--- this happens after this snippet I've searched my codebase high and low, but there is NOTHING that says that it should re-render part of a page. I'm wondering if the jQueryUI has anything to do with it, as #new-ad-form is the container for a jQueryUI dialog box.     Hello, I am new to the code generation tools and I would like to know how does a tool like LLBGen Pro compares with the Entity Framework? On top of that my boos is really looking into a tool called CodeOnTime http://codeontime.com/default.aspx because he likes their good UI support. I am asking here because I really want an unbiased opinion. I am not sure if LLBGen can also generate the UI. So far all the development in the house we do it the classic way coding each layer manually. However we are in need of a fast prototyping tool. Any advice to help me choose wisely will be much appreciated thanks in advance.

  • DataAnnotations in ASP.NET MVC 2 - Stop MVC from applying RequiredAttribute to Non-nullable DateTime

    Im trying to create a custom version of the RequiredAttribute to replace the built in one and I've got it working for properties that have strings values, but with properties that are DateTime or integer for example, the default RequiredAttribute seems to be applied automatically (IF the property is not nullable!) My problem is that i want to be able to specify a DateTime property as required using my custom required validator which gets the error message from a resources file (I don't want to have to tell the RequiredAttribute the type of the resource file and the key every time i apply it. That is why I'm making a custom one.) How can i prevent the framework from applying the required attribute to properties of type DateTime and int etc without changing them to nullable. Thanks

    Hi, I'm binding a GridView to a domain model object, this domain model object has a method for working out a formatted value to display on the grid. I'd like to use this method for my display value, which is fine, but I'd also like to be able to sort on the value returned by that method. My sort expression can only take in a property/field at the moment. Help please! What do I need to do to get this to work? I'm using an SPGridView actually, but that doesn't make a lot of difference to my problem. Thanks.

    Currently I have two pages: The first page contains an input form, and the 2nd page generates an excel document. The input form's button posts to this 2nd page. What I'd like to do is add a second button which also posts to the 2nd page; however, I'll need requests created from this new button to act differently, which brings me to my question: Is there a way I can tell, from the 2nd page, which button was pressed to submit the request? The main reason I'm asking is I'd like to re-use the 2nd page's logic in parsing the information from the first page if possible; I'd rather not have to copy it to a new page and have the new button post to that.     i am not sure if this is the correct way of doing but i read that you not suppose to have a WCF Service Library reference in your web form project rather you add endpoints to your web.config, is that true? here is what i have done: 1) create a WCF service library project 2) create a simple service called "MyService.svc" WebForm: 1) Create a web project 2) create a WCF Service and in it i have this code <%@ ServiceHost Language="C#" Service="WCFJQuery.ContactBLL.Implementation.ContactUs" Factory="System.ServiceModel.Activation.WebScriptServiceHostFactory" %> 3) right click on the web proejct and "Add Reference" and add teh MyService.dll reference from WCF service library project. is this something how you suppose to do?

    I'm in the middle of developing an e-commerce site that is using Paypal as it's payment gateway. All I want to do is run some code before the user heads off to Paypal to pay for their order, but I have no idea how to do it. The user should click a submit button, changes are made (in this case, the status of the order), and then the user is redirected to the payment gateway. Eg: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult GoToPaypal(FormCollection collection) { //change order status //send user to paypal where they pay for their order } So my question is how do you do application stuff and then redirect to paypal's payment gateway? Obviesly you have @Html.ValidationSummary() in your View and Model has all required properties attributes. The data that was entered into the form was preserved and displayed again when the view was rendered with the validation summary. My question is how data preserved?     Given this POCO class that was automatically generated by an EntityFramework T4 template (has not and can not be manually edited in any way): public partial class Customer { [Required] [StringLength(20, ErrorMessage = "Customer Number - Please enter no more than 20 characters.")] [DisplayName("Customer Number")] public virtual string CustomerNumber { get;set; } [Required] [StringLength(10, ErrorMessage = "ACNumber - Please enter no more than 10 characters.")] [DisplayName("ACNumber")] public virtual string ACNumber{ get;set; } } Note that "ACNumber" is a badly named database field, so the autogenerator is unable to generate the correct display name and error message which should be "Account Number". So we manually create this buddy class to add custom attributes that could not be automatically generated: [MetadataType(typeof(CustomerAnnotations))] public partial class Customer { } public class CustomerAnnotations { [NumberCode] // This line does not work public virtual string CustomerNumber { get;set; } [StringLength(10, ErrorMessage = "Account Number - Please enter no more than 10 characters.")] [DisplayName("Account Number")] public virtual string ACNumber { get;set; } } Where [NumberCode] is a simple regex based attribute that allows only digits and hyphens: [AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Property)] public class NumberCodeAttribute: RegularExpressionAttribute { private const string REGX = @"^[0-9-]+$"; public NumberCodeAttribute() : base(REGX) { } } NOW, when I load the page, the DisplayName attribute works correctly - it shows the display name from the buddy class not the generated class. BUT the [NumberCode] attribute in the buddy class does not even get applied to the AccountNumber property: foreach (ValidationAttribute attrib in prop.Attributes.OfType<ValidationAttribute>()) { // This collection correctly contains all the [Required], [StringLength] attributes // BUT does not contain the [NumberCode] attribute ApplyValidation(generator, attrib); } Why does the prop.Attributes.OfType<ValidationAttribute>() collection not contain the [NumberCode] attribute? NumberCode inherits RegularExpressionAttribute which inherits ValidationAttribute so it should be there. If I manually move the [NumberCode] attribute to the autogenerated class, then it is included in the prop.Attributes.OfType<ValidationAttribute>() collection. So what I don't understand is why this particular attribute does not work in when in the buddy class, when other attributes in the buddy class do work. And why this attribute works in the autogenerated class, but not in the buddy. Any ideas? Also why does DisplayName get overriden by the buddy, when StringLength does not?

    Hi, I have a MVC app where I have a User class and the user can also impersonate another user(Admin users only). So I have this code below that authenticates the request and instantiates my version of a User class. It then tries to get the impersonated user from the Session object but Session is not available in this method in the global.asax. Hope this makes sense.   • Edit and Create view using EditCreate.ascx partial in ASP.NET MVC

    If you look at the NerdDinner example of creating and editing dinners then you see they use a partial (ViewUserControl or ASCX) DinnerForm to put the functionality of creating and editing dinners into one file because it is essential the same and they use it using RenderPartial("DinnerForm"). This approach seems fine for me but I've run into a problem where you have to add additonal route values or html properties to the Form tag. This picks up the current action and controller automatically: <% using (Html.BeginForm()) { %> However, if I use another BeginForm() overload which allows to pass in enctype or any other attribute I have to do it like this: <% using ("Create", "Section", new { modal = true }, FormMethod.Post, new { enctype = "multipart/form-data" })) and as you can see we lose the ability to automatically detect in which View we are calling RenderPartial("OurCreateEditFormPartial"). We can't have hardcoded values in there because in Edit View this postback will fail or won't postback to the right controller action. What should I do in this case?

From reading several resources I learned that you should create your own IPrinciple which holds this. But I don't want to trigger the database every authentication request. Any recommendations on how to handle this?     I've got a Site.Master file I've created to be my template for the majority of the site, with a navigation. This navigation is dynamically created, based on a recursive Entity (called Page) - Pages with a parentID of 0 are top level, and naturally each child carries it's parent's Id in that field. I've created a quick little HTML Helper that accepts the ID of an Page and generates the nav by doing a foreach on the children that have a parentId matching the passed Id. On the majority of the site, I want the Site.Master to use a parentId of 0, but if I'm on a strongly typed View displaying a Page, I naturally want to use the Id of the page. Is there a way to do such conditional logic in a Site.Master (and, does that violate MVC rules)? "If I'm on a strongly typed Page of /Page/{Id}, use the Id render nav, else use 0"

    dears, when try to publish my mroject I get this error: Error 3 Task failed because "AL.exe" was not found, or the correct Microsoft Windows SDK is not installed. The task is looking for "AL.exe" in the "bin" subdirectory beneath the location specified in the InstallationFolder value of the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A. You may be able to solve the problem by doing one of the following: 1) Install the Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows Server 2008 and .NET Framework 3.5. 2) Install Visual Studio 2008. 3) Manually set the above registry key to the correct location. 4) Pass the correct location into the "ToolPath" parameter of the task.
