  • LInux C++: how do profile time wasted due to cache misses?

    I know that I can use gprof to benchmark my code. However, I have this problem -- I have a smart pointer that has an extra level of indirection (think of it as a proxy object). As a result, I have this extra layer that effects pretty much all functions, and screws with caching. Is there a way to measure the time my CPU wastes due to cache misses? Thanks!

    I want to cache all the images on my site, so I used this code: <%Response.AddHeader "Expires","Tue, 2 October 2013 00:00:00 GMT"%> The problem is that google says the images are not cached, whenever I go to this site: https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed Also in chrome, I can see that it gives a Get response for all the images. Why is that and how can I cache the images for the next year.

    I watched Nicholas Zakas' talk, Speed up your Javascript, with some interest. I liked how he benchmarked the various performance improvements created by various optimization techniques, e.g. reducing calls to deeply nested objects, changing loops to count down instead of up, etc. I would like to run these benchmarks myself though, to see exactly how our current browsers are faring. I guess it wouldn't be too difficult to cook up some timed loops, but I'd like to know if there are any existing implementations out there.

    I'm looking for a good multi-thread-aware debugger, capable of showing performance charts of application threads on Linux, don't know if such a thing exists, perhaps as a Eclipse plugin. The idea would be to track per thread memory allocation a CPU usage as well as being able to interrupt a thread and examine its stack trace, local vars, etc. It does not have to be an eclipse plugin or a free tool, do any of you have heard of something similar?

    I have a bunch of 200X120 thumbnails and a bunch of high quality images, Apparently when I just resize the thumbnails with img size the quality suffers, so we are loading two images from the server the image thumbnail and the actual, I am just trying to optimize my site for speed a little saw someone mention embedding thumbs in the image, does anyone know a program that does that?     I'm trying to make a simple animation with Flash CS4 and Action Script 3.0 to make a number of Symbols fly by from right to left constantly. What I want is that once a symbol has reached the end of the screen it is destroyed and another one is placed at the start position. I intend to give each symbol a random speed and create a random symbol each time one is 'destroyed'. Any clues where I can start?
