  I am using jquery.fancybox-1.2.1.js of fancy box in asp.net application Q1: In the base page i have datagrid and on combobox. on slection of combobox the datagrid is populated. From the datagrid I open the fancybox when user click on Edit link. I open new page like In EditProjectTask.aspx i have the controls in edible mode. Now if user closes the window using default icon provided in fancybox. then if user select some other option from combox the url changes into EditProjectTask?Task= 86 Q2: # From the # datagrid I open the fancybox when user click on Edit link. I open new page like In EditProjectTask.aspx i have the controls in edible mode. Now when user updates the the content I want to close the fancybox and also refresh the parent window. I have achieved this using After update i # But it reloads all the page. Can I use some Ajax call.

• ASP.NET jQuery Ajax posting forms

  Hi, I can't seem to get the jQuery.ajax() function posting back any of my asp.net generated form controls. I've put a break point on the server side and there aren't any values. Is there a way around this or do I have to build up a list of what I want sent back? Another question slightly off topic, but it seems that although jQuery is a great JS library, it doesn't seem to integrate too well with .net. Has anyone given up with jQuery to perform server side interaction and just gone with ms ajax implementation?

• Set timeout on third-party file request with jQuery

  I'm trying to integrate a script file hosted by a third party into a new web site. Currently, I'm adding a SCRIPT tag to the DOM for that third-party script file on document ready: $(document).ready( function() { var extScript = document.createElement('script'); extScript.type = 'text/javascript'; extScript.src = 'http://third-party.com/scriptfile.js'; $('head').append(extScript); }); function extScriptCallback() { $('#extWidgetContainer').show(); } But sometimes that third-party script file request times out or takes a long time to respond. So, for the sake of best practice, I want to provide alternative content if the external script takes longer than e.g. 10 seconds to load. How do I achieve this? I've looked at JavaScript's native setTimeout(), as well as jQuery's delay() function, but I'm not sure which I should use--or how. Grateful for any suggestions.

• Javascript Pointers question with Dates

  I noticed this situation in my code (unfortunately), and was able to duplicate it in my own JS file. So I have this code: var date1 = new Date(); // today var date2 = date1; date2 = date2.setDate(date2.getDate() + 1); // what is date1? After this code executes, date1 is today's date + 1! This harkens back to my undergrad days when I learned about pointers, and I guess I'm a little rusty. Is that what's happening here? Obviously I've moved the assignment away from date1, and am only modifying date2, but date1 is being changed. Why is this the case? Incidentally, after this code executes date2 is a long number like 1272123603911. I assume this is the number of seconds in the date, but shouldn't date2 still be a Date object? setDate() should return a Date object... Thanks for the help.

  Ok, I'm trying to come to grips with this nextSibling function in JS. Here's my issue within the following code... var fromRow = document.getElementById("row_1"); while(fromRow.nodeType == 1 && fromRow.nextSibling != null) { var fRowId = fromRow.id; if (!fRowId) continue; // THIS ONLY gets done once and alerts "row_1" ONLY :( alert(fRowId); fromRow = fromRow.nextSibling; } Ok can someone please tell me what is wrong with this code? There are siblings next to this document.getElementById("row_1"); element for sure as I can see them, and they all have id attributes, so why is it not getting the id attributes of the siblings?? I don't get it. row_1 is a TR element, and I need to get the TR elements next to it within this table, but for some reason, it only gets the 1 element that I can already get using document.getElementById, arggg.   I have a control in ASP.NET MVC that spits out JavaScript in the page header (in the view page). I derive some values from the current view name (including its case). Let's say we are talking about the path: /Home/Index - my control spits out JavaScript to call a function with the view name - in its exact case - e.g. someFunction('Index'). Now when I try to navigate to my view using '/home/index', the view name is returned as 'index' which is causing issues in my JavaScript as I rely on the casing for it on the JS side. Is there any way to know the exact view name (as it was defined) from the path that got mapped into this view.

• best way to access/create SITE_ROOT and SERVER_ROOT values in PHP?

  I need 2 different paths, one for includes and one for js/css etc. I'm using mod_rewrite. The below works fine.... Currently all my files contain this at the top define('SERVER_ROOT', 'C:/wamp/www/site_folder/'); define('SITE_ROOT', 'http://localhost/site_folder/'); and then files are called like so: require_once SERVER_ROOT . 'st_wd_assets/inc/func_st_wd.php'; <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="<?php echo SITE_ROOT;?>st_pages/user_area/css/user_area.css" media="screen"/> as you can probably see, it's going to be a massive chore to update the top of every file everytime i move versions between the localhost and my live server. What's the best/standard way of defining these ROOT values? I can't see a solution in the $_SERVER super global? Do people normally just use VirtualHosts? But then wouldn't it still be necessary to define ROOT constants?

I just don't know how to insert it into the js code. If I do it like this: addOption(list, "Cars", "&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Cars"); Then the &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; comes into the text, so it gets displayed for the users. However I need it to be interpreted as "space"... If you don't understand let me know... How can I do this? Quotes, double quotes etc? Thanks

• Why does Microsoft's IE even exists?

  For real what is the point? Why can't it display pages properly like Chrome, safari or Firefox? If you want to make a web application (modern 2.0 site) that supports IE you will end up almost doubling your coding time as IE has its own interpretation of things. PLUS they just keep on changing how it renders pages from version to version (5,6,7,8) unbelievable. Microsoft hates web designers. i used to handle rendering problems with extra JS scripts and CSS files but i had enoughs of this $hit all over my pages: <!--[if IE]> .... <!--[if IE 8]> .... <!--[if IE 7]> .... <!--[if IE 6]> .... No more IE support for any of my projects, So you guys think im exaggerating or IE is really a pain in the @@$?

  Disregard this question: I've simply confused <script src="..."></script> tag and <script> [some functions] </scipt> tags. I have this function function OnLoad() { ShowHideConfirmAnswers(); return true; } triggered by onload event: <body onload=OnLoad()> It works fine until I add src="jquery-1.4.2.js" to the script element. From this moment I get "OnLoad is not defined" error, and the same happens to every other javascript function.

  Hello, I currently have the following js code function clearMulti(option) { var i; var select = document.getElementById(option.parentNode.id); for(i=1;i<select.options.length;i++) { select.options[i].selected=false; } } and function clearAllOpt(select) { select.options[0].selected = false; } The first one deselects all options in the multiple select when called and the second clears the first option whenever anything else is selected. The need for this is that the first option is for All. This all works fine and dandy in FF, but in IE8 nothing happens... any suggestions on how to get this to work in both? Thanks in advance.

There is a utility (.jar file) which when I use command line makes a remote call (I guess this is a Web Service) which returns me the data. how do I best incorporate this into my webapplication described on top? My application front end will have a Button that should make an AJAX call to the REST Interface and fetch the data as JSON.   So, I understand that browser detection (ie. navigator.userAgent) shouldn't be used to decide which object method/property to use; yet, I want to set some simple CSS with JavaScript depending on the browser. However, it's not enough to justify a completely new StyleSheet. So is it OK if I use Browser Detection to decide what CSS to apply to an element? EDIT Ok, let's be SPECIFIC. I'm talking about a text-shadow inside a button (<input type="button"/>) The text inside the button isn't vertically centered in all browsers, so I tweak this with JS depending on the browser.

• attaching multiple files to a domain class

  I've seen various Grails plugins which allow easier handling of file uploads, however these tend only to support a single file per form-submit. I'd like a multi-attach form where as soon as you pick one file, an extra field and button is added using JS (various sites do it like this). Do you know of any good plugins which provide elegant uploading of multiple files without excessive coding? A progress bar either per-file of for the whole process would also be very nice. I don't know to what extent I can allow GORM to handle a java.io.File field (or in this case a Collection<File>).

• Prevent initial array from sorting

  I have an array where the order of the objects is important for when I finally output the array in a document. However, I'm also sorting the array in a function to find the highest value. • Render view as string when Ajax request to view is made

  I have my views render to route requests like /controller/action (for instance, /Page/Create), so pretty classic. I am creating a form where view will be loaded through AJAX request with jQuery get(), so essentially I need my Views or to be precise, my controller actions, to return plain HTML string when an AJAX request is made to the route that renders the View. • How do I get artifacts from one Maven module included in the resources of another in my build?

  I have Maven modules that produce a Flex application as an SWF file. I want to include that file in a web application that is made with another Maven module from the same build. I'm wondering how and at which lifecycle phase I get Maven to grab the artifact from the other module and put it insode the appropriate folder of the webapp module. Would I use a separate assembly module? The web app is running on a Jetty server in an OSGi environment (using Pax), the server side of the web app uses Struts. The final artifact as I see it would be a WAR file including my Action etc classes, JSP templates, static contents such as CSS or JS, and the SWF movies. I might be better off with these split over some other setup, but right now, I wouldn't know which.
