  Hey everyone, I know it’s been an eternity since I blogged but I have so much to do that I unfortunately need to prioritize.  Vincent Grondin and I did a 7h presentation on the new developer and tester tools available in the VS 2010 suite.  It was a blast.  We did it in front of an audience (around 120) and it was taped.  We did it as a play and really didn’t look at the crowd at all we were training each other on the technology.   RadMaskedTextBox is one of the major controls in the Telerik Silverlight suite. It enables you to filter the user input and makes the work with data much more easier for the end-user. That is why in the past quarter (Q1) we put a great effort and get all the scenarios and users reports that we had so far and made this control as stable as possible. Now post Q1 we added some small, but important new features to the control. Here they are: Option to get the changed value when the focus of the control is lost.   Do you like the challenge of fast-paced games? Then get ready to put yourself to the test with the Air Hockey extension for Google Chrome during company time. Air Hockey in Action There are two ways that you can play Air Hockey…either using the drop-down window or opening the game in a new tab. For our example we chose to play in a new tab. Before starting the game you can choose the difficulty level, to enable/disable the sound, and/or to go to full screen if desired. Note: Screenshot of “Full Screen” version shown below. While playing you really have to stay on top of things…the computer player will beat you rather quickly if you do not. Hustle hustle hustle! With a little bit of practice it does become easier but even the “Easy Level” on this game will keep you busy. If the normal size game screen seems just a bit small you can easily get a larger version using the “Full Screen Link” below the game window. Whether your browser is non-maximized as shown here or totally maximized it will fill the entire browser window area. Conclusion If you like fast paced games then the Air Hockey extension certainly fits that criteria and will keep you on your toes. • Alert for Forms customers running Oracle Forms 10g

  Doesn’t time fly!  While you might have been happily running your Forms 10g applications for about 5 years or so now, the end of premier support is creeping up and you need to start planning for a move to Oracle Forms 11g. The premier support end date in December 31st 2011 and this is documented in Note: 1290974.1 available from MOS. So how much of an impact is this going to be?  Maybe not as much as you think.  While Forms 11g is based on WebLogic Server (WLS),10g was based  on OC4J.  That in itself doesn’t impact Forms much.  In most case it will simply be a recompile of your Forms source files and redeploy on WLS 11g. The Forms builder is the same in 11g as in 10g although its currently not available as a separate download from the main middleware bundle.  You can also look at a WLS Basic license option which means you shouldn’t have to shell out on upgrading to a WLS Suite license option. So what’s the proof in this being a relatively straightforward upgrade?  Well, we’ve had a big uptake of Forms 11g already (which has itself been out for over 2 years).  Read about BT Expedite’s upgrade where “The upgrade of Forms from Oracle Forms 10g to Oracle Forms 11g was relatively simple and on the whole, was just a recompilation”.  Or AMEC where “This has been one of the easiest Forms conversions we’ve ever done and it was a simple recompile in all cases” So if you are on 10g (or even earlier versions) I’d strongly consider starting your planning for an upgrade to 11g now.   If you are active in forums or comment areas on different websites then you most likely use some type of special characters, HTML, or other code throughout the day. Now you can easily insert commonly used “items” with the SKeys extension for Firefox. Your New Special Text Edit Bar After installing the extension you will see the new toolbar that has been added to your browser. These are the kinds of text that can be added to online comment areas, forums, or other website areas that allow their use: Special characters HTML tags BB codes Wiki characters All that you will need to do is click on the appropriate special character or code to insert it into the website text area. The first two toolbar items are each singular in their function and insert the following types of text. A look at the special characters available for your use. The wiki code menu. The HTML menu… And the BB code menu. Here is a quick sample using the HTML menu…much better than doing it manually. This should definitely help speed things up throughout the day. Our only disappointment during testing was not being able to add additional items (i.e. characters, tags) to the toolbar at this time. Conclusion While a new toolbar may not be for everyone this extension can certainly prove useful when you need to quickly add special characters or coding in website text areas. • Convert a Row to a Column (or Backwards) in Google Docs Spreadsheets

  If you have to deal with a lot of spreadsheets, you’re probably really bored right now. You also might be wondering how to turn a row into a column, or a column into a row. Here’s how to do it with Google Docs Spreadsheets. If you’re an Excel user, you’re also in luck, because we’ve already shown you how to turn a row into a column, or vice-versa. It won’t make you any less bored though. Convert a Row to a Column (or backwards) The first thing you’ll need is a column or a row of information that you want to convert into the opposite. For our example, we’ve got this set of data that we created by using the Auto Fill options in Google Docs. Now in another cell, you’ll need to use the TRANSPOSE function, which you can use by simply typing in the following: =TRANSPOSE( And then selecting the cells with the mouse, or manually typing in the range of cells you want to copy. The final function in this example was: =TRANSPOSE(A1:A11) Finish it off with the final ) character to complete the function, hit the Enter key, and there we are… the column was transposed over to the right. You can use the same thing to turn columns into rows, or rows into columns—just change the range you are looking for.   To conclude this week’s focus on customer experience, I’ll end by recapping how my week began in New York City at The Experience Revolution. We all know that customers increasingly call the shots, and that winning or losing depends on how well we manage to meet their expectations. Today’s customers have a multitude of choices and are quick to jump ship following a poor experience. As a result, delivering an experience that is relevant, interactive, engaging, and consistent across channels and fostering rewarding relationships are increasingly important to business success.  It is only through exceptional customer experiences that companies can expect to acquire new customers and maintain their loyalty.  Over 400 of us gathered at Gotham Hall on Monday night to hear Oracle President Mark Hurd introduce Oracle Customer Experience, a cross-stack suite of customer experience products that include Oracle RightNow CX Cloud Service, Oracle Endeca, Oracle ATG Web Commerce, Oracle WebCenter,Oracle Siebel CRM, Oracle Fusion CRM, Oracle Social Network, and Oracle Knowledge Management. I'd encourage you check out this video to hear Mark explain why having a good product isn't good enough in the wake of the customer experience revolution. • Exploring MDS Explorer by Mark Nelson

  Recently, I posted about my colleague Olivier’s MDS Explorer tool, which is a great way to get a look inside your MDS repository. I have been playing around with it a little bit, nothing much really, just some cosmetic stuff, but you might like to take a look at it. I made it format the documents nicely with proper indentation, and with line numbers and a nicer editor. It also will warn you if you are about to open a large document so that you know it has not crashed, but that you just have to be patient. And I added some icons and stuff.
