• Upgrade two computers on the same WIFI network from 12.04 to 12.10

  I have two computers on the same WIFI network at home. Both run on Ubuntu 12.04 and both will need to update to 12.10 shortly. There are some applications that are installed on one but not on the other and vice versa. But they share a large many applications. Please indicate how can I upgrade both in such a way that: I download all the packages required on Computer 1 Move the downloaded packages to the other computer using external HD (that is much quicker than over WIFI) Then upgrade Computer 1 Then upgrade Computer 2 -- after it downloads any packages that are not already available. Also, I am a newbie and would be grateful if the process is simple and properly explained.

• Webmatrix fails to connect PHP website to MySQL

  I downloaded the latest versions of Webmatrix and MySQL. I downloaded a PHP-MySQL Connector: http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/php-mysqlnd/ In the "Databases" Workspace I pressed "New Connection" button and choose "MySQL Connection" In the Dialog box I filled-in all connection details -- It looks like the database was added. But then when I double-click on the database, I get a short error message saying it cannot connect. I tried everything, searched the web... I'm sure it's a very simple question, so please whoever can help I'll be grateful. I think best solution for me would be if someone could please just give me a link to download of: Webmatrix,MySQL,Connector; and instructions on how to install and then how to connect. This would be the safest way to help me.

• Archive update fails while upgrading from 10.10 to 11.04

  I tried upgrading from Maverick to Natty, but the fetching of packages failed, when I tried to do a partial upgrade. It's displaying fetching complete, but actually it fails and I get following errors: Could not download the upgrades The upgrade has aborted. Please check your Internet connection or installation media and try again. All files downloaded so far are kept. Failed to fetch http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/m/mesa/libgl1-mesa-dri_7.10.1~git20110215.cc1636b6-0ubuntu1_i386.deb 404 Not Found I can't post more hyperlinks as per restrictions. EPM-specific instructions are available in Knowledge Management article 1304885.1. This RDA version incorporates two new modules (EAS=Essbase Administration Services; HWA=Hyperion Web Analysis) and improvements in modules and profiles relating to twelve other Hyperion applications (EPM, EPMA, ESS, FCM, HFM, HFR, HIR, HPL, HPSV, HSS, PR, and HSV). To follow best practice, run related RDA profiles [for example: "perl rda.pl -vnSCRPp Hyperion1112_EAS"] and attach the output zip file [by default in \rda\output\] to your service requests. How can I prevent people from looking at a listing of files in parent directory? http://oi56.tinypic.com/sc739e.jpg Also, is it possible for people to obtain a list of all the files in the root directory once I upload index.html? I'm currently using .htaccess and htusers to prompt someone to enter a username and password when they try to access any file in the root directory. This may sound like a weird request but would it be possible to have them come to the site (without an index.html) and just have them not see the files? All it would say on the page would be the following: Index of/ Apache Server at mysite.com Port 80

• FxCop ... Where have you been all my life?

  I was recently introduced to microsoft's tool that analyzes managed code assemblies called FxCop. It points out possible design, localization, performance, and security improvements against a pre defined set of rules (and also accepts custom rules). At first I was unsure how to go about using it as it seems to be aimed at software developers (.exe and .dll) . Its easy to get around this with the following steps: 1)Create a new folder (i.e C:\Code Analysis) 2)Publish your web application into the new folder 3)Open FxCop and add all the dll files from the newly created bin folder  to be scrutinized. • Using apt-get from Canada

  I am using Ubuntu Server 12.04 LTS, and until yesterday, everything was quite peachy. I have installed several packages (MySQL, apache2) and to my knowledge have those configured correctly. Upon configuration of phpMyAdmin, I found that I was missing the directory path /etc/phpmyadmin, which got me thinking about the install. I am new to Ubuntu, so I guess I missed the message telling me that I did not download phpMyAdmin successfully. Anyway, trying to use apt-get yesterday/today results in "Failed to fetch..." messages, even if just to run sudo apt-get update. Some notable details: ···no GUI, command line only (sudo apt-get gksu fails, go figure) ···can ping 4.2.2.2, so I know the internet is out there (somewhere) ···this is a dedicated computer, using Samba to share files with Windows, which does work ···attempted to edit my /sources.list file, for various American/Canadian mirror, to no effect ···ensured I have correct DNS settings in /etc/networks/interfaces I'm not sure where along the way it happened, but I seem to have lost connections to repositories... :) Any advice (including GO BACK TO WINDOWS) is appreciated.

• 12.04 LTE wireless not working in Dell Insprion E1405

  i have the windows XP media edition running on my Dell Inspiron E1405 with all the hardware working properly. Recently i wipe out the windows and installed the Ubuntu 12.04 LTE using the CD and the installation process completed successfully but my wireless stopped working after. computer wireless indicator turned off and i can't even do the wired connection as well. it is Broadcom BCM4311 adapter. i tried to download the driver from the dell website but they don't have the Linux version of the driver if its that causing the problem. i appreciate your help that can solve my issue. thank you.

• MP3 files downloaded from cloud incomplete/cut off (Android app)

  I noticed today on my phone (Droid X running Android 2.2.1) that when streaming the Ubuntu One app would skip to the next song before the previous one had finished. Looking into it, one of the mp3s downloaded from the server was only 2.5MB instead of 4.2MB as it shows on the server itself via one.ubuntu.com. It's happened with multiple tracks today (I remember it happening once the first time I used the app too but shrugged it off as a glitch). The app itself shows a star on the playlist item indicating the file was downloaded even though it was apparently cut off for some reason, perhaps lack of good cell coverage, or some sort of dropped connection. It seems like the latter may be happening and instead of showing an error or retrying it just stops and shows the download is complete.

  Pre: I'm new with Maven. I used a lot of ant before. Qst: I decided to switch my project to maven since there are a lot of dependencies. But I have custom step in package phase (I'm BB dev - packing and signing) which is not available in maven yet. To process these tasks I have to download additional execs/jars. Is it common/have sense in Maven philosophy to load additional tools? Sure I could call ant from maven but it's not a question. Any helpful book about maven phases, philosophy and uses?

• Replace Android on HP Slate 21?

  I want to replace Android with Ubuntu for Androids on my new HP Slate 21. As far as I known none has ever tried it yet and I would appreciate if Ask Ubuntu would help out here. Would I need to unlock & root first my machine? (In which case I will need a second machine plugged to my Slate...) Or can I just insert the bootable usb with the distribution I need and go from there as in a normal non-optical drive situation? Also where can I find the downloadable file/image of Ubuntu for Android as describe here? I see no link with the name on it.. Should I just download the normal dis and choose from options when installing it?
