  • Make Apache server available on a LAN via custom ServerName

    Hi, is it possible to set up an Apache server on a machine which is part of a LAN, then allow machines on the LAN to access the server via a custom ServerName (instead of Localhost). I want to serve a simple website in an office space using a short ServerName (no ports etc if possible), but I want to make sure this is possible (after originally being certain it was!).   • Keynote changes Exposé shortcuts

    Hey, Since upgrading to Snow Leopard (I think) playing a Keynote slide-show changes my Exposé shortcut keys. I have Exposé on Ctrl+KEY but after slide-show the its just KEY, the Ctrl-part is gone. I've tried toggling the "Allow Exposé... to use screen" option, no result. Any ideas?

    I'm studying Tor and its capability to provide anonymity and bypass censorship, especially when used by people of repressive countries. I'm wondering about one thing. The nodes that are part of the "Onion Network" are limited and they're public. So, in an oppressive regime, couldn't be possible that someone with a blacklist just put a firewall blocking in this way TOR traffic? (and tracking down who's using it?)

  • Making Linux smart about partition or filesystem moves with a UUID selection dialog?

    It seems to me a major part of frustration n00bs have with Linux is due to UUID changes not matching peoples intuition and just working. Does anyone know a way of making GRUB and /etc/fstab just ASK PEOPLE about UUID changes, instead of just failing after people try moving hard disk? Could this be done in Bash or such? Is there a different flag or two somewhere we could simply change? Seems like this, if made to work in common practice could be a major advantage.

  • Building NanoBSD inside a jail

    I'm trying to setup a jail to enable building a NanoBSD image. It's actually a jail on top of a NanoBSD install. The problem I have is that I'm unable to mount the md device in order to do the 'build image' part. Is it simply not possible to mount an md device inside a jail, or is there some other knob I need to twiddle?   • /usr/local or /opt ?

    Hi Guys, How do you generally proceed for your package installations on Linux, for packages that are not part of your distrib's repos? On my side I am used to install in /opt. But since, I saw this doc on the Internet: http://www.pathname.com/fhs/. Now I am confused: apparently /usr/local would be also a possibility. What is the difference between both? This is fixed by adding my specific user account to the list but that shouldn't be necessary should it?

  • Windows remote administration suite that doesn't rely on Active Directory, Domains, etc

    I know there are a number of suites out there that allow Windows machines on a Domain, or in Active Directory to be remotely administrated (windows updates, program installs, maintenance, etc); but does there exist a package that does this for non-AD/Domain setups? The kind of things I'm looking for: manage windows updates, + automatic applying custom package pushing (custom scripts, etc) general maintenance, visibily of health works for 2003/2008/2008R2 works without Active Directory or being part of a Domain (Might be able to manage putting all the machines on a Workgroup, if that helps)

  • Can I set a default domain for a Windows Authenticated website in IIS7?

    I have an intranet site using Windows Authentication. When users are prompted for credentials, they enter: User: domain\username Pass: SomePassword It'd be nice if they could leave off the domain\ part which would be filled in with a default domain. I'm willing to give up the ability to login with a server/machine account (non-domain) because we don't use that anyway. This seems to be possible with BasicAuth but I can't seem to find a reference for how to do it with WindowsAuth.

  • Unable to use TweetDeck on Windows due to "Ooops, TweetDeck can't find your data" and "Sorry, Adobe

    I'm running Adobe AIR 1.5.2 (latest) on Windows 7 (64-bit RTM) and downloaded TweetDeck 0.31.1 (latest). When I run TweetDeck I get the following errors: Ooops, TweetDeck can't find your data and Sorry, Adobe AIR has a problem running on this computer Other AIR applications install and run fine. I've uninstalled both TweetDeck and AIR and reinstalled. Following the uninstalls I've also removed all on-disk references to both TweetDeck and AIR, but no luck. UPDATE: Using Process Monitor I did a trace of Tweetdeck from the moment it launched until the first error occurred. I saw the following information in the output of the trace: 1 5:22:18.6522338 PM TweetDeck.exe 5580 CreateFile D:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\rs\??\d:\Use\myusername\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\AIR\ELS\TweetDeckFast.F9107117265DB7542C1A806C8DB837742CE14C21.1\PrivateEncryptedDatak NAME INVALID Desired Access: Generic Write, Read Attributes, Disposition: OverwriteIf, Options: Synchronous IO Non-Alert, Non-Directory File, Attributes: N, ShareMode: Read, Write, AllocationSize: 0 In this trace output, Tweetdeck.exe is trying to create the file D:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\rs\??\d:\Use\myusername\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\AIR\ELS\TweetDeckFast.F9107117265DB7542C1A806C8DB837742CE14C21.1\PrivateEncryptedDatak but the path specified is invalid. When looking at the path you can see that it is indeed an invalid path. First, there’s the “??” portion which doesn’t exist in the file system since the “?” is an invalid character in Windows/NTFS file systems. Additionally, looking at this path, it actually seems to be composed of two parts (is the "??" a delimiter?): Part 1: D:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\rs\?? Part 2: d:\Use\myusername\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\AIR\ELS \TweetDeckFast.F9107117265DB7542C1A806C8DB837742CE14C21.1\PrivateEncryptedDatak (the problem here is that d:\Use... doesn’t even exist. What seems to be happening here is that Tweetdeck is looking for the user credentials (the “PrivateEncryptedDatak” file) but it’s looking in the wrong place, can’t find the file, and hence the error that Tweetdeck is giving (shown in the screenshot). I'm trying to determine how TweetDeck is getting this path. I searched the contents of all files on my hard disk hoping to find some TweetDeck or Adobe AIR configuration file containing this incorrect path, but I was unable to find anything. UPDATE: See Carl's comment regarding directory junctions and symbolic links under my accepted answer. This ended up being the problem.     Hi, I want to setup a single wordpress install to allow users to visit using 2 domains: For example: foo.com bar.foo.com I can do this for the most part, but whatever domain is configured in the wp-admin screen, it will redirect to that whenever any of the links are clicked. For example, if I set it up to foo.com and I come in using bar.foo.com and click an article link, it takes me to foo.com and the article link. I want the user to stay on the domain they came in. thanks Joel

  • Multiple network connections on a Windows 2008 domain controller (private network for NAS)

    I have a Windows 2008 server connecting to an iSCSI target on an OpenSolaris box (yay ZFS!). I'd like to create a private network between the 2 boxes that is totally separate of my Windows domain. What is the best way to configure the additional network adapter on the Windows machine so it doesn't think the new subnet is part of the Windows domain? I want to make sure Windows doesn't magically start spewing active directory communications over the private wire and that it doesn't start poisoning the DNS with IPs from the private network.

  • MediaContextNotificatioNWindow Error Occurs When Trying to Shutdown Windows XP

    I am working with a Windows XP laptop that whenever it is shutdown will display a warning that the "MediaContextNotificationWindow" is attempting to close, eventually requiring you to force it to close. It does not appear to matter if the laptop is on or off the network, it will still display the message. I have done a little research into the MediaContextNotificationWindow, and it seems like it is either a part of the Windows Media Player or .Net 3.5, though I'm not entirely sure. Has anyone come across this error and know how to resolve it?
