• Can't get NSDate to work correctly

  Hello, having a strange issue, must be something I'm just not seeing. I set up a variable in the .h NSDate *checkIn; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSDate *checkIn; I'm setting a variable to todays date in the initWithNibName: checkIn = [NSDate date]; I also did synthesized it as well. Now later on in my program I use it to build a tablecell with the following line cell.textLabel.text = [dateFormatter stringFromDate:checkIn]; This line kills the simulator, BAD_EXEC. If I put in a checkIn = [NSDate date]; above it, it works fine. So I'm thinking the variable isn't being stored from when I set it in the initWithNibName: Not sure why though, as my strings I do the same way are all working fine from method to method. What am I missing?

• Type mismatch in expression in Delphi 7 on SQL append

  I have a code, that checks the current date when a form is loaded, performs a simple calculation, and appends a SQL in Delphi. It works on Windows 7 with Delphi 7, and on another computer with Xp, but doesn't on 3 other computers with Xp. When the form is loaded it shows a "Type mismatch in expression", and points to the line after the append. • How do you uninstall old custom installs of Xcode?

  Hi, When I install a beta, I do a custom install into a separate folder to the latest release version. I have several old beta installs. How do I uninstall the old custom versions of xcode? Can I just trash the folder? Our do I need to use Terminal? The release notes suggest to use this: $ sudo /Library/uninstall-devtools --mode=all But will this just uninstall my original official release version 3.2? Thanks.

I wanted to also be able to pass in a qr quoted variable to use in the comparison instead but the only way I can think of separating the comparisons is using an if/else block, like so: if (lc ref($params{whatever}) eq 'regexp') { #use =~ } else { #use eq } Is there a shorter way of doing it? Because of reasons beyond my control I'm using Perl 5.8.8 so I can't use the smart match operator. TIA

• How to calculate real-time stats?

  I have a site with millions of users (well, actually it doesn't have any yet, but let's imagine), and I want to calculate some stats like "log-ins in the past hour". The problem is similar to the one described here: http://highscalability.com/blog/2008/4/19/how-to-build-a-real-time-analytics-system.html The simplest approach would be to do a select like this: select count(distinct user_id) from logs where date>='20120601 1200' and date <='20120601 1300' (of course other conditions could apply for the stats, like log-ins per country) Of course this would be really slow, mainly if it has millions (or even thousands) of rows, and I want to query this every time a page is displayed. How would you summarize the data? What should go to the (mem)cache? EDIT: I'm looking for a way to de-normalize the data, or to keep the cache up-to-date. For example I could increment an in-memory variable every time someone logs in, but that would help to know the total amount of logins, not the "logins in the last hour". Hope it's more clear now.

  I have the following problem that needs to be solved in a MySQL query: Fields info - textfield date1 - a date field date2 - a date field offset1 - a text field with a number in the first two positions, example "10-High" offset2 - a text field with a number in the first two positions, example "10-High" I need to sort the records by the calculated "sortvalue" based on the current date (today): If today=date2 then sortvalue=offset1*10+offset2*5+1000 else sortvalue=offset1*10+offset2*5 I have quite good understanding of basic SQL with joins etc, but this I am not even sure if its possible...if it helps I could perhaps live with a single formula giving the same sort of effect as the IFs do....ie. before date1 = low value, after date2 = high value... • Can't create admin user on Heroku

  I am new to rails and I have gone through Kevin Skoglund's Ruby on Rails 3 Essential Training course on Lynda.com. Through the course you set up a simple cms, which I did. It doesn't cover Git or deployment but I've pushed my simple cms to github (https://github.com/nick5a1/Simple_CMS) and deployed to Heroku (http://nkarrasch.herokuapp.com/). In order to deploy to Heroku I followed the Heroku setup guide (https://devcenter.heroku.com/articles/rails3) and switched my database from MySQL to PostgreSQL. As instructed I changed gen'mysql2' to gen 'sqlite3' in my Gemfile and ran bundle install before pushing. I then ran heroku run rake db:migrate. I'm running into 2 problems. When I try to log in (http://nkarrasch.herokuapp.com/access) I get an error "We're sorry, but something went wrong". I should instead be getting a flash message with invalid username/password combination. This is what I'm getting on my test environment on my local machine. Secondly, when I log into the Heroku console to create and create an admin user, when I try to save that user I get the following error: irb(main):004:0> user.save (1.2ms) BEGIN AdminUser Exists (1.9ms) SELECT 1 AS one FROM "admin_users" WHERE "admin_users"."username" = 'Nick5a1' LIMIT 1 (1.7ms) ROLLBACK => false Any advice on how to troubleshoot would be greatly appreciated :). • Problem with anchor tags in Django after using lighttpd + fastcgi

  I just started using lighttpd and fastcgi for my django site, but I've noticed my anchor links are no longer working. I used the anchor links for sorting links on the page, for example I use an anchor to sort links by the number of points (or votes) they have received. For example: the code in the html template: ... {% load sorting_tags %} ... {% ifequal sort_order "points" %} {% trans "total points" %} {% trans "or" %} {% anchor "date" "date posted" %} {% order_by_votes links request.direction %} {% else %} {% anchor "points" "total points" %} {% trans "or" %} {% trans "date posted" %} ... The anchor link on "www.mysite.com/my_app/" for total points will be directed to "my_app/?sort=points" But the correct URL should be "www.mysite.com/my_app/?sort=points" All my other links work, the problem is specific to anchor links. What I mean is, that for item 1 I've five rows, so each have a percentage of 20% and for item 2 I've three row, so each have a percentage of 33,33%. • What is the best way to migrate documents into Sharepoint (MOSS) 2007?

  I'm working with a customer that needs to migrate documents from their current document management system (not Sharepoint) into Sharepoint MOSS 2007 retaining document history and metadata. I've written a proof of concept using the Sharepoint web services and that looks promising, but the snag so far seems to be programmatically setting the created date/time and user. The webservices allow the fields to be set but implicitly override them to be the currently logged in user + date/time. For obvious reasons, I need to be able to keep the original created date/time and user on migration. Does anyone know the best way to approach this problem?

• Override Java System.currentTimeMillis

  Is there a way, either in code or with JVM arguments, to override the current time, as presented via System.currentTimeMillis, other than manually changing the system clock on the host machine? A little background: We have a system that runs a number of accounting jobs that revolve much of their logic around the current date (ie 1st of the month, 1st of the year, etc) Unfortunately, a lot of the legacy code calls functions such as new Date() or Calendar.getInstance(), both of which eventually call down to System.currentTimeMillis. For testing purposes, right now, we are stuck with manually updating the system clock to manipulate what time and date the code thinks that the test is being run. So my question is: Is there a way to override what is returned by System.currentTimeMillis? For example, to tell the JVM to automatically add or subtract some offset before returning from that method? Thanks in advance!

• Conceptual question about NSAutoreleasePools

  In my Cocoa program, wouldn't a really simple way of dealing with autoreleased objects be to just create a timer object inside the app delegate that calls the following method e.g. every 10 seconds: if (pool) { // Release & drain the current pool to free the memory. [pool release]; } // Create a new pool. pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; The only problems I can imagine are: 1) If the above code runs in a separate thread, an object might get autoreleased between the release call to the old pool and the creation of the new pool - that seems highly unlikely though. 2) It's obviously not that efficient, because the pool might get released if there's nothing in it. Likewise, in the 10 second gap, many many objects might be autoreleased, causing the pool to grow a lot. Still, the above solution seems pretty suitable to small and simple projects. Why doesn't anybody use it? What's the best practice of using NSAutoreleasePools?

• Presentation with latex, changing the width in each frame

  Hello, In my presentation, I use "\usetheme{Warsaw}" and in order to increase the usable space in each frame, I use "\useoutertheme{infolines}". In this way, the bar at the bottom of each page is equally divided between author's name, title, and date and slide number. Is there anyway to change the width of each section? For example, I need more space for the title compared to author's name or date. Any comment is highly appreciated. Also, the code I am using is the following: \usepackage{beamerthemesplit} \usetheme{Warsaw} \useoutertheme{infolines} \title[...]{...} \author[...]{...} \institute{...} \date{...} \begin{document} \begin{frame} \titlepage \end{frame} Thank you.

  My DB has four fields, date:date, morning:integer, afternoon:integer, evening:integer. Google charts needs the data split into one array per dataset (example below). What's the best way to do this?   All, I have an SMS gateway application running on my server that passes incoming SMS messages to a php script. That script writes the data to a text file. Certain aspects of the message can be extracted as variables - for example: Message content: $msgdata Sender: $originator Time: $receivedtime etc... Using the script below I can easily write the message to a text file but it will write the data of every SMS that comes in. I only want to write to a text file if the $originator variable is a certain telephone number (e.g 07123456321) $date = date("d.m.Y H:i:s"); $msgdata = $_REQUEST["msgdata"]; $myFile3 = "test.txt"; $fh = fopen($myFile3, 'a') or die("can't open file"); $stringData3 = "$date - $msgdata\n"; fwrite($fh, $stringData3); fclose($fh); Your assistance is bery much appreciated. I'm trying to create a query that returns records between a specific date range (all records from March 2010) however I encounter a 'data type mismatch in critera expression' message.
