• migrate database from sybase to mysql

  I have been trying to migrate a database from sybase to Mysql. This is my approach: Generate pojo classes from my sybase database using hibernate in eclipse Use these pojo classes to generate the schema in mysql database Then somehow migrate the data from sybase to mysql I guess this approach should work??? Please let me know if there is any better or easier approach. The thing is I am not even able to get the first step done. I added hibernate plugin in eclipse from this link: [http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/updates/stable/][1] I added sybase jar file to my project classpath Then I added hibernate console configuration file Then I added hibernate configuration file Then I added hibernate code generation configuration When I try to run the code generation configuration file, I am getting java.lang.NullPointerException and I have no idea how to fix it. I searched a lot of forums, tried to google it, but I not able to find any solution. Can anybody tell me what mistake I am making here or point to some hibernate tutorial for eclipse??

• Checking if an object has been released before sending a message to it

  I've only recently noticed a crash in one of my apps when an object tried to message its delegate and the delegate had already been released. At the moment, just before calling any delegate methods, I run this check: if (delegate && [delegate respondsToSelector:...]){ [delegate ...]; } But obviously this doesn't account for if the delegate isn't nil, but has been deallocated. Besides setting the object's delegate to nil in the delegate's dealloc method, is there a way to check if the delegate has already been released just incase I no longer have a reference to the object.

  The current way our application is written, involves creating a new connection and command object in every method that access our sqlite db. Considering we need it to run on a WM5 device, that is leading to hideous performance. Our plan is to use just one connection object per-thread but it's also occurred to us to use one global command object per-thread too. The benefit of this is it reduces the overhead on the garbage collector created by instantiating objects all over the place. I can't find any advice against doing this but wondered if anyone can answer definitively if this is a good or bad thing to do, and why?

• NSInvocation: object does not implement methodSignatureForSelector

  I have this weird crash that only happens when running the app on the device (doesn't happen in the Simulator). It seems like the problem surfaces out of nowhere, as I haven't changed anything on that particular class. I had the very same issue a few days ago, and I ended up fixing it by duplicating the class, renaming it, and changing the referenced class — I haven't changed a single bit of code. So I'm trying to understand why it's doing this. I've read somewhere that usually you get this console error when the object isn't a subclass of NSObject (but it is!). Here's the exact console error message: *** NSInvocation: warning: object 0x679e0 of class 'FFProximityPickerView' does not implement methodSignatureForSelector: -- trouble ahead *** NSInvocation: warning: object 0x679e0 of class 'FFProximityPickerView' does not implement doesNotRecognizeSelector: -- abort And then it crashes. I'd be very thankful for anyone who can help me on this.

• How to make a Scala Applet whose Applet class is a singleton?

  Hi, I don't know if a solution exists but it would be highly desirable. I'm making a Scala Applet, and I want the main Applet class to be a singleton so it can be accessed elsewhere in the applet, sort of like: object App extends Applet { def init { // do init here } } Instead I have to make the App class a normal instantiatable class otherwise it complains because the contructor is private. So the ugly hack I have is to go: object A { var pp: App = null } class App extends Applet { A.pp = this def init { // do init here } } I really hate this, and is one of the reasons I don't like making applets in Scala right now. Any better solution? It would be nice...

• Save in Sessions to reduce database load

  at the moment I try to reduce the load on my database extremly, so I had a look in my website and think about - what database calls can I try to avoid. So is there a rule for that? Sould I save every information in a Session that is nearly never changed? e.g.: The User-Table is a 35-coloumn-table which I need so often in so different ways, that in the moment I got this user-object at nearly every PageLoad AND in the master-site-page-load (Settings, display the username for a welcome message, colors etc etc.). So is that good to avoid the database query here, save the User-Object in a Session and call it from the session - and of course destroy the session whereever the User-Object get changed (e.g. User change his settings)?

  Hi How to design a business object? I have a library which returns me an Object which have ten lists of other different objects. I need to store it into database all. List of objects are often like: class Item { private int id; private String name; private double point; } But the name is often the same. Like basic title of the product or code. Containing from 3 characters up to 70characters. Should I make conversion for every Object to: (or something similar) class ConvertedItem { private int id; private int code; private double point; } And have a separated table of codes ( I guess around 60). Or do not bother with duplicated stuff? It's not mission critical app. What would you do in my case? thanks in advance

There are 10 000s (up to 40000) of items in my database and it takes very long time when script runs (1 hour and more) until finish. How can I take data I need from database and save it to file "at once"? (as quick as possible? I don't need xml output because I can process data from output on my server later.   Could anybody explain whether it is safe to reinitialize an object by calling "self.init(". as shown in the following simplified example? The reason i'm asking is that i couldn't find this method neither in several python books nor in internet. There are some who suggest to list all attributes and set them to initial value one by one. • Looking for a file database

  A few years ago there was a PHP script around called paFileDB. Essentially it created a database of files that end users could download and rate. It would keep track of the number of downloads as well. I am looking for a replacement of this coded in ASP.net C#. For the last week I have been searching around for "asp.net C# file database" and have just gotten how to upload files to a database. I have also search with some other terms. I do not need a full blown CMS like DotNetNuke or SharePoint. All I have been looking for is a system I could easily add to my existing .net C# site. I have thought about coding one myself, but with me being rather busy at work and this being a personal project, I simply do not have the time to code this myself. I hope that you guys can help. • Why is run() not immediately called when start() called on a thread object in java

  Or is it? I have a thread object from: Thread myThread = new Thread(pObject); Where pObject is an object of a class implementing the Runnable interface and then I have the start method called on the thread object like so: myThread.start(); Now, my understanding is that when start() is called, the JVM implicitly (and immediately) calls the run() method which may be overridden (as it is in my case) However, in my case, it appears that the start() method is not called immediately (as desired) but until the other statements/methods are completed from the calling block i.e. if I had a method after the start() call like so: myThread.start(); doSomethingElse(); doSomthingElse() gets executed before the run() method is run at all. Perhaps I am wrong with the initial premise that run() is always called right after the start() is called. Please help! The desired again is making executing run() right after start(). Thanks.

  I have a music related ASP.NET web site which caches a lot of static information from the database on the first request. Sometimes, the application is reset and cache is cleared while the application is on heavy load and then all http requests go to the database to retrieve that static data and cache it for other requests. How can I ensure that only one request go to the database and cache the results, so that other request simply read that info from cache and not needlessly retrieve the same info over and over again. Can I use thread locking? For example, can I do something like lock(this) { db access here }?

• Using a Type object to create a generic

  Hello all! I'm trying to create an instance of a generic class using a Type object. Basically, I'll have a collection of objects of varying types at runtime, and since there's no way for sure to know what types they exactly will be, I'm thinking that I'll have to use Reflection. I was working on something like: Type elType = Type.GetType(obj); Type genType = typeof(GenericType<>).MakeGenericType(elType); object obj = Activator.CreateInstance(genType); Which is well and good. ^_^ The problem is, I'd like to access a method of my GenericType< instance, which I can't because it's typed as an object class. I can't find a way to cast it obj into the specific GenericType<, because that was the problem in the first place (i.e., I just can't put in something like:) ((GenericType<elType>)obj).MyMethod(); How should one go about tackling this problem?   I want to write my own network simulator, for fun and for personal challenge. I hope to learn both new programming techniques, and a little bit more about networking. Previous object-oriented attempts ended very quickly, but I've recently downloaded and played with Microsoft's Axum (a new version was released today) and their Concurrency and Co-ordination Runtime. As I come from a very OO dominant background, I had never heard of Actor-oriented programming before; now it seems I've had my head in the sand until Scala and F# brought the paradigm to me. My questions are: a) is actor-oriented programming a better choice than object-oriented programming for this task, and if so b) where is a good place to start learning actor-oriented design?

• Managing Large Database Entity Models

  I would like hear how other's are effectively (or not) working with the Visual Studio Entity Designer when many database tables exists. It seems to me that navigating the Designer is tough enough to find what you are looking for with just a few tables but how about a database with say 100 to 200 tables? When a table change is made at the database level how is the model updated? Does it overwrite any manual changes you have made to the model? How would you quickly find an entity in the designer to make a change or inspect a change? Seems unrealistic to be scrolling around looking for specific entity. Thanks for your feedback!

It's about a list of objects...when I change the number of rows that list shows(a combobox), I am doing a submit on my form returning back to the view(obviosly with the new number of rows returned). When listing with my own tags I need to get the properties from my command object. I have access to the pageContext object but I can't figure where the command object is stored.   Hi, I am working to develop a JMS application(stand alone multithreaded java application) which can receive 100 messages at a time , they need to be processed and database procedures need to be called for inserting/updating data. Procedures are very heavy as validations are also performed in them. Each procedure is taking about 30 to 50 seconds of time to execute and they are capable to run concurrently. My concern is to execute 100 procedures for all 100 messages and also send reply within time limit of 90 seconds by jms application. No application server to be used(requirement) and database is Teradata (RDBMS) I am using connection pool and thread pool in java code and testing code with 90 connections. Question is : (1) What should be the limit on number of connections with database at a time? (2) How many threads at a time are recommended? Thanks, Jyoti

• Convert an XML object back into a string in ColdFusion

  In ColdFusion, I can parse a string of XML formatted data into an XML Object using xmlParse(). How can I convert it back into a string? When I tried using toString() it throws an error that "it can't convert complex object to simple objects....", which is ironic because that's what it's supposed to do. I need to use XMLTransform() which requires the first argument to be an xml string. But I also need to use xmlSearch() to get a node to pass into my transform, and xmlSearch returns an xmlObject. So now I need to put that object back into xml string format to pass into xmlTransform.

• Add database to plesk domain account via XML

  Hi All, I'm currently working on trying to integrate a site with Plesk via the XML API and I've run into a bit of an issue. I've managed to get most things working but I'm trying to add a database to a domain and I keep getting an error. When creating the database I extract a list of Domain Accounts associated with the current clients account, and use the domain guid that is returned in the XML to try and create the new database, but Plesk is returning an error stating that the id I am using is not a valid id. I've looked at the documentation and it is saying that the domain ID that I should be sending is an integer, but the only ID I can find for the domain is the guid, which is a string. Anyone done anything like this before and know where I can get the ID from?
