    I am about to start on a project where I need to display maps with cross streets and possibly directions. I know there are a lot of API for the web, but I was wondering what the best solution is for a desktop application. I know of Bing Maps and I believe there are some Google Maps solutions out there as well. Any help or information on good mapping API's would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Can you set up a Linode VPS as a reseller type scenario?

    First, I'm a fairly green on this subject. So, go easy. I do web design and development and would like to set up a way to be the central host so to speak for my clients. Currently they are scattered across multiple hosting companies. I've looked at some the cheapy options like a LunarPages and some of the more robust options like RackSpace Cloud and Linode. RackSpace has a reseller program, but it's managed and more at the top end on cost. I'm not seeing any type of reseller program in place for Linode. Can I purchase a higher Linode plan and use Apache2's VirtualHost configuration to handle multiple domains (about 8 domains, but hopefully will grow.). Or, am I not thinking about this correctly?

    Is there a quick and easy way to backup both MS SQL 2008 and MySQL, all their databases? Right now I have a batch script that runs, but I have to manually add a database each and every time, and I'm sick of maintaining it. So I want to set it up to backup all MS SQL and then all MySQL, I dont care if its two different solutions, just want the ability to backup all the databases without having to type them in.   • Given n report thumbnails, how do I create a Flex Effect that zooms into the selected report?

    I am worried about performance issues. If I just render all n reports zoomed out, then that will cost me in performance. Even animating a zoomed out report to zoom in, will also cost me in performance because it has to recalculate all the UIComponent's of my report as it transitions from zoomed out to zoomed in-to view. Any solutions/suggestions welcome. Let me know if you need clarification.

  • Can you have a staging and production slot in Azure Websites

    I'm looking at hosting 3 Websites (there will all use the same linked database resource but I think I have to use 3 websites within Azure for this); www.website.com, provider.website.com and admin.website.com. Using Windows Azure Websites, can you have a Staging, Production slot? I think this feature is only available to Azure Cloud Services but there is little documentation on this. If its not possible, other than spinning up 3 more sites to act as the staging sites is there another way? I want the ability to "swap" from staging to production.

    I need to execute a file when I only know the descriptor. It is also possible that there are no links to the file so finding out the name somehow is not an option. All the execve(), execvp(), etc functions take a file name. dlopen() also takes a name. Ugly solutions (like reading the file and calling some function pointer) are OK.

    I have a default.aspx page that needs to be refresh every 10 sec. My solution so far is a javascript function, but it only works in firefux and not IE. I'm looking for a way to handle the refresh mecanism in the default.aspx.cs page instead, with some sort of Timer. Any good simple sugestions/hints or solutions out there that can lead me in the right direction?

    I want to my make a search-statement and query things like this select * from table where col like '%vkvk%' But with trial and error I've come to the conclusion that access doesn't work with LIKE or wildcard operators.     Hi all, I'm studying how to use caching in Heroku for my Rails app. HTTP cache powered by Varnish is superb and I'll use it in all pages without user info but I also want to use a kind of ActiveRecord caching with Memcached using "high livel" plugins such as cache_fu or cache-money...but it seems that Heroku supports only the memcached gem (http://docs.heroku.com/memcache) and it's a very low level Memcachad API... Do you have any other solutions? Thx.

  • Alternative to Canned Response in Gmail

    I have a mailbox that i share with a colleague. We want a good way to store templates for e-mails that we send often like answers to common questions and so on. We have tried to use Canned Response to store this templates but that GUI really sucks and is kind of unusable for other things then signatures and stuff. Is anyone aware of a good alternative to this? We need to be able to share this templates. So it must be stored "in the cloud". We want "as easy access" as possible directly in gmail. A firefox plugin would be fine since we both use Firefox. We use both Mac and PC so the solution must be cross-platform. Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?

But now I've exported my project to an executable jar file and callig shell commands doesn't work any more. Aside from solutions like iframes, is it possible to embed a Java portlet within an ASP.NET page?   • Selectively turning off Devise's flash notices in Rails 3

    The Devise authentication framework uses flash notices everywhere. This makes it easy to integrate with apps but it leads to poor user experience sometimes. I am wondering what's an easy way to selectively turn off some of the Devise flash notices in my Rails 3 app. In particular, I'd like to get rid of the blatantly obvious signed_in and signed_out flashes. Some searching suggested subclassing the session controller or use something like this but I haven't been able to find any simple solutions to this problem.
