  • How to use rsync when filenames contain double quotes?

    I am trying to synchronize the content of the directory my_dir/ from /home to /backup. This directory contains a file which name has a double quote in it, such as to"to. Here is my rsync command: rsync -Cazh /home/my_dir/ /backup/my_dir/ And I get the following message: rsync: mkstemp "/backup/my_dir/.to"to.d93PZr" failed: Invalid argument (22) For info, rsync works well when the synchronized filenames contain single quote, parenthesis and space. Thus, why is it bugging with a double quote? Thanks for any help.

  • IIS serving locally, but not remotely

    There is a router between the modem and the server. In the admin panel, I use single-port forward Internal Port External Port IP 80 80 to 192.168.1.100 (Web Server) Basically, I'm not on site, and there is a local IT person who is supposed to have this ready. I saw the port forward page, and it was configured as described above. So my question is, the only other thing it could be is firewall software, or some other device on the network that their not telling me about, right?

  • How to prevent a Windows 7 PC from sleeping when CPU usage is over X%?

    I often leave the PC running into the night to process video files, so it shouldn't sleep while it's working but it would be nice if it went into sleep when it's done. During the export the CPU is always above a set %, and when idle it's typically in the single digits. Is there some tool or setting that would prevent the PC from going to sleep as long as the CPU usage (let's say averaged over one minute) stays above a specified limit?

  • Repair corrupt hard disk on Mac without install CD

    The hard disk of my late 2009 MacBook Pro appears to have become corrupted. I am traveling and do not have my install CD (and won't for several weeks, nor will I be anywhere near an Apple store). The hard disk is not the original, which failed in June 2011. It's some Hitachi replacement installed by IT. History: I was typing an email this afternoon, my computer suddenly started making soft clicking sounds and then froze. I was not moving around. I rebooted, which took a while. I heard more clicking sounds and the computer froze at least once again. It's now kind of working, with mdworker sucking up one CPU. There are no awkward hard drive sounds when I run Chrome or play music. However, when I launched Stickies, I found no trace of my saved Stickies. I ran a live disk verification from within Disk Utility, and it reported Problem: As reported, I don't have access to an installation disc and am nowhere near an area where I can get one for at least two weeks. I have the option of asking someone to go to some trouble and expense to get one for me, but I'm not sure it's worth it: I've read that I can use fsck from single-user mode to repair the disk. Should I just try this? Is it risky? I'm concerned that the clicky sound portends imminent (mechanical) hard drive failure, so it's not worth doing a silly repair. This hard disk is backed up, but I definitely won't be able to access the backup while traveling. I'd like to maximize the probability that I can keep using my computer (and all its current files) while traveling. Update I bit the bullet and ran fsck -fy from single-user mode. It only needed one pass (modification) to reach the "okay" stage. However, rebooting took nearly 5 min and involved several rounds of scratchy sounds and a few bad clicks. I'm now back to kind of using my computer (the same files are missing as before). When I ran live disk verification from Disk Utility this time, however, it reported that the volume appears to be OK. Am I right to infer from the scratchy sounds, however, that my hard drive is still rapidly on its way out? Is there anything else I can do to increase its functionality over the next few weeks?

  • Run a specific Windows application with different regional settings?

    We have an old VB6 application, written in the UK, which we want to run on a client's server in Canada. The application must have some hard-coded date formats in it somewhere, as it's misinterpreting dates, eg, 6th April is getting recorded as 4th June. I know I could change the user's date format, but this would affect all applications. Is it possible, perhaps with some sort of wrapper script, to set specific regional settings for this single application?

  • Improve backup performance by watching files added/modified in given directories?

    I use SyncbackSE on Windows to back up files between two hard drives daily. Every time the application starts, it scans every single file in the directories that it watches before copying files that were added or modified. To improve performance, I was wondering if there were a Windows backup application that would hook into Windows to keep tracks of files that were added/modified in given directories, so that it only needs to go through this list when it comes time for a backup.     I need to know if it's possible on an exchange server to filter outgoing mail and override the from address in certain cases. We have to set up many exhange users who will only be able to access exchange through the outlook web access. All their outgoing e-mails when received from recipients outside our company should appear to be sent from a single generic address and not from the users' addresses.   • Easy way to deploy the recovery parition in Windows 7?

    We're using ImageX to deploy Windows 7 Professional. We've gotten the Windows partition to work, but the recovery partition (100-200MB at the front of the drive in a standard install) isn't as simple. Here's a Technet guide I found: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd744280%28WS.10%29.aspx That looks like it could work, but would take alot of time if we need to do that for every single machine we deploy. Is there a faster/automated way?

  • Limiting nproc in an upstart job

    What exactly does the stanza limit nproc 20 20 in an Upstart job do? I've read the documentation here (http://upstart.ubuntu.com/wiki/Stanzas#limit), and it seems like it would limit nproc for any process related to the job. However, I don't see this effect when I've added this to my job's conf file - in this specific case, I've confirmed that my test job's single process was able to fork more than 20 child processes. Any advice? Thanks.

  • Windows Server 2003 Is there a limit on number of TCP connections per process?

    We are running into issues with BizTalk host instance intermittently going down. One of the things that we are worried about is the number of FTP connections a single host instance is making which could easily reach into the hundreds perhaps sometimes thousands, depending on traffic. My question is Windows Server 2003 Is there a limit on number of TCP connections per process? If so would putting each application in it's own host instance potentially solve the problem.

    After reading a bit about interVLAN routing got a doubt regarding how trunking takes place at router and at switch.In case of switch we configure a port interface as trunk port and say all vlan's are allowed here but in case of router we configure sub interface as trunk saying particular vlan belongs to particular subinterface .Can't we configure only a single port interface on router just like Switch and say all vlan's are allowed here on this interface ,why to go for sub interfaces?     In the PowerPoint slider sorter view, is there a way to set the zoom level larger than 100%? On PowerPoint for Mac this slider goes to much higher values, essentially allowing zoom all the way in to a single slide, but on the Windows version (depending on screen resolution and slide dimensions) the maximum zoom is often several slides wide. Evidently it's possible to achieve a similar affect by changing the page size, but is there some sort of preferences hack that will change the maximum value of this slider?

    I'm receiving IP packets using the SLIP protocol, and I'd like to pretty-print them similarly to how tcpdump does it. My program is able to decode the SLIP protocol and create a single string containing an IP packet if necessary. I couldn't find any relevant tcpdump command-line flags except for -r. The file format is documented at http://www.tcpdump.org/pcap/pcap.html , but it looks a bit too complicated. Is there a Linux tool for pretty-printing raw IP packets?

Is anyone familiar with a conf for HAProxy that can block requests if they exceed a certain threshold from a single IP within a defined period of time.   • How to stay connected on remote desktop even if different user tries to connect

Some other users sometimes try to connect to the same computer, then a message box pops up with information that I have 30 seconds to block this try or I will be logged off. Sometimes I'm away and then I'm being logged off and when I come back I have to log on again. Is there a way to turn off this functionality for single user. Is there some application that always breaks this login process ?

  • is it possible to have two web servers hosted at different places share the same domain name?

    say I have a wordpress site: https://www.foobar.com and I want to have an entry point to a rails app at a certain subdirectory within that same domain: https://www.foobar.com/rails_app I know this is possible if both the wordpress app and the rails app are hosted on the same box, but is this in anyway possible if they are hosted on different boxes? I do not want to use subdomains because I am trying to allow ajax post requests from one to the other and not having to deal with single origin policy stuff.
