• Multiple dropdowns, combination check and filter

  Using Javascript / jQuery, I'm trying to build a "combination checker" that will take the values of three (but can be more) dropdown lists and filter the options based on a supplied list of allowed combinations. For example: DROPDOWNS Field 1: - value_1 - value_2 Field 2: - value_3 Field 3: - value_4 - value_5 COMBINATIONS - value_1, value_3, value_5 - value_1, value_3, value_4 - value_2, value_3, value_5 When a user selects Field 3 - value_4, the unavailable options will be disabled - ie, Field 1 - value_2 (there is no combination that allows value_2 and value_4 to be selected together). It would be really great if someone could provide some pointers on how this can be achieved or just provide a fresh perspective - I'm going round in circles on this one!

  Hey I assume my title basically summed it all up. I have a <h2> title, and I want it to have a max character property, be it CSS or javascript, so that whenever this maximum limit is passed, the title's end is replaced by ... (three dots). • Passing a multi-line string as an argument to a script in Windows

  I have a simple python script like so: import sys lines = sys.argv[1] for line in lines.splitlines(): print line I want to call it from the command line (or a .bat file) but the first argument may (and probably will) be a string with multiple lines in it. How does one do this? Of course, this works: import sys lines = """This is a string It has multiple lines there are three total""" for line in lines.splitlines(): print line But I need to be able to process an argument line-by-line. EDIT: This is probably more of a Windows command-line problem than a Python problem. EDIT 2: Thanks for all of the good suggestions. It doesn't look like it's possible. I can't use another shell because I'm actually trying to invoke the script from another program which seems to use the Windows command-line behind the scenes.

• Movement in game programming

  This question may have been asked before, but I'm starting to get into game programming on the Android. I'm having a hard time figuring out the best way to move an object. To put it simply, lets say I have a bitmap located on 0,0 and i want to move it across the screen. The obvious way to do it would be to simply increment the X position by one every time the Surface View onDraw method gets called. But what if I wanted to make it move faster? I could increment it by two or three instead of one, but then the movement starts to get really choppy and stupid looking. What is the best way to go about doing this?

Now, if I run the same test alone from reSharper the output is fine and does not repeat. However, if I run this test along side 2 other tests in the same class, the output is repeated three times. I am totally confused. What the hell is going on here?

• How to, set-justification-full per line in emacs without messing up on return?

  Hi, I have two problems in emacs. First. How do I set-justification-full for the whole document? I can do M-X set-justification-full for a region successfully, but I would like to make it work in the whole document. Second. How do I manage not to get lines jumping from one place to another when I have done set-justification-full, and press enter? That is, say I have the following paragraph: %%if normalized beforehand then the rule would be, %%\begin{gather} %%(\hat{y}_{i}^{'} \times \hat{y}_{i+1}^{'}) \cdot \hat{z}_{mst} = 1, \quad then \ \Omega 1\\ %%(\hat{y}_{i}^{'} \times \hat{y}_{i+1}^{'}) \cdot \hat{z}_{mst} = %%-1,\quad then \ \Omega When I do set-justification-full, it will convert six lines into three lines, that is, what I want to do is a per line justification. That is, there are two threads and sometimes thread 1 never comes out of push() and at other times thread 2 never comes out of pop() (the block parameter is true) though the queue isn't empty. I understand there are other implementations available, but I'd like to try to fix this code, if needed. Anyone see any issues? The constructor has the appropriate initializations: Queue() { pthread_mutex_init( &mMutex, NULL ); pthread_cond_init( &mCondition, NULL ); } and the destructor, the corresponding 'destroy' calls.

• Defining a static array into a C or C++ source file.

  Hello. I know this is a question that every programmer should know, but I do not know. Long time no C programming and I've forgotten a lot of things. My question is: I have three huge static arrays defined inside a header file. Someone told me that It's much better to declare them as extern in the header file, and define them in a single C or C++ source file. How can I do that? • Creating Pages with unique PageMaps

  I have a wicket Application that has long lived Pages. I would like each instance of this Page to be created with a unique PageMap for reasons I won't get into here, but when I try to specify a PageMap on the constructor of my Page I end up getting OOM and StackOverflow errors. Here is the code: public <CTOR>() { super(Session.get().newPageMap("" + System.currentTimeMillis())); ... I'm using a custom BookmarkablePageLink (custom in that it does not pass on the current PageMap name to the new Page) to effectively abandon the old Page/PageMap and create a new one with a new PageMap. The errors seem to be coming from page serialization after only two or three pages have been created. Can anyone find issue with this approach?

There is an open issue and a patch for that but I not sure if it suit well for my situation. With this patch you need always to remember to make it private and there is only a level of permission: private or not. I need something more flexible. • What is corresponding Cron expression to fire in every X seconds, where X > 60?

  I want my jobs to execute in every X seconds, there's one to one matching between job and X. Also during runtime there can be registered new jobs with their own intervals. I've tried to write cron expression for such scenarios, but in documentation there's written that value of seconds can't be more than 69. So cron expression like this: "0/63 * * * * ?" isn't valid. At first sight solution of that problem seemed to be expression like this: "0/3 0/1 * * * ?", but it means completely different thing: trigger job in every three second of every minute. Can you suggest what is the right solution (cron expression) for that? I know I could use just simple timers, but I've to use cron jobs using Quartz.

  I'm using amazon japan, using ItemLookup. We already have the EAN numbers (used as ItemId). It was working well until we need to modify the SalesRank. The previous SalesRank returned is for the whole SearchIndex, ex: Books, Music, etc. What we want is to get the SalesRank for a specific BrowseNode. I don't know but it seems that it is not implemented on Amazon US. The book states that to write great software (i.e. software that is well-designed, well-coded, easy to maintain, reuse, and extend) you need to do three things: Firstly, make sure the software does everything the customer wants it to do Once step 1 is completed, apply Object Oriented principles and techniques to eliminate any duplicate code that might have slipped in Once steps 1 and 2 are complete, then apply design patterns to make sure the software is maintainable and reusable for years to come. My question is, do you follow these steps when developing great software? If not, what steps do you usually follow inorder to ensure it's well designed, well-coded, easy to maintain, reuse and extend?

• Micro Controller Serial Data identification or classification

  I have a x51 family micro controller (P89V51RD2). I'm going to send some data from computer using serial port. The data i'll be sending are Character 'S' Character 'R' and a 2 digit integer. Upon receiving the data, I will be calling separate functions. I used if(chr=='S') and elseif(chr=='R')for character data. The main problem lies with identifying the 2 digit number sent. Any other data other than the above three mentioned will be discarded. Any ideas for identifying two digit integer ??

• JBoss 4.0.5 startup takes 15 minutes deploying a single war file

  This instance of JBoss deploys several war files. The rest of the JBoss startup takes about 5 minutes or less. But when it gets to one particular war file, startup just hangs with no further output to the jboss log. It waits there for about 15 minutes and then suddenly the war starts deploying. The rest of the JBoss startup is then fine. What I want to know is what steps do you recommend I take to diagnose the cause of this condition? It is not possible to upgrade this site to a newer version of JBoss nor java (currently 1.5.0.7). It is running on 32-bit CentOS 5.3 Linux on 3 xen-based virtual servers in a load balanced configuration. The code is common to all three servers via an nfs share. This same issue was seen, however, when the 3 servers were physical and the code was local to each server. The servers are each 2 cpu, 4GB RAM servers.

  I am working with a large list of points (each point has three dimensions x,y,z). I am pretty new with R, so I would like to know what is the best way to represent that kind of information. Right now there are three of us working on a "Dev" version of the project that all have our Eclipse linked to it with just an external folder, and thus no version control. What is the right way, and what is the best way, to version control this (not necessarily the same I dont think) We have a SVN set up but just need to find a good way to check in and check out that lets us test on the dev server. • Information stored in a cookie file

  Thanks for you help in advance. I am trying to figure out the structure of the cookie file, more specifically i want to be able to determine the expiry time. From the cookies i have created they all appear to be in a standard format. Name, Value, website,followed by 5 numbers and a star. See example below. name value www.website.co.uk/ 1536 3041141504 30135951 1632526096 30135949 * Obviously the expiry time is one of the numbers, the question is which one. From experiments I have determined that the first and fifth number don't seem to change. In a case where i generated three cookies at the same time with a 1000 second time difference i noticed that the fourth number appeared to increase by 2000 suggesting that this has a connection with the expiry time. Can anyone confirm if i am heading in the right direction? And does any one know how i convert this to a human time and date(preferably in php but any language would give me a starting point) thanks Jason

  When static members are inherited, are they static for the entire heirarchy, or just that class, ie: class SomeClass { public: SomeClass(){total++;} static int total; }; class SomeDerivedClass: public SomeClass { public: SomeDerivedClass(){total++;} }; int main() { SomeClass A; SomeClass B; SomeDerivedClass C; return 0; } would total be 3 in all three instances, or would it be 2 for SomeClass and 1 for SomeDerivedClass?

  I am trying to programmatically create and bind a table of accelerators in wxPython in a loop so that I don't need to worry about getting and assigning new IDs to each accelerators (and with a view to inhaling the handler list from some external resource, rather than hard-coding them). I also pass in some arguments to the handler via a lambda since a lot of my handlers will be the same but with different parameters (move, zoom, etc).   So I have (for instance) three views: A: root view B: a view functionally identical to root C: a data entry view which collects a few piece of info What I'm trying to do is reuse C to supply the data it collects to either A or B. It should supply the data to whichever of the two it is pushed onto. The data for A is similar, but functionally distinct, to what collects for B. Right now, I'm passing data from C to A or B via a singleton class. What I'm trying to avoid is having two instances of C, one to supply data to A and B (because, in actuality, the program will have 5 total views like C. Does the question make sense?

  I have a cmdline that I'm trying to modify to remove some of the arguments. What makes this complex is that I can have nested arguments. Say that I have this: $cmdline = "-a -xyz -a- -b -xyz -b- -a -xyz -a-" I have three different -xyz flags that are to be interpreted in two different contexts. One is the -a context and the other is the -b context. I want to remove the "a" -xyz's but leave the ones in the "b" -xyz. How can I most effectively do this in Perl?
