  Hi there. I am writing an application where users are required to show their photo, however as my server resources are very limited I can not let them upload it to the server. So I have three major questions: 1. How to properly validate photo URL? At least I can validate with regexp, however I need to check for file ending: `validates_format_of :photo_url, :with => URI::regexp(%w(http https))` 2. Security issues? XSS? Even I validate the picture at the moment of creation, hacker can replace image with malicious stuff anytime. 3. Maybe there are free asset stores with API?

• iPhone animation with stretchable image

  I got a UIView subclass that draws a UIImage as its background. The image is created using the stretchableImageWithLeftCapWidth:topCapHeight: method, it has round edges. I also use an animation block inside of which I resize my view. I had hoped that during animation, the drawRect:method would get called sometimes, which would result in the background image getting drawn correctly. Unfortunately, the animation seems to render the image and then just rescale it during the animation, which obviously makes the formerly round edges getting nastily stretched. The only workaround I can imagine is put three separate UIImageViews (top cap, middle fill, bottom cap) above my original background image and then reposition the caps images and scaling the fill image. However, this seems quite complicated... Is there any better way I can prevent this from happening?

• Confusion between JPA and Hibernate cascading

  I'm using Hibernate 3.6 and have my code annotated (versus using hibernate mapping files). I ran into the known "problem" of using JPA cascading options that are not compatible with Hibernate's CascadeType (see this link for more info http://www.mkyong.com/hibernate/cascade-jpa-hibernate-annotation-common-mistake/). I was hoping to get a bit more clarification on the problem. I have some particular questions: 1) So @Cascade({CascadeType.SAVE_UPDATE}) works for saveOrUpdate(), but does it apply also if I use merge() or persist()? or do I have to use all three Hibernate CascadeTypes? 2) How do I decide whether to use JPA cascade options or the Hibernate @Cascade annotation instead? 2) There is a "bug" filed against this in Hibernate, but the developers apparently see this as a documentation issue, (I'm completely disagree with them), and I'm not seeing that it was addressed in said documentation. Anyone know why this is "working as designed" and not a bug in Hibernate's JPA implementation? Many thanks in advance.

  class Person{ @Persistent private List tags = ArrayList() } I want to let the user query a person based on his/her tag, so I had my query filter like this: tags.contains(tagValue1) and if the user want to search for multiple tags, I would just add to the filter so if the user is searching for 3 tags, then the query would be tags.contains(tagValue1) && tags.contains(tagValue2) && tags.contains(tagValue3) I think this approach is wrong, because the datastore then needs to have an index that have the tags property three times... and if the user search for more than 3 tags at a time then it will be broken. What's the proper way to do this? Do you guys have any suggestions?

• Member variable in C++ class that is always constant for all objects of that class?

  I'm constructing a class where I have three member variables that I want to always be the same value NO MATTER WHAT. I have class foo{ public: double var_1, var_2, var_3; double x=1, y=2, z=3; [functions go here] }; that gave me an error since I can't initialize a variable like that. But I want x, y and z to always be 1, 2 and 3 respectively. I tried defining them outside the class but that doesn't work since I want them to be member variables of the class. How do I do this?

  Hi folks I have a table with three columns, which we'll call ID1, ID2, and Value. Sample data: ID ID1 Value 1 1 0 1 2 1 1 3 1 1 3 2 1 4 0 1 4 1 1 5 0 1 5 2 2 1 2 Value is limited to 0, 1, or 2. What I need to do is pivot/transform this data into a column-based count of how many times each possible Value appears, grouped by ID, ID1.   I'm trying to learn how to implement logging using the examples/tutorial in: http://blog.dartwatch.com/2013/05/campaign-to-use-real-logging-instead-of.html#comment-form But having imported the libraries this line in main will not compile because the class 'PrintHandler' is not recognized and Google has not been a help in this case. My server application consists of a main and three classes. I'm new at Dart. Below I've extracted the logging code that I added. In what library is 'PrintHandler'?   I ran testng tests for my test classes, I get the following three types of log output when I run the passing tests. I am using org.testng.AssertJUnit.assertTrue() methods in my tests. [testng] PASSED: testMethod1 on null(test.foo.bar.Class1) [testng] PASSED: testMethod2 on Default test name(test.foo.bar.jar.Class2) [testng] PASSED: testMethod3 Can any one please tell me why for some tests it says "on null" for some it says "on Default test name ... • MySQL look for missing ratings

  Hopefully I can ask this without being confusing. I am a photographer and I am having some of our clients rate pictures that we have taken. We have hundreds of pictures in our portfolio that they may be rating. What I want to do is ask our clients to rate pictures again, but only show them the pictures they haven't yet rated. I currently have three tables: one that stores the actual ratings, one that stores the pictures (or location of each picture), and one that stores the information about the rater. I'm using codeigniter for my db management, if that helps at all. What I have so far is this: "SELECT * FROM ratings LEFT JOIN portfolio ON ratings.portfolioid = portfolio.portfolioid" This will give me a row for each rating, but won't show me where a rating is missing for a picture. • Thread help with Android game

  I need some help dealing with three Threads in Android One thread is the main thread, the other is the GLThread, and the other is a WorkerThread I created to update the game state. The problem I have is they all need to access the same LinkedList of game objects. Both the GLThread and my WorkerThread only read from the LinkedList, so no problem there, but occasionally I have the main thread adding in another game object to the list. How can I manage this? I tried using synchronized in front of the functions involved but it really slows down the application. For some reason, just catching the errors and not rendering or updating the game state that frame, causes it to start lagging permanently. Anyone have any great ideas?

• [AS 3.0] How to use the string.match method to find multiple occurrences of the same word in a strin

  In Actionscript and Adobe Flex, I'm using a pattern and regexp (with the global flag) with the string.match method and it works how I'd like except when the match returns multiple occurrences of the same word in the text. In that case, all the matches for that word point only to the index for the first occurrence of that word. For example, if the text is "cat dog cat cat cow" and the pattern is a search for cat*, the match method returns an array of three occurrences of "cat", however, they all point to only the index of the first occurrence of cat when i use indexOf on a loop through the array. I'm assuming this is just how the string.match method is (although please let me know if i'm doing something wrong or missing something!). I want to find the specific indices of every occurrence of a match, even if it is of a word that was already previously matched. I'm wondering if that is just how the string.match method is and if so, if anyone has any idea what the best way to do this would be. Thanks.

• C: using a lot of structs can make a program slow?

  I am coding a breakout clone. I had one version in which I only had one level deep of structures. This version runs at 70 fps. For more clarity in the code I decided the code should have more abstractions and created more structs. Most of the times I have two two three level deep of structures. This version runs at 30 fps. Since there are some other differences besides the structures, I ask you: Does using a lot of structs in C can slow down the code significantly? Thanks.

• Millisecond-Accurate Scheduling of Future Events in C++/CLI

  I need to create a C++/CLI mixed assembly that can schedule future calls into a native DLL with millisecond accuracy. This will, of course, mean setting a timer (what kind?) for a millisecond or three beforehand, then spinning until the moment and calling the native DLL function. Based on what I've read, I would guess that the callback that the timer calls will need to be native to make sure there are no thunks or GC to delay handling the timer callback. Will the entire thread or process need to be native and CLR-free, though, or can this be done just as accurately with #pragma unmanaged or setting one file of the assembly to compile as native? If so, how? If there is indeed no way to do this in mixed-mode C++/CLI, what would be the easiest way to set up an app/thread (ie, DLL or exe?) to handle it and to get the data back and forth between the native and managed threads/apps?

  How could I make this kind of query e.g. in MySQL SELECT * FROM Table t WHERE t.a IN (1,2,3) AND t.b IN (4,5,6) AND t.c IN (7,8,9) ... so that the result would contain only the three rows: t.a|t.b|t.c ---+---+--- 1 | 4 | 7 2 | 5 | 8 3 | 6 | 9 The above query of course returns all the combinations of the values in the IN clauses but I would like to get just the ones where the first elements of each tuple match, second elements of each tuple match and so on. Is there any efficient way to do this? By the way is there some common term for this kind of query or concept? I'm having hard time coming up with the question's title because I can't put this into words..

• Multi "column" DataGridView C#

  I have a DataGridView that's bound to a DataSet. It has columns DateCreated, Weight, DateUsed. Those three columns do not take up much horizontal space on DataGridView that is nearly full screen. Is it possible to have those columns wrap back to the top if the view is wide enough to support a second group of those colums. So across the header it would read DateCreated, Weight, DateUsed, DateCreated, Weight, DateUsed. Then when a row is clicked, only 3 cells would be highlighted, not all six. Is there something that can provide this functionality?

I would like to use ggplot to plot the barplot mean of the time series of val1,val2,... for each type. One plot for each type except for ccc and ddd that should be considered as one type, so for this I should first sum up the value, then take the mean, then plot). So three plot at the end.   Can some one tell me if it is possible to submit two different iphone applications which has same Icon.png but have a different bundle name? I am working on a travel guide app that is targeted for different cities. I want the users of different cities to download the app as per their cities. So I want to submit different apps for different cities(3 in my case). User can also purchase any of these cities through in-app purchase. In that case the new purchased city would be unlocked in the app. Here is my thing. I want the same icon for all the three apps. I can do away with different names for app store and bundle(home screen icon name). But I am not sure if apple would approve/reject this app. Can someone enhance this blur picture I have?

  In my ASP.NET page, I have a Javascript object, like this: var args = new Object(); args.Data1 = document.getElementById("Data1").value; args.Data2 = document.getElementById("Data2").value; args.Data3 = document.getElementById("Data3").value; The object is populated on client side using user input data. I am passing the data to a C# method, through an Ajax request: someObj.AjaxRequest(argsData1 + "|" + argsData2 + "|" + argsData3) Finally, I need to obtain the data in my C# code: string data1 = [JS args.Data1] string data2 = [JS args.Data2] string data3 = [JS args.Data3] My question is what's the best solution for this? As i am concatenating bits of user input, I don't think it's best to use "|" as a delimiter. Also, it's not clear to me how to actually parse the data in my C# code to populate the three variables with the original data.

  Hi I do have three dlls. a.dll - released many years ago b.dll - released not so many years c.dll - released shortly Each one contains the same function - unfortunatelly with different parameters. so I do have the following Methods aMethod(param1) aMethod(param1, param2) aMethod(param1, param2, param3) My Task is to make a new dll (or new dlls) wich is backward compatible. But as far as I've learned from Google there is no possibility to overload methods in a dll. Does any one have a tip how I can solve this problem elegantly? -- Michael

  Hello All, I want to ensure I have done all I can to configure a system's disks for serious database use. The three areas I know of (any others?) to be concerned about are: I/O size: the database engine and disk's native size should either match, or the database's native I/O size should be a multiple of the disk's native I/O size. Disks that are capable of Direct Memory Access (eg. IDE) should be configured for it. When a disk says it has written data persistently, it must be so! No keeping it in cache and lying about it. I have been looking for information on how to ensure these are so for CENTOS and Ubuntu, but can't seem to find anything at all! I want to be able to check these things and change them if needed. Any and all input appreciated.

  Thanks to some great folks on SO, I discovered the possibilities offered by collections.defaultdict, notably in readability and speed. I have put them to use with success. Now I would like to implement three levels of dictionaries, the two top ones being defaultdict and the lowest one being int. I don't find the appropriate way to do this. Here is my attempt: from collections import defaultdict d = defaultdict(defaultdict) a = [("key1", {"a1":22, "a2":33}), ("key2", {"a1":32, "a2":55}), ("key3", {"a1":43, "a2":44})] for i in a: d[i[0]] = i[1] Now this works, but the following, which is the desired behavior, doesn't: d["key4"]["a1"] + 1 I suspect that I should have declared somewhere that the second level defaultdict is of type int, but I didn't find where or how to do so. The reason I am using defaultdict in the first place is to avoid having to initialize the dictionary for each new key. Any more elegant suggestion? Thanks pythoneers!

  I have a survey database with one column for each question and one row for each person who responds. Each question is answered with a value from 1 to 3. Id Quality? Speed? -- ------- ----- 1 3 1 2 2 1 3 2 3 4 3 2 Now, I need to display the results as one row per question, with a column for each response number, and the value in each column being the number of responses that used that answer. Finally, I need to calculate the total score, which is the number of 1's plus two times the number of 2's plus three times the number of threes. Question 1 2 3 Total -------- -- -- -- ----- Quality? 0 2 2 10 Speed? 2 1 1 7 Is there a way to do this in set-based SQL? I know how to do it using loops in C# or cursors in SQL, but I'm trying to make it work in a reporting tool that doesn't support cursors.
