• Win32: No Window Appears

  I was programming the example code from Frank Luna's book "Introduction to 3D Game Programming with DirectX 10". The code is the first Win32 example in the Appendix A: Windows Programming section. Right now, the program compiles under both VC++ 2008/2010, but no window appears, although the debug session has started and I have to forcefully close it. I have no idea where it is, I'm not using Win32 Console mode, I have closed all other windows and no other IDE or session of VC++ is running. Any idea why this might be happening? PS: I have also checked my Processes. It is indeed running.

  Hi, I Have a DataBase in my project With Table named 'ProcessData' and columns named 'Start_At' (Type: DateTime) and 'End_At' (Type: DateTime) . When I try to enter a new record into this table, it enter the data in the following format: 'YYYY/MM/DD HH:mm', when I actualy want it to be in that format: 'YYYY/MM/DD HH:mm:ss' (the secondes dosen't apper). Does anyone know why, and what should I do in order to fix this? • c#: sms appears to have been sent, but stuck in phone outbox

  Having looked into How can I make a JQuery UI Dialog automatically grow or shrink to fit its contents?, I am using the height: "auto" option when building a jQuery modal dialog box: $( "#dialog-message" ).dialog({ autoOpen: false, width: "400", height: "auto", show: "slide", modal: true, buttons: { Ok: function() { $( this ).dialog( "close" ); } } }); However, the height isn't "growing" to fit all of the contents. I'm still seeing a vertical scrollbar as in this image: Is there a way right in the definition code I listed to ensure that the height grows enough so that a vertical scrollbar doesn't show? Or, do I need to do this programmatically before opening the dialog box? Edit 1 Not sure why, but Chrome is displaying this fine but IE 8 isn't. I need it to specifically work in IE 8 so I believe I'm just going to put a bottom margin on the text.

• Is Amazon SQS the right choice here? Rails performance issue.

  I'm close to releasing a rails app with the common networking features (messaging, wall, etc.). I want to use some kind of background processing (most likely Bj) for off-loading tasks from the request/response cycle. This would happen when users invite friends via email to join and for email notifications. I'm not sure if I should just drop these invites and notifications in my Database, using a model and then just process it with a worker process every x minutes or if I should go for Amazon SQS, storing the messages and invites there and let my worker retrieve it from Amazon SQS for processing (sending the invites / notifications). The Amazon approach would get load off my Database but I guess it is slower to retrieve messages from there. What do you think?

I couldn’t figure out how to bind to a table at all. I have built the inline sql that would do this for me but it would destroy my shared pool (not using binds). So a General question how do I bind to complex/composite types using Nhibernate?

  I have activities A and B. The A is the one with LAUNCHER intent-filter (i.e. the activity that is started when we click the app icon on home screen). A launches B using startActivity(new Intent(A.this, B.class)). When the user has the B activity open, and then put my application into the background, and later my application's process is killed, when the user starts my application again, B is opened instead of A. This caused a force close in my app, because A is the activity that initializes the resources my app needs, and when B tried to access the uninitialized resources, B crashes. Do you have any suggestions what should I do in this situation?

• Linux, C++ audio capturing (just microphone) library

  I'm developing a musical game, it's like a singstar but instead of singing, you have to play the recorder. It's called oFlute, and it's still in early development stage. In the game, I capture the microphone input, then run a simple FFT analysis and compare the results to typical recorder's frequencies, thus getting the played note. At the beginning, the audio library I was using was RtAudio, but I don't remember why I switched to PortAudio, which is what I'm currently using. The problem is that, from time to time, either it crashes randomly or stops capturing, like if there were no sound coming from the microphone. My question is, what's the best option to capture microphone input on Linux? I just need to open, read, and close a flow of bytes from the microphone. I've been reading this guide, and (un)surprisingly it says: I don't think that PortAudio is very good API for Unix-like operating systems. So, what do you recommend me?

  Hey there, As I was writing another switch in Eclipse, I once again came across a rather weird (to me, at least) default indentation, which is applied to 'switch' statements: switch (i) { case 1: ... case n: ... } I tend to prefer another way: switch (i) { case 1: ... case n: ... } Which way is more readable and eye-pleasing for you? I'm still not hundred percent determined what's best for me, so I'd like to stick to what's best for other people who would read my code.   I've got Django set up to run some recurring tasks in their own threads, and I noticed that they were always leaving behind unfinished database connection processes (pgsql "Idle In Transaction"). I looked through the Postgres logs and found that the transactions weren't being completed (no ROLLBACK). I tried using the various transaction decorators on my functions, no luck. I switched to manual transaction management and did the rollback manually, that worked, but still left the processes as "Idle". So then I called connection.close(), and all is well. But I'm left wondering, why doesn't Django's typical transaction and connection management work for these threaded tasks that are being spawned from the main Django thread?

Is the Server socket at fault so it need to be recreated? For example wait a few seconds and then serverSocket = ServerSocketFactory.getDefault().createServerSocket(MY_PORT); However if the server socket is still OK, then it is a pity to close it and kill all previously accepted connections that are still communicating.

  I am using the h5py python package to read files in HDF5 format. (e.g. somefile.h5) I would like to write the contents of a dataset to a text file. For example, I would like to create a text file with the following contents: 1,20,31,75,142,324,78,12,3,90,8,21,1 I am able to access the dataset in python using this code: import h5py f = h5py.File('/Users/Me/Desktop/thefile.h5', 'r') group = f['/level1/level2/level3'] dset = group['dsetname'] My naive approach is too slow, because my dataset has over 20000 entries: # write all values to file for index in range(len(dset)): # do not add comma after last value if index == len(dset)-1: txtfile.write(repr(dset[index])) else: txtfile.write(repr(dset[index])+',') txtfile.close() return None Is there a faster way to write this to a file? Perhaps I could convert the dataset into a NumPy array or even a Python list, and then use some file-writing tool? (I could experiment with concatenating the values into a larger string before writing to file, but I'm hoping there's something entirely more elegant)

• MVC Custom Model Binder Binding Multiple Values

  Hello everyone, I have a scenario in which I have multiple sources to bind to my model. For one, I have a view tied to a strongly-typed model, but this scenario also entails posting data to this view from a 3rd party site. Essentially, what I believe I am after in the custom model binding is to investigate the form values in the Request object within HTTPContext to see if I have a field such as "postedFirstName". If so, I want to bind that value instead of the textbox "FirstName" in my view. I've done a good bit of searching but have not find anything that exactly addresses such a scenario. • Avoid postback on gridview event

  1 I've got popup (using javascript) working in a kind of gridview. When you click a button on one grid, it displays a popup window containing another grid of information, based on the row clicked in the first grid. This works well... I've enabled editing in the grid that is popped up. When you click edit though, the popup window disappears. If I click the display button in the first grid though to bring the popup window visible again it displays, and is now in edit mode. Is there a way to make postbacks in the popup not close the popup?
