• What to use for an event listing site? [on hold]

  I have a site which lets users buy & sell tickets, but it's built on wordpress & buddypress. So it's very heavy and messy. I would like to re-do the whole site on something lighter, cleaner and solid. The main functionality for user would have to be as follows: Register or login via Facebook. Create events and sell tickets to them. See ticket sales statistics Upload photos and associate those with events. Buy event tickets, print pdf ticket. Comment, favourite and like events. What would be your suggestions? PHP framework? CMS? CMF? I must say that I'm a front-end dev so building a system from scratch on my own would take a while. I'd be interested more in a "skeleton" app solution or something similar.

• After installing ubuntu, all my partitions are gone. Boot-repair log

  I have an HP Pavilion Sleekbook that came with windows 8 pre-installed. I had trouble dual booting after installing ubuntu, so I disabled safeboot on bios and proceeded to try boot-repair, nothing happened. No dual boot yet. So I tried to reinstall ubuntu, but without the manual partitioning. So I chose to erase ubuntu 13 and reinstall it. Instead it deleted all my HP recovery partitions and windows as well. Here is the log of boot-repair. http://paste.ubuntu.com/6354919/ Gparted and fdisk only show one partition: /dev/sda1 I am wondering if you could suggest any way of recovering my windows partition and have a working windows 8 again? • In what ways can I test an image slideshow javascript code?

  I have a slideshow of images (and links) on a page. These images are part of a JSON response to a request sent after the page loads. The slideshow is set to play at an interval of 2 seconds. The slideshow can be paused, played over, and all other controls a normal slideshow would have. As a Rails dev, I proposed cucumber but the javascript guys in the team are not comfortable with ruby. I saw some cucumber for javascript libraries coming up, still in experimental stage. I checked out jasmine and related tutorials but all I could get from them is how I can carry out any internal functional testing such as credit-cart validation, etc. - which I think could actually be handled in unit testing? (Screw the research I did and) How should I go about testing this and similar components?

• How to split currently used partition on Ubuntu server?

  I would like to split a currently used partition that is mounted to /usr directory. I did this because / only had 1 gb of data allocated to it. Now, I did not account for the /home directory when I made this partition (or I would have made two partitions). So I have 14 gb mounted to usr/ with 12 gb free. Is there a way I can reclaim the free space on this partition to make another partition to mount to /home? Here is the result of a df -h: I have tried to split the /dev/mmcblk1p4 into 2 different partitions but I was not able to save the partition table correctly.

• Scrum in a consulting environment?

  Is it possible to introduce scrum to a consulting environment? On any given week I might belong to 4 different teams, each with a different PM, BA and dev team (I am a designer). It doesn't seem feasible, time wise, to be able to be part of that many teams/projects as there would need to be daily stand-ups for each, sprint reviews, etc. I should add these projects are not necessarily software, but mainly ecommerce web projects. Can someone who has done this speak to how you approach it?

  I am asking very basic concept as I am new to build and release team. I am working with ant scripts to build and deploy the java code + working with TFS to deploy .net code. So my question is: What is apache tomcat and why we need it? Can't we deploy any piece of code or any application without apache tomcat? For windows, what framework we need to deploy(or same tomcat can be used for same)? Please make me understand the basic concept so that I can understand the deploy process or per-requisites of deploying process. what I know (to deploy) Just copy the tar file or zip file to any concerned dev environment and restart the server. • How can I run a complete application from RAM?

  When I do some stuff in background (unpacking, compiling, backup, etc.) my hdd is under load and for example, Firefox and Chromium take very long to start and react very slow. While my hdd is under load I have still plenty of free RAM and free CPU. How can I copy the whole Firefox or Chromium including all dependencies into RAM? I don't care about persistence, I just want to view some websites, videos, etc. There are instructions putting the cache into /dev/shm, but that didn't speed up so much. Getting the profile into the RAM drive might also be easy... But how to get the binaries with all dependencies into RAM?

• Ubuntu 12.04 won't boot from USB

  I downloaded Ubuntu 12.04, then using the tool Startup Disk Creator i made the live usb. I checked that it's bootable Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdb1 * 62 15635593 7817766 c W95 FAT32 (LBA) Now on my lap top it boots nicely, but on two other machines that don't have any installation of ubuntu(no Grub) it doesn't boot. I changed the booting order so that USB is before HDD. So i think i did everything i know, but no luck. How can i use this USB drive on other devices that don't have any previous ubuntu installation.

  I tried to use my Virtual Box and this is the error I received - (I just updated to the new Ubuntu also) and I am VERY new at this Linux OS :) Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908) The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. Please reinstall the kernel module by executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' as root. Users of Ubuntu, Fedora or Mandriva should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary.

• Are my Google Analytics ( 2 domains 1 site) duplicated or unique?

  We have recently built a new website with a new domain to replace an old website, and on the advice of our IT guys and web dev team have pointed both oldaddress.com's & newaddress.com's a records to the new website. Now, they both share the same google analytics code (UA-12345-1) and as such we have two entries in the Google Analytics dashboard. The problem is I'm still fairly novice with GA and as the reports seem VERY similar (~25k pageviews for each domain), are these figures exclusively for that domain? For example: oldaddress.com 25,400 pageviews newaddress.com 25,600 pageviews Does this mean that in total for this website I have 51,000 pageviews. Hope this is clear enough but let me know if anything needs clarifying. Thanks.

• f12 and ctrl + f5 not working correctly [migrated]

  When I came back to my work computer after being away for a week I found out when I try to clear the cache and refresh the page via ctrl + f5 (or just f5) I get the prompt "Type the Internet address of a document, and Internet Explorer will open it for you" with a drop down list in IE. When I try f5 in Chrome and FF it opens the "Open file" dialog box. When I try to f12 for Dev tools in IE, Chrome & FF it opens up the print dialog box. Why is this happening and what can I do to revert it back to the way it was?

  I would like to install the latest version of Bibletime (2.9.1) on my computer because the version in the official repositories (2.8.1) has a bug with the "Mag" feature. I had installed 2.9.1 on 12.04 32 bit through one of the following ppa's: ppa:pkgcrosswire/ppa ppa:pkgcrosswire/developer-testing Now on an Ubuntu 12.04.1 64 bit, I'm getting a dependency issue. It seems that it depends on libsword8 but it should actually depend on libsword9 which is available in the repositories. • Possible to stop Adobe DreamWeaver from rewriting 'onclick' to 'onClick'? [closed]

  I've been giving my dev team grief by checking in HTML edited in DW. It turns out that DW has silently been rewriting all instances of 'onclick' to 'onClick' completely breaking the application in Webkit on us. I've done some digging on Google and this appears to be a bug that goes back to at least 2004. Supposedly it has nothing to do with your code re-writing settings and what triggers it is opening any document that does not contain a Doctype. Few of ours do, given that we're maintaining a framework that's using all sorts of include and dependency files. In all my Googling, I haven't found a fix, though. Has anyone come across one short of swearing off Adobe products forever?* something, btw, that I'm perfectly fine doing...it's just that given the insane IT lockdown on our work machines, we have very few software choices. For now, It's Notepad++ for me.

• (SYSLINUX QUESTION) How to launch command prompt once syslinux boots up

  I have created a bootable USB drive using SYSLINUX I am booting my x86 system correctly. Once system boots I want to stop at console (command prompt) where I can type linux commands (cd etc) and run my executable file manually. Does that mean I have to have busy box installed (for basic commands). What makes system stop at command prompt? I do have /dev/console. My serial console is tty1. • Maxtor OneTouch Hardisk Not Recognised

  I have a Maxtor OneTouch External Harddisk 160gb that i purchased recently. At first my Ubuntu 10.10 could not mount it. I opened disk utility which recognized it but with no filesystem. I proceeded to try formatting it but this error popped up Blockquote Error creating partition table: helper exited with exit code 1: Error calling fsync(2) on /dev/sdb: Input/output error Blockquote I resorted to Gparted. Things turned worse; it wasn't even listed in the list of devices. Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Any help is appreciated.

  I am installing Ubuntu and I am stuck at a point. The step is when it is asking me to select partition. It is showing me error: "No file system is defined Please correct this from partitioning menu". I am getting this error when I am clicking "Install". I want Ubuntu to install in /dev/sda7 which is 226727 Mb. I have Windows 8 in my system and I want to dual boot the system. So how to correct this error? I want to allocate this whole partition to Ubuntu only. Secondly, What should I put in the option: "Device for boot loader installation"? By default it is somewhat like this: "ATA WDC WD5000..." something like this. Please tell my both these questions. I would be very thankful to you. Thanks.

• My computter wont shutdown

  If I try to shutdown my computer it simply takes me back to the login-screen. I looked around and found : Type in terminal: 1. sudo gedit /etc/default/grub 2. Find the line: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" 3. Change this to: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi=force" 4. Save the file and close the file. 5. Finally, in terminal: sudo update-grub but now there is a new problem. if I try step 5 it says: myname@ubuntu:~$ sudo update-grub [sudo] password for myname: /usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: cannot find a device for / (is /dev mounted?). myname@ubuntu:~$ I am new whit linux and dont know what to do.

• How to install aircrack on Ubuntu 12.04

  I have downloaded the tar.gz package from the site and then I have extracted using tar -zxvf command as mentioned over there. After that I used sudo apt-get install build-essential then I further installed libssl-dev. Then I changed directory to the aircrack folder. But when I type either sudo make or just make I am getting this same error. I don't know what to do. I have installed the file what they have asked in the error as well. Still the same error is shown. Okay I am not permitted to upload images. The error is : common.mak:85: *** Cannot find development files for any supported version of libnl. install either libnl1 or libnl3.. Stop.
