  I have a bookmarklet, clicking the bookmarklet includes a PHP script (evaluated as a JavaScript file) to the page few table values and select values passed as GET parameters. The PHP script writes the page data to the MySQL database, and outputs a success message that is treated as JavaScript code and executed by the browser. Is there any possibility to do this using greasemonkey and call this function when a existing button is clicked on the web page.   So lets say I have the following data.frames: df1 <- data.frame(y = 1:10, z = rnorm(10), row.names = letters[1:10]) df2 <- data.frame(y = c(rep(2, 5), rep(5, 5)), z = rnorm(10), row.names = letters[1:10]) And perhaps the "equivalent" data.tables: dt1 <- data.table(x = rownames(df1), df1, key = 'x') dt2 <- data.table(x = rownames(df2), df2, key = 'x') If I want to do element-wise operations between df1 and df2, they look something like dfRes <- df1 / df2 And rownames() is preserved: R> head(dfRes) y z a 0.5 3.1405463 b 1.0 1.2925200 c 1.5 1.4137930 d 2.0 -0.5532855 e 2.5 -0.0998303 f 1.2 -1.6236294 My poor understanding of data.table says the same operation should look like this: dtRes <- dt1[, !'x', with = F] / dt2[, !'x', with = F] dtRes[, x := dt1[,x,]] setkey(dtRes, x) (setkey optional) Is there a more data.table-esque way of doing this? As a slightly related aside, more generally, I would have other columns such as factors in each data.table and I would like to omit those columns while doing the element-wise operations, but still have them in the result. I’ve used JavaScript ~2 years ago (just a little), so I don’t really know how to write the exact code. I’ve found something on the internet, but it doesn’t do what I want. I want to have the following: The user can check the RadioButtons. When the user clicks the Button, the JavaScript function should return all the checked radio buttons (I only need to know which RadioButton is checked). Since I know the name of the RadioButtons in my Windows 8 App, I can do the following: var object = WebView.InvokeScript("JavaScriptFunctionNAME", NameOfRadiobutton); So the WebView invokes the script and should get as a return the VALUE of the RadioButton, which is checked. “JavaScriptFunctionNAME” = name of the function in Javascript NameOfRadiobutton = the name of the RadioButton as a parameter (for example “frage1”). Currently I’m returning the value of the radiobutton, which is checked in the RadioGroup “frage1”. How can I check every RadioButton by it’s parameter? By this I mean I have a parameter “frage1” and return the value of the checked RadioButton. After this, I call the function again with the parameter “frage2” and return the checked RadioButtons value. Could anyone help me out with the JavaScript-function?

• Two-key encryption/decryption?

  I'm looking to store some fairly sensitive data using PHP and MySQL and will be using some form of reversible encryption to do so since I need to get the data back out in plain text for it to be of any use. I'll be deriving the encryption key from the users' username/password combination but I'm stumped for what to do in the (inevitable) event of a password being forgotten. I realise that the purpose of encryption is that it can only be undone using the correct key but this must have been addressed before.. I'm trying to get my head around whether or not public key cryptography would apply to the problem but all I can think of is that the private key will still need to be correct to decrypt the data.. Any ideas?

• Mutually exclusive regular expressions

  If I have a list of regular expressions, is there an easy way to determine that no two of them will both return a match for the same string? That is, the list is valid if and only if for all strings a maximum of one item in the list will match the entire string. It seems like this will be very hard (maybe impossible?) to prove definitively, but I can't seem to find any work on the subject. The reason I ask is that I am working on a tokenizer that accepts regexes, and I would like to ensure only one token at a time can match the head of the input.

• Twisted Spread: How to authenticate each RPC with digital signature

  I have remote objects which talk each others with RPCs, using Twisted Spread. I want that objects authenticate messages, before using them, with digital signatures, but I don't know where to start to implement this. In my head, the Root object must have a public/private key pair, and the Client too. When a message is sent, a digital signature of the hash is added, and when it is received, the signature is checked. Is the Protocol part where I need to add these adds and checks? Thank you

• Conditional interface programming for iPad?

  Hi everyone! I'm working on an app for the iPad and am a little over my head with one issue. Is it possible to build an app for iPad that uses a function to control which interface layout is displayed? Something like "if these parameters are met, use XIB file "a" else use XIB file "b". I know that's not in any kind of legitimate format, but you get the idea. If this is possible, does anyone know of any tutorials on how to do it or sample code I could look at? Thanks!

  I'm in this project: A web page that's gonna be used by the front-end company people to query and update data from a SQL DB. I'm working with visual studio and the code behind (C#) is almost done, so the interactions between SQL and C# and ok. My original idea was to work with ASP.NET which is familiar to me, but that's not gonna be possible. I have to switch to PHP. So, today is my first day learning PHP, checking http://php.net/manual/en/index.php and a lot of things seem quite similar to ASP.NET so I guess it won't be that hard. Anyways, some questions popped up quite fast as I wanted to script something else than a "hello world" . Is there an easy way to get/send C# variables from my class using a php page? I've read soemthing about using XML in order to do so, but still I'm scratching my head, is there another, easier, way to do this?

• Google App Engine dev_appserver can't find PIL (I've installed it)

  I recently upgraded my Google App Engine launcher on my Mac, running OSX 10.5.8, and afterwards my projects that work with images stopped working locally. It seems to be the same problem that I had when first using GAE locally to work with images, before I installed PIL. Here is the error I get: SystemError: Parent module 'PIL' not loaded I have PIL installed. When I run python normally, I can access it and work with it as expected. I also checked to ensure that dev_appserver.py was running the same version of Python. If I open the interpreter and type sys.version I get this back: 2.5 (r25:51918, Sep 19 2006, 08:49:13) [GCC 4.0.1 (Apple Computer, Inc. build 5341)] This is identical to what I get when I display the sys.version from my projects running through dev_appserver. Any thoughts on why dev_appserver can't find the PIL module? I have been banging my head against this for a bit. Thank you!

• Java reduce CPU usage

  Greets- We gots a few nutters in work who enjoy using while(true) { //Code } in their code. As you can imagine this maxes out the CPU. Does anyone know ways to reduce the CPU utilization so that other people can use the server as well. The code itself is just constantly polling the internet for updates on sites. Therefore I'd imagine a little sleep method would greatly reduce the the CPU usage. Also all manipulation is being done in String objects (Java) anyone know how much StringBuilders would reduce the over head by? Thanks for any pointers

• REST client website login

  I have written a REST service that uses WSSE as an authentication method but i want to be able to use this rest service through a browser by creating a website around the service. I want the user to be able to log in on the website then when they view, for example the "view users" page an ajax request is made to test.com/users and back comes the list. The part i'm trying to get my head around is the logging in/out on the website and keeping the user logged in across pages. Since in a true REST implementation there's no state held on the server, i can't use $_SESSION and now i don't know where to start! What is the best way to go about this? Do i still need to store session information on the server then possibly use cURL to make the request? Thanks Jay

• what are the limitations of mobile phones and web development

  simple really.. I am have been asked to do a mobile site (straight html + css (+ maybe jquery mobile later on)). The site will need to support the new type smart phone and the old type Nokia/(Symbian OS) with the web browser. Doubts and reservations aside as to anyone without a smart phone would bother visiting this site it still needs to support it. My first question is do older phones support PNG images and transparancey... But this has led me to a much broader question of what are some of the limitations of developing for older phone platforms is there anything that has caught mobile web devs out and had them scratching their head for an afternoon.. what are the limitations of mobile phones?

  I've been trying to get my head around the TR1 addition known as aligned_storage. Whilst reading the following documents N2165, N3190 and N2140 I can't for the life of me see a statement where it clearly describes stack or heap nature of the memory being used. I've had a look at the implementation provided by msvc2010, boost and gcc they all provide a stack based solution centered around the use of a union. In short: Is the memory type (stack or heap) used by aligned_storage implementation defined or is it always meant to be stack based? and, What the is the specific document that defines/determines that?

• Apache Modrewrite & 301 redirect- Dynamic URLs with characters.

  I've been trying for weeks, literally, to rename these URLs and also ensure the old one is 301 redirected to the new one: www.example.com/?mod=11&p=215 - www.example.com/clean-url-section www.example.com/?mod=96&tab=6 - www.example.com/clean-url-section-2 Does anyone have any idea why I am having no luck, I got 500 server errors or nothing at all! Is it because of the question marks and characters? I'd be grateful for any help. I have tried this (below) and it seems to be redirecting to the http:// www.example.com/new-page (this page doesn't exist, as I only want it to rename the page BUT use a 301 so that search engines continue you to value it) RewriteCond %{query_string} mod=96&tab=6 RewriteRule (.*) http:// www. example.com/new-page? • WCF REST Service not working - not showing anything

  I've been scratching my head for the past 20 hrs or so trying to figure out what is wrong with my rudimentary WCF app but with absolutely no luck :( I was following this tutorial: http://www.c-sharpcorner.com/UploadFile/dhananjaycoder/RESTEnabledService05122009034907AM/RESTEnabledService.aspx and for some reason the WCF is showing a blank page. I checked IIS, reinstalled .NET 4.0, cleaned and redid .svn handlers, tried on different test servers...and still, nada. Do you know what might be wrong with the configuration? I figured the code is simple enough (essentially the same as the page I posted) so it can't be the code itself...right? any help will be appreciate :)

• jQuery works on local host, but not on website

  Using Notepad++ and XAMPP to test stuff, then I upload it to the website over FTP. In the head of my code, I have this to call jQuery and the script: <script type="text/javascript" src="/jquery.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="/portfolio.js"></script> and it works fine locally on my XAMPP server. But as soon as it's uploaded onto the host, it throws this error: Resource interpreted as script but transferred with MIME type text/html. Not sure what's going on, or why it's having a hard time using jQuery. Any ideas?

  Hi, I have a product database and I am displaying trying to display them as clean URLs, below is example product names: PAUL MITCHELL FOAMING POMADE (150ml) American Crew Classic Gents Pomade 85g Tigi Catwalk Texturizing Pomade 50ml What I need to do is display like below in the URL structrue: www.example.com/products/paul-mitchell-foaming-gel(150ml) The problem I have is I want to do the following: Remove anything with braquets(and the braquets) Remove any numbers next to g or ml e.g. 400ml, 10g etc... I have been banging my head trying different string replaces but cant get it right, I would really appreciate some help. Cheers

• Finding latest release links on website for C++ Application

  Basically I have written a game plugin that will allow server admins to update their administration tools from within game rather than having to go download it and install it. The releases are updated regularly, and the beta versions are nightly builds. I am trying to find a way to grab the links from the website, but I cannot think of anyway to do this off of the top of my head. • Online Game programming in Google App Engine: AI

  I am currently in the planning stages of a game for google app engine, but cannot wrap my head around how I am going to handle AI. I intend to have persistant NPCs that will move about the map, but short of writing a program that generates the same XML requests I use to control player actions, than run it on another server I am stuck on how to do it. I have looked at the Task Queue feature, but due to long running processes not being an option on the App engine, I am a little stuck. I intend to run multiple server instances with 200+ persistant NPC entities that I will need to update. Most action is slowly roaming around based on player movements/concentrations, and attacking close range players(you can probably guess the type of game im developing)

• Should a company prevent employees from publishing an app in an appstore in their free time?

  My company is trying to pass a policy forbidding distribution of any application (even free) in any appstore for all developers. Their reasoning is that "outside work activities create a conflict of interest". They don't want that "you use your spare time to work on your app, and once it takes off you quit your job" (quoting the Head of Development). A few developers (myself included) have already said it was an abusive, pointless and most of all counter-productive policy (developers will actually be demotivated to work here under such control and to be denied of the freedom to distribute their project). Personally, I think it is actually in the interest of the company to promote side projects (even commercial activities, if there is no conflict). I'm also curious, is that common practice?

• iPhone audio Filter Question

  Okay, I am going to try to make this totally not a "plz send teh codez kthxbai" I am considering an app which takes sound (eventually an audio track) and applies an audio filter to it. So I can play sounds with AudioServicesPlaySystemSound via AudioToolbox framework just fine. What I need is a very simple example of how I might take a sound and apply (for instance) midrange boost etc. Actually the kind of alteration is irrelevant -- if I can get my head around how the alteration is done I can figure out the rest. I am just finding both docs and examples of altering audio in code to be very scarce. Thanks for any help!

• Delegates vs. events in Cocoa

  I'm writing my first iPhone app, and I've been exploring the design patterns in Cocoa and Objective-C. I come from a background of client-side web development, so I'm trying to wrap my head around delegates. Specifically, I don't see why delegate objects are needed instead of event handlers. For instance, when the user presses a button, it is handled with an event (UITouchUpInside), but when the user finishes inputting to a text box and closes it with the 'Done' button, the action is handled by calling a method on the text box's delegate (textFieldShouldReturn). Why use a delegate method instead of an event? I also notice this in the view controller with the viewDidLoad method. Why not just use events?
