Stop applet execution on load, pause/resume using javascript?

I'm making something of a java applet gallery for my website (processing applets, if you're interested) and I'd like to keep the applets from running when the sit first loads. Then, when the appropriate button is clicked, a piece of javascript would tell the applet to continue execution until another button is pressed to stop it. I know that I can use appletName.start() and appletName.stop(), but it doesn't seem to work on load, at least not well. I'm using element.getElementsById( "applet" ) to get the applets to use the start and stop methods on. It slows Firefox to a crawl for some reason.

How do i make my text wrap in a <div> with a large border radius

In webkit browsers(i tested both chrome and safari) the overflow hidden cuts the text outside the border. Firefox just renders text outside the border. I also tried this without overflow:hidden; but again the text just rendered outside the border.

Flowplayer: Clicking on the player forces is to reload.

Hey everyone, I've got this damn annoying bug (or wrong setting) that makes the player reload whenever it's clicked. It's set to play when you click, so when you click it, it reloads. The circle begins.... The reloading only happens in Firefox. In Safari (and I assume Chrome), the video opens in its own window. Not ideal, but it still plays. Screen scrape a web page that uses javaScript and frames

Hi, I want to scrape data from www.marktplaats.nl . I want to analyze the scraped description, price, date and views in Excel/Access. I tried to scrape data with Ruby (nokogiri, scrapi) but nothing worked. (on other sites it worked well) The main problem is that for example selectorgadget and the add-on firebug (Firefox) don’t find any css I can use to scrape the page. On other sites I can extract the css with selectorgadget or firebug and use it with nokogiri or scrapi. Due to lack of experience it is difficult to identify the problem and therefore searching for a solution isn’t easy. Can you tell me where to start solving this problem and where I maybe can find more info about a similar scraping process? Thanks in advance!

jQuery val not working properly in Chrome

I have a simple jQuery function: $('#selectable1 span').live('mousedown', function() { var ff = $(this).css("font-family"); $("#family").val(ff); }); When a span element is clicked (mousedown) an input (#family) gets its font family value. It works in FireFox but in Chrome it works only for font families composed from only one word. Georgia will work but Times New Roman will now. Where do Java Applets live?

I'm trying to figure out where java Applets that I run from the browser live. I'm using Firefox 3.0 on Windows XP with Java 1.6 if that makes any difference. From the Java Control Panel on the toolbar, I can access "Temporary Internet Files - Settings" to find the Java cache. From there I can show the resources and see a file called "dws2010066.dat". Does this resource correspond to a file on disk? I did a search in the Java cache/my whole computer and came up empty handed.

Why would this div have an unnecessarily large computed height?

Link: http://www.fraynepainting.com/services The problem is that div#dditem_2 (the div with the "Take a look..." text) is getting a computed height of around 500px for no reason that I can find in the CSS, which is pushing the UL below it down really really far. I discovered that if you set display: none or position: absolute (or anything else that removes it from the flow of elements) on the sidebar, then the bottom UL moves up like it should, so it looks like maybe the UL is trying to clear the sidebar, but I can't figure out why that would be either. I've reproduced the problem in Firefox and Chrome so far. Any ideas?

Jquery, "$.each(", function returns error in IE. 'Length' is null or not an object

My code is working fine in FireFox but my users are restricted to IE. Update: returnList is an XML document object from an Ajax call. I'm trying to retrieve the JSON object string located within the XML tag.

window.opener.document.getElementById not working

In my asp.net web app, I create a popup window with a button. When that button is clicked, I want to set the value of an asp:TextBox (id=TextBox1) contained in the parent window. However, it doesn't work like all the examples I've read indicate. I've tried the following lines of code in my javascript onclick handler: window.opener.document.getElementById('<%= TextBox1.ClientID %').value = "abc"; window.opener.document.getElementById("TextBox1").value = "abc"; window.opener.document.getElementById("ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_TextBox1").value = "abc"; Only example 3 works. All the stuff I've read indicates that #1 is the preferred method, but I can't seem to make it work at all. Does anyone have any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I've tried this in Firefox, Chrome and IE. Integrating virtual keyboard on a HP TouchSmart with an Adobe AIR app

Hi, Does anyone know if it's possible to integrate the ToushSmart's virtual keyboard with an Adobe AIR application? In most programs (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc), when a user touches a text field a little keyboard icon automatically pops up which, when pressed, will bring up the virtual keyboard. However, this doesn't happen when clicking on text input fields in Adobe AIR applications. Has anyone had any experience working with AIR/Flash and touchscreens? Is there any API that can tell Windows (or the HP virtual keyboard specifically) that the user has clicked in a text field and that the virtual keyboard should be shown? The text fields are the standard kind (fl.controls.TextInput). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

JQuery Ajax returns status 0 in Google Chrome, works fine with other browsers.

Hello, I am using jQuery ajax, and it worked very well until I tried the site in Google Chrome. I am directed to the success handler. However, when I printed the status of the XMLHttpRequest, I got a 0. The responseText is empty as well. This only happens in Google Chrome. I tried the same code on Safari, Firefox, and Opera, they are worked correctly. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Response.Redirect() will not redirect on Internet Explorer

Hi, I am using Response.Redirect("someurl",true); in the page_preInit event to redirect all the requests that come to a page. It works fine on Firexox, but if i access the page from internet explorer 7/8, it says page can not be found and will not redirect to new URL. Any idea why this happens?? Update: I tried giving a radom URL in the redirect such as google.com and it works fine. Actually the URL I am trying to redirect is not accessible on my machine, it is on another VPN. I guess IE will not change the URL on the addressbar if it can not access the URL. Firefox on the other hand changes the address on the address bar.

IE page redirect hanging

My app does a POST to my local server to create a new DOM element, comes back and should redirect to the same page with the new element. The problem is when it gets back from the server, the app hangs for almost 2 minutes before doing the redirect. I've isolated the issue to the fact that IE seems to have trouble with my tree structure of 100+ DOM elements, and I can see in HTTPWatch that it sits in a "Blocked" call for the 2 minutes before doing the redirect. Our temporary workaround is to set the inner-html of the tree structure to an empty string before submitting, thus eliminating the heavy DOM lifting, but we shouldn't need to do this (firefox has no trouble with the redirect). Question 1: Is there a better fix for this issue? Question 2: Why does ANY page care about the content before a redirect if it's going to be refreshed anyway? Thanks yall //sw

Problems with retrieving the correct cookie in Java

When I retrieve the cookies in my java servlet, all of the values from getPath() are null. So if a cookie with the same name is set in directory /foo, and at the root directory, I retrieve two cookies with the same exact name, but I can't differentiate them because getPath() returns null for both. I looked in firebug and saw that firefox was not sending anythign for the path. My application uses a "rememberme" cookie with the path set to "/". Everything works fine as long as there is only one cookie with name rememberme. But if somehow another cookie gets set with the same name on a different path like /foo, then my application won't know which one is the one I set for the root. How can I differentiate the cookies? Do I need to worry about a cookie existing with the same name in a subdir, or can I just assume there will be only the one I set?

Update: I am writing a media player plug-in for the Android WebKit browser and my plug-in needs to get the command from the web page through JavaScript (some actions like play/pause/stop/resize are issued as JavaScript commands from the browser). Flash not interacting with Javascripts in browser inside my app

Hi , I have an application which embeds a xulrunner based browser. I have to load some flash content in it which talks to some javascripts to update the browser title. The flash content works fine when launched from Firefox but not inside my app. I tried a sample html file which has some javascripts and they work fine. It even works when I have the flash content on a server. It is only when I try to run js through flash present on my local machine that I see this problem. I guess it must have something to do with some security settings in xulrunner. Could somebody help me figure out what the problem might be? Thanks jbsp72

How do you implement file drag-and-drop upload in Google Chrome?

I've found several tutorials online about implementing file drag/drop with Firefox 3.6 (they involve using a FileReader object to get the file binary data). However, I cannot create a FileReader object in Chrome on Windows or Mac. Does anyone know what the API is to read and manipulate data from a drag-and-dropped file in Chrome? If I can get the binary data of the file, I already have the rest of the code to perform the upload. Note: I've also tried using the getAsBinary() function call on the file object of the drag event (event.dataTransfer.file) but I believe that is a Mozilla-specific function and not implemented in Chrome. Also, I'm not interested in a solution using google gears or one that requires a user to select files from a dialog. I'm specifically trying to implement a drag-and-drop file upload.

ModalPopupExtender closing as soon as it opens

Hi, I'm trying to use the AjaxToolkit's ModalPopupExtender, but it doesn't work. In fact, as soon as it opens, it's getting closed. So I can see that it is rendered, but it's getting closed in the second. I tried that with IE6 and Firefox 3, it does the samething. Load HTML frames in a specific order without back button problems?

I have a web page that uses a frameset. Due to scripting and object dependencies, I need to load the frames in a specific order. I have used this example as a template: The JavaScript Source: Navigation: Frames Load Order This loads an empty page in place of the page I need to load last, then replaces it with the correct page after the first page has loaded. However: I also need to use the browser Back button. If you run the sample at the above link, let both frames load, then click the Back button, the top frame reverts to the temporary blank page. It is then necessary to click the Back button again to navigate to the page before the frameset. Is there a way to force frames to load in a specific order without this Back button behavior - or a way to force the Back button to skip the empty page? This needs to work with Internet Explorer 6 and 7 and preferably with Firefox 3 as well.

I am looking to improve front-end performance of my application, so I used YSlow tool in Firefox. When I ran this tool for my app, in the YSlow grade tab it showed up a issue 'Grade F on Compress components with gzip'. Seems to be that we need to compress the files(js, css) while sending from the server to client to increase the server response time. My app is a Struts Java application. Can anyone let me know how to compress and send the front end UI files(JS,CSS) from server so that the response time increases and my pages lot fastly? What are the things that I need to do to compress these files in Java at server?

Office documents prompt for login in anonymous SharePoint site

I have a MOSS 07 site that is configured for anonymous access. There is a document library within this site that also has anonymous access enabled. When an anonymous user clicks on a PDF file in this library, he or she can read or download it with no problem. When a user clicks on an Office document, he or she is prompted with a login box. The user can cancel out of this box without entering a log in, and will be taken to the document. This happens in IE but not FireFox. Prototype's Ajax.Request not working in Chrome

I am just doing a simple Ajax.Request call using the newest version of Prototype. It works fine in Firefox, Internet Explorer, and even Safari... but not in Chrome. Here is my code... alert(url); new Ajax.Request(url, { method: 'get', onSuccess: function(transport) { alert('test'); } }); It pops up he URL alert but the test alert never comes up. Like I said it does in every other browser. I am not getting any javascript errors and I have used Firebug. I did a console.log on each event and it gets to the onLoading stage of Ajax.Request but never onLoaded. Very confused... ?

SELinux, Fedora, and Trusted Applet crashing?

For some reason, if I run Firefox 3.5.x under Fedora 11 with SELinux enabled, my browser crashes when I attempt to embed the applet dynamically. Under Windows, Ubuntu, and Mac, the user is prompted to trust the signer and then trust the executing java applet, but under Fedora, I never see this prompt. If I disable SELinux, I get NO prompting, and the applet embeds without any notice whatsoever! Remembering that trusted applets can execute user programs and manipulate user data, this becomes quite a nightmare. Has anyone else had to deal with SELinux and Fedora/SuSE/Linux and trusted applets before? If so, how did you overcome this broken behavior?

Flash overlay snagging on underlying divs

Flash overlay snags on underlying divs. What is the solution? I'm using Shadowbox to overlay a Flash file on my page, but the movement within the Flash file causes it to break or "shear" where the movie comes across the divs in the HTML hidden below. The screenshot shows it far better than I could explain ;) If you move the mouse, or tap the keyboard to "focus" the screen back on the Flash it all works seamlessly. Interestingly this seems worse in Firefox than the other browsers. Flash error image
